Aperture-to-Elements 11 fails

When I try to send an image from Aperture (latest version 3.4.3, running on Mountain Lion) to Photoshop Elements 11 via the "Edit with Photoshop Elements 11" menu command, PE 11 opens fine but displays a blank gray area where the image should have ended up. What might I be doing wrong?

You need to link to the Editor application in Support Files; not the alias.

for windows you should have an exe and a 7z file. put both in the same directory and double click the exe.

Using Aperture 3.03 and Mac OS 10.6.4, all updates included.
This is the Console Message indicating the bug where Aperture 3.x cannot display in its viewer an image with an *embedded color profile*. These images (regardless whether tiff or jpegs) were displayed without problems in Aperture 2.x and do not pose any problems with Preview, Photoshop or Graphic Converter. If one converts the color profile to lets say ProPhoto or sRGB, Aperture works -
but this is no solution as colors are different then.
Is there any clue - based on the console message above - where the problem might be? The bug can be reproduced on different Mac Models with Aperture 3.x and vanishes with Aperture 2.x

please let us not fight over words - fact is, that with at least 2 totally different users and 4 different Mac computers Aperture 3.x behaves totally different (i.e. cannot display these images) than Aperture 2.x. The special color profile is embedded because 15.000 images were scanned with a Nikon LS5000
scanner. I don't know how to upload this color profile (which has been tested to be correct) to this
forum. Would you care if I sent you an E-Mail with the special profile attached so you could yourself
try and see?

Retry of unsuccessful installation of Photoshop Elements fails because it cannot find files which it believes to be present in order to remove them first.

W7 CD of both Photoshop Element and Premiere Elements 12: Could get the Organizer of Photoshop installed and working but could not install the editor completely; Premiere Elements seemed to install OK but I was at the time only interested in using Photoshop so did not verify this. Read instructions in Troubleshoot Installation, and for convenience dragged the CD files to the C Drive. I then re-ran the installation process, which initially tries to uninstall the existing installation but this failed as it stated that some files were in use. I ended up uninstalling Premiere Elements because of the shared components but this made no difference. I used Windows Remove Programs tool but it stated that some files were in use so could not be removed. I used autoruns to search for and prevent from launching at Startup, all Adobe s/w, then searched for and tried to remove all Photoshop files but got the same message. I have subsequently discovered that I need to remove them in a specific order, next I ran CCleaner to clear the registry. Still the same problem, so tried the install from a Clean Boot. Same problem, the wording is currently Error 2343 Specified Path is empty. I re-installed Premiere Elements which appears again to be OK before try to re-install Photoshop Elements - the same error message appears. The Start search box finds 3 register entries for Photoshop but no files. The register entries date are from earlier installation attempts on different dates: cc_20141016_211910.reg ......_141008.reg .........._213127 Should these be manually deleted? Any other suggestions?

I did uninstall Adobe Air, Adobe Reader XI and another Adobe product, rebooted, and after this the installation was possible with no problems!

Open old library in aperture 3.5 fails

I upgraded to 3.5 on my mac mini, but now I can't open my existing libraries (from 3.2) :
it says the lib has to be converted,
that I have to reload aperture for that to happen,
that it will reload and convert my lib...
but then I just reloads my current 3.5 lib, and not the 3.2 one I tried to switch to, hopping it will be converted !!
I can open those libs on my macbook with Aperture 3.2
Aperture 3.5 on the mini won't open them, and fails to convert them (not sure it even tries)
There is no update available for the macbook, 3.2 is the most up-to-date version it can get (it's a pre-appstore install).
So... What now ?

Quit Aperture and then locate the library you want to upgrade in the Finder. Double click the library. This will open Aperture which will ask you if you want to upgrade. Say yes.
It is a good idea to have backups of the libraries before upgrading them. The procedure usually goes ok but you never know.

Aperture 3 Update Fails to Recognize That I Have Aperture 3

I never have had this happen before. I downloaded the Aperture 3.0.1 update, and the OS wouldn't let me install it because it said I had to have Aperture 3 installed. I DO have Aperture 3 installed. Software Update also failed to show the Aperture 3.0.1 update, so I think it, too, doesn't see that I have Aperture 3 installed. So, any thoughts on how to solve this conundrum?

