Aperture with triple display?
Does anyone use Aperture with three monitors? I just connected a third display and Aperture seems confused and there seem to be bugs.
"Secondary display" seems to mean two rightmost monitors for me.
When cropping, I sometimes see the same crop box on both of them, but with different photos?
I'd like Aperture to just forget the third display — is that possible?
Regrettably, I was having the same issue. I would have been fine having Aperture 3 leave my third monitor alone. DVD player, iTunes, Hulu, Front Row, etc. all seem to "mute' that third monitor, but I had a number of bugs including hanging and crashes.
I was using a displaylink USB card, which may have been partly to blame. Best to get feedback from someone running a Mac Pro, or someone with a MBP that has an more supported express card and video driver combination.
I ended up having to remember to unplug the adapter before I launched Aperture 2. I scrapped the two monitors for a large monitor for that reason shortly before Aperture 3 came out.

T430 - Having problems with triple display
I'm using the docking station series 3, and I want to use three monitors. I want the ThinkPad LCD as my main, and I have two more monitors connected (one via DVI on the docking station and another via DisplayPort on the docking station. The laptop recognizes all three displays, but I can't activate all three at once. It will only let me active two at the max. If I try to activate a third, the screen flickers and nothing happens. Any ideas?
Hi, dnidk
The NVIDIA Optimus does allow for this functionality, but not all T430 machines have the Optimus GPU, a category under which your machine may also fall. You could try going here and downloading the Optimus driver for your system. The drivers will be under the Video category. Select the one for your system and see if that helps.
Best,
Adam

20 inch 2.4Ghz iMac with 2nd Display
Is there anyone out there using a 20 or 24 inch 2.4Ghz iMac with a 2nd Display with Aperture?
I'm interested to know if Aperture 2 will perform adequately, or whether the demanding graphics requirements of Aperture will be over-extending the iMac graphics card with a second display.
My dilemma is that my G5 with Radeon 9600 graphics doesn't really cut the mustard, and the display of my 20 inch iMac isn't suitable for critical image editing applications due to the graduation in screen brightness from top to bottom; so until I can justify the move to a Mac Pro, my options are either getting the (increasingly hard to get) x800 XT card for the G5, or (and maybe the better option?) a second display for the iMac.
Many thanks in advance!
Forrest SmythThanks Mark - yes I have an iMac as well as a G5 with AGP graphics and the 9600 card, so it's a toss up between buying a second display for the iMac, or a x800 XT card for the G5. My iMac also has 4Gb of ram compared to the G5's 3Gb.
My thinking is that by going the iMac with a second display route, I will have the advantage of two displays for not a lot more than the cost of an x800 XT card (if I can find one), in a system that is [possibly] snappier running Aperture. The fly in the ointment could be the extra overhead of a second display on the iMac - so I'm hoping someone who is running Aperture with dual displays on an iMac might read this and provide some feedback.

Problems Setting up triple Display
Hi Folks, after some help
Recently tried setting up a triple display set up on Mac pro with ATI Radeon HD 5770 from the single display previously used.
I have 2 new Samsung B1930 monitors connected through Mini Display Port to VGA apple connectors in the 2 Slots and my old Samsung B2430 connected up through the DVI.
What i hoped to achieve is
Left B1930 extended desktop
Middle: B2430 Main screen with Dock etc
Right B1930 Extended Screen
What i have is the left B1930 as the main screen (inc Dock) and the Middle B2430 and righ B1930 as the extension. Is it only possible to extend one way? or is there a way to extend left and right.
Cheers in advanceIgnore, completely thick user! Put your glasses on and Drag the white bar. Does blaming a small 19" monitor help

Is is possible to Triple Display from the New MacMini
Is it possible to run a triple display on a MacMini with the intel HD 4000 chipset (which according to Intel is triple monitor capable).
I would assume one display would run off the HDMI and the other two from the Thunderbolt Port.
If it is possible three displays, is it possible to daisy chain two MiniDisplayport monitors from the Thunderbolt port. I know it will run one MiniDP but am unsure if it will run 2.You can use a splitter for one output but yo have top mirror those displays.
You need a USB video adopter like this one to add a third independent monitor

