Aperture Stuck 'Processing' a single image

Have been having trouble all morning trying to get aperture to stop processing an image. it keeps locking up aperture, and forcing me to have to force quit in order to get out. the image is a roundtripped PSD file that was created from a RAW file in aperture. cant even Any suggestions on how to start aperture and maybe quickly delete the image before the processing bar starts up again?

a ton of adjustments were applied to the roundtripped image...including the retouch tool. *edit (the adjustment i am speaking of were applied in Photoshop (CS4) not in aperture. the only adjustment made in aperture prior to roundtripping was a slight exposure boost).
as an update, i've since been able to delete the roundtripped PSD image, and the orignal RAW file...
however, I am still unable to copy the library to another drive (i am attempting to first copy the most recent version of this library as a backup, then do a rebuild on the master library). I get the error message that is posted above.
I am now attempting to export the entire project that contained the aforementioned problem files..and it seems to just stick at 47%. Aperture is not frozen or locked, however it is just sitting on 47% completed (over 10 minutes)...I will let it run, but there seems to be a problem with the most recent batch of files that i imported yesterday into a new project.
Wondering if there are any other solutions rather than deleting the entire project and masters and reimporting (all masters are referenced, and thankfully i did not delete the files off the compact flash card yet.

  • Aperture 3 processes same 519 images on startup

Every time I open Aperture 3.2.2 it says "processing" and I open the activity window and see that it is processing 519 images.  It gets through all 519 and then the processing stops...but after I quit Aperture, the next time I open it it goes back to processing those same 519 images.  It moves through them relatively quickly (about 5-7 minutes tops) but I can see that it's going through the same files again and again.
I think this might be related to an issue I'm having with Apple TV 2 seeing the latest edits I've done to photos.
I have it set to share previews with iLife / iWork.  I also have my projects set to "Maintain Previews For All Projects"
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Well I'm lucky in that the processing of the 519 images doesn't prevent usage of Aperture.  It completes the processing of the 519 images every time.  I've looked at some of the images that it's re-processing....should I update previews / regenerate previews of them?  Or what exactly does processing entail?
    Thanks.

  • Aperture stuck processing. Again and again.

No program like Aperture has managed to crash to the ground my faith in Apple. I was a very happy Macbook user before I trusted my pictures into aperture.
Every once in a while the program hangs with "processing ..." as a message and cannot be recovered in any way.
Last time I did some serious magic, entering the library with a command line and trying to find offensive files. That's because I had a process hogging the CPU that is related to QuickTime, used as a subprocess to visualize files not handled by Aperture itself (at least this is what I gathered with heavy googling).
Today the program crashed while I was importing pictures from my Pentax K-r. I moved around the library while waiting and stopped on a movie.
Hours later, this is what I have in my top. See a com.apple.qt scoring 133.5 percent of CPU (how can that be?)

Kiling 1277 is no cure. I am afraid that uninstalling Aperture might be the cure. Next question is How do I get back my pictures in iPhoto, so that I can have fun trying to reorganize 10 thousand pictures in meaningful groups?

Well, solved the problem the hard Unix way once again.
I suggest that your problem may not really be solved, because most of your issues probably stem from trying to use a ~2006 MB with limiting RAM, GPU and CPU. It is possible to use such a weak box (I did for years), but only with total care in optimizing workflow.
Other question: should I break my library as soon as possibile into smaller libraries? I have 10142 pictures.
No. Multiple Libraries defeat the whole purpose of having an images database. Anyway 10k pix is actually very few for a pro images database, and Aperture is not so much slowed by larger library size as it is by drives management and by workflow.
Drives slow as they fill so as a guideline keep all drives less than ~70% full and keep the Aperture Library on the internal drive. If the internal drive gets too full switch to a referenced-masters workflow with Masters on external drives.
Your Macbook's CPU and especially the relatively weak graphics will be limiting to Aperture. I do not think it will ever run particularly well. It may or may not run "well enough" for your specific workflow.
I ran (in fact still sometimes run) Aperture on a 2006 2.33 GHz C2D MBP with a max of 3 GB RAM, and it does work but it does not rock. Try doing a restart before each Aperture session and keep other applications (especially browsers and Adobe apps) closed when doing Aperture editing.
Since you are having issues I suggest before doing anything else that you make sure that good backups (as opposed to corrupted backups, which are all too common) exist on drives not connected to your setup. Also note that original image files should be independently backed up before import into Aperture.
    Good luck!

  • How do you set up and work single image variations?