No, it's not the trial version. I purchased the full-meal deal. I installed it and have been using it steadily with no problems. I keep all my software up-to-date, and am frustrated with this problem. It just seems that in the installation somehow the Aperture version wasn't noted in whatever spot it should have been recorded.

Problem with inconsistent print dialogue box/Aperture and Elements?

I just purchased an Epson r1900. In Aperture everything is great! I can pull up icc profiles and the new print dialogue box features all the epson papers (glossy, Matte, Art, CD) in menus with submenus. But in Photoshop Elements 6, I get an old dialogue box which only shows the old Epson papers-Photo. Photo glossy, matte. There is no way, for instance, to choose Velvet art-and that is what I am using. It is driving me nuts. I have thrown out preferences, updated drivers, updated applications, fixed permissions...you name it. same thing in Apple Pages. Why am I not seeing the same dialogue box? Is this not OS controlled? The R1900 is always chosen. ( I do have an older printer as well, but definitely not selected.

I have the same problem since I installed Snow Leopard. I have upgraded to the newest canon driver for my Canon Pixma IP5200 printer. Calibrating seems to no longer have a reliable impact on my prints. Also Aperture under SL will not save my preset information for media type, paper source or print quality in the print settings.
I am assuming this is a bug related to SL and hopefully will be addressed soon... It is very frustrating as I have waisted a lot of time ink and photo paper in the days since I have moved up to SL
When will we see a fix?

Photoshop Elements fails

Just loaded Photoshop Elements 4.0 to Macbook with OS X 10.4. Upon opening after install, error message that application cannot launch. It fails onscreen as TWAIN menus are running. Is Elements conflicting with my CS versions of Indesign and Illustrator? I am running Acrobat 6.0. I have an Epson Stylus CX4200 Printer/Copier/Scanner. Is there a conflict with this? I am also having neverending problems setting up Mail with sympatico. Do you think I have bought a lemon mac here?

The mac version of elements cannot use your catalog and does not contain the organizer. If you have tags you want to keep for use on the mac, use the write tags to file command in the Windows organizer, which will convert the tags to metadata keywords the mac version of PE can understand. Depending on your external is formatted and what kind of sharing you've got set up, the mac should be able to see the photos on the external.

Why did my install of an older version of Photoshop Elements fail?

I tried to install a 2001 version of Photoshop Elements, but it failed to install stating that "Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later is Required." I have Windows 7, so therefore I should have at least Internet Explorer 9. Also when I tried to install it on my MAC it also failed stating that "Install failed because Classic Mode is no longer supported." So why can't I install this program on my MAC or Windows 7?
I just bought this off eBay hoping to score a deal on an older program to use and get familiar with before installing a newer version and finding out I didn't like it or it wouldn't meet my needs. Any help in this manner is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

First off, you must be referring to a very old version of Photoshop Elements, not even sure it is version 1. Learning that will not help you very much when you try to go for the latest version - it will be like starting again.
The old version did not know anything of the later versions of Internet Explorer and the installer gets confused. You can trick it by doing some registry edits (see following document) but I strongly advise against it unless you are very competent with computers. Get things wrong and you could kill your system.
Photoshop Elements (PSE) knowledge base.
In addition to the level of Internet Explorer, you will run into problems if you have large disk drives.
I'm not a MAC expert but the older versions of Photoshop Elements were designed to run on PowerPC-based computers and will not run on systems later than MAC OS 10.6.x.
If you are serious about getting to know Photoshop Elements, the best thing is to get the latest trial version. Download that and install it and you can try it for 30 days. If you decide you like it, then you could look out for bargains at your local store or online.

I am thinking of getting Aperture 3 and I have Photoshop Elements 6. Do they have a lot in common ?
Should I stick with what I have or spend the bucks for Elements. I also have IPhoto and IMovie 09.

