Aperture will not recognize my camera

I am having two issues with Aperture that just started happening.
First... I use to store all my photos on my external HDD. Now, I've disconnected that HDD and am storing my master aperture library on my internal HDD. I've changed my library preferences. That's the only change I've made recently.
#1 problem. Aperture is taking forever to start running. When I click on the icon it easily takes a few minutes for Aperture to load.
#2. When I select File>import it easily takes 2-3 minutes for aperture to bring up the import window and when the import window does load it will not recognize my Nikon D70 slr at all. However, after being connect for, maybe, 10 minutes all the sudden aperture will recognize my camera.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I have been using a Nikon 5700 camera for the last five or six years. Aperture couldn't recognixe the RAW files. I have been fiddling around trying to figure out what to do, bought software to convert files, copying, altering preference files, etc. What a pain. I just installed Lightroom and saw my entire photo library for the first time since I got my MAC

  • Labview will not recognize Sony camera connected via ethernet.

I have a Sony camera, model XCG-SX97E, and have been trying to interface it using Labview. I was told that the easiest way to do so is using the NI Vision packadge. However it became quickly appearent that Labview will not recognize the camera at all. It is connected via ethernet directly to my computer. I have tried using NI MAX and Instument I/O assitant, neither of which displayed ethernet or the device as an option. I have never tried to interface a third party device before and am at a loss at how to proceed.  If it helps to know, my computer has only one ethernet port, which is taken up by the camera when connected, and it has an Intel 82479LM Gigabit ethernet network connection.

After talking to tech support, I have dont the following:
    1) Uninstalled Sony drivers
               - This allowed the camera to show up in MAX
    2) Created a homemade cross over cable because I do not own one
    3) Disabled my firewall
Now, when I try to acquire an image in MAX, I get the error 0xBFF69031: "The system did not recieve test packet from the camera."
I have tried all the suggestions listed on http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/4D0ECFAA9AD9FF3E8625792600551A1E and have had no luck.
I am now going to try the solutions found in this thread: http://forums.ni.com/t5/Machine-Vision/0xBFF69001-0xBFFF800B-errors-with-GigE-JAI-CV-A10GE/td-p/1742...

  • IPhoto 11 will not recognize my camera or card reader

My new iMac with iPhoto 11, on Lion, will not recognise my camera, a SanDisk card reader or, for that matter, my iPhone 4.
It means that I cannot put new photo's into iPhoto.
From other forums and threads there seems to be an Apple issue but no fix.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

The point of using a  Different Account on your Mac is that it will tell us if the applications are sound or not. If the problem occurs in another User account we'll know the issue is systemic. If it doesn't then we know the apps are sound and the issue is something in your account.
Basic troubleshooting: try the same things using different cables. If the cable is faulty then that's how we'll know. That fact that other features work using this cable means nothing. A connector cable has several strands. One could be damaged.
Ditto for using different USB ports  on the machine.

  • IMovie 7 will not recognize logitech camera

I have iMove 7 and just bought a Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro. When I brought up iMovie, it wouldn't recognize the camera. What preference did I forget?

You might try posting to the iMovie 08 discussion. This one's concerned with iMovie 4 and earlier.

  • Help!  Computer will not recognize my camera at all!

Hello, everyone. This is my first post, and I am at a loss as to what to do.
I've had my camera for over a year, and I have never had any problems before uploading pictures from my camera to my PowerBook. However, all of the sudden, last night, my computer decided it didn't want to recognize that I had my camera connected! Both iPhoto 4.0.3 and Image Capture are unaware I have my camera connected. The camera I'm using is a Kodak EasyShare Z730.
Any suggestions as to what I should do? I've tried plugging it in a different USB port, and I've tried restarting the computer.
    Any ideas would be wonderful!
    Thanks in advance!
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Can you temporarily connect some other USB device to verify that your PowerBook's USB ports are in working order? Do you have another computer to which your camera can be connected to verify that a working USB connection is being made from the camera?
If we can somehow eliminate a hardware issue, then you can focus on software. Have you tried creating a new admin user account? If the new account recognizes your camera, it would narrow the problem down to something within your regular user account.

  • Aperture will not recognize photos after failed import?

    Hi, I'm running a 13.3" MacBook Pro circa fall 2010 with 10.6.8.
I was uploading photos from an SD card I use with my camera.  I accidentally pressed "import all", and Aperture began to import everything on the card.  I did not want this, so I stopped it.  A pop-up appeared, something about "if I want to finish the import first," I think.  I pressed "no."  It eventually all stopped after canceling it 1 or 2 more times.
After this happened, I can no longer see the photos on the SD card when trying to import them in Aperture.  It just shows a grey background with "Loading Assetts..." at the bottom and the spinning wheel.
Why won't Aperture recognize these photos after this failed import?  And how do I fix it!
    Thank you, very much.
    -P.W.

