  • Aperture 3.6 update for Yosemite is out!

    Check the software update!
    Also iPhoto 9.6.

First observations with Aperture 3.6 on Yosemite:
There is a lot of initial background processing going on each launch: face detection, preview creation, syncing with iCloud.
I don't see any changes to the graphical user interface.
My Canon EOS 5D Mk II raw files and the Lumix FZ28 DNG files are looking very different now.  The colors are more vibrant and the images are brighter; I'd even say overexposed.
The changed RAW processing is surprising, since the release notes do not mention it:   Aperture 3.6 Release notes
    Aperture 3.6 Update
Adds compatibility with OS X Yosemite.
Fixes an issue that could cause Aperture performance to slow down while browsing through images with onscreen proofing enabled.
Fixes an issue where Aperture could become unresponsive in rare cases when adding to a shared photo stream.
Fixes an issue that could cause Aperture to unexpectedly quit when using the Write IPTC Metadata to Originals feature.
Aperture no longer displays the alert, “This library has been opened with a newer version of Aperture.” when using Library First Aid with libraries previously opened in iPhoto.

  • 'Rocky' video playback in Slideshow mode (update does not help)

After importing a video clip in Aperture everything is ok. I can play it back etc and everything goes smooth. However as soon as I add this clip in a slideshow and try to play it, it's goes very rocky/jumpy skipping frames.
What I want is the following: I want to add some videoclips from my wedding into the picture slideshow. I (unfortunately) only have a DVD (no original files). So I ripped the dvd with MPEG Streamclip as DV stream. Then loaded it into iMovie and exporting clips from there to use in aperture slideshow. If've tried out many codecs now, but nothing seems to really work. I have the feeling that larger files (dv, or avi) do it a bit better.
These movies play perfect in any other player and quickview.
What would be the best way to get clips from the DVD in a photo slideshow? Is there a certain codec I should use? etc.
I updated to 3.0.1 and only after that I installed the update for playback video in the slideshow (because I run into this problem)

    Hello Walter,
The are are many things to consider because there is probably a mismatch between your photos and your movie concerning size and quality.
Movies on a DVD will normally be Standard Definition, either in 4:3 ratio (old TV) or in modern widescreen 16:9 ratio. So you may just want to continue with Standard Definition, therefore SHARE your project to iDVD.
You need to consider the possibility of cropping your images to match the movie otherwise if the movie is 4:3 and the photos are 16:9 or 6:4 the movie will have a different screen size to your photos. Not all images can be cropped pleasingly in 4:3 so you may be forced to use another ratio or the original, in which case you movie will be different.
If you have Apple TV, or wish to view the final result on your computer screen you could try the SHARE to Apple TV option as that should result in better slideshow quality but probably not improve the movie quality. You will have to test this as I have no personal experience to draw upon.
Using the preset SHARE options is far easier than Exporting via Quick Time where you have to specify many parameters including output pixel dimensions.
    Hoping you have success.

  • Lost All Aperture Slideshow Themes

I lost all my Aperture slideshow themes after upgrading to iLife '11. At first everything worked fine and I was able to access the existing and new slideshow themes in Aperture from the new iPhoto '11 upgrade (as advertised). Then it all broke. Now I have no slideshow themes (or functionality) in either Aperture or in iPhoto for that matter. I'm not sure the exact moment that this all happened but just noticed it when trying to edit a few existing slideshows. The structure and music is all there but the slideshows are blank because there are no themes at all, just blank. I repaired permissions and checked file structures, did routine maintenance. Nothing works. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

    Success!
I'm documenting this in case anyone else encounters the same problem. There are three files that can be found in HD>Library>Application Support. These files are: iLife, iLifeMediaBrowser, and iLifeSlideshow. They somehow got corrupted in the upgrade process to Aperture 3.1 and/or iLife '11. The thing is that trashing the corrupted files in hopes that a clean reinstall will rebuild them does NOT WORK. It simply makes shared media unavailable to any of the apps. I had to restore the files from Time Machine from a previous state.
This took an entire day of troubleshooting to figure out. I hope this helps avoid this for anyone else.

I found this is another thread - same issue.
Re: iTunes has stopped working. Why?

    Resolved!
After contacting Apple, I received a reply from their engineers:
    Copy QTMovieWin.dll from:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
    And that did the trick.

  • Import Aperture slideshow into iPad as SLIDES

I prepared a slideshow using Aperture, individually introducing texts and modifying slide layout. 550 slides, this was a lot of work.
    Then I bought an iPad.
From what I found until now, the only solution is Aperture > iPhoto > (movie) > iPad
I don't care for a movie, I want to keep my slideshow, its quality and the ability to browse my own speed.
Using the album I prepared before is not the solution, as I loose the additional information for each slide.
    QUESTION 1
CAN I INDIVIDUALLY EXPORT PICTURES AND ADDITIONAL LAYOUT PREPARED FOR AN APERTURE SLIDESHOW AS JPEG FILES ?
I moved to Photoshop to redo the editing job, then import into Aperture.
Too bad, the order of pictures is lost when exporting to iPad.
And I did not find any solution for modifying orders of pictures on iPad.
iPhoto for iPad says it would do it (drag and drop), but I did not find how yet...
Should I individually drag pictures into an Album on iPad ?
    QUESTION 2
HOW TO MODIFY ORDERS OF PICTURES IN AN IPAD ALBUM ?
There should be solutions for both. Hopefully a simple one that I did not find yet.
    Can anyone help ?