    Howdy Forum,
My question is L4 workflow related.
As everyone else, I select an image file and fiddled about in the `Develop` mode until I am happy with the result which is great.
The modified image is in the catalog which is also great.
On other occasions I may wish to revisit the `original`image file and perhaps fiddle about for a different result to that above.
What or how is the best way set up a process for single image variations?
Should I simply be creating a few `copies` in advance on my hard drive, then import them in the usual way?
    Cheers

  • How can I restore a single image from an aperture time machine backup, do I have to restore the entire library? that does not make sense

I hope there has been found a more efficiant solution for this,  how can I restore a single image from an aperture time machine backup, I really hope I don't have to restore the entire library? that does not make sense
    any suggestions?

Did you try browsing your backups in the Finder ?  That is, do not go and "Enter Time Machine".  Instead, navigate to your Time Machine backup via Finder and then manually go to the time period (by folder name) you are looking for ... when you find your Aperture library you can then "Show Package Contents" and find the Master you are looking for.

  • Can't import single images or folders from iPhoto 6.0.2 into Aperture 1.1

    Hi everbody:
After the Aperture 1.1 update, I can no longer import folders or single images from my iPhoto 6.0.2 library into Aperture. When I click "File" - "Import" - "Files and folders", I can browse through the iPhoto library and see all my film rolls and albums, but when I click on any album, no images are displayed and the status line in Aperture says "No images to import". In iPhoto, images are imported into the iPhoto library, not just aliases.
Even after a clean re-installation of Mac OS X (not just archive and install), installing all system updates (10.4.6) and a clean re-install of Aperture with the updates to 1.1, I still have the same problem. I also let iPhoto rebuild it's library. It still doesn't work.
    Does anyone have an idea?
    Thanks for your help.

This is the result of a bug that will be addressed in an update to be released in the very near future. Rest assured that iPhoto import will start working correctly soon.

    Hi Raghavendra,

  • How can I re-name a single image after importing it to Aperture?

I am having a problem renaming a single image after importing it - I would have thought it would be simple!  Does anyone know how this can be done?

    Hi RQ,
    Straight out of the manual
    To rename masters
In the Browser, select an image or group of images.
Choose Metadata > Batch Change (or press Command-Shift-B).
In the Batch Change dialog, choose a naming convention from the Version Name Format pop-up menu to specify how you want the masters named. For example, choose Version Name from the Version Name Format pop-up menu to have your master filenames changed to match the names of the corresponding versions in Aperture. If you choose a custom name format, enter the name you want in the Custom Name text field. For more information about naming files, see Automatically Naming Your Imported Images.
Select the Apply to Master File(s) checkbox, then click OK.
The master files corresponding to the selected images are renamed. For more information about working with the Batch Change dialog, see Batch Changing Metadata.
Hope that is what you are after.

The main point is that Aperture is used to make digital negatives as good as they can be (for the uses you define), but it does not ADD date to your digital negatives, nor does it produce NEW combination files.  For those tasks you need a Graphics program.

  • All of Office 2010 Student and Home Edition Programs open as Microsoft Single Image instances since Installing Outlook 2013

Office 2010 Student and Home Edition has been running without problems on my PC since 2012. Recently installed Microsoft Outlook 2013 (The version of Office 2010 did not include Outlook), since then, every time I open any of the original Office 2010 Programs
eg XCEL, WORD, POWER POINT, ONE NOTE, the program opens in 'Microsoft Office 2010 Single Image' which appears to have to be installed every time any of the programs are opened. The Installation process takes anything up to a few minutes to complete and sometimes
when filing or printing a document, the install restarts, on occasions, in an endless loop which requires random, imaginative keystroke action to terminate. The program shortcut icons all point to the 'Microsoft Office 2010 Single Image' application, I have
not succeeded in finding where the original programs are located as a quick way of trying to fix the problem.
The new installation of Outlook 2013 opens normally.
Evidently, the Outlook 2013 installation has disturbed the 2010 licensing or something ellse, can this unintended change be reversed?
Short of a complete Un-install + Re-Install, I have tried every straightforward  repair/ change (run All on my computer)/ enter product code etc option, all to no avail.
I have read of variations on the same problem relating to mixing Office 2003/ 2007, cases of Outlook 2013 starting up in a similar way, but no examples of the specific problem outlined above. The next step
is a complete Un-install + re-install of Office 2010, is this the answer or do I need to go further? Indeed, is there a quick fix?

