Aperture Split View Misbehaving

The vertical photos in the split view bar have all switched from being displayed vertically/normally to being rotated and showing "squashed". They only do it with photos imported from my Sony DSV-HX5V, not iPhone or other cameras. Any ideas?

A few simple things first:
- Does the problem persist after closing and re-opening Aperture?
- Are they distorted in Grid view?
- In Split view, does changing from Filmstrip to Grid (still in Split view) correct the distortion? Does changing the size of the Previews in the Split view grid (use the slider) correct them?
- What happens when you select one Preview, and select "Update Preview" from the context-sensitive menu?

  • Horizontal scroll not working  in aperture split view

I had recently upgraded to mountain lion and the newest aperture, but I noticed a problem with horizontal scrolling in aperture split view.  I am currently using a magic mouse, and it scrolls just fine within other applications except in aperture split view.  (it doesn't go to the next picture when I gesture  left and right)  if I do it many times, it will change to the next picture but then stops scrolling again.  I had tried to use a trackpad and it is better but I have to do it slowly and occationally it just doesn't work.  It only happens only in Aperture and not in safari or other applications.  Does anyone know the solution to this problem?  Any little help is greatly apprecitated

The recent Aperture update disabled the "Scroll to navigate photos in the Viewer" option.
You may need to reenable it in the Aperture general preferences.

  • Aperture Split View Problem

The vertical photos in the split view bar at the bottom have all switched from being displayed normally to being rotated and showing squashed and distorted.
I have tried to close and re-open Aperture, and I have also restarted the computer.  The pictures are distorted whther they are in the Grid view or Filmstrip.  I also tried to "Update Preview", but it tells me that it is up to date. The horizontal/landscape pictures are showing fine, the problem is only with the vertical/portrait pictures in the Split view.

Select all the ones in one Project and run "Photos→Generate Preview".  Does that work?
"Update Preview" changes to "Generate Preview" when "{Alt}" is pressed.

  • Aperture viewer issues after full screen view - in Browser, Split View and Viewer modes

2012 MacBook Air, Mac OS 10.8.2, Aperture 3.4.3. Everything is up to date and, as usual, has been working just fine since the last update a few weeks ago. Full screen view never caused any issues... until today.
I tried quitting and restarting Aperture. Using another Aperture library. Quitting everything and restarting my MBA... same behavior.
I went into the full screen view, edited a photo and got out of the full screen view to export it.
All of the sudden, only one line of thumbnails was showing up in my Broswer view (out of 380 pictures in that project). Looking closely at it, it seems like the Aperture now thinks that the desktop area it has to work with (the dark gray area where the thumbnails are) is larger than the aperture window because a part of photo is showing up cut off at the right edge and no slider at the bottom:
(note: at the bottom it says 380 items displayed)
Going back to full screen view, everything looks and works as nothing has happened:
In Broswer view, if I scroll down such that the first row is out of the view, the second row of thumbnails shows up:
Now, if I scroll back up, two rows of thumbnails are shown in the viewer:
To get the third row to show up, I need to scroll down to get the top two rows out of the way and so on.
At some point I saw this weirdo but have not been able to replicate it:
Split View also has its issues - the photo itself is no longer centered and the slider at the bottom gets out of the way past the right edge of the Aperture window before reaching the end of the row of thumbnails:
Finally, when double clicking the photo in the Split View to view it by itself, once again it is not centered and cut off on the right side but there is no slider...
Any ideas? I tried looking through the Viewer-related threads on here and did not see anything close to this. Is there a way to contact Apple support? I found some form somewhere on the website, but it had a dropdown for operating system and nothing past 10.7.2 so I am guessing it is not being maintained...

  • Previews not displaying in split view in Aperture

Recently Aperture has stopped displaying previews for a number of photos (but strangely not all) when in split view. If I switch to browser view the previews are all there, and if I then return to split view they are back to being displayed. But if I move to another project and then return to the first they are gone again. I have repaired the Aperture database with no change, but not yet rebuilt it. This change in behaviour was not concurrent with an Aperture update. However there have been lots of updates affecting 10.8.2 since the most recent version of Aperture. Any thoughts?

  • Aperture - Browser, Split View, and Viewer

Photos in my browser will not wrap around into rows. I have just one row which goes right off my screen. I also have this problem in the split view with the thumbnails. And in viewer I have no photo at all. Can anyone suggest a way to fix this problem???

