Aperture upgrade

I am thinking about getting Aperture 3 but wondering if Aperture 4 comes out does that mean Aperture 3 is useless or does it just get upgraded. I dont want to spend $100 or so if I have to buy a whole new one and have to get rid of the old
regards
Rainer

First off the price for Aperture is $79 not $100.
Second only Apple can say when or even if there will be an Aperture 4.
Finally if the past is any indication then all Aperture 3 users will have to pay to purchase Aperture 4. Updates are free (going from 3.5 to 3.5.2 for example) but upgrades (going from Aperture 2 to Aperture 3 ) are  not.
If an Aperture 4 came out it wouldn;t mean that Aperture 3 would become useless overnight but it would mean that all future upgrades to the program would only apply to 4.
Basally if you need the program then buy it, trying to guess what will happen in a month or a year  is a losing proposition.

  • Aperture upgrade failed 3.3.2

Hi I tried to upgrade Aperture 3.3.2 after instaling Mountain Lion and the progress bar stops at approx 96% and will not complete.  Anyone have any proven fixes for this issue?  It is preventing other update installs until the Aperture upgrade is completed.
    Thanks

The update was to support compatability issues with Mountain Lion.  Anyone know how I can cancel the update and start again?

  • Aperture Upgrade Issues (since Snow Leopard Install)

I upgraded the OS on my 2007 iMAC7,1 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz to Snow Leopard a couple of months ago. Afterwards, when I tried to start Aperture, I got a message that my version of Aperture (1.5.6) was not supported under the new OS.
So today, I went to the Apple store and bought an upgrade to Aperture 2. The upgrade version is 2.1.1. I installed this and when I start Aperture, the app appears to start, the "intro" white screen comes up with the version / serial number, etc, and then the Welcome Screen starts up.
No matter what I choose from the Welcome Screen (Usually I pick Start Using Aperture), the SW appears to be stuck. The welcome screen disappears as expected, and the command bar across the top of the screen appears, but that's it - the normal aperture screen that shows your projects, etc. never comes up. Most of the commands in the sub-menus on the command bar are grayed out.
To make matters worse, when I try to quit, nothing happens. No message, no nothing, it just sits there. I have to do the Option-Cmd-Esc sequence and kill Aperture.
I checked for SW update and updated everything that was available (OS and Aperture to 2.1.4), rebooted, etc. However, there was no change in behavior.
Everything else on this machine works fine, no other issues or even behavior changes in my machine. The only problem is with Aperture.
To summarize: Aperture 1.5.6 quit working after I installed Snow Leopard. I bought the Aperture upgrade and installed, which allows me to start Aperture but doesn't let me do anything further.
Has anyone else seen an issue like this? Any suggestions for what may be wrong?
    Thanks.

You may want to try rebuilding the library or doing a consistency check. Hold command-option when you launch Aperture and choose the relevant options.
Note that Aperture 2.x will have to upgrade the library from 1.x to run. You should get a dialog box to kick this off (and it does take some time), but it sounds like you haven't even gotten that far.
You do need to be running Aperture 2.1.4 on Snow Leopard, but from your description it sounds like you're already on that version.

  • I have my aperture upgrade by not my original serial number

I have my aperture upgrade but not my original serial number.
    any ideas?

You need to contact Apple with a proof of purchase:
    See this document:

  • Aperture upgrade won't open with serial number

I have a retail license for aperture version 2.1 with the serial numbers on the jacket for the cd. Several times after upgrades the new version will ask for my name and serial number. The latest upgrade to 3.4.5 tells me that my serial number is invalid. Any suggestions?

Thank you so much for your reply but I want to apologize for wasting your time with this question. I was making a "rookie" mistake by using my cd jacket information from version 2.1. After reading your reply I looked further into my cd's and found the version 3.0 cd with the info I needed on the jacket. The correct serial number works fine with the upgrade.

  • Updating from 10.7.5 to Yosemite, need Aperture upgrade

I would like to update to Yosemite, but I see that Aperture 3.4.5  will not run on Yosemite.
I just checked and there are no SW updates for my machine.  Do I have to update to Yosemite first, then hope that I can update to
the latest level of Aperture?  (I've seen other threads where people have problems updating Aperture)
If I go into the App store, Aperture is not listed as a purchase, nor does it have an available update.
I would prefer to update to the latest level of Aperture before installing Yosemite to make sure it works, but I'm not sure how to get that upgrade?
    OS 10.7.5
    Aperture 3.4.5
iMAC 3.4GHz Intel Core i7, 24 GB memory

I pleaded w/ them give me the upgrade to 3.6 - they said Apple is not doing that for anyone.  So if I want to continue to be able to access my photos in Aperture after I update to their latest OS, I have to pay the $79.
For many of has the update from iPhoto 3.4.5 to 3.5.1 automatic, even for Aperture 3 versions, that have been bought on disks.  The update from aperture 3.4.5 to Aperture 3.6 is a minor compatibility Update and not a major new release. It should be free.
Apple sent redeem codes for Aperture 3.6 to several users who had bought the version on disks, if they could provide a serial number.  See for example this discussion: (The post marked as the solution) Re: Aperture update not possible after update to Yosemite
It is really unfortunate you missed the window of opportunity with Mavericks MacOS X 10.9.5.
Check, if Aperture is showing on the Purchases tab of the App Store, when you sign in with your AppleID. If there is an "Accept" button, accept it.

