Aperture with Black Macbook

I'm using the Aperture trial with a new black Macbook, 2 gb RAM, OS 10.4.9. I've reviewed other posts re using Aperture with a Macbook, and have seen mixed results.
I really like this app and want to purchase it, but certain simple operations that should be smooth are choppy. Eg., when the import screen opens after inserting a card into the card reader, or simply opening or closing stacks, it is slow and choppy.
Is this everyone's experience using a Macbook with 2gb RAM? Am I missing something that could help (other than future improvements, possibly leopard, etc). I am using it with an Apple 20" cinema display. Thanks...

Thanks... I'm really torn here. I absolutely want to buy aperture, but it is painfully slow at times. I checked it out at the local apple store today, and on both an imac and macbook pro it worked fine. But on the Macbook, it's frequently slow and not smooth.
I think at least some of this would be easy to fix. For example, that import screen that opens in an animated fashion looks great- IF the hardware is sufficient. On the macbook it just goes way too slow. There should be at least an option to disable those "candy" graphics that require the better video card.
I just downloaded Lightroom to look at. Frankly, I wasn't even going to, as I know aperture will integrate well with what I do. Perhaps Apple will improve those speed issues for those of us who are "serious amateurs" and use the macbook with its limited graphic capability....

  • "L" style power adapter trouble with Black Macbook

Hey guys. So recently my cat chewed my old "T" shaped power adapter, so I was forced to buy a new one. I went and picked up the "L" style one. Thing is, it won't charge/be recognized unless I restart the computer. Even then, if I unplug it and then close the computer to put it to sleep and then try to plug in and charge again it won't work. I tried powering off, removing battery, holding the power button down for 5 seconds and the turning it back on and charging. It charges but then if I remove the charger and put it to sleep it won't work. Is there any way to fix this?
    ~LA

Like most above...recently had my "T" style magsafe cord fray so Apple replaced with newer "L" style magsafe. Figured -- Sweet! -- must be better. Boy was I WRONG! This newer style simply has issues with my Late-2009 MBP. Works for about a month, but then I get power connection issues. The green light keeps flickering off despite the magnet being fully seated in the slot. A jiggle gets the green light to go back on but then a puff of air makes it shut off. Sometimes I'll flip the orientation around to get the green light back but i'll go off eventually with the slightest jostle.
Have the Firmware Update. Did the SMC reset. Checked to see if any foreign object in the computer magsafe port. There was nothing. Cleaned male/female contacts. No kinks in cord. Basically I'm on my third warrantied 'brand new' magsafe that has connection issues.
Fortunately for me I had a brand new "T" style plug that originally shipped with my MBP. Weird thing is that it works just fine. No power disconnections. Ended up calling Apple, and went to Apple store as well as authorized service centre to see what's up but all claim there is no known issuses with "L" style Magsafes but rather my only options are to continue warrantying and swapping out the Magsafes or let them have my MBP for a few days to open up and see what's up. Ummm...uhhh...***?

Sounds like a cow eh? You might have a case of the moos.
No kidding! This was a common problem on early core duo MacBooks.

  • Black MacBook - Color

I am again, intensively considering buying a Mac. There is no shop in my area, so I can not see it before buying. A stupid question is: What is the color of the power adapter and all cables shipped together with black MacBook.
      Windows XP Pro

Thanks Everybody. As you can see I am new in here and I've never owned a Mac before but wanted to buy it already for a long time. There was always sth against it (model, price, keyboard language etc.) Finally the time has come. It also looks like (if I got it right) that BLACK MacBook 2Ghz is effectively 150USD more expensive then WHITE 2Ghz - considering +50USD for the 80GB HD upgrade. Thanks again.

