Aperture with MBP? Feedback, does it bog down system?
I am looking for feedback on Apeture with a MBP 2Ghz CD with 1.5g RAM.
I am tempted to purchase it, but am concerned about clogging up my system. I am a professional Photographer who has a large library of work. My experience to date with these types of programs has been fairly poor. Iphoto *****, Lightroom is ok... does this improve. I have read as many reviews as I can, but am looking for first hand feedback.
On an original MBP with only 1gb of ram it is quite trying on my patience sometimes,I would recommend buying as much ram as your machine can take as this seems to be the most influencing factor. My experience is that aperture is generaly not too bad,but don't try to use any other app at the same time!I believe this is due to Aperture hogging all the ram.
Try the trial, don't let it store your files in the aperture library, don't allow automatic preview building or at least keep preview size to a minimum (it will still generate thumbnails in any case).I fare better when Aperture is the only app running,I find that even after quitting A that any apps that were open simultaeneously seem to take a while to recover their normal speed, opening them fresh after quitting A seems to produce better results in terms of responsivness.

MBP 13" early 2001 bogging down with Lightroom 5
4gb of ram
std video card - 384mb
50gb free space on hd
no other apps open - it is a dog.
is it worth it to see a marked improvement in performance to upgrade the ram to 8 or 16gb?
ThanksIf your mbp is over 12 years old, it's time for a new computer - don't waste money on new ram for a computer that is so old.
More ram might make it go a little faster, but it probably won't make it go a lot faster.
Just my opinion - but you asked for it .
Cheers,

Flash Player Eating Up CPU, Bogging Down System
Hello,
After upgrading to Snow Leopard I've noticed that Flash Player takes up a lot more CPU power than it did with Leopard. Is this a common problem? If so, how do I fix it?
Thanks in advance. The reason this is happening is because in Snow Leopard all the plug-ins that work with Safari are now independent processes. So that makes Safari more stable than it was in Leopard. So if you think it is taking more CPU its coz its a seperate process.
Ideally you have nothing to worry about but if you would still like to remove it and reinstall then you can remove it from:
Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/FlashPlayer.plugin
Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/FlashPlayer.xpt
It can be downloaded from http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/internet_utilities/adobeflashplayer.html
Restart the Mac after you finish installing the player and make sure to have Quit Safari and other browsers before the installation.
Hope this helps dude..!! -
Safari 5.0.6 (2011) bogs down, Javascript runs slow
I have an old computer, Quad G5 (PowerPC) running 10.5.8 Leopard. I'm on Safari 5.0.6.
After running for a while, with several windows open, Safari bogs down. Scrolling slow. I get a prompt
"Javascript running slow" [ like in Twitter.com page ]
..with option "Cancel or Continue". Sometimes clicking on a Safari Menu Bar item...30 sec delay!!
If I quit Safari, & restart..everything's fine (no bogging down). But, sure enough, "bogging" comes back shortly.
What is going on?
Firefox seems to run OK on my machine
I setup my parents with a iMac 27" Intel Core 2 Duo, & I think I had the same "bogging down" problem..I have an old computer, Quad G5 (PowerPC) running 10.5.8 Leopard. I'm on Safari 5.0.6.

Does making Folders filled with Playlists Bog down your computer?
Hi,
I have just finished uploading my entire CD collection to iTunes (6.0.3) and would like to make many, many playlists (500+). I don't want to scroll thru all of these to find a specific playlist. So I want to make some general folders (ie-Road songs, Workout songs, Love mix, etc...) I am also concerned that if I have 50 Folders filled with 5-10 playlists, that it will bog down my system. Has anyone experienced this? Has anyone experienced other issues by doing this? Any comments or would be suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Signed,
Reluctant Playlist Maker