  • Failure with Aperture Upgrade form 3.2.2 to 3,2,4

I need to upgrade Aperture 3.2.2 on a MacBook Pro (OSX 10.7.4) in order to share Aperture libraries with an iMac (OSX 10.6.8).
The Download of 3.2.4 on the MacBook was long, but without any problems. However, when unpacking, a message is poping up, telling that this update must be done by Mac App Store und notihing is working any more.
Is Aperture 3.2.4 not compatible with OSX 10.7.4 ?
When looking for for help, there is mostly Aperture Version 3.3 shown (= very anoying), which is not compatible with my iMac. For several reasons I will not yet upgrage my iMac to OSX 10.7... but use the MacBook when travelling.
    Who can help?
    Thanks so much,
    Felix

    Thanks a lot Ernie
At least, I must no  longer feel a "dump"..... Thus, there is no way to bring Aperture 3.2.4 on my MacBook (OSX 10.7.4) ?

  • Aperture upgrade under Mountain Lion

Hello, just moved from Leopart to Mountain Lion but cannot upgrade my aperture to latest version (current being 3.2.4.). I downloaded the file but when trying to install requests a version post 3 which I have. Any idea on how I should proceed ?
    Thanks in advance

When you are looking at the Aperture Applicaion in the Filder you should not be able to see subfolders, only the Applications icon - it should look like this - how did you move your Aperture application? Did you not use the FInder? The plug-ins folder inside the Aperture package should be a subfolder of "Contents", not directly of Aperture. Or are you looking at the Applications Support folder in the system  library, not at the Aperture application in the Applications folder?

  • IPhoto to Aperture upgrade failure

Hello, I have upgraded to the latest iPhoto 9.3 in order to upgrade the picture library to work with Aperture, but the upgrade of the picture library stops at step 5 of 9 at 96%. I have tried a several times and in safe mode as well. Any tips?
At the moment I can´t use the pictures at all, beacuse the library looks like an Aperture library, but needs an upgrade by starting iPhoto.
Can I remove iPhoto and install it again without remove the existing picture library?
    Thank´s
    Magnus

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    If that fails:
Restore from your back up. Repair the Library (as above) and then upgrade again.

  • Am I better off with Snowleopard then Marvicks? Would like Aperture upgrade but is it worth it?

Have been hanging on to Snowleopard but I am wondering is Mavericks worth it? I realized I am missing out on upgrades to Aperture etc. My Mac will run Mavericks as I have it on a seperate drive but can not run the software on my main drive. I do love Snowleopard's stability? Any thoughts?

Thanks mate but it doesnt, answer the question about performance.
In terms of screen real estate, I don't care much for it as I usually work relatively close to the pixel sizes and I generally work in very dum conditions so the antiglare is something I also dont care for.  If mac offered a Matt finish screen again it would be a dream lol.
Retina though sweet is really just a gimmick, stare at one screen, starred at them all, so I'm fine with the regular MBP.
    And size does matter.

When I try to edit my NEF File with an external editor eg. NikSoftware, Aperture show me this msg: Unsupported file format
the editor doesn't start; in aperture i can't see the preview of that file.
I tried to restart, but s.times ok others no.
    why?
    tks

Have you two tried with the latest Nik Software update? You might need to update preview or reprocess the image after upgrade.

  • Aperture Upgrade Path from 1.1

I have an old copy of Aperture 1.1 which I really didn't like and stopped using. Maybe I finally learned enough to appreciate it? I did a demo of 2.0 and between it getting better and my learning curve I would like to upgrade to 2.0. What are my upgrade options???

buy an upgrade for 99 dollars..
unless the Ap1.1 that you have is an academic version, then you will need to buy the 149 dollars upgrade, or the full academic version of Ap2.0
or you can buy the full version of Ap2.0... for 199 dollars... but thats not very smart.

  • IPhoto 9.4.1 and Aperture upgrade results in spinning gear that does not stop.

After installing the most recent bundled upgrade for iPhoto and Aperture and responding "continue" to the question I have a spinning gear which has been spinning for more than ten (yes ten) hours.
I have successfully closed both programs but wonder how to proceeed.  I am running Mountain Lion including the most recent update last week.  My photo library is on an external hard drive due to its size.  My guess is because because I have updated both iPhoto and Aperture the "necessary retagging" that results in the spining gear (not pin wheel) is extensive.  Am I correct that Aperture and iPhot share a common photo library of photos?
Any suggestions - work arounds - to resolve this issue would be greatly apprecated.

No, Aperture and iPhoto do not share a common library unless you tell them to.
    iPhoto:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

    TD

  • There is a huge problem with the 3.3 Aperture upgrade.

I have been up most of the night trying to use time machine to return to Aperture 3.2.4, and my previous library, as both were ruined by the upgrade as far as I can tell.  I hope that apple is working on a solution.  In the mean time I would recommend that anyone reading this to not upgrade until the problem is resolved.

You know that Apple does not respond to these posts. I've upgraded to 3.3 on two different computers with no problems. If you are looking for help, posting some info about the problem may generate some solutions. If you just want to vent, then what you posted is fine.

  • IPhoto requesting Aperture upgrade.

I recently attempted to use Photos and selected my iPhoto library during setup.  Photos could not open the library.  Now, when I try to open the library with iPhoto, it says "Aperture library needs to be upgraded." and further explains that to open this Aperture library in iPhoto, I need Aperture 3.3 or later.  I have never had Aperture on my system, but I clicked the Update Aperture button.  It took me to the App Store, which helpfully informed me that what I was looking for was no longer available.  I have attempted to access the Repair Library dialogue, but iPhoto immediately displays the same error message and will go no further.  Any idea on how to repair my iPhoto library would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    If that fails:
Restore from your back up. Repair the Library (as above) and then upgrade again.
