Aperture:  SLOW and fans running at peak!

My computer is perfect for every app except Aperture 1.5.2 seems to kill it. The fans are running at 6K rpm and the program keeps running super slow.
Any help please?

MacBook Air running slow and fan is really loud and using lots of battery.  How to fix?

Runaway applications can shorten battery runtime, affect performance, and increase heat and fan activity

will not boot up and fans run at high speed

after much head scratching I ran the hardware test disk from cd. The test showed a memory issue I eliminated the faulty one systematically. So it wasn't a hard drive or software problem in the end it was faulty memory. What was misleading was the computer telling me there was a fault on the hard drive. The machine works fine now. Thanks to people's comments I learned a bit more about the G5 that helped eliminate probable causes

  • Early 2008 MacBookPro keyboard backlight off and fans run at high speed

    Hi!
    I wrote from Turkey.
My Early 2008 MacBookPro 2.40 ghz 4 gb Ram OSX Mavericks machine's keyboard backlight off and fans run at high speed; it seems an exact smc resetting problem.
So i tried the 2 ways of SMC restting procedure; both battery you can move and not, but nothings changed on the situation..
On the way for removable battery; nothing changed but on the way for umremovable battery way; keyboard backlight flashes and gone, but fans are at high speed not changed. So nothing changed.
What can i do right now? i'll wait for your advices
    Thanks

Your Mac may need a new PRAM battery.  Once it is over 4 years old, that often is needed.

  • 3 tones and fan running

G5Imac had 3 tones and fan running at start up. Now it will start and the fan starts immediatly. Also had a few kernal panics prior. help!

    Hi Miriam ,
Thanks so much for your info on my Imac. I took out the ram and reseated them. I had 256 on top and 512 on bottom,. I removed the completely and put them back in . The problem was sorta solved but now its doing the kernel panic thing again. And once I got a black screen that flashed something re; Darwin? Should I buy a 512 for the top slot? I heard that the top and bottom memory should match. Also thank you for the info on the extension program. It has already been in the shop for the power issue.

  • Why is my macbook Slow and fan always running

I recently upgraded to Mavericks, and since then my computer has been slow and lagging a lot. I see the perpetual spinning beach ball more than I would like. I have done everything I can think of within my knowledge to rectify the problem but it still seems slow to me. I have unistalled apps, cleared caches, run an antivirus, run onyx and cleanmymac applications. I don't know what else I can do. I also find that my fan is running constantly and when I look at the activity monitor nothing is eating my CPU, in fact it is always below 10%. Here is my most recent Etrescheck. PLEASE HELP!! I'm open to all and any suggestions. Thank YOu

Installing CleanMyMac will corrupt your system. I know of no way to recover from its effects other than to reinstall OS X and other essential software. "Essential" is defined to specifically exclude CleanMyMac as well as all similarly ill-conceived "cleaning" products that are likely to have similar effects. Never install such junk on a Mac.
Erasing your Mac will have the benefit of eradicating it, the useless Avast garbage, and Internet Plug-Ins as well.
You are likely to need more memory. 2 GB is barely sufficient to run any OS later than Snow Leopard. Your MacBook can address as much as 8 GB and I recommend at least 4 GB.

  • Computer running super slow and fan is constantly on

Hello, I am really hoping someone can help me. My computer is running incredibly slow, and the fan is constantly on high as soon as I turn it on. I have tried the SMC reset as I have read in other forums, but it has been an hour now and that has not seemed to work. Is there anything else I can try?

    Pre-Mavericks
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
    Mavericks and later
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the View menu.  Click on the CPU tab in the toolbar.

  • My macbook pro is lagging, freezing, and fan runs at full blast. How can I fix it?

When I start up my 2010 Macbook Pro now, the fan starts running as soon as the spinning gear appears below the apple logo, the boot up is insanely slow, the mouse doesn't track well with my trackpad movements, and trying to open programs often leads to a non-responsive program with the pinwheel of death spinning for minutes at a time.  I try to shut it down (takes approx. 20 min. now) and when the screen goes black, the fan continues full blast.  After that I can boot up the computer and it runs normally, but the whole process takes about 50 minutes longer than it should, especially with a relatively new SSD (~ 8 months old).  Has anyone seen anything like this before or does anyone know how to fix it?
It loads well enough in safe boot, and I've tried cutting out most of the apps that launch at startup with poor results.  I've also tried resetting the SMC with equally poor results.  I need help!
Here's my Etresoft report as well.

