Aperture...so far not sure...

Have 23 days left on my trial...
So far I am not impressed...
It is very slow...I have very good Memory and storage..
Why is it that iPhoto, seems sooo much easier and faster...
Sure aperture has some nice features, but for those of us that take hundreds of photos each week to post to the web quickly, we need ease and speed...
Will hang in there for the remainder of my trial, but nothing beats the ease, quickness of iPhoto.

I purchased Aperture just before the trial became available, and I have to say that I'm glad I did. If I had the opportunity to use a trial, I might not have been as dedicated to learning it as thoroughly as I have, but I spent the money and wanted it to work for me. You might not be like me, but I often give trials a cursory run-through. I often don't have the time to spend to learn a program thoroughly during a trial.
If I had done a trial with Photoshop, I probably wouldn't have realized its power. But I wanted to learn Photoshop, so I bought it and learned it (okay, I'm still learning it!) I'm not equating Aperture with Photoshop here, except to say that there is more than meets the eye. Powerful programs are more complicated and they take time to learn. Aperture is more powerful than iPhoto, hence more complicated. Also, iPhoto is in version 6 something and Aperture is in version 1.5. I'm believing that Aperture will only get better (and hopefully faster).
I'm also going through the Apple Pro Training Series Aperture 1.5 book, and I've gone through the tutorial at lynda.com. (There is a new lynda.com Aperture tutorial - Beyond the Basic coming out soon.) I've watched all the videos on Apples website. I prowl these discussions trying to glean any tip I can. BTW, I've tried every version of Lightroom, and I just don't like it (at least in its present form). I need the photo organization that Aperture brings. I have over 26,000 photos in my library today. My photo shoots are hundreds of photos in a single day. I've used iPhoto for family snapshots for years, but it doesn't come close to the photo sorting and cataloging, metadata and keywording, and photo adjustments that I need for my work.
For a speed improvement, follow the advice to turn off Previews. It takes a few steps. See my post here:

Unfortunately, the Powerbook, while workable is not the optimum hardware for running Aperture. Actually, it's not optimum for Photoshop either (at least for me). I'm currently using a Powerbook (17" w/1GB memory) to run Aperture because I broke my ankle and can't make it upstairs to my studio desktop, but I prefer my desktop.
Anyway, I guess my post is a little on the zealous side. I guess my point is to hang in there until your 30 days are up and take full advantage of each day. In the end, it may not work for your particular workflow, but you won't really know unless you give it a fair chance. It is really easy to create albums when you know how, and the shortcut key for the cropping tool is the "C" key.

The AppleID you are using to buy the book, must be tied to the location of the store where you are ordering the book from. Is your AppleID associated with an australian address? And are you placing the order at the Australian store? The Canadian store will not shiptoAustralia, see these policies: http://www.apple.com/internetservices/terms/sales_policies.html
Also set the "Region" in the language & Text preferences to "Australia", while you are ordering.

Aperture export is not working, "Choose" buttons also not reacting

Suddenly I can't export versions, originals, metadata and export as library anymore. Also all "Choose" buttons do not react anymore. For example its not possible to open another Library or choose the external photo editor in Preferences. If I login with my second useraccount Aperture does work just fine.
On Monday I had no problems at all. Sofar I did the following things:
FIRST.
Repair Diskpermissions and Verify disk which was OK.
Moved to desktop following files:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Aperture
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Apertue
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Aperture
Emptied the trash and restarted. The problem is not solved.
SECOND.
All the above actions and restart.
Aperture Photolibrary first aid, "Repair Permissins" , "Repair Database" and "Rebuild Database".
The problem is not solved.
THIRD.
Uninstalled Aperture and removed all files containing the frase "Aperture" (as far as these files had any connection with the application).
Repair Diskpermissions and Verify disk which was OK.
Emptied the trash and restarted.
Installed Aperture from DVD and update via Apstore.
Still the same problems so I am asking the form members for help.

From what you wrote you seemed to have covered all the bases not sure what else to suggest. What is the system?
Do you have any plugins installed in Aperture ? What about any applications, plugins etc, for this account?
You can try doing a safe boot (hold the shift key down as soon as you hear the start up chime. Hod it until the Apple appears on the screen) Safe boot takes longer to come up, there will be a status bar at the bottom of the screen while it boots. Once it is up you will see Safe Boot in red letters at the top of the screen on the login page. This might not work if you have File Vault turned on.
Once booted in Safe mode log in. Aperture use to not run in Safe mode because the graphics card is restricted but I believe in 3.5. it will run. Note everything will be slow and jerky.
See if that makes a difference. Once done testing boot normally and try it again.

Both Firefox & IE crash even when I have disabeled plug-ins. I have installed new version of Firefox and problem continues. Seems to be related to Flash, but not sure. Firefox will stay open if I go to a page like Google. Also crashes in safe mode.

Both browsers seem to crash when the web page wants plug ins to access pages. Simple ones like Google's home page, or these for example, work fine. I have run several scans with security software, including Malware (latest database), and they don't find anything.

