What problem?
You will have to be _a lot_ more specific if you'd like responsible feedback.
I export thousands of TIFF and JPG files a week with no obvious faults.

When importing photos with the iBooks Author Gallery widget, is anyone aware of a technique for simultaneously importing the photo's description (or jpeg file name) and writing it into the iBook Author caption field for the corresponding imported photo? I have 4,800 stills to import and can't imagine it's necessary to copy and paste the description for each.

As always, feel free to use the 'Provide iBooks Author Feedback' menu item for features you'd like added in the future, etc.

  • Blank spaces in HTML where tiff or jpeg files should be?

Robohelp 7 (new user) and Framemaker 8.0p277.
I have a Framemaker book file that I would like to convert to HTML using Robohelp. I have right-clicked on Project Files > Add Framemaker File > Add by Reference. I selected the Framemaker book file and it seems to open in Robohelp no problem. However, I have a lot of graphics (mostly screenshots) in either tiff or jpeg format in anchored frames that, in Framemaker are imported by reference from an Images folder. In Robohelp there are spaces in the document where the screenshots should be, but I'm not sure how to get them to display. When I check the Mapping Styles dialog, there is no reference to the anchored frames or graphics. I have searched the forum and Robohelp's Help, but could not find reference to my specific issue. Any tips on what I need to do or what I may have done incorrectly would be much appreciated.

As per my response on a somewhat similar thread (reporting poor graphics, as opposed to no graphics), I found that adding my FM book files individually to my RH project has made a difference and my screenshots now appear.

When I change my TIFFs to jpegs, the color and tone are changing as well, any ideas as to what the problem could be?

You are screwing up the colors by not using color management or at least not keeping an eye what color space/ profiel your source files use anbd what happens when Safe for Web converts them. As a start, perhaps refer to this, then work your way through the Internet wide and far to learn about color management:

I have upgraded Apple Aperture from version 2 to version 3 and I'm having a problem with the "Highlights and Shadows" adjustment. According to the user's manual, I should have access to an advanced disclosure triangle which would allow me to adjust mid contrast, colour, radius, high tonal width and low tonal width.
If anyone has any suggestions as to how to access this advanced section, I'd be most grateful.

    Hi David-
The advanced adjustments in the Highlights & Shadows tool were combined into the "Mid Contrast" slider in Aperture 3.3 and later. If you have any images in your library that were processed in a version of Aperture before 3.3, there will be an Upgrade button in the Highlights & Shadows tool in the upper right, and the controls you asked about under the Advanced section. Clicking the Upgrade button will re-render the photo using the new version of Highlights & Shadows, and the Advanced section will be replaced with the new Mid Contrast slider. With the new version from 3.3 you probably don't need the Advanced slider, but if you want to use the older version you can download it from this page:

  • Highlight and Shadow Recovery in Aperture?

    Hey folks,
I am still pretty new at using Aperture 3, but I was very curious to know if it has a similar feature as Lightroom 4 does with its highlight and shadow recovery feature. I am really impressed with how this works in Lightroom 4 and would be curious to see if this would work in Aperture. Thanks!

Andy, you owe us an advanced tutorial on shadow recovery.
I find it interesting that 3.5's "Auto Fix" always seems to include a healthy dose of shadow lift.
LOL. I haven't forgotten Frederick, honest. But a few things have been happening that put it down the priority list.
And, I've become increasingly frustrated at the way things are being run over at DPR, in particular the way the so called moderators in some of the forums are deleting content, not only for alleged rule breaches but based on their personal opinions and friendships it seems. Complaints either go unanswered, or given the generic 'moderators actions can't be discussed'. Gee - 'Can't be discussed', hardly surprising some of them feel they have the power to do what they like! If it can't be discussed, my only real power is to take my clicks and content somewhere else.
So I'm in two minds if I want to publish it on DPR or just leave it until my new site is ready.
But it's actually a partially related subject that has really side-tracked me. I've beed in touch with the developer of the old Enfuse Edit Plug-in for Aperture to find out if there were any plans to make it compatible with Aperture 3.
He explained he doesn't have the resources to work on it at the moment, so I offered to take the Plug-In and make it compatible.
I've now done that and have it working on my system, and I'm just putting the finishing touches to an installation script to work around some gatekeeper/quarantine issues. The first version is going to be a little rough as it's essentially just a recompile of the old beta, with a couple of inelegant work arounds for the issues encountered. If there's any interest in it, I'll start finessing it a little.
If you're unfamiliar with Enfuse, it's a command line program that takes multiple images with different exposures a blends them together using the best exposure from each (base on some settings).
enfuseEdit is an Edit plug-in for Aperture where you can select the images to be blended and have the result returned directly to Aperture.
Here's a small example I made with the plugin:
The two exposures (actually 2 versions of the same raw with different exposure adjustments):
    And the 'enfused' output:

Strange that your dealer could not help.
When my car was in for its 6 month service in July/August I mentioned this problem to the dealer service dept  (Northway Honda, Bundoora, Vic)
The person booking the car in told me an update to the software was needed and that they would do the update.
I don't know if it was free as there was no specific listing of a software update on the invoice - just a lot of item numbers.
    All has been well since

Hi Terence, When I am uploading photos from a memory card, not all of the photos show up on I photo as a photo image, but show up as a dotted square line. For example, I just added 12 photo from two days. The first day had 5 photos, but only 4 show up as images, then there is 1 as dotted  a square. The next day, there 7 images, with only 4 showing up as photos, and three as the dotted squares.
    I am using I photo 11, 9.1.1.