You should have a row of icons along the top of the Aperture window. In the top right are icons which will directly let you switch to "Browser", "Split View" or "Viewer" mode. If you do not see any icons, click the grey oval in the extreme upper-right corner of the Aperture window (it toggles the icon toolbar on & off).
Click the "Split View" icon to switch to that mode.
You should have an image taking up most of the window, and a row of other images along the bottom. If this is just one row which you can only pan left & right then you are in "filmstrip" mode.
Just above the strip of thumbnails at the bottom is a pull-down field that lets you select the sort order, and three icons just to the right. They select whether you want to be in "Filmstrip" mode (which is what it sounds like you are in right now), "Grid" mode (which is what it sounds like you want), and "List" mode. Click the middle icon to switch it to "Grid" mode.
If you aren't seeing enough of your images, you can re-apportion the window. There's a thin gray line dividing the larger picture above from the thumbnails below. Float your mouse directly over that thin gray line and your mouse pointer should switch to a line with an arrow pointing up & down. Press and hold your left mouse button while sliding the mouse up or down to change the proportion of the two sections of the window.

  • Aperture stopped showing pictures in viewer and split view

Suddenly Aperture 3 has stopped showing any pictures in viewer and split view (except for the bottom fim strip) but I can see them all in browser view. I have tried using Aperture Repair and have reset Aperture (using Clean My Mac to delete the user setup files). I also tried creating a new library with just a few files to see if the size of the library was an issue. I also tried opening the libraries in iPhoto and have the same result. I can browse the minatures but not open the larger pictures.
The only thing I have yet to try is to delete and reinstall Aperture. But since iPhoto has the same problem, I don't see how that would be the issue.
Aperture is version 3.5.1, OS is OSX 10.9.2.

I would have to redo the cleanmymac step but essentially it is like creating a new install before using the app.
If you do not know, what exactly will be uninstalled, by a general cleaning application, don't use it. That is risky.
Using a different user account makes no difference.
That means, you are having a system wide problem. Fixing your Aperture library or settings in your account will probably not help.
First thing to try, reinstall Aperture.
And if that does not bring your split view back, reinstall Mavericks. You may have missing caches and necessary configuration files, since iPhoto is having the same problem.
Did you run CleanMyMac to uninstall other applications, before the problem first occured? Usually it is much safer, to use only the uninstaller, that come with an application. Otherwise, you are risking to uninstall items needed by other applications or the system.
To reinstall MacOS X 10.9.2, boot into OS X Recovery, see this document:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718

  • Browser, Split VIew, Viewer and other Icons are Disabled after Import

If I import from an SDHC card, occasionally the Browser, Split View and all other toolbar icons except for "new" become disabled "grayed out" but the corresponding Menu options work fine.
I just installed Aperture, and was not a Aperture 2.0 user, so there's no conversion going on. It does this when I import any number of photos, 10 or 100 or anything in between, but it doesn't always do it. So far, I've only imported from the same memory card/camera.
To fix the issue, I have to import any photo from the hard drive or do a second memory card import. Very much a bug, I think.
Anyone else see this issue? (aperture 3.0.2)

  • HT3805 In my split view, the viewed picture is all the way to the right- only a sliver is visible. How do I get it to be centered and viewed in total?

How can I get the picture in my split view to move back to the center where I can see it all?

    Lynn,
there should be. Are you perhaps looking in the system library?
The User Library should appear in the Finder's "Go" drop down menu, like this:
If your system is Lion or Mt. Lion, you will have to hold down the option-key ⌥ to make it appear in the menu.
Then look in the folder Preferences for "com.aperture.plist" and remove it.
Don't forget to quit Aperture before you do this.

  • How to view rating stars on pictures in browser or split view

On an Imac aperture v3.2 I cannot see the rating stars on the pictures in browser or split view.  I can only see them if i open the metadata for each individual picture.  Does anyone know how to turn this feature on?  My husband has a Macbook pro using the same software and he can see them.

The ratings are part of the Metadata Overlays (link goes to User Manual page with full instructions).  There are seven different Metadata Overlays.  It is helpful to customize each of them.  The customization is done via "View→Metadata Display→Customize".
The Browser Metadata Overlay is toggle on/off with "u".  "{Shift}+u" will toggle the Browser Metadata Overlay between "Basic View" and "Expanded View".
What is most likely is simply that either your Browser Metadata display has been toggled off.  Try each of the toggles above, and see if that doesn't bring back the ratings.  If it doesn't, you'll have to add them back to the Metadata View using the customize command above.

  • Split view for before and after changes?