The problem began because my computer had to be sent in because it wouldnt turn on so i had to get it fixed they replaced the motherboard this was the second time the motherboard was replaced and once they did that my firefox hasnt worked the same. I can go on google chrome but thats not what i prefer to use.
& when i right click on firefox it says troubleshoot so im assuming its built in to my computer. im not sure.
I tried the profile manager to create a new profile and that has seemed to work so far. No crashing but it does freeze when i got to facebook and then i have to click ctr alt delete to open task manager to end firefox. It happened twice, the third time i went to google, then twitter and it didnt freeze. I then went to youtube and it froze. So Facebook and youtube make it freeze. Any idea why it does that?

Firefox "stops responding messages" frequently + not sure what the plugins listed under updated ones as "unknown plugin" and " ?research "mean

1) firefox has been giving me problems for several months where it just stops responding, meaning I click on one of the 5 tabs open then it gives me msg "firefox not responding", also happens when I am working with xsitepro website builder development software stops me from moving around the xsitepro program and firefox again says firefox not responding
Note: However, when firefox gives me "not responding msg" it responds after a few minutes and gives me access the tab i clicked on but then happens again when i try to click on another tab
2) went to a page that firefox listed plugins http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ and there are several plugins listed that I do not know what it means below the ones it says it is updated, those are listed as " unknown plugin and ?research "
Not sure what does this mean as far as those plugins that are listed unknown and research. I did a search to see if I could find those plugins under addons but did not see them listed so are these plugins being used and installed on my firefox browswer and if so why are they hidden if they are installed or are they not installed at all

You're not the first person to report that the sessionstore.js or recovery.js file stopped updating with new activity. However, it's rare enough that I can't recall whether we have gotten to the bottom of it in a previous thread. I'll see whether I can search it up.
Meanwhile, someone might be able to come up with a way to watch for problems and extract some debug information, but I'm not personally familiar with such tools.

I have an ipad 3/32GB..I need more storage and not sure how to make better use of icloud and release GB

To add to my original question: I had a 1st generation ipad and 32GB was more than enough storage now I'm having trouble making movies, adding media, etc. I have bought another 15GB of storage on I cloud. Can I put all of my apps on i cloud?
I'm going to be taking an overseas flight and wanted to rent a bunch of movies but I'm not sure how to do that.

To answer your question, you could remove your apps and then download them again as needed. Your purchased apps are part of what is stored in iCloud and purchased apps do not count against the allotment anyway - As far as I know.
You would want to backup to iCloud before you delete the apps. If it were me, I would also back up and sync with iTunes - I still use iTunes and I back up to both iCloud and iTunes.
The suggestion that James made would be OK for bringing the movies with you on the trip .... But you need to be able to use WiFi in order to use the device and the way that I read your question, you want to download movies to watch on the flight. So that will not work on the airline flight. It would store the content for later viewing but won't work on the flight. That is my understanding of the GoFlex drive, but you would have to investigate it further.

I want to store my music files on a NAS (which has an iTunes server built in), but I'm not sure how this will affect my iPhone sync. Will I need a local copy of my music on a computer in order to continue to sync?

I have an iPhone and I sync playlists to it from iTunes. (I have far in excess of 16GB of music/podcasts.)
What I want to do is permanently share my music library with all devices in the house, so I'm planning on buying a NAS server that has a built-in iTunes server. (I don't want to just use my computer to share and leave it on 24/7 because that is a phenominal waste of power.) That way all networked computers can just load the library under the 'SHARED' option in the left pane. However, this had me wondering about how I will continue to sync my music to my iPhone? I wondered if I will need to maintain a duplicate of the library on one of my computers, and then have my iPhone sync with that. Otherwise I'm not sure how it'll work.
Any help/comments/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Incidentally, my first thought was to map a network share from the NAS to my computer, so that my music files appear on the Z: drive, say on my computer. I could then set up iTunes to store music etc in that folder, and to copy all new items to that folder. However, if I do that, all that'll happen is that on my NAS, the library file will become out of date as I add music to the collection but not to the index.

I'm looking for information and pricing on possibly upgrading the processor from the PowerPC to Intel.
While anything is possible if you had enough money... NOPE, you can't change the CPUs to Intel, nor can you get any faster PPC upgrades for it. It'd be far cheaper to buy a new IntelMac than to replace everything inside the G5, and I mean just about everything, then figure out how to machine the case & such to mount Intel Logic Board, Graphic Card & such.

