Aperture to iPhone to Aperture

I've recently been seduced by a number of filter apps on the iPhone and would like to integrate them into my photo workflow.
I manage photos in Aperture 3.
My ideal workflow:
1: Export/send/sync a version to the iPhone
2: Edit it in an app
3: Reimport it into Aperture such that it somehow relates to the original - by filename, date etc.
My best solution at the moment is prone to chaos:
1: Sync an Aperture album with iTunes
2: Edit photo in an app and save to Camera Roll
3: Reimport into Aperture with new, totally unrelated filename/date
4: Manually find original photo and add both to a stack
Is there a better way?
Ben

This is my Workflow! :-)
PhotoSync on both iPhone and Desktop
EXIF Renamer on Desktop
On the iPhone in Photos I create Albums that depict the progress of my Workflow
1) Originals
2) Picks
3) Processed
4) Final
Everything I shoot for Personal work gets put into 1) Origanal from the CameraRoll
I make my Picks and move them into the 2) Picks Album, deleting from the 1) Origanal Album
From 2) Picks we tweak them in FilterStorm where they are saved in the CameraRoll
From CameraRoll we move the Final image into the 4) Final Album
Then we move the image from 2) Picks to 3) Processed and delete it from the 2) Picks Album
From there we use PhotoSync to Export the compleate Album to the Desktop over WiFi
PhotoSync recognizes the Albums that you create in CameraRoll!
Once the images are on the Desktop we Label each folder an appropriate color
Move them all into one Folder
Than rename them to the EXIF date and time (using EXIF Renamer)
Import into Apeture
select all the recently Imported images and use Auto Stack to group the Origanals with the Tweaked Final Images
Done! :-)

  • Can not sync all photos in Aperture into Iphone 5

I can not sync all photos in Aperture into Iphone 5. It always can sync some photos into 5. Then finish and prompts: "itunes can not synchronize (other)thousands of projects, and see more information in itunes".  That means most of my photos can not seen on Iphone 5, it seems just can't import to 5. Is that the problem of Iphone or the pictures in Aperture, or even just because lack of sufficient space?

    Solved here...
Photos app not syncing with iTunes

  • IPhone - how to sync with iPhoto and Aperture at the same time ???

I'm having a really hard time with syncing my photos - I'm using iPhoto and Aperture on my Mac. When I launch iTunes and start managing my iPhone, it seems like I should be able to sync photos from a variety of sources all at once (iPhoto, Aperture, other folders).
However, whichever option I select in the photos drop-down becomes the only libraries that are available to sync. What I mean is that if I select some of the Albums in my iPhoto list and sync those, when I later drill down to Aperture and select albums from there and perform a sync - then the previously synced/loaded albums and photos from iPhoto are automatically removed from the iPhone.
Why can't I sync between multiple photo albums / sources at the same time? This is incredibly annoying.

Here's how I solved this problem:
In Aperture, select File -> Import -> iPhoto Library
Then under the "Store Files" dropdown, be sure "In their Original Location" is select. This will allow Aperture to see your iPhoto library, but it will be managed by reference rather than phyisically imported.
Now, in iTunes, select Aperture as the application from which you want to synch photos, and select the option to synch specific albums.
You should be able to see the names of albums in iPhoto as well as those created in Aperture.