Allen is right. They are intended for completely different purposes.
If what you want to do is shoot photos which largely just remain as photos, but you'd like to tweak & adjust them and you need to manage your photos, then Aperture is what you want. It's more powerful at doing the common workflow adjustments than a photo-editing tool. It's especially powerful at dealing with RAW images (more than JPEGs)
If what you want to do is radically alter your photos, or create composite artwork based on taking bits and pieces from various other images, doing special effects, etc. and you don't need photo management (either because you're using something else or because you don't plan on having so many photos that it's a problem) then Elements is designed for this.
BTW, Aperture will work with Photoshop. You can define Photoshop (or Elements) as an 'External editor'). After invoking the external editor, any change you 'save' is returned back to the Aperture library.
Aperture adjustments are 'non-destructive' (meaning you can always undo any adjustment and the original image is treated as a digital negative which is never altered.) Photoshop is 'destructive' (it will let you over-write your original image and if you don't want that to happen then the effort to manage and prevent it is entirely left to you.) When Aperture uses Photoshop as an 'external editor' it actually creates a copy of your image and sends the copy for editing (preserving the original). If you want it'll automatically put the copy into a 'stack' with the original so that you can maintain the association of the pre & post edited versions of the image.
The "trend" in Aperture has been to take those types of things that photographers regularly want to do and build them in -- reducing the reliance on external editors. With each update I find myself relying less and less on using Photoshop (I still need it -- just not nearly as often).

Aperture Library Repair fail

I have Aperture 3, a 250GB Aperture Library and it faqiled to load this evening, just hung. I reapired permissions, tried to clean up the database and rebuild the database, none of which would run.I can find the library, look inside and see that the files are there in the folders. Aperture wont load it as the repair failed and was interrupted. Tried repair but the program bombs out.
Am scratching my head what to do?
Is there an external repair program that i can run over it? Aperture crashes out.

I too am having difficulty with Aperture permissions. This permission problem has plagued me for the last year. Permissions will not verify using disk utility (Version 13) and disk utility fails to complete the repair after 7 minutes. Now my Aperture drive with all my libraries will not mount. The error message says to copy all files and reformat. How do you do this if disk utility will not mount the drive?

Aperture 3 installation failed

Hi,
I keep on getting installation failed for my aperture 3 installation, no further information is supplied. Tried restarting computer and install again a few times but all attempts failed. Anyone has any idea of how to fix this or know where I can find a log file for the exact error?

Ok, tried following the directions and this worked:
Placed the Aperture3.0Trial.dmg file in the Applications folder;
Clicked on the Aperture3.0Trial.dmg file.
-The Aperture Trial 3.0 "volume" is mounted.
- A window "Aperture Trial 3.0" opens which contains the ApertureTrial.mpkg file.
Click on the ApertureTrial.mpkg file.
That's it!

What can I do? The Aperture said "Update failed" !

I have just installed my Aperture 3.0.3 (trial version), but after I have done the registration, the Aperture prompt out a warning window written "Update Failed", and then quit the application.
I try to reinstall it, but the result was the same.

Elements fails to connect to iphone 5. has anyone fixed this problem?

each time I connect iphone to the computer, the photo downloader cannot connect to the phone and fails to upload any photos. It simply gets stuck trying to connect and never connects. Has anyone had this problem and have you fixed it?

Leaving PSE out of the picture, temporarily, do your devices show up in Windows Explorer and can you copy images from them to a folder on your computer's drive?
First you want to disable the Photo Downloader. To disable the downloader, find the little camera icon on the bottom right hand side of the Windows taskbar, right click on it, and you should be given the option to disable it.
Next, click on "Start" on Windows task bar, open the "All programs" list, find "Scanner and Camera Wizard" in "Accessories." This program - Scanner and Camera Wizard - will be the default program you use to download photos from iphone to computer. Every time you connect your iphone with your computer, you should be given a dialogue window where you can pick the "Scanner and Camera Wizard" program to download the photos. Once selected, the program will take you through a step-by-step wizard to download the photos. Within the process of downloading, you can select folders or create a new folder for the photos. In my opinion, making a new folder makes it easier to import them altogether into photoshop organizer where I usually do the "Smart Fix" for all the photos.
Once you have the photos downloaded, open up Photoshop's organizer interface, go to "files," and then "Get photos and videos." Here you will select "from files and folders." Locate the folder where the photos are stored, and then import them directly into Photoshop. Now, you should be at where you usually land if the photo downloader was working properly.
Also do check if you have updated the software to te latest patch.Go to the Editor menu and click:
Help >> About Plug-in >> Camera Raw
You should see a pop up with the version number.
Press Esc to close.
Help >> Check for updates
to install the latest patch.
