Aperture will not open -- at all!

Aperture has suddenly stopped opening. I mean completely.
The OPTION and OPTION/COMMAND attempts result in the same non-opening as just clicking the icon.
I have more than 20,000 photos, but have not had any problems in the six months or so that I have been using it.
I bought through the App Store, and updraded through the App Store when this problem started last weekend, with no change in the error message.
System software is also up-to-date.
(This may or may not be related to deleting an unused 'User'. It was completely empty and all my Aperture files and picture folders are still right where they should be, but chronologically I must admit a possible connection.)
Any help would be appreciated a lot!

My 'Versions' folder had a single file called 'Current'. I restored the entire 'Versions' folder from my Time Machine that included a 'Version A' and a 'Version B' and Aperture opened right up, immediately updating and converting everything to the latest version. Should I delete the A?
The only thing that seems to not be working now is PhotoStream. I have it on my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook working fine, so it may just need a little time to kick in.
Sorry I missed that earlier thread with the same problem; I did look, just not hard enough, I guess. Strange they should both show up the same day. And... I did not install any new software at all between the last time everything worked and this problem. Like I posted, deleting an unused USER was the only change to the system that I was aware of partaking in.
And as for the differences in my OS, I have manually updated those items on my profile. I assumed they updated automatically, but if they are supposed to, they didn't.
Things seem to be right-side up now, so off to the Apple site to cancel my Genius bar appointment for tomorrow. Thank you very, very much!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. I know the report is long. Please post all of it anyway.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)

i think i might have a solution... i have windows vista and after i installed to latest itunes update everytime i tried to open it it would freeze. I tried everything, including uninstalling itunes and all of its components and reinstalled it numerous times. So i went to the itunes folder in my folders, not on itunes, and i deleted my itunes library and playlists. After that it worked just fine, all of my music was deleted but luckily i had my files saved elsewhere.

There are a couple of options that I know of to fix the issue.
One is listed in this thread - https://discussions.apple.com/message/24606478#24606478 - and involves uninstalling iTunes and related components and then re-installing iTunes. You will need to read the instructions in the thread to see the correct uninstall order.
Second option is use System Restore to set your system back to a date prior to the iTunes update. I did this before finding the thread mentioned above.
Not sure exactly what the problem is but I know, after a search, that MSVCR80.dll was indeed already installed on my computer.

Itunes will not open at all

hey guys,
ever since I've reinstalled my pc with windows xp pro sp3, my itunes will not open at all.
every time i click on itunes.exe it does not do anything. It does give me the hourglass icon as if my pc is working on it. but then it disappears without any itunes response.
to fix this issue, I have tried any possible method that i could find on the internet. even called the support center but they were not able to help me either.
I have tried to reinstall itunes *(no effect)*
did something with the cryptographic something in the administrative tools menu *(no effect)*
I have deleted the itunes installer cache *(no effect)*
I installed any older versions,( btw 7 does not work either)but after updating it *(no effect)*
itunes 6 does work; but since i have an iphone it is completely useless for me. so *(no effect)*
the strange thing is that itunes.exe does appear in the "processes" tab in task manager, but it does not show in the "applications" tab.
and every time I shut down my pc, I get the windows message that itunes is shutting down.
If you have any other suggestions, please be so kind help me.
this is driving me nuts. It's been going on for two months now.

I am not sure if I have this right from all those posts.
When you try to start iTunes, there is no error message and you can see iTunes.exe persisting on the processes tab of the task manager.
If that is your probelm it is commonly do to a problem with cryptographic services.
Before looking into that there is a quick thing to try:

Make a careful note of any error messages you get, this is important. post back the names of any dlls mentioned in error messages.
If you don't get any error messages try starting iTunes.

The fact it will not uninstall appears to be something completely new as nobody I know who uses Firefox has ever encountered this in the past.

Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

Have you tried closing the Mail app completely ? From the home screen (i.e. not with Mail 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Thank you for responding. Nothing actually worked! After reading the posts online, I called Apple. They indicated they have seen problems with some software after their upgrades. The technician was able to fix the problem on my computer remotely, but I have no clue what he did! But, it was definitely related to their recent upgrade to my computer.

Firefox 4.0 will not open at all. It shows that the process is running in the task manager but will not open the window even after closing the prcess and restarting.

I have this problem with Firefox 5.0 too. You are forced to reboot when access to 5.0 is denied. I had so many problems with 4.0 as well. I am so tired of the crashes and seeing that popup window to send your comments, it is ridiculous. I also find in 5.0 that mouse controls are fruitless and sometimes take over. The pages will jump forward or back, the pull down menus do not function, clicking boxes in online email don't work and pages will zoom in or out by themselves. I have three computers with different operating systems that this happens with. All these updates by programmers are crap. I thought I set firefox to not update automatically, since updates seem to be worse than the previous version, but it happens anyway. I will surf for an older version or switch to something else. Too bad because after 10+ years, they are losing my loyalty.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

WARNING: Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your [[Profiles|Firefox profile]] data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device! See [[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]].