    Hi,
The Microsoft Office Single Image 2010 is a set of tools, documentation, and product files that licensed original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) can use to preload Office on new computers for distribution to end users.
I would suggest you to try the methods listed in this KB article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2528748/en-us Just run the Fix-It tool mentioned in the page, or follow the steps to fix it by yourself.
A similar issue is discussed here, you might have a look:

  • Dragging a single image from mac Preview to InDesign CS6 doesn't work but 2 or more images does?

I usually take anywhere form 2500 to 5000 photos in any single day's session. Because of this, I need an easy way to sort through them and grab just the one's I need to import to my InDesign "book". I have been using CS3 for years now, and what I always did was open up Preview on my Mac to browse all my days photos. Then when I found a good one, I would simply drag that single image over to my opened InDesign screen and just drop it into a page. I would then go back to Preview and continue this procedure until I had looked through all the days images. I could even drag multiple images over and once I was over InDesign I can just click each image and pop them into various pages with ease. Then I upgraded to CS6 and I've hit a kink in the works. When I drag over a single image to InDesign, before I drop it into the page my mouse pointer looks like 3 tiny paste images (the little rectangle with the folded down upper left corner). If I release my mouse to drop the image into InDesign, it just flys back to Preview and doesn't drop into InDesign. Now if I get 2 or more images from Preview, this process works just like it always did. But 1 single image... never. I've tried holding down command, shift, control, option, and combos of those buttons to see if anything changes and it never does. I always get the mouse icon with 3 little paste icons. In CS3 if I dragged a single image it would only show 1 paste icon and 3 icons if I dragged 2 or more, but not in CS6. Is there a setting I'm missing or a preference? I've tried looking through everything that I can find to no avail. There has to be a way??? Thanks!

    Use Bridge instead
    good luck

You can also run "bde_wf_item.sql" script.

  • Can Aperture really search thousands of images fast?

I have iViewMediaPro (now Expression Media) on my machine. It is painfully slow to do anything despite it's boast. At the moment I use Photo Mechanic to import, browse and sort and RAW Developer to process, then Photoshop for fine tuning. Can Aperture do all this and still be a fast searching, quick sorting database? If so I'll buy it. At the moment I have Aperture version 1.5 but on opening it really is different to my current workflow. It looks scary! For instance can I batch process? Any unbiaised opinions from pro photogs greatly appreciated.

The short answer is yes, Aperture can search thousands of images fast on strong appropriately configured Mac hardware. Actually the search functions will often run fast even on weak hardware; it is mostly edits that choke slower boxes.
Your G5 configuration was not fully specified. Most G5s will not run Aperture well (e.g. stock G5 graphics cards provide unacceptable Aperture performance), so before moving forward you should post your complete hardware spec here.
I strongly recommend that every DSLR photog with adequate computer hardware first spend $33 and work through the tutorial CD Apple Pro Training Series: Aperture 1.5 (Apple Pro Training) by Orlando Luna and Ben Long (Paperback - Oct 18, 2006). Have the CD and a MacIntel (or G5 tower with advanced graphics card) with 2 GB or preferably more of RAM prior to ordering the Aperture trial so you don't waste time of the 30 day trial. Note that the value is in the tutorial, not in using the book as a manual.
IMO a cursory examination of Aperture usually turns out to be mostly a waste of time, or leads to bad workflow habits or folks simply do not get it. Carefully working the tutorial is by far the best way to learn this new killer app category.
    Good luck!
    -Allen Wicks
Edit: Aperture version 2.0.1 is now out, and a new version of the Luna/Long tutorial is available for preorder: Apple Pro Training Series: Aperture 2 (Apple Pro Training Series) by Ben Long, Richard Harrington, and Orlando Luna (Paperback - May 8, 2008). I have not reviewed the v2 tutorial.
IMO iViewMP was a good app for film workflows but did not keep up with DSLR's demands. Then MS buying it was its death knell as far as I am concerned.

  • Import a single image/video

From my iPhone, can I import single images/videos one at a time?
Example: on a PC, I can view every image and video file individually. After preview, I can copy and paste only the images/videos that I want, one at a time.
How can I do this same process on a mac?
ALSO, when pluging the iPhone into the mac using the included USB cable, the iPhone does NOT show up in the Finder. What's frustrating is that my iPod and ALL my flash drives DO show up in the finder.
    Please help. Thanks.

Are you saying you want the same image in more than one frame or you
want the one image to span multiple frames?
If the latter, create the frames and then turn them into a compound
path. Place the image into that.
