Aperture VAULT viewer or exporter?

Hello,
I've a urgent problem . This is the case: My macbook pro is send to the apple care and the lend me a powerbook g4. 1.67 with 512 ram. So I can not run aperture on this system.
I need the photo's that are in my library of aperture. I've a vault on an external disk. Is there a possibility to extract the pictures from my vault without Aperture?
Suggestions?

Duy Quoc Vo

Hi there,
Thank you for your answer i will give it a try in a few minutes.
Well it was very simple to do that. I told them that i was completely depandant on my macbook pro for work as a field photographer. And they arranged a powerbook for me very kind of Apple . I don't know if this is a apple service but i arranged it in an official apple store here in holland (amsterdam)

  • Can't create Aperture vault on my new 1 Terrabyte Hard Disk

Just bought two new Maxtor 1 terrabyte harddisks to back-up my Aperture vault,
my Aperture Library is now about 450 Gb. When I'm making a new vault on the new hard-disk, wich takes several hours, my G5 will "colapse" after a few hours, the whole system is stuck and the only way to get out is too get the power of.
When I restart and look at the disk I see that about 250 GB has been transported, I tried this several times and it's always stuck at about the same point. Also when I'm dragging the Aperture-file to the new disk, the same thing happens.
When I do the same thing to a Maxtor 500 GB disk everything worls fine.
Does anybody have a clue ? Thanks in advance !
    With kind regards
    Albert Brunsting

It could be that the 1TB drive is heating up and shutting down after turning for several hours causing the system to lockup. Might try adding a cooling fan pointed at the external HD.
One alternative is to reduce the library size. Export projects from that large library into another empty one until both are about equal in size. Then back up each library individually onto the external HD.

  • Aperture vault

I've been updating my monthly Aperture vault for 48 hrs and it seems to be 2/3 finished, but I see no action in past 24 hrs. I have close to 100 K pictures. How long will it take?

    Blackbelly wrote:
I'm curious, Andy, how/where you do backup your Aperture pictures?  I'd love an easier way to do it because my backup did end last evening after 60 hrs!  No, there was no option to cancel because the spinning beachball hovered over every part of Aperture's face. Literally force-quitting was the only thing to do. I think I have my vault going to an external harddrive which is part of my time-machine, but not sure because my son set it up for me.
Rick, I use a MacBook Pro retina with limited internal drive space, so I have only the library on the internal drive, and all the images are referenced and stored on an external drive. The internal is backed up to time machine over wifi. The external image folder is backed up to my time capsure (to a data partition) using an App called Sync Two Folders.
My backup process is geared around my travelling, during which my internal library is also likely to contain managed images taken during the trip. If it's a short trip, I'm only concerned with new images, so I'll just backup new images by exporting the project as a new library to an external drive (and sometimes a USB stick).
For longer trips, where I'm likely to do a lot of editing and organising, I have an extra drive which I keep current using Sync Two Folders. This has a bootable partition which is a clone of my internal, and a data partition which is a clone of my referenced images.
Sync Two Folders is really quick and efficient at just updating changes to keep things current, but like all sync software it can be dangerous if you give it the wrong settings.

  • Horizontal scroll not working  in aperture split view

I had recently upgraded to mountain lion and the newest aperture, but I noticed a problem with horizontal scrolling in aperture split view.  I am currently using a magic mouse, and it scrolls just fine within other applications except in aperture split view.  (it doesn't go to the next picture when I gesture  left and right)  if I do it many times, it will change to the next picture but then stops scrolling again.  I had tried to use a trackpad and it is better but I have to do it slowly and occationally it just doesn't work.  It only happens only in Aperture and not in safari or other applications.  Does anyone know the solution to this problem?  Any little help is greatly apprecitated

The recent Aperture update disabled the "Scroll to navigate photos in the Viewer" option.
You may need to reenable it in the Aperture general preferences.

  • Sharpness APERTURE vs iPHOTO~file exported from Aperture worse than iPhoto

    HEY.
i'm recently using Aperture for my Photo Editing work.I found that everything Good and Perfect after fine tune and preview in the Window of Aperture...while Export it to the Jpeg (originaly image import from jpeg file) I found it's a bit loose from what i see in the Window Aperture...means,Loose the Sharpness...whole image getting un-sharp or s'ld i say added gausion blur of feel??
Once i import it(the one exported from Aperture) into iPhoto and Export it (even down size to 800 of diamention) it became Sharp and nice colour tone while compare with the one which Export from Aperture!!!!
    Why?
In the Export setting of Aperture i do set the Quality to max 12 and 300dpi even...
    Need your hand...thanks!!