    Hi Constance,
You would first need to export the slideshow from iPhoto as a Quicktime movie.
Then you can view it on your iPad.
    Here's how:
    iPhoto '11: Export a slideshow

iPhoto '11: View photos or slideshows on iPod, iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV

    Hope this information helps ...

  • Aperture NOT SUPPORT Fujifilm X-E2 RAW FILES

Can Anyone inform to aperture to please fix Raw Processing of Fujifilm Cameras in Aperture 3.2.1 in todays world when things are changing so fast still aperture is very behind which not support Raw Files from Fujifilm Cameras...

Aperture is supporting quite a few Fuji cameras, see: http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
    Fujifilm
    FinePix S2 Pro
    FinePix S3 Pro
    FinePix S5 Pro
    FinePix X100**
    X-Pro1***
    X-A1***
    X-E1***
    X-M1***
    X20***
    X100S***
Only for the newer cameras the raw support has been released as part of the newer operating systems. You need Aperture 3.4 or later to be able to use the raw support for the X-series cameras.
Since you are running OS X 10.9.2, you could update to Aperture 3.5.1 and use the raw support for the Fuji X-E1. I expect, that any raw support for the successor Fuji X-E2 will also be released for the current Aperture version and not the older Aperture 3.2.1.

I have an international unlocked iPhone and currently using T-Mobile service.
After I installed the carrier support update that came out today, I no longer have the option of using my phone as a mobile hotspot. I have deleted the carrier update file at C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes but my phone is still crippled. Is there any way to fix this?

  • Can I still download iPod software updates? iPod is out of warranty.

Can I still download iPod software updates? iPod is out of warranty.

Can I still download iPod software updates?
Yes, assuming they're compatible with that iPod model. iOS 4 can't be used on the original iPod touch.
    iPod is out of warranty.
This only affects how long Apple will freely provide technical support, repairs to, or replacement of the device.

  • Why won't Aperture 2 support RAW files imported from Canon 60D when it does from my Olympus DSLR?

Why won't Aperture 2 support RAW files imported from Canon 60D when it does from my Olympus DSLR?

I'm afriad the fact that your Olympus dSLR is supported is no relevance.
The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Support for individual camera models has to be added one by one, and Apple will update the OS to work with the most recent version of the software. That's an incentive for you to keep up-to-date. So, for support for your 60D you'll need 10.6.5 plus Aperture 3 and/or iPhoto 11.

  • Aperture raw support sony dsc-rx100

Do you know when Aperture will support raw (*.arw) files from Sony DSC-RX100.

Slightly off topic but since a few people have the camera already, has anyone tried the RX100 with the ipad camera connector?  Speculation is that it won't work, because the RX100 tried to pull power for charging its internal camera battery via USB, so the ipad error's out (doesn't like the attempted power draw) rather than importing the pictures (kind of like connecting a blackberry via the camera kit, in an attempt to download pictures from the blackberry, but not being able to do so since the blackberry wants to pull power via the USB port, too).

  • How do I show and aperture slideshow on Apple TV?

I would like to show an aperture slideshow on Apple TV with airplay.  Is this possible or do I have to export it as quicktime or something fir

Do you have any suggestion for making my flat screen color match my monitor better? I calibrate my monitor using Color Eyes Display Pro, so I am aware that I may never have an exact match, but it would be great to be closer.
    Also, what is 'handbrake'?
    Thanks again!
Handbrake is a video conversion application. It transcodes DVDs, BluRay video or any simple video file such as those output by Lightroom into almost anything you want, but focused on files that iPhones and AppleTV understands. It's online here: http://handbrake.fr/ . I use it on all my video to lower the filesize significantly. I don't do a lot of video, but sometimes do "behind the scenes" stuff simply in iMovie, but the files that output are crazy large and can be really lowered in size simply by running them through handbrake.
Regarding the color matching, this can generally be done by calibrating the settings on your HDTV using something like a calibration disk. Generally these TVs (even if they are big name brands) come really badly calibrated out of the box to oversaturate color and give way too much contrast and far too high black levels as that is what consumers tend to like. They are also generally set up to sharpen the images, which you really do not want as it changes contrast (it impacts gamma) and such so turn off all sharpening and all dynamic contrast modes in the TVs menus. If you have kids, the Disney BluRay disks include a calibration tool that works really well. I have used the one on our Toy Story 3 BluRay disk to calibrate the living room HDTV. Afterwards I get really good matching results from it when streamed to from the AppleTV.

  • Aperture cannot support Nikon df raw file

hey, i just bought a new nikon df camera, aperture cannot support my RAW NEF flie. is there any updates available?

Once Apple adds raw support, which will probably come in a Camera Raw system update rather than an Aperture update, the raw files should just start working. For the time being, configure your camera to shoot RAW+JPEG and then, in Aperture, select your imported photos and choose "Use JPEG as original" from the Photo menu. Or something like that. Later you can change it back to "Use raw as original".
Very jealous of your new camera!