  • Aperture printing with black horizontal lines on Epson RX580

    Hi all,
I've recently converted to a Mac and Aperture after decades on PCs. I just printed my first pictures with Aperture on my old Epson RX580, and they have thin but distinct black horizontal lines. About 3-4 evenly spaced lines on an 8x10.
It's possible that my printer is just dying. I did the nozzle test and the alignment test and cleaned the nozzles a bunch of times. But the lines are still there.
I'll try to print from another computer (to confirm that it's the printer), but is anyone familiar with this? Could it be something in the Aperture settings or in the way it talks to the printer?
    Thank you.

    Hi
I've recently notice I have a thin black line in my screen.. I went to Apple store and was told it’s a hardware problem (400$+ to fix as no warranty).
This is the second time I’m having hardware screen issues with a Macbook Air (last time it was 3 months after I bought it, and it was replaced with this one)
Looks like the Macbook Air screens are very problematic!  Anyone experience something like that?
    Thanks,
    Eyal.

  • My macbook pro freezes and then displays a blue screen with black stripes... do you know what's wrong with it?

My macbook pro freezes and then displays a blue screen with black stripes... do you know what's wrong with it?
I have a two and half year mac book pro... I've had some issues with the screen looking scrambled when I quit certain applications, but now it's turned into something worse.  I'll be working on my computer and the thing will freeze.  When I force restart, the first screen, the apple logo, will be a blue tint and won't boot up normally.  Then I try safe mood and it will then boot just fine.  But there are blue stripes on my screen.  The screen alternates from a blue tint to normal and if the computer freezes again the screen will become completely blue with black stripes.  I haven't tried reinstalling my software because I don't have the startup discs that came with my computer.  If I was sure that would fix it I would purchase them, but if it's a hardware issue I'm afraid that I'm screwed.  I've been able to successfully get the blue off my screen by putting it to sleep and then waking it up, but that's not working well anymore either.
Does anyone else have experience with this?  Is it the firmware or what?  I have a MacBook Pro from early 2011 and I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    Please help... Thanks!

I just experienced this exact same issue with my early 2011 15" macbook pro. Since like a month after purchasing it I had issues with the screen randomly going dark on me. I sent it in for repair inder waranty they replaced the gpu and logic board but I continued to have the same issues with the screen randomly going black sometimes I would need to reboot it in order to get the screen to go back on but it happened so infrequently and I used the computer for school so disnt find the time to resend it in to apple. Just last night the screen started to display the blue screen with black verticle lines on it. I called apple and explained to them  the issues that had been ongoing since I purchased the laptop but they said because I was now outside of warantee that any repairs at thia point wouldn't be covered. Fml so glad I spent 2200 on this future proof macbook pro what a joke my sister purchased a toshiba laptop for 300 4 years ago and it still running like a champ. I loved my macbook but at the price I paid I expect it to last longer than 2 years before leaving me high and dry. *** apple??

  • I plugged my macbook pro into an external monitor, then unplugged it later and now it is stuck with black borders on top and bottom and zoomed out like it is still on the monitor. How do I fix it?

I started using my external monitor with my macbook pro and as soon as I plug it in it to the monitor it adjusts the screen by zooming out a bit and creating about 3/4 of an inch black borders on the top and bottom of the screen. But these dont show up on the monitor so I assumed it was fine. But when I took it off the monitor, the borders were still there like it was still on the monitor. Any hellp? Its starting to mess with my eyes haha.

    Hi aefulcher,
It sounds like you had the external display set to mirror the internal display so the resolution(s) were changed to match each other.

I just bought a new external monitor (ASUS), and it have DVI and VGA plugs. I bought the DVI adapter to connect with my macbook pro laptop. But the external monitor remain black… so I turn it off then turn it back on, it said "No VGA signal". Does it means I have to use VGA adapter instead? I am not sure how it work, I am very new to it… I hope you can help me out!

Can you start Firefox in [[Safe mode]] ?
You can also do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can initially skip the step to create a new profile, that may not necessary for this issue.

  • An affair with a black MacBook...