  • Selected videos won't sync from Aperture through iTunes to my iPhone 5s

I don't know if this is an iPhone issue, an Aperture issue, or an iTunes issue . . .
I'm using Aperture, on my iMac, and have created albums that contain videos (as well as photos). Some videos are iPhone-created that I imported from my iPhone into Aperture (since iCloud/Photostream does not automatically cloud videos); some videos were created by me in a separate program (iMovie or FCPX) and then down-mixed to put into my Aperture album. I'm trying to sync my Aperture album (not Event, but Album) to my iPhone 5s so that I have an album on my iPhone directly mimicking my Aperture album.
The pictures come over perfectly, sorted by date as they are in Aperture. However, the videos have issues. Most importantly, only the ones originally created by my iPhone come back across to my phone, and in the correct album. Anything that I've created (Final Cut Pro X or iMovie) are not coming through (down-mixed as .mov files).
I do have the "include videos" box checked in iTunes; that only serves to bring over the iPhone-created movies, some of which it dropped into the synced album, some of which it decided to put into my videos album.
Anyone out there have any ideas what I could be doing differently? I'd like all my videos in my Aperture album to come across to my iPhone in the same album.
Second smaller issue is that movies I made on my iPhone 5s in slo-mo, though they imported to Aperture in slo-mo, are syncing back to my iPhone 5s in real time, not slo-mo.
    Aperture: 3.5.1
    iPhone: 5s, 8.0.2
    iMac: 10.9.5
    iTunes:  11.4(18)

As a follow-up, I down mixed the video in FCPX using "Apple Devices" 720p. That did not help.

  • Aperture not syncing with iPhone, iLife, iTunes, etc

The problem: Aperture isn't syncing.  I thought this was an iPhone problem, but apparently, it's a system wide thing.  Let me explain:
I'm running Aperture 3.2, but I've had this problem for a while now - probably since upgrading to Lion.
In Aperture, I have a smart album that contains any photo I've rated five stars.  Currently, there are 180 photos in it.  In iTunes, I've selected to sync certain things from Aperture to my iPhone.  If I click on that 5 Star smart album, it only shows that there are 21 photos.  Huh?  So, as a test, I opened iPhoto (which I never use).  In the File menu, I clicked "Show Aperture Library" and I selected my 5 Star smart album.  Sure enough, iPhoto only sees 21 photos in there.  But if I click over to Aperture, I see that smart album contains 180 images.
    What's going on here?
I should also note that a search of the forums here at Apple support show lots of people have been having similar problems, but most only notice they're missing photos when they sync their iPhone.  Clearly, the problem is deeper than that.  Aperture sees 180 photos in my 5 Star smart album.  iTunes, iPhoto and my iPhone are only able to sync 21 of them?
And how weird is this?  In Aperture, I have a smart album of shots that were taken with my iPhone and rated 3 stars or higher.  There are 115 shots in that smart album.  iTunes and iPhoto only see 38.
Somewhere, for whatever reason, Aperture is telling the rest of the system that it has far fewer images than it does.  How do I figure out where the problem is and how do I fix it?

    Thanks to Jalpuna
Your workaround worked for me to until I started to use Aperture to adjust photos in several projects in Aperture. After that, Photos were missing again on my iOS devices etc., and I couldn't imagine the process on making new previews for all my 25.000 photos once again. My old MBP is just too slow.
I had to see if I could find a workaround to work with only the adjusted photos which looked as the ones missing after syncing to the iOS devices (or at least just the project in which the adjusted photos are).
This example works for me for the time being:
Usually a project (let's call it "XYZ") with newly imported photos have the same number of photos in Aperture and in the event with the same name XYZ on an iOS device.
If not all photos sync between Aperture and iOS (usually after adjusting photos in Aperture), I use this process, which I found out to use after adjusting several photos:
When I adjust a photo I let Aperture automatically make the adjustments in a new version and let the versions stay in a stack.
I make sure to change the rating for all the other photos in the stack to x (9) (i.e. except the version I want on my iOS devices - yes only one and the same versions goes to all the iOS devices, I sync via iTunes).
After rating be sure to use the pick function on the version you want on your device (the version rated higher than x (9) - which means that the wanted version "goes to the top of the stack".
Now view "unrated or better" (which means your x (9) rated photos won't show)
The process from here seems to work also if by any other reason photos won't show up on the iOS device.
Choose a project, all the photos in a project or just the photos missing in iOS, and delete the previews
Then generate thumbnails - this could take some time and for sure it takes time. At least if you need to do it with thousands of photos.
Close Aperture when all the new thumbnails and previews are generated.
Open iTunes and sync your iOS device. I think it works best (fastest) with the cable, but I think it should work via WiFi-sync too.
It is **** of a workaround, but it is the only way I can get all the right photos on my iOS devices after adjusting photos in Aperture.
The next coming up must be how to manage to sync back to Aperture the photos adjusted in iPhoto on the iOs devices:-)
Note: Any adjustments made to a version seems not to be deleted when deleting previews, but is kept and put back on a new generated preview.

