Aperture & Sony Alpha

I am wondering if my camera's RAW files will work in the program, it didn't in iPhoto, and only the JPGs showed up in Aperture.
I just got this camera, with the thought of editing RAW files in Aperture, but I'm not sure this is going to work out.
Can anyone help me out?
iMac: 20in 1GB 2GHz Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Sony Alpha 100 and Memory Stick Duo 2GB

Brand new cameras are usually not supported by Raw processing software until new updates. A future update in Aperture and/or Mac OS X should add your camera to the list. Until then you'll have to deal with the software came with the camera or shoot in jpg.

Support in iPhoto for the Sony Alpha RAW format was just added. I've noticed however, a bit of a problem and I'm wondering if anyone else has. When I take an picture is B&W RAW, it imports into iPhoto as a colour image. But if I view the image on the memory card using the finder, the thumbnail is B&W. If I then copy it to my Mac and use Photoshop or the Sony Image Data Converter, it's always B&W, which is as it should be. So far, iPhoto has imported every B&W RAW from the Alpha as a colour image (I'm assuming that the colour information is still in the file, which is why it is able to do this).
    Anyone else notice this?

Same with me, Aperture 2, iPhoto 09, and a Pentax Kx.

  • Sony Alpha 6000 RAW support is missing

    Hi,
I just bought a SONY Alpha 6000. I like to shoot in RAW, however, neither Aperture or iPhoto support my SONY RAW format.
I like to know where can I send in request to get it updated?

File a feature request using this form:

  • Sony alpha 900 raw support

When Aperture will support the Sony alpha 900 raw files?

Anybody that knows is under NDA and won't be talking. Apple typically takes a few months to roll out raw support for new cameras.
Fortunately, you can convert to DNG and use the raw files from your A900 that way. Adobe's recently released DNG Converter v4.6 includes the A900, D90, and 50D.

  • Sony Alpha ILCE-6000 raw compatibility

    Hello,
Does someone know when the Sony Alpha ILCE-6000 raw compatibility will come ?
It's a few month now this camera is available and Aperture doesn't seem to be able to treat that RAW.
    Thank you for helping me.
    MCCHPS.
    OS X 10.9.4
    Aperture 3.5.1

    Hi all,
the situation is very unsatisfactory ... even you know some more details:
    1) with the OSX 10.9.3 update Aperture can read RAWs from the Alpha 6000 (as well the Alpha 5000), but the result is an overexposed picture (see e.g. http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/53734631).
    2) other commercial tools like LR 5.4 support the camera (since ~ April this year).
    3) even the free raw converters can handle the Alpha 6000 raw.
If one digs deeper into this:
    a) you will discover that the input plug-in file in the 10.9.3 apple camera raw update is accidentally for a different camera model ... there are included correction tables for ISO steps that the 6000er is not capable (50,64,80,100,... the alpha 6000 starts at 100), this explains somehow the overexposure.
    b) for the free tools the community uses the input plug-in files which are foreseen for the NEX-5N ...
    c) ... because they discovered that the commercial tools are doing the same. If you compare the plug-in files in Lightroom designated for the alpha 6000 you will see the same content in the files for the NEX-5N
So it would be easy to patch this really quickly ...
    Please Apple awake !!!
    Best regards,
    Frank

  • Raw sony Alpha 77

    Hello
I bought the new Sony Alpha 77 and recognized that my Aperture Version didn't support the raw data of this camera.
When will the raw converter be available for Aperture 3?

Only Apple can answer that and they never prerelease information.

You can use Adobe's free DNG converter to convert proprietary raws to the universal DNG raw format. Here are the links:
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Adobe DNG Converter 9.0
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Adobe DNG Converter 9.0
Converting to JPEG will be an extra step afterwards.

  • Is there a way to use the Tablet Remote to control a Sony Alpha DSLR Camera?

I own a Sony Tablet and love the ability to use it as a Remote Control.  I also own a Sony Alpha DSLR...yet I can't get the remote control to control the Camera.  Has anyone figured out how to do this yet?  It's a little large, but would be amazing if the camera had DLNA and could automatically publish a photo on the tablet right after I took the pick...with the Tablet remote!!!
    Thanks for any advice.

    Hello Damon,
What is the exact model # of Sony Alpha DSLR Camera?
You can try “Learning from remote” feature if your DSLR camera is remote control capable.
Refer the following link for instructions:
    http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C1023514
Camera should be DLNA server capable in order to access pictures from it using DLNA application in the tablet.

