Aperture slows down on edited files
Hi folks, i run Aperture 2.1.2 on a 13" MacBook 2,4 GHz with 4 GB of RAM.
I noticed a loss of performance on both referenced and managed files as they get edited, especially when added of sharpen and enhance adjustments: the more adjustments they get the more Aperture slows down, especially annoying is scrolling through a 100% zoomed photo, with the movement delayed by 2/3 seconds...
There's actually a difference between referenced and managed files, as managed ones respond a bit better, but still not as an original one.
P.S. all masters are on the internal drive.
Thanks for any suggestion...
cwog is correct about the overhead for displaying edited master images, but I disagree with his suggestion to export to view images. I suggest you use "Quick Preview" to display photos with minimal delay (use "P" as shortcut to turn on and off). You need to make sure you generate a preview automatically and set the size and quality under "Preferences --> Preview." Previews do not require the calculations for display as does the edited master image. Display time is much quicker.

Downloading Aperture has slowed down photo editing on my iMac. Should I delete iPhoto?
Downloading Aperture has slowed down photo editing on my iMac. Should I delete iPhoto?
So it was only the initial preprocessing after an import of a complete library. If your system drive is nearly full, you should expect performance problems. Try to free at least 20% of your drive.
I would try to keep your iPhoto Application - it is only 1.1 GB and you may need it later; but you can safely delete the iPhoto Library once you are sure, you imported it successfully. iPhoto can do some things Aperture cannot - e.g. greeting cards, calendars. And it is always nice to have a second application for testing purposes, if something should go wrong.
But make a backup copy of the iPhoto Library, just in case. Sometimes you will notice years later that a single image not imported correctly, and then you will be glad you still have a backup of the original iPhoto library.

I am having issues related to storage and I believe this is causing my computer to slow down. "Other" files part is the major occupier(180 GB). I have done Omni disk and multiple other cleaning(iTunes-device, restart, etc), yet have not been able to empty any more space, nor to speed up my computer? Any suggestions? All your contributions are welcomed. Thanks. Mehmet Mazhar Celikoyar

PSE 10 system slows down when adding files to catalog
I recently switched from PSE 3 to PSE10 and had issues converting the catalog. I never did resolve those so I decided to start with creating a new catalog in PSE 10. My first session of adding photos worked fine. When I restarted the task the next day, I was asked in participating in making the product better by sharing information about my use with Adobe. I agreed to participate and very quickly noticed that my computer slowed considerably when adding photos from my hard drive. The process still worked but I experienced a dramatic increase in the time it took for photos to be added (e.g. the cursor spins for a couple of minutes while the task is working). I went under my account preferences and opted out of the product participation program but the problem has persisted. I rebooted the computer to see if that would help but it has not. I have turned off all media analysis and both optimized and repaired my catalog and while this has provided some improvement, there are still instances where the system slows down. Now it seems that every other folder's worth of pictures (does not matter how many photos) I add causes this delay.
I appreciate any help anyone can provide in determining why this slow down keeps occuring.
FYI, I am running a new Windows 7, 64-bit system with 8GB DDR-3-1066MHz, and 2 TB hard drive.Have you also edited the Preferences (Performance) to increase the amount of RAM that PSE can use?
Do you have many background processes running? Having a single HDD means that everything running on your computer has to wait in the queue for disk access.
How many photos are you importing?
What file types are the photos?
How large are the photos?

Major Aperture slow-down all of a sudden
All of a sudden, I'm having performance problems with Aperture. I'm running a Dual-core 2.3GHz G5 with 4.5GB of RAM and a GeForce 7800GT, so this shouldn't be a hardware problem. It seems to be a problem when it's trying to display a lot of images. It will slow down immensely, even to the point where I cannot scroll. The really weird part is when the toolbar item images disappear. Anyone have any idea why this would happen? Thanks
Had the same problem today. It started out fast then after several hours of work it slowly started to get slower and slower until it finally just stopped responding. Restart got it going again but it was still pretty slow. Almost like it was building a cache or scratch file that kept getting larger and slowing the program down.
That was on the DP 2.0 G5 not the Quad -
AME CS4 Batch - Slow Down After First File
I've been using AME to batch timelines from various different Premiere Pro projects. Problem is the first one in the batch will take the normal amount of time around 2 hours. Then everyone in the batch after that takes 5 hours.
If I stop the encode once it gets to the second file and slows. And then restart the program and put that one as first it renders in a fraction of the time....
Why does AME drastically slow down after the first file in the queue?Where do you close the ResultSet?
Where do you close the Statement?
Presumably you only create one connection for all users or you close it somewhere. -
How do i slow down and audio file in itunes
I uploaded an audio file from my droid into Itunes, but the file plays back really fast. It sounds like the chipmunks and you can't understand it.
There isn't any way to slow it down in iTunes itself. Probably the Droid is using some codec to encode the file that iTunes doesn't fully understand. iTunes may think, for example, it is a 128k bitrate file whereas it's really 32k and iTunes plays it 4x too fast. What file format does the Droid produce?
You could try using a player such as VLC and see if it does it right.
Once we know the file format produced we might have suggests for solutions. You might end up having to re-code it which is not nice since it turns what is probably a low quality sound file into an even lower one. -
Lightroom 4 (and update) slow down after editing 2 images
Imported 74 Nikon RAW images (from D300) into Lightroom 4 (also tried with RC-1) on 2.8ghz Intel iMac with 4gb memory, approx 180GB free on 320GB HD.
After using the brush on 2nd image the program slows to a crawl. It takes a minute or more to load the next image, a dozen or more seconds for Brush to be ready to use. Running OS-X Lion. Getting spinning wheel constantly, and it gets slower after 2nd image. I'm forced to close the program, wait a bit and restart so I can edit another photo in any reasonable time. Also, if I wait in Lightoom, doing nothing for a minute or more, things will speed up again for another 1 or 2 images (if I'm lucky). All software and OS is up to date. No other programs running.
Memory leak or garbage collection problems?
Same thing happens on my Windows 7 laptop using a new Crucial 120gb SSD.
Someone else is editing the same images on their 4 year old PC using Lightroom 3.6 and everything is fine. I'm switching back to see if it helps. Will post here with results.
_BobI can confirm the issue. Using some function (I noticed it on noise reduction too) causes a tremendous slowdown.
I'm using a i72630QM with 8gb ram. It's fast enough to handle that stuff, at least it was on LR3.
Edit: just to clarify what I mean with "slowdown": the program is barely reacting anymore, takes several seconds to come back from minimize, pretty much feels like crashing nonstop.
I can say 99,99% certainty that its not hardware related. -
Computer slows down while downloading files using Safari version 4.0.3
I experience some performance issues while downloading files from the internet.
The system performance/responsiveness is perfect until starting the download process.
E.g. opening the finder takes noticeably more time.
However, the worst is moving the mouse (bluetooth mighty mouse). It's hard to explain, but during a download there's a lag which could be compared to decreasing the mouse sensitivity to a minimum.
Maybe someone could help me with that...
Thanks a lot!HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Check to see how much free drive space there is on the MacBook.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.*
If you need to free up disk space, go here for help.
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/freeingspace.html
Could be an underlying issue with the hard disk. Boot from your install disk and run Disk Utility.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart

FCPX slows down eventually editing AVCHD...why?
Retina Macbook Pro 16GB RAM, GeForce GT 650M 1GB graphics card, Yosemite 10.10.3, FCPX 10.1.4.
I am editing natively the AVCHD 28mbit files that are stored on my SSD internal drive on my macbook pro. Editing is a breeze for about an hour or so and then the system just starts bogging terribly....I am guessing RAM gets used up. If I restart the machine, it gets better most of the time. Is restarting the only solution or am I missing something here? It's just basic editing too, no crazy filters or anything besides maybe a couple short clips with stabilization and a few titles.Brian 2 wrote:
.but still 6GB to run the system? That seems like a lot....
Sounds more or less like my system as well.
Luis was the one who asked about free space, but jus to say 20 GB free is cutting it awfully close.

Does aperture slow down your computers?
I downloaded aperture on my macbookpro, I have a 3.06 processor but it sure runs slow now. Is this common or is there something amiss with my macbookpro?
As an Aperture user, I can attest to wjostens suggestion. Though the application is somewhat of a resource pig, it runs fine on my MBP, but I do have 8Gb of RAM installed. (2.66 i7 CPU).

FCP gradually slows down during edit
Using FCP 4 on a 1.8 G5 with 2GB ram. I have a feature length film I am cutting. 11 hours of footage on a Lacie external hard drive and an hour and a half project in my sequence. The project works great the first twenty minutes it's open or it seems until I rapidly command zoom or some other command, then every time I ask for another command it takes a half beat longer, then a full beat then two beats etc. until finally I have to reboot. It used to work fine. My main external is working off a 800 fire wire. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time.
Welcome to the family.
Search the forum for your term; it's been an issue with FCP for several years. I do not recall a favorable solution but what we most often suggest is to break up your project into shorter reels. It's not a satisfactory answer, we know, and the idea really upsets some types of editors. Hope you're not one of those.

Scrol bar to slow down a video and audio file
Hello,
I need a scrol bar to slow down a video file (video and audio)
Thank you.you want a video to play at something other than its native framerate?
if yes, you can't easily do that with an flvplayback component. you'll need to separate the audio and visual parts of your video and had them to a movieclip timeline. then you'll need to customize the playback speed of that movieclip.
you can use the following to play any movieclip (forward or backward) at any speed:
function playF(mc:MovieClip, m:int, n:int, fps:int):void {
var playFFF2:Function = function(mc:MovieClip):void {
trace(getTimer(),mc.currentFrame);
if (mc.m<mc.n) {
mc.nextFrame();
} else {
mc.prevFrame();
if (mc.currentFrame == mc.n) {
clearInterval(mc.int);
//updateAfterEvent();
mc.m = m;
mc.n = n;
mc.fps = fps;
mc.gotoAndStop(mc.m);
clearInterval(mc.int);
mc.int = setInterval(playFFF2, 1000/mc.fps, mc);
// and to stop it:
function stopF(mc:MovieClip):void {
clearInterval(mc.int); -

Hi,
im new to editing and new to final cut, what i need to do quite urgently is slow down a movie file but have it gradually speed up until its at normal speed, if anyone can point me in the right direction i'de greatly appreciate it
thanks
EmileI'm not really getting to grips with this,
i have a 30 second .mov file, all i want to do is have it start at 50% speed and gradually speed up so that its running at 100% speed by midway through the clip..
it seems like this should be a pretty basic thing to do