  • Aperture 3.5 issue syncing to iPad  & iPhone vs. Apple TV

Hi.  Longtime user of Aperture, since v 1.5, and iOS, since the very first iPhone.  I'm currently on the latest versions of all software, for Aperture, Mavericks, iOS and AppleTV.
I have several hundred projects and several hundred smart albums in my Aperture library, and I've always enjoyed being abe to display my photography by syncing to my iPhone, my iPad and AppleTV.   I have never found the iPhone and iPad syncing to work to my satisfaction, but ultimately I've been able to get it to pretty much work.  I'm now struggling with an issue that I cannot resolve.
Everything syncs fine with Apple TV.
However, when syncing via iTunes to both my iPhone 5 and my iPad 2, I get all sorts of issues - in that many pictures simply don't sync.  For instance, I have a smart album called "Favorites - People" - but only 125 of 162 pictures in the Aperture smart album appears in the iPad album.  For my "Favorites  - Great Outdoors" smart album, only 42 of 53 appear in the iPad.  I'm having these kinds of problems in many, many of my smart albums.
I've done the following to try to resolve the problem:
    -rebuild Aperture library
    -repair Aperture library
    -update all Previews
    -delete iPod Photo Cache
-completely restore iPad and iPhone to factory settings and start again.
    No luck.  Any suggestions?

Don't have any solutions to offer, but I sympathize, because I have had that occur in the past.  A few images simply refused to sync from Smart Albums, for reasons which completely eluded me.  Very frustrating!
The problem seemed to have resolved itself, but I always suspected the problem was mainly with the system-wide media browser (whatever it's called).

  • ITunes can't see Aperture album photos to sync with iPhone??

I had to export my Aperture library to downgrade from version 3.2 to 3.1.3 due to all the bugs in 3.2.  Since that time, though there are photos in my albums that I can see, edit, etc these pics are not showing up on the Photos screen of the Sync prefs when my iPhone 4 is plugged in.  The albums themselves all show up when I select to sync with Aperture but it shows "0" photos in every album despite the fact that all the albums have photos in them.  I have repaired permissions on Aperture library, on the computer, upgraded to iTunes 10.5, restarted the computer.  I'm guessing there was a preference file that might have linked the old Aperture library (no longer in the "Pictures" folder) to iTunes photo syncing with iPhone.  New Aperture Library has same name and location as the old one but iTunes just isn't seeing these photos.  Any suggestions on fixing?

I made a duplicate copy of a picture and did some editing of it.  I added sepia tone, etc.  When I go to Shutterfly to upload the edited picture, I can't find it.  I see the original, but not the edited duplicate.  I shut down the computer last night and let it update and checked it again this morning, but still can't find the edited picture.  I know it is "in there" somewhere, because when I open Aperture 3, I can see the edited pic.  Any thoughts?  Thank you.

  • Aperture will no longer sync with itunes! Iphone 4, Itunes 10, iOS 4.1

This is very odd and bothersome.
I have some 13K photos in Aperture 3, and have been successfully syncing a small subset of those with my iphone 4 via itunes 10. No problems mostly so far.
Today I added a few photos to aperture, and then synced my iphone so the new pictures would be on it. However, now I have NO photos on my iphone - none at all! And itunes is telling me that there are no photos in aperture - I can't even select the "selected projects, albums, faces...." button. Aperture seems fine - no discernable problems.
I've tried resetting the sync history in isync - no change. I've tried deleting the ipod photo cache inside the aperture photo library, no change. I CAN successfully sync with iphoto, but the pictures in there are all fairly old, and I don't want to do that. I understand there are work arounds for this, but don't want that approach - I want it to work the way it's supposed to!
    Any ideas?