The support for that camera was added in the very latest release of Lightroom, version 5.7.1. Having downloaded Camera Raw 8.7.1 will have no effect on Lightroom because Lightroom doesn't use the Camera Raw plug-in. You need to make sure you have updated Lightroom to the very latest release in order to have support for that camera.

  • Lightroom 5 - Lens correction / correction objectif - Sony Alpha A7 SEL2870

    Hello everybody.
I download lightroom 5 (trial version). I shoot in Raw with my Sony Alpha A7 with the basic lens 28-70 (SEL2870). I didn't found the correction for my lens. The version is (I think) update. How can I do?

  • Camera raw for sony alpha 7 and PS 5

    HI
I am an amateur photographer and am very happy in my little PS5 world.  I do not want to commit to PS6 and the CC and a lifetime of fees.  I am, unfortunately, thinking about getting the sony alpha 7.  It is unclear to me if camera raw 6.7 will support it.  I have read 2 different answers on the internet
I love camera raw in PS. If I can't open these images in PS, can I do it in lightroom?  Does lightroom have a nice camera raw?  (I am using camera raw 6.3 and it is wonderful.)
Is there any easy answer for a very casual photographer who cannot justify the cost of monthly program fees?
    thanks!

The Alpha 7 wasn't supported until Camera Raw 8.3 at the end of last year. ACR 8.3 only works in CS6/CC.
I recommend using the latest available version of Camera Raw for each version of CS, which in your case (CS5) is 6.7.1. The latest versions are usually the best, fixing the most bugs and containing refinements missing from earlier versions.
The cheapest way to carry on with CS5 is to download Adobe DNG Converter, and batch-convert folders of your Alpha files to DNG. It's an extra step after downloading your images, but it's free.
Camera Raw 6.7.1 and DNG Converter 8.6 are both available from the downloads section of the Adobe website. Please note that you may need DNG Converter 8.3 if you are still running CS5 on XP/Vista or (Snow-) Leopard.
Photoshop Lightroom is designed by the same team which writes Camera Raw and uses very similar programming. Consequently, it works in a similar way to Camera Raw (with Bridge) and is updated at the same time—following its version numbering by a increment of 3 (currently Lightroom 5.6). You could buy Lightroom and use it to import and convert your raw files without using DNG Converter and Camera Raw. It's a Marmite thing: some people love it, some don't. You can probably download a free trial and find out for yourself. Once you have converted your images in Lightroom, you can export them to Photoshop CS5 for editing.

  • Best export quality for the Sony Alpha 65

I have the sony alpha 65 which I have left in the default settings when I got it.
I have some footage which I have exported however I don't think the quality is as good as when viewing the original video off the cam.
Any suggestions on the sequence settings and export settings?
    thanks
    S

What format does the Alpha 65 shoot, and what CODEC is used?
The Sequence Setting should match that footage. In lieu of knowing that info (one really should know), a user can Import it into a Project, and then drag a Clip to the New Icon, to create a matching Sequence:

  • I have a Sony Alpha a6000 and I took some photos in the raw format and tried to check them

I have a Sony Alpha a6000 and I took some photos in the raw format and tried to check them out in Photoshop but got a error saying that camera raw was out of date with my new camera.  Even after updating my Photoshop CS 5 extended with camera raw 6.7    I beleive the exact wording was "camera not supported by the current version of Camera Raw"
Is there another version of Camera raw I can download that will allow this or is my camera just too new for the version of photoshop I have?
    Thanks

Adobe’s camera support list suggests you need ACR 8.4 or newer:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Your camera is several years newer than the last ACR plug-in CS5 will host.
If you’re not quite sure you want to spend the money for a new PS, then you can download and use the free DNG Converter 8.4 or newer to make DNGs from the ARW files and those DNGs will have enough new information embedded in them for an older ACR plug-in to work with.  Of course this is more cumbersome than opening the files natively in PS-CC with the newest ACR plug-in.
The most obvious thing would be to subscribe to the CC Photography Plan and get the current versions of both LR and PS-CC for $10/month.   There is a minimum OS requirement of 10.7 or Win 7 currently and maybe 10.8/Win7 for LR6—not sure about the next PS version because Adobe hasn’t publically said as far as I know.
One thing you haven’t seen using only PS-CS5/ACR6.x is that CS6/ACR7 or newer, there is a new toning model that seems superior for most images.

  • Raw-Dateien der Sony Alpha 7 R

    Hallo,