External hard drive, sharing, itunes? Not sure where to post this?

sorry guys but i'm not sure where this belongs, but anyway. I just bought my macbook and purchased a Western Digital harddrive ( external ) anyway I have like 80gigs of pics and music and want to get it from my iPod back onto the computer. Not a problem............My problem is that I can't put it directly onto the external drive I first need to put it on the macbook then transfer it to the externak hardrive. When I do this is winds up on my mac HD and also on my external hardrive. I only want it in one place. Ok, my ultimate goal right now is to buy an iMac which I'm doing this weekend. Got rid of my PC's ( Go Apple !) LOL. I want to put all my music ,videos,pics, movies on the external hardrive and be able to share it with both my Macbook and my imac. I simply want to be able to access my everything from both pc's but get it all from the EHD. Right now it's all on my macbook and I want to free up the space, plus learn how to do it for the future. Sorry to ramble. So far I've posted a few times and someone always comes through. Everyone here is awesome, it's like another planet compared to the PC world.

Put your iTunes folder on the eternal hard drive, and make a alias to it from your home directory on the MacBook (Cmd-L). Do the same when you get the iMac.
I didn't quite get how the two computers are sharing the hard drive, or maybe you'll put the hard drive on the iMac and share the library. There's a lot of ways to make this work. You made a good decision.

Server 2012 VM Guest (AppassureCore) keeps getting BugChecks...not sure whereto start?

Bear with me here as there is a lot of technical data I need to present I believe so that I can help you all help me :)
I have a Server 2012 VM Guest running on Hyper-V on a Server 2012 host.
The VM is running my main Appassure core - I have a replicated core also but am having no issues with it at all.
The Host machine has 2 XEON E5540s, for a total of 8 cores. It has 48 GB of memory.
There is also another VM guest running on this host and that is a Server 2008 R2 that is my FSMO master and has no issues whatsoever.
Both guests are running Virtual Memory with starting memory of 512 and max of 49152.
Both VMs and the host each have their own GBe dedicated NIC.
The problem 2012 VM is setup with 4 virtual processors. The Server 2008 R2 (non-problem) VM is running on 8 Virtual processors.
Since the 2012 machine is running Appassure, I have an iSCSI connection to a NAS device. This is the same setup as the replicated Appassure core in every way except that the replicated core is a physical machine.
All integration services are installed and available.
For the most part, just before each bugcheck, I get a rapid succession of around 350 errors that happen within 2 minutes, then the crash...
I won't list them all, but here are the main ones:

Then comes the motherload - a flood of Ntfs errors. Here are some examples:

If you have made it this far, I thank you. I really have no idea where to go with this and am worried because obviously it involves my main backup so any help would be greatly appreciated.
It should be said that I am also creating a backup of this actual machine from within the machine itself, using AppAssure. Not sure why that matters much except that I am guessing the VSS errors are referring to the actual machine itself - not a protected external
machine.

I am trying to get my vi to trigger, not sure where to add the trigger

I need a vi that can trigger using an analog rising edge (1V), then produces a square wave (any square wave will do for now), and then show the measurement of the waveform. Attached is the code that I have made so far. Not sure how to get a trigger attached, or where to place the trigger, onto what I have done so far. Another question is where to have it triggered from, do I need to add another generate waveform to produce the trigger signal?
Any help is appreciated!!

Hi,
You can place a DAQmx start trigger VI in the code at the top, between the DAQmx Timing and DAQmx write VIs, and then set the trigger type to "Analog Edge" and specify the channel to trigger from (in this case I think you would use the APFI line on your card). Check out the 'Voltage - Continuous Output' Example' if you need help implementing this in code, that example covers analog output with different types of triggering in a setup similar to yours.

I solved my problem and I'm not sure how to delete this thread.

I'm just a lowly user of Aperture but when I want to compare an original image to the edited one on my screen, I simply hit the keyboard letter "M" on my keyboard. This reveals the original photo before editing and hitting M again gives you edited version. I do this in the VIEWER mode to toggle between the two.
You might also try selecting an image while in SPLIT VIEW mode, holding down the command key and selecting a second image...this puts both (or several if you want) images in the viewer in order to compare.

Trouble with while loop, not sure what to put in it in my project

I'm making a class to a simple command line craps game. I must use a while loop to implement craps rules. The rules that i was given are:
if your first roll is a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10, you roll again until either you get a 7 (you lose) or you get the number from your first roll. (i thought 7 or 11 wins, like in the next example)
yeah, thats right, not very good directions. The first directions i had for a different way of doing it using if and else statements were:
The player rolls the two dice.
If the sum of the resulting die values is 7 or 11, the player wins.
If the sum is 2, 3, or 12, the player loses.
If something else is rolled, the player has to roll again to determine the outcome.
If the sum of the second roll is the same as what the player rolled the first time, the player wins. Otherwise the player loses.
(You might get a pair of dice and play a few rounds to try it.)

}I'm not sure of craps rules, the code above makes a first roll and if game isn't won or lose at once (7 and 11 wins, 2,3 or 12 lose) a second roll is done. If the second roll is equals to the first made then the game is won else the game is lose. Is it right?

iTunes match should work for that. I am assuming your friend gave you some music from a flash drive, and yor not sure if he/sh pirided it or not, and this is understandible. this screen shot should help. I also sugest looking into google play, which is not as convienet as far as combining with iTunes, but is free I bleive.

Aperture...so far not sure...