When you are seeing Aperture stuck on "Loading Assets", try to select that line in the Activity window. If possible, press "Cancel task".
Can you now access the option in the "Import" window and check the setting? Make sure, that "Do not import duplicates" is disabled, and that the "Import Settings" do not exclude any filetypes.
Check the "File Types" brick and the "Raw&Jpeg" pairs brick. Can you now see again the images on the card?
In any case, repair your Aperture library after the force quit. Aperture 3 User Manual: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library
Your Aperture library may have become corrupted, so that the Import dialog cannot access the database files inside.

  • Aperture will not recognize my nikon coolpix 5700 NEF raw images.

I have not had any luck discovering a 5700 import solution. Nikon doesn't feel they have any obligation here. This is a problem for me. Maybe we can find a programmer who can help. In my windows days I would suspect a bad .ext name.

  • OSX will not recognize my camera

I have a Nikon D70 SLR. It is using a compact flash card to store the images.
I connect it to my computer using a USB cable and Aperture to download the images.
When I connect the camera to my computer I do not get a little Hard Drive icon to appear on my desktop. With other people's camera when I connect the camera I get and icon. Why doesn't it happen with my camera?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

    OK.
Thanks guys. While trying to answer your questions I found the answer.
There was a setting on my camera for the USB connection.
    It was either PTP
    or Mass Storage
I set it to Mass Storage instead of PTP. Do you guys know the difference?
    Thanks again.

  • My Mac and/or iPhoto will not recognize my camera.

So I shot pics in RAW yesterday and when I hook my camera it is not recognized. This happened the other day also when I shot in RAW. What would be the problem?

Did you apply the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.2? If so the following may help:
    "Source:http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8142169#8142169
    Page Title: Apple - Support - Discussions - Can't import Canon RAW's (400D) to ...

This might work (from Clem who figured it out):
Delete the file: System/Library/CoreServices/RawCamera.bundle then (re)install the previous version.
    Get the previous version here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/digitalcamerarawcompatibilityupdate21.htm l
    Restart your computer. "
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Image Capture will not recognize my camera or iPhone4?

After recent updates the image capture now reads "no camera or scanner selected" when my iPhone 4 and/or digital camera are connected. Why? Help? Anyone else with this problem...please have a solution!

Rebecca have you had the chance to restart or do a SMC reset? If not then please do see if that helps.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • My mac book will not recognize my camera to upload my pictures

I have no idea how to get or make Iphoto on my mac because i bought my mc used. I also cannot get exe files to run. Does anyone PLEASE know where I can get this stuff?

Marcie, I apologize that I didn't realize that I was talking to the same person on two different threads....I never put two and two together. Have you tried a different USB cable to the optical drive? Other than that it would appear that the drive you bought isn't going to play nice with your mac. Most, not all usb optical drives will work without a hitch, some just won't. Can you return that drive and buy one from a Mac specialist like OWC....someone that will guarentee that their drive works with a mac.

  • My iMac will not recognize my camera

I have a Nikon and an iMac OS x 10.7.4 For what ever reason my computer quit recognizing my camera. It was working then it was not. I have restated it. I have charged the battery on the camera. I have relocated the USB cable to the back of the computer. I do not see the icon in my device section. Any Ideas out there?

Most likely it is the CDs and DVDs Application System Preferences.  If you don't have the Finder opening it, it won't appear on the desktop.  This user tip explains how it might disappear in other methods, because any removable media won't be able to be ejected by the Finder unless it knows to show that kind of media in the correct location:

You posted to the iMac PPC forum.  I'll have a moderator move the thread.

  • After iTunes 10.5 and Aperture 3.2 updates, Aperture will not recognize photos in iPhone attached to iTunes.

Any clues to getting images off iPhone now? Worked fine previous. Thanks.

I had the same issue after the updates and using iOS5. I disconnected my iPhone from the Mac, quit iTunes and reconnected my iPhone. Seemed to work. Only can't access the WHOLE camera roll.
Hope this helps someone. If I work out how to get the rest of the roll I'll post back.

I have just shot my first clip with this video camera and am trying to import it into imovie 11 but imovie will not recognize the camera even though the video camera shows up in system profiler ? any suggstions please.

One cable, or an adapter plug for the cable? I assume the former.
If the Sony works, you can capture using that most likely.

You should see the camera identified here:
If it's not seen by the OS it can't be seen by iMovie, regardless of the version you're using.

Since there is no detail I'll guess - if the photo is in sRAW mode Canon has not released the specs for sRAW and it can only be processed by their software
If the camera is in normal RAW or JPEG then post back