  • Aperture Crashes Exporting Photos

I regularly convert batches of photos from Aperture to jpeg (for posting on an Internet site). However, this routinely causes Aperture to crash. Sometimes I even get the frozen computer with the turn the computer off message (forget the exact verbiage - it's in multiple languages though). If I limit the batches to about thirty photos each, it seems to help minimize the crashes. However usually starting around the third batch, the system will inevitably crash.
Was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this crash problem? Is there some buffer that's not being cleared? Also and most importantly is there a better workaround? I'm usually exporting .psd files that I've edited in Photoshop (previously CS2, now CS3). I'm creating these jpeg batches weekly and the repeated crashes are getting very old...
    Apreciate any suggestions!

    Ian:
Thought I'd take your advice and run a new hardware test. Unfortunately, we recently moved and I can't find my original disks that came with the G5 (new 27 months ago) - they're in a box somewhere. Haven't had much luck on this site locating a version of Apple's Hardware Test that I can download. Also, hasn't the this test been updated since 2005? Should I use a more recent version (since I'm running Tiger instead of the version of OS X that came with the G5)?
Interested in any advice you may have on obtaining an appropriate copy of Apple's Hardware Test.
    Thanks

  • Lightroom won't open TIFF or JPEG files to CS5

Recently upgraded to a new iMac. This morning when I tried to open a TIFF file from Lightroom 3.4.1 into Photoshop CS5 I got a message saying: Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at /Volumes/Drobo1/Photos/2011/02-14-2011 Yellowstone/Yellowstone-0641-Edit.tif for editing.
    It will not be opened.
The only way Lightroom will open a TIFF or JPEG image to CS5 is if I tell it to open a copy of the image with Lightroom Adjustments. If I say I want to edit the original or a copy, it won't do it.
If I go into CS5 and open the TIFF there, it works fine, so the problem doesn't seem to be with CS5.
Lightroom WILL open RAW files into CS5 without any error message.
I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8, which was upgraded yesterday and am wondering if that's the problem since I could open TIFFs on the new computer before.
    Phil

Do you have full permissions to the DROBO folder the files are in?  I'm a Windows person so I can't tell you how to check this, but upgrading a OS and then things not working might be related to permissions where the files were created with a profile on the previous OS.

  • Aperture not showing (just black) newly imported JPEG files

RE: Aperture not showing newly imported JPEG files.
In fact its just black instead of the actual image. (see attached screen shot)
When double clicking on this - i.e. to go to the edit mode, the image then appears.
If I return to the viewing screen without changing anything to that image it remains black.
If I make any kind of change to the image, the image will appear when returning to the viewing screen.
Aperture seems only to have started behaving like this after update to OS X  10.10 (Yosemite)
I have the latest Aperture 3.6
Latest Digital Camera Raw 6.00 Build 761.5 and Digital Camera Raw Support 6000 Build 131.1
RAW files (taken with same camera) are displayed without any issues.
JPEG image files have been taken with a Sony RX100
JPEG image files taken with the same device imported into Aperture before OSX update to 10.10 have appear to have no issues
I cannot say if JPEG files taken with a different device have similar issues.
All files have been been reprocessed to latest edition of aperture
I have had other issues of other types of files (i.e. TIFF output  files 'unsupported image format' behaving oddly including inconsistent behaviour after having been processed by 3rd party aperture plug-in's -  although this has now largely been solved.
I remember having similar issues of files behaving strangely in Aperture after last update to OS X (Mavericks) - forget how this was solved -  but I'm pretty sure it was not an issue involving JPEGS
    Many thanks

...this sounds very similar to the problem I had on a previous aperture update and I had a similar issue  -  to that - with the .tiff files output from RAW files and an HDR plug-in.
In the first instance, I cannot remember for sure, but maybe it was something to do with not having the latest RAW File update for Aperture specific to that latest Aperture Update and specific to a Sony RX100 (or it could have been a Nikon d700).
I found the RAW file update  -  I'm not sure it was being made available from the App Store -  and everything was fine.
With the more recent issue, I'm pretty sure this was resolved by updating to the latest Photomatix HDR plug-in.
So I'm just stuck on the issue with the JPEGs now.

  • I am scanning printed photos into iPhoto as jpeg files but they are not showing as jpegs and I can't move them to another document - any ideas??

Ultimately, I am using these photos in a document I am writing and for some reason, some of the photos I have scanned in to iPhoto are not showing as jpeg files . . . the file type is blank and when I try to move them, I get a circle with a slash through it indicating NO instead of the green circle with a + indicating that the photo can be moved and dropped elsewhere.  I am using an Epson scanner and am scanning as jpeg images.  I also have an option to scan as a jpeg2000 image but am not sure of the difference in the files so continue to scan as just jpeg.  Does anybody have an idea as to  why these particular files are scanning in as jpegs but apparently there is something not registering correctly.  Could it be that they were scanned without doing an overview scan first?  I know it can't be that simple . . any help would be appreciated.

What scanner format settings dis you use?  Are these color photos? If they are B/W did you scan as grayscale images?  That could be the problem.
Are you able to open them with Preview?  If so do a Save As, select full quality and save as a jpeg with a new file name.  See if that file will import and work as intended.

  • TS3276 why is jpeg file lost and replaced with winmail.dat file in mail

I sent a jpeg file to my hotmail account, which is synchronised in my Mac Mail but the file was lost/converted to winmail.dat attachment, which I couldn't import to iPhoto. How do I import a jpeg image, emailed to me from an external source, to iPhoto?

I think you need to configure Outlook in Windows to use HTML messages.
Here is Microsoft's incomprehensible support document on the issue.
Here is one from about.com that makes sense.