You are correct sir - as the isync fix didn't work. The fact that it used to work and stopped helped lead to the correct answer - somehow my aperture database got corrupted. I found this answer on the MacRumors forum, posted by MacBimmer -
1 - Open iTunes and turn off the synch for pictures with iPhone attached. This should remove photos from iPhone.
2 - Unmount iPhone and quit iTunes
3 - Open Aperture while holding down the Option and Command Keys. This will offer you the opportunity to rebuild the photo library database. Do so.
4 - After database is rebuilt and Aperture opens, close it down.
5 - Open Finder and locate Aperture Library.
6 - Right click on Aperture Library and click on Show Package Contents
7 - Drag the iPod Photo Cache out of Aperture to Desktop
8 - Resynch iPhone with iTunes. When complete, click on Photos tab and reinstall photos
That's it. The iPod Photo Cache on desktop can be deleted as it's now rebuilt and back in it's correct place inside Aperture.
note - I actually chose the repair database option in aperture - it was the default choice. It worked.

  • Help! I can no longer import photos from iPhoto to Aperture 3 or iPhone

Please help, I have a fully updated Aperture 3, iTunes 9 and iPhone 3G. I arrange my pic's in events in iPhoto and they are all accessible there, at my last iphone sync I noticed that my phone was deleting all my pictures of my iPhone, so I stopped the sync prematurely. Now when I try and import photo's, the event is listed but it states there are no pictures there.
The only thing I can think that I did is "consolidate masters for library" in aperture. I kept photo's "in there current location". Is there anyway to reverse this so I can put my photo's back on my phone??
    Thanks!!

I'm not sure about reversing the process you've described, but you can set up the equivalent structure (make albums in place of your iPhoto events) and use iTunes to synch your iPhone to Aperture instead of iPhoto. If you've decided to do your main work in Aperture this would perhaps be the best way forward.

  • IPhone Photo Sync No Longer Works Since Upgrading to Aperture 3

I updated Aperture to 3 and now for some reason I am unable to sync my albums with neither my iPhone or my AppleTv. I get a, "your iphone can not be synced. An unknown error has occurred (-50)".
I used to be able to pick and choose which projects and albums would sync to both of these devices, it is no longer giving me that option. The two choices when you choose aperture in the iTunes drop down are "All Photos and Albums" or "Selected Albums" however "Selected Albums" is greyed out.
    What is going on?

I too have problems syncing with my iPhone since updating to Aperture 3 and subsequently 3.0.1. The problem clearly is with Aperture as I cannot access the Aperture library from iPhoto either. The ability to select individual projects or albums is greyed out and a full sync of the entire library results in an error -50.in iTunes. I have lodged 2 bug reports from both iTunes and Aperture but no word from Apple. *+Come on Apple.+* this make Aperture look really bad. I have resorted to syncing from iPhoto, a real step backwards but as Apple don't think it important enough to respond to their customers what recourse is left. I know! a well placed email to the media alerting them to the fact that Apples new version of Aperture is flawed.

  • IPhone with iOS 5 not recognized by Aperture Import

I upgraded to iOS 5 on my iPhone and when I upgraded to Aperture 3.2 (on OSX 10.7.2) Aperture no longer recognizes my iPhone as an import device. It recognizes that something was attached that had photos for uploading on it, but no device shows up.

This is a solution that worked for me that I posted in another thread.
Similar situation: none of Aperture, Image Capture nor iPhoto recognised my iPhone 4 (iOS 5) as a device to import pictures from.
    My solution
    1.  My setting for "When a camera is connected open..." was "No Application."  I changed this to "Image Capture" (as it is the fastest to open).
    2. I unplugged and then reconnected my iPhone.
    3. Image Capture then automatically launched, with my iPhone and all of its pictures ready for import.  The same occurred for Aperture and iPhoto (which I was just using to test).
I have now unplugged and reconnected my iPhone a number of times and have been able to import photos every time, using either Image Capture or Aperture.
    Hope that helps!

  • HT202020 Why are certain videos that I have taken with my iPhone 4 not supported by Aperture.