One feature I used to use a lot on Lightroom as where it would show a split view showing the image before and after changes (adjustments). I cannot find how to do this in Aperture - is it possible, what is this feature called?
(and before any smart person tells me to look in help, I'm tired of responses like that. I've looked and didn't find, and that's why I'm asking here. I've tried Compare, and Before and After Changes etc.)

Unfortunately, no, there is no ability to do the split view like Lightroom has. It's a nice feature.
The closest you can do is to flip back and forth between two versions. Because when you view the master in aperture it shows the original file without crops and straightening, I suggest that once you crop and straighten, you then create a new version and work on that (this is as close as you can get to LR's "snapshot" functionality). You can then flip back and forth between the two versions to see the changes... but you can't see them side by side with a split.

  • Split view changed

I am creating a photo book, and I was using split view to place my photos into the photo book.  Originally, the photos I was placing into the book were on the bottom so I could scroll across and place pictures in photo book where I wanted them (photo book was above).
Then something changed with the split view, now the photos are on the left hand side and I scroll down to place photos into the photo book on right side of screen.
This view is extremely fustrating and I can not figure out how to get split view back to the original format. The other issue is that with this "newly" formated split view I can not use the pictures more than once, with the "old" split view I could use a individual photo more than once to use for background etc...
If someone knows how to change the split view format please, help.  I do not understand how this changed and I can not get it back.
    Thanks!
    Happy Aperture User!

Aperture is large, complex, and powerful.  Before using it to store or manipulate any valuable data files, you should read and understand at least the first seven chapters of the User Manual.  The UI and the general workflow are laid out pretty well.  Spend some time with it, and ask here for clarification of things that don't make sense to you.

  • Why can't see "slider" to scroll images in Split View?

Ok, this is going to be an embarrassingly simple question...
When in the 'Split View' in earlier versions of Aperture (I am now on 3.5.1), I would like to be able to grab the "slider" (I don't know what it's actual name is..) that I would think appears below the images at the bottom of the screen, and then drag it left/right to move through pictures quickly. (just like the slider that appears in a browser window on the right edge that I can use to scroll up, down on a web page).
Right now to scroll through pictures I have to either
    1. Roll mouse button over and over again when the cursor is in the bottom view area (with the little pictures), or
    2. Click on an image, and then arrow right/left to move
For some reason when i am moving the mouse button over and over the slider will sometimes appear. When I try to "grab" it and use the slider to move and scroll left/right through images, it goes away. Most apps when I scroll a direction, the slider will appear and I can grab it and scroll with it.
One time I was able to grab it and use it to move through pictures. Once I went to another view and back it was gone.
And at other times I can't see the slider at all.
What on earth am I doing wrong??
    Yikes
    Thanks-

    You are welcome .
The missing sliders are of the new GUI "Features" that has been introduced with MacOS X Lion and stayed on.
And before you ask, there is no way to get the arrow heads back for the sliders. They are gone for good.

  • What happened to Split View?

I wanted to watch the Macword Keynote today to see what features Steve put out there that we don't currently have.
    One is "Split View" email:
This allows us to see the email message in the current window with the email list at the top, and the mail message at the bottom.
I also wanted to put out there that I can confirm there are 2 extra tabs at the top of iTunes that they previewed, the second to last on the right vaguely makes out "ringtones".
Regardless, at the bottom there is an additional green color category that you cannot make out the text to.
Back to the question... What happened to split view on email?!?!?

It's just annoying, he really spent some time on it.
    Hopefully in an update.

  • Can you set DW to always show split view?

This is not a major problem but an annoying thing and I can't seem to find.  I almost always work in split view - never design view.  Yet DW seems to default to design view. Even if I have previously edited a page in split or even code view, the next time I open that file (if I have closed and opened DW in the meantime) it opens in design view.
I tried making a custom workspace that included viewing files in split view but sure enough whenever I re-open DW any files I open are once again displayed in Design View.
Anyone know how to change this?
    Thanks!
    Ellie

    >>I tried making a custom workspace that included viewing files in split view but sure enough whenever I re-open DW any files I open are once again displayed in Design View.
Yes, the same problem started in CS4-Mac for me.
Just for kicks, I opened my custom workspace a moment ago. I then opened a document to split view, then resaved that setup as a new custom workspace.
Upon reopening Dreamweaver the next time, it remembered my split view setting. However, the time after that, I was back in Design view.
This seems to be pretty buggy.
Hopefully someone will post a solution.