WARNING! The sharpness problem is occurring in iPhoto modifications as well! I'm running Tiger and Leopard at the same time on 2 different computers - SAME EXACT SHARPNESS problems. The problem is NOT the OS - it's in the APPLE Photo Aps!

  • Aperture 2.1.3 Export Problems with Cropped Photos

I ran into an odd problem after updating to 2.1.3. I was trying to upload to a Picasa album via "aperture-picasa-plugin", which I had used before without problems. The resulting export had problems with two photos I had cropped from landscape to portrait size. The resulting exports had the entire uncropped/original content "squeezed" into a photo matching the cropped size, so the exported pics were squished making everything look tall and skinny. (I found it especially odd that stuff I had cropped out was back in, but the size was cropped.)
I assumed it was a problem with the plugin, so I exported to a file straight from Aperture and had the same problem. I had other crops that worked OK, but they appear to all be landscape to landscape with no change in aspect ratio.
Is anyone else having this problem?

    YES!
I have seen this show up as well. I'm also using Aperture 2.1.3. I too thought it was the fault of the picasa plugin... but when I, like you, started doing my exports directly to files I noticed that they still had the same problem.
The horizontal 16x9 seems to be particularly vulnerable... And, yes, it almost looks as if the (pre-crop) master has been "squished" into the aspect ratio of the (post-crop) version. It is very strange, very annoying, and very intermittent. Although, I found that if I quit aperture, restart then re-export... I have better luck.
Boy, am I relieved to find somebody else who is having this problem. For a while there I thought I was going nuts.

  • Most recent RAW update, New Aperture and Maverick but still Aperture cannot view RAW files from my Sony RX-100 camera.

I have all the most recent Software updates and a brand new version of Aperture but when I connect my Sony RX-100 to my MBP, Aperture cannot view or import the RAW files. It will import JPEG format. I am new to Aperture and would appreciate some advice here. Do I need an old RAW format update or is there something else I need to do here.
    Thanks for any help.

Keith, the latest raw support claims to have fixed issues with the RX-100 raw support:
Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 5.03This update adds RAW image compatibility for additional cameras to Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11. Jan 16, 2014
This update adds RAW image compatibility for the following camera to Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11:
    Canon EOS M2
    It also includes fixes that:
Resolve an issue that prevented lens correction from working properly with Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 images
Address a color cast issue on some Olympus OM-D E-M1 images
The RX-100 has been supported since earlier, but the previous raw support has introduced a bug.
    itunesisbullshitplopcrapshould update the raw support.
This requires Aperture 3.5. and Mavericks.
    Correction: This requires
    System Requirements
    OS X 10.8.5 w/ iPhoto 9.4.3 or Aperture 9.4.5
    OS X 10.9 w/ iPhoto 9.4.3 or Aperture 9.4.5

  • Backup Storage - Aperture Vault versus Time Machine versus daily SuperDuper

What value does dumping the Aperture library to an Aperture Vault give in addition to running Time Machine to one drive and a daily SuperDuper copy to a second drive with irregular SuperDuper copies to an external drive that can be removed from the machine room.

    SImon,
Vault and Time Machine address different needs. Probably you will want to have both.
The advantage of Time Machine: incremental backups of previous versions, very compact storage. And you can integrate it into your regular backup of the whole system and include the regular masters as well. But the disadvantage: Time Machine decides for you, what will be deleted, if the backup drives get full. You do not have control over what will be saved and what not from the previous versions.
The advantage of vaults: You can make full backups of your library for well defined moments in time - snapshots of important states. I'd create a vault, whenever I make a major upgrade of the system at least.
Is there anyway of cancelling a stuck Vault update other than the sledgehammer approach of Force Quit?
If the graphical user interface is unresponsive, like when updating a vault, you can use the Terminal to send the "termination signal" to Aperture: Sometimes this will succeed, even if the "Quit" button does not work:
Look for the Process ID of Aperture in the Activity Monitor (launch Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor" and click the CPU heading. This will bring Aperture close to the top of the list. Make a note of the PID number in the first column, in this case 66550.
Launch a Terminal window and enter the following command:
kill -TERM 66550           (insert Aperture's PID instead of 66550)
This will send the "Software Termination Signal - TERM to Aperture, the same as pressing the "Quit" button should do, but send it directly, and not from the GUI that is unresponsive. This way I always succeded in cancelling a vaul update without force quitting. Not all processes can be terminated this way, however. The Terminal.app is also in the Applications > Utilities folder.