Why are certain videos that I have taken with my iPhone not supported by Aperture?  That's weird.  I expect that since both iPhone and Aperture are Apple products, file support should be seamless between the two.
Also, iPhone 4 does not appear as Camera Model in the metadata of the unsupported video file in Aperture .  But other videos I have taken with the same iPhone 4 appear in Aperture and the Camera Model appears correctly.  Why is that?

Have you done some cleaning and cleared caches on your Mac? Maybe the  com.apple.xpchelper.cache file is missing. Check the folder /System/Library/Caches/
Re: Import video to Aperture library on Mountain Lion https://discussions.apple.com/message/19304702#19304702
If this file should be missing, you need to restore it from a backup or reinstall it by reinstalling your system.

  • Aperture adjustments don't sync to iphone or ipad

Any adjustments - color, crop, etc - made to previously synced albums or projects don't update on the iPhone or iPad. Why would iTunes intentionally sync just the master and never versions, especially while not making it an option? When streamed, like to Apple TV, iTunes sends the latest version.
All software on all devices is the most current version/update.
This issue has been discussed previously, the latest I could find is here:
Why aren't Aperture edits reflected on the iPad?
I've tried all the suggestions around updating previews, etc with no success. Deleting the iPod cache each time is kinda silly. Any thoughts or suggestions would be very helpful! I find this to be a very frustrating little feature that Apple has thrown in
I think I'll try syncing with iPhoto, as it's a shared library now. Perhaps that will solve (kind of) the problem.
    Thanks
    Peter

    Hey Canyonlight,
If you have iTunes Match then iTunes does not sync with your iOS devices. All syncing is done directly to iTunes Match, which does not see your playlists. See this article for an explanation -

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Be well,

  • I can not see Aperture in the media brower of iMovie and idvd since I have upgraded my iphone 5

I have Aperture 3.4.2 (most updated version I could find).  Now when I look to make a movie or dvd with my photos.  I can not find any of my recent photos in imovie or idvd via their respective media browsers.  Aperture and iphoto are both working fine and great (ie: I can adjust my photos accordingly and print them out).  I was able to successfully make both an imovie and then burn it on idvd (added photos to the idvd screens via media browers too), last week.
The only thing I can think that is different with my computer is that I upgraded my iphone from iphone4 to iphone5.
This is what I have looked into already:
Aperture>Preferences>Preview is set to share and set to always>photo preview set to Don't limit    (no change)
Tried alt+cmd when opening Aperture and reset Aperture (as well with iphoto).  (no change)
Itunes>Advanced>choose photos to share> then a window pops up stating Aperture could not be found open Preferences in Aperture (My first step already proved that it should be fine)
My question is why all of a sudden is Aperture and most of my iphone photos not showing up in imovie or idvd all of a sudden?  Does the recent Iphone5 updgrade have anything to do with it?
Any help would be great since I have been looking all over the web for an answer with no success.
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • When I try to import photos from my camera roll on iPhone, I can't see them in the import on Aperture

I'm using Aperture(3.5.1) on my iMac(10.9.4). I've connected the IOS device(5S) to the computer, opened Aperture and tried to import from the camera roll on my iPhone. Photos that I see in the camera roll don't show up in the Aperture import window, though I can see them in the camera roll on the phone. In fact, since aug. 23, 2014, none of my iPhone photos show up in the import window.
I've shut down my iPhone and my iMac and restarted both, but no change.
I'm aware Aperture is going away soon. I'd like to get these photos off my phone and into Aperture so when the big merge comes, I won't be missing anything.

Could the photos already have been imported to Aperture using Photo Stream? The Import window will not show them, if the option "Do not import Duplicates" is active and the photos are already in the library.
Check any Import option in the Import settings, that might be excluding photos from importing.

  • Aperture to iPhone sync not working correctly

When sync'ing photo's from Aperture to my iPhone 6+ , I have filters that work perfectly in Aperture, but I still end up with photo's I shouldn't have (should have been filtered out) sent to my iPhone.
    is this a known bug?
    How do I fix this?
    Thanks,

Ignore what Apple have said about my iPhone. it's a 6+ with iOS8.