Remove Growl, DiVXHTML and other DIVX software (use MPEG4Streamclip or Smartconverter or Wondershare Videoconverter for videos you need to convert for your own use, and not for giving to others unless you own the copyright for it).  Update your Adobe Flash from http://www.adobe.com/
Shut down  Parallels except when you need to use.  Disable Citrix and your File Sharing for VPN or remote access for Citrix except for when you use remote access.  Find out how to remove Peerguardian.  The Mac has its own firewall which blocks all except ping attacks through Apple menu -> System Preferences -> File Sharing.  Use a hardware router to block ping attacks.  Parallels has its own built-in networking firewall for Parallels itself.

  • Yosemite and fan running

I have a late 2009 Imac and since the Yosemite install, the fan runs on high constantly. I have checked the Activity Monitor, and closed everything and opened one by one to see if I could diagnose the issue. It doesn't matter what I have open, it runs all the time. In sleep mode, it stops running. I have the creative suite, Office, and just the normal software loaded, nothing out of the ordinary. This computer is maxed out on memory and storage, I have an external drive for back up. I tried to make sure everything else is upgraded as well. The fan in this computer was replaced in November of 2013, as well as the hard drive which was on recall.
This computer is very well taken care of, and was running excellent up to this point.
I tried the unplug, unhook all the peripherals, and other things i found on google search. Is it just me, or is this happening to others and does anyone have another idea?
    Thank you!

Four things for you to do:
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    Boot the computer into Safe Mode then reboot it normally. Safe mode startup is slower than usual, but that is normal. If this doesn't help, then;
Create a new admin user account in Users & Groups preferences. Be sure you disable Automatic Login if you use it. Restart the computer. At the login screen select the new account you just created. Does this help?

  • My new macbook working very slow, and fan sound is so much

    Reset the SMC:

  • My MBP wouldn't start this morning, it was just stuck on white screen with grey logo and fan running.  I replaced my magsafe power cord and resolved starting issue.  Now I can't connect to internet and iTunes won't load???  Help?

This morning I was just getting the white screen with logo and status bar with fan running.  I thought it was an issue with the power adapter so I went out and replaced it.  MBP will start now, but won't connect to internet.  I have full wi-fi signal.  Also, when I try to launch iTunes, it just quits right away.  Please help?

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Dock consumes 100% of CPU and fan runs.  What to do?

I have a 2010 MBP with SSD and VMWare (not Parallels).  Every so often, the dock cranks up to consume 100% of the CPU, and the fan runs.  The problem goes away when I reboot. I've tried quiting various applications, but it doesn't seem to make a difference (i.e. I cannot identify a rogue app that's causing this).  There are a lot of discussion threads on this problem with OS 10.6.8 and Parallels, but I'm running Lion 10.7.1 and VMWare (which I've shut down).
Any others have this issue?  Ideas for solution?

Small update: Despite my intelligence, good looks and vast experience I use Google sometimes. To my surprise this file turns out to be a Windows one. Here is someone who is much happier, and since it is some way in my line of thinking I'll quote it, but you might take my previous advice as well:

"- Open up msconfig.exe > Manage startup programs.
    - Disable ALL Realtek entries
    - Close msconfig.exe
    - Right-click on the speaker icon > Audio devices > Speakers (properties)
    - Go to the enhancements tab
    - Check the box to disable all audio enhancements
    - Close the menu
    - Right-click on the speaker icon > Recording devices
    - Disable all your microphones (yeah..., the actual problem seems to come
    from voice inputs rendering..)
    - Close the menu
    - Restart your computer"

  • Restart error message AND fans running

Last night when I went to bed, I found the fans running loudly on my computer and it wouldn't respond to the mouse. I did a hard shut down (held the power button down until it turned off). This morning, when I turn it back on, all I get is dark grey message saying that I need to restart the computer again by holding down the power button. Every time I restart it, the same message comes up. If I leave that screen up for a few minutes, the fans start running high again.
Also, I held Shift while it was starting up to open it in Safe Mode once. The Apple and spinning gear screen ran for a few minutes before it restarted itself and then gave me the restart message again.
I did not install anything new on my computer yesterday, so I have no idea what caused this.
FYI: I have been running Time Machine on an external drive, so I may need to reinstall the OS and restore, but I would rather know if I have some faulty hardware or why this is happening. Help, please!

    Hi Mark Novak,
The 'kernel panic' you experienced suggests the problem is hardware related: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1392. Do you have any pci cards or external devices connected? If so, remove them first and restart holding the option + command + P + R until you hear 3-chimes, then release the keys. This procedure zaps the parameter ram: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379.
When this doesn't help, I would hope that your problem is with RAM or the Graphics Card. Try removing and reinstalling the Graphics Card or removing all RAM but the original factory installed RAM the came with your computer. You will have to zap the parameter ram in all cases for your computer to acknowledge the changes.
    Regards