Bogging down with large number of photos
I have over 115,000 (give or take a few 1000) photos in iPhoto at present. I primarily use it to organize photos so I can find them, make slideshows, and hope to eventually make photo books - they're our family history for the past 7 years or so. My iPhoto library is about 155 GB.
I'm running this on the iMac - bought a couple of months ago. 4GB RAM with a 1T HD.
My main grumble is that whenever iPhoto is open, my iMac bogs down. I frequently see the spinning wheel, beach ball, or whatever it's called, particularly when I have the iPhoto to the front and it's just starting up... (plus other times).
A local Mac person thought that if I moved to Aperture, it would handle this number of photos much better... I've never much looked at Aperture before, so I'm not sure... About 2+ years ago, I had PCs and used Adobe Photoshop Elements - loved the organizer, and the level of editing power was just about right.... These days, I have next to no time for any editing except the occasional red-eye, but I can enjoy doing it on occasion (mostly swapping out backgrounds, making collages, etc).
What could I do to improve things???iPhoto is rated for 250,000 images and while you've a way to go just yet that is still a very big library.
With Libraries of that size I would expect a slowness loading or quitting, though not in normal use - viewing, organizing and so on.
You may be able to speed up launching by turning off all automatic syncing - looking for Shared Libraries, Checking with Mobile Me etc in the Preferences.
Aperture is indeed a Professional application, but I would caution that there is less value in it if you're not shooting Raw and that there is a learning curve in using it. You can download a free trial of Aperture [here|http://www.apple.com/aperture/trial>
You can have multiple libraries in iPhoto, however the downside is that you can only have one open at a time.
If you opt to go that way then to create a library: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library' and use the same keystroke to Choose between Libraries.
Managing Multiple Libraries - including moving pics/albums/rolls and metadata between them - is greatly facilitated by using iPhoto Library Manager

My MBP Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013 Bogging down
Hey Folks,
This is my first time posting here so please bare with me.
I use my computer strictly for Final Cut X and have gone 9 months with no an issue. This Season I've been using it and I've noticed within the first 15 mins of editing, I see my ram go from 10gb avail to 5gb. (I'm not running any more apps than before or doing heavy VFX.) After another 5 mins it gets down to 820mb available and I have to run CleanMemory to reset it back up to five.
Now, this is the 16gb with 500gb flash and shouldn't be bogging down hard enough to reset (like windows xp)..
Please Help?Pre-Mavericks
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
Mavericks and later
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the View menu. Click on the CPU tab in the toolbar. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. I would also check what is consuming memory steadily. It definitely sounds like you have an issue that needs taking care of. Open the Console in the Utilities folder, select All Diagnostic Messages, and see if there is a steady stream of error messages being posted into the log. -

I have down loaded a track which was initially missing 1min 30 seconds. iTunes enabled me to reload the rack which is now complete on the PC. However, syncing with my Ipad2 does not seem to replace the incomplete version with the full version. Can anyone out there help?
Thanks SThanks for the response. Unfortunately, I've un-checked the track and re-synced the Ipad as suggested, but then re-checking and re-syncing han no effect. The track is still missing the final minute and a half or so. I've tried it twice, but the effect is the same.
Any other ideas? Would un-checking the entire music collection and staring again work, or is that a road to disaster? -
I'm having problems with FlashPlayerPlugin and plugin-container. They keep starting up and bogging down the system. This has been a recent occurrance. I've made sure that I have the latest version. I notice the problem when I am opening some applicatio, and it freezes. If I go to Task Manager, I can see the two Adobe apps sucking up CPU cycles. If I end the processes, then the other apps continue. Today, I uninstalled FlashPlayerPluginqand plugin-container. All day since I have had no freezing of an app. What should I do to correct the problem?
Here's an explanation of what those processes are.
Inside Flash Player Protected Mode for Firefox
I'm curious about what you did to uninstall just those. -
I'm having trouble with my 'sound up' and 'sound down' keys. They're doing other functions. This is only a relatively new thing.
You didn't mention what those "other functions" were. That might help!
First thing to check is System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard tab - make sure "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" is un-checked. Hopefully that still works in Mountain Lion. -

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

Lightroom 5.2 running Video (MOV) sometimes gets bogged down with dynamiclinkmediaserer.exe taking up 88% of the cpu time. This was a bug in Lightroom 4. When will it be fixed?
Running the script by python2 solves it for me:
su - mythtv -c "nice -n 19 python2 /usr/bin/tv_grab_nl_py --output ~/listings.xml"