  • Aperture Vault and Time Machine

Does anyone know how this will operate ?
Will the Aperture Vault be TM 'unaware' ?
    Roger

I guess there'll be a new 'vault' mechanism, as TM backs up your hard drive and vaults typically reside on another drive. whether or not TM can work with other drive I don't know.
Perhaps vaults will remain largely unchanged and be used for recovering entire projects or libraries, and TM will allow you to go back through previous version of the current file, or restore individual images that you may have deleted.

  • Folder labeled "Images Removed from Aperture Vault #1"

    Hi all,
I was just looking at everything that's on the External Hard Drive on which I have my Aperture Vault.  There's another folder on that EHD labeled "Images Removed from Aperture Vault #1."  Noodling through that folder, it seems to be every master that I've deleted, broken down my year, month, and even day.
Is this normal behavior?  Can I delete all those sub-folders, etc.?  Should I keep the folder itself?  Did I somehow set this up initally?
Anyhoo, thank you all for any suggestions.

Yes it is a normal but unreported feature. When you run the vault command the vault created is a snapshot of the current state of the library. If there is a previous vault for this library then images that are in the vault but no longer in the library are moved to the folder you referred to.
If you are certain you do not want any of those images anymore you an delete them.

  • Aperture cannot read RAW exported from IDC?

When I shoot RAW with the kit lens of my nex6 it usually get distorted pretty bad. So what I'm trying to do is first open it up with Sony's image editor called IDC (latest version) and then export the RAW file from IDC then import that fixed file back into Aperture. However for some odd reason when Aperture imports a IDC exported file, not only is the distortion not fixed but the photo now has this weird green cast to it.
How do I fix this? I've already tried regenerating previews, that doesn't help.

TIFF would be the better call.  "Truly lossless" is difficult to say; changes are "baked in" to the RAW file on the conversion.
Still, the PTlens plugin recommended in another thread is probably the better call:

  • I have imported my pictures into aperture, how do I export into jpeg files so i can share files with friends who dont use aperture ?

I have imported my pictures into aperture, how do I export into jpeg files so i can share files with friends who dont use aperture ?

If you want the same export settings on some or all of the images you can select all that have the same export requirements and export them as a group.
If all the images have the same requirements then you can select them all and run the export command.

  • Text shrinking when viewing or exporting report

    Hi guys,
I am developing a crystal report in VS2008 with CR10, using the design environment within visual studio.  I have a strange problem where my report looks fine when in the crystal report designer but as soon as i run it through the crystal report viewer or export it, the text seems to shrink.  I have a text box that spans from the left margin to the right margin and is multiple lines, when exporting it goes about 25% smaller... if i put a line on the page the line spans the length correctly, so seems to just be text boxes.  I've tried setting page size and margins and setting the printer to 'No Printer' but nothing seems to work.
    any ideas appreciated
    cheers

    Hi Michelle,
    please post in detail:
Are you using VS 2008 with full CR 10(File version 10.0.9500.0) ?
    or
Are you using CR 2008 with embedded designer (File version 12.0.1100.683)?
The first version would not be supported as CR 10 was never tested for VS 2008.
In this case please update to CR XI R2 or CR 2008 to work on supported and tested environements.
Please see below the supported platform for CR 10.
    Best regards
    Falk

  • Time Capsule, Aperture Vault, Folders

I'm considering acquiring a Time Capsule to replace my WD NAS, which is clunky, unreliable, and absurdly slow. My Aperture library seems to constantly become corrupted by my using the NAS both for Time Machine backups and as a duplicate stoarge place for my Vault.
I understand a TC will allow me to backup using Time Machine. But will it also allow me to set up seperate folders, one for an Aperture Vault, and another for storing documents or other material outside of my Mac's hard drive? I also backup incrementally using Superduper and a portanle USB HD. Does anyone know if I could do  additional Superduper incremental backups onto a TC? (That's a lot of backing up, I know, but I'm paranoid about losing my stuff)
    OSX 10.9.1
    Aperture 3.5.1

The TC will have exactly the same issues as the WD NAS.. it is designed specifically for Time Machine.
Constant corruption of a library is due to network disconnections which over wireless are to be expected.. wireless is not a reliable media for holding open files.
You can use the TC to mix files and backups..
    See Q3 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
But I don't see you getting any further down the road to reliable use than you have now.