Got my 2nd MacBook earlier today and having used it for the last 7 hours, here's some of my thoughts about it...
I checked it out at the store for a few minutes, never really spent much time as I was set on the white MacBook but when I took it out of the gray cloth-like covering I quickly changed my mind, the black finish was really nice!
Fit and finish was the same as my white MacBook which is great, no complaints whatsoever. Screen checks out fine, no dead or stuck pixel that I can see.
I run /dev/null for about 25 minutes to see what temp it will go up to and it's nice to report that CoreDuoTemp shows that the temp went all the way up to 84 and the fan blasted full speed which brought down the temp to 77 then hovered at 80-81.
I listened carefully to the "moo" sound from 66-70 degrees (tried it like 5 times) and no "moo" whatsoever.
No whine either and the temp is basically same as my white MacBook. Idle's at around 48-50 degrees, with the Antec Laptop Cooler, it even goes further down 4-5 degrees.
Now, the only thing I have done so far is WIPE the system and re-installed the OS from scratch (don't ask, it's just how I am). If anyone who are having "moo" and "whining" issue would like to voluteer to see if they re-install the OS from scratch if it makes any difference? Same with the heat issue too.
I love everything about the black MacBook as with my white one but the black one is just sexy!!! though the love affair started fading away towards the end of the night as I quickly noticed finger prints all over where as my white one doesn't show any at all and I haven't even wiped it down since purchasing it Tuesday last week from the Apple store.

ps. I setup another Ichat account so I can test video conference with my self with both laptops... that was more fun than Photobooth!!!

When the MacBooks first came out I immediately went to my Apple Store to check em' out. They only had a white one on display and I thought that was awesome! After playing with it a bit, I knew I had to have one but waited.
Today...I had a chance to go back and they had a BLACK MACBOOK next to the white one. So I messed around on the black one awhile and even asked an Apple Rep to pop in a DVD MOVIE.
WELL.....I started pulling my hair out trying to decide because...against all odds...I really got attached to the black MacBook but I also remember reading this thread before I went and realized I really wanted both. But like others, I can't afford 2 of them.
Meanwhile....as I played around a gentleman checking out the white one next to me had no idea how OSX worked and I helped him out showing him things. A few minutes later he told...."Well I don't need one but I want one."
Next thing I know he tells the Rep to get him a WHITE MACBOOK! I will be buying one next week but I've decided that I DO like the BLACK MATTE MACBOOK!
The smudges and fingerprints were not near as bad as many people claim them to be. I'M SO GLAD I HAVE AN APPLE STORE NEARBY!

  • Hello I suffer from a problem with your MacBook  There is a black line in screen

    Hello
I suffer from a problem with your MacBook
There is a black line in screen
    http://i48.tinypic.com/35apzz8.png

Is the line always present? If you boot up the MacBook holding down the option key during startup so that you get to the startup manager, is the line still there?
If so you have a hardware issue and it needs to be repaired. Contact Apple using their Express Lane if you live in a country where that is available, or call the appropriate phone number on this page if not. You can also take the MacBook in to an Apple store or service provider.
    Best of luck.

  • Black MacBook with white cables?

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I am really curious if apple has an explanation as to why they shipped the Black MacBooks with white cables and a white remote.

if you think the choice to include a white powercord

    perplexes me
Uh, I'm really unconcerned with what perplexes you. I am perplexed as to why they would ship a black computer with a different color accessories. If price actually IS the reason for this and not just a guess on your part then answer the question. If you don't know then don't answer it.
Now you are beginning to annoy me.

  • Macbook pro-Freezes with black screen at start up.

Macbook pro-Freezes with black screen at start up. I've tried inserting the Mac OS X install disc to run the hardware test(Restart and hold down D), But it still does nothing. Just the black screen. Now I can't get the disc out. I've tried holding down the track pad key upon start up but that doesn't work neither.
What do I do??? Please help.

Remove the battery to find your serial number in the battery bay. Then you can look your MBP up on EveryMac.com:
    http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/
That will give you all the information on your Mac.
This is assuming that you have the MBP with the removable battery and not the unibody. The unibody has different graphic chips.
    Good luck!