T420 - Triple display not working
So, according to this page: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-76617.html , the T420 I have is supposed to support two external displays as well as the laptop display as follows:
ThinkPad-only Triple Display Configuration:
1st Display: Active ThinkPad display
2nd Display: VGA analog monitor attached to the ThinkPad VGA analog port.
3rd Display: DisplayPort monitor attached to the ThinkPad DisplayPort
However, when I connect both external displays, it will switch off one of the external monitors (the first one connected).
Using display port to HDMI cable for monitor 1, VGA for monitor 2. Both are verified working as external monitors with the T420, just not at the same time.
I've looked through the BIOS and display properties to no avail.
Is this actually possible without a docking station?
-BOnly a laptop with a discrete NVIDIA graphics card, will support those configurations. If you just have the onboard Intel graphics, then I bet you'll only be able to drive two without a dock. With a dock, you still may be able to drive three monitors (including the ThinkPad's LCD).
BTW, I found even with an NVIDIA discrete graphics option, that page you refer to is incorrect (else I have a problem with my docking station). It says you can drive three monitors with "Any combination of the following" when after much trial and error, I determiend one has to be a VGA analog connection. -
I'm using the Aperture trial with a new black Macbook, 2 gb RAM, OS 10.4.9. I've reviewed other posts re using Aperture with a Macbook, and have seen mixed results.
I really like this app and want to purchase it, but certain simple operations that should be smooth are choppy. Eg., when the import screen opens after inserting a card into the card reader, or simply opening or closing stacks, it is slow and choppy.
Is this everyone's experience using a Macbook with 2gb RAM? Am I missing something that could help (other than future improvements, possibly leopard, etc). I am using it with an Apple 20" cinema display. Thanks...Thanks... I'm really torn here. I absolutely want to buy aperture, but it is painfully slow at times. I checked it out at the local apple store today, and on both an imac and macbook pro it worked fine. But on the Macbook, it's frequently slow and not smooth.
I think at least some of this would be easy to fix. For example, that import screen that opens in an animated fashion looks great- IF the hardware is sufficient. On the macbook it just goes way too slow. There should be at least an option to disable those "candy" graphics that require the better video card.
I just downloaded Lightroom to look at. Frankly, I wasn't even going to, as I know aperture will integrate well with what I do. Perhaps Apple will improve those speed issues for those of us who are "serious amateurs" and use the macbook with its limited graphic capability.... -
Possible issue with external displays
Ive been looking into why my latest and greatest g4 1.67 17" powerbook runs my copy of Aperture like a dog with 1 leg and i think it could be due to the external 23" display i use with this laptop.
With that amount of screen, the GPU must have to allocate a fair amount just to run the display needed, thus distracting from the overall amount that Aperture is allocated.
I know apple mentioned that external displays work well with the powerbook series, but what i feel they forget to mention that if you expect to run aperture with this kind of setup, your looking at a pretty slow machine full stop.
Digging through the apple developer notes seems to confirm this and at the moment ive not been able to get any information from apple regarding this issueI doubt it. Your machine should have the 128MB graphics card.
Internal screen 1680x1050x3 = 5.292MB for the main screen buffer.
External screen 1920x1200x3 = 6.912MB for the main screen buffer.
Even with extra VRAM taken up by Quartz Extreme, the external screen isn't going to be using a huge amount of VRAM out of 128MB.
The real test, of course, is to see if the performance is the same without the external display.

How can I limit aperture to two displays
I want to run Aperture on display 1 and 2, and Keynote on display 3. When Aperture is active display 1 has most of the application, and both of the other displays show images of whatever is selected on display 1. How can I limit aperture to just two displays.
Aperture 3.2.4 on Snow Leopard 10.6.8John Guo wrote:
For your account choose "no access" by clicking on the triangle.
Hi a.
What ì assume John means to say is you have to block access to your "guest accounts". What John describes is what you should use for any folders and files you keep outside the Home folder of your Admin account. There's also a more advanced thingy called Access Control Lists, but I'm not going to discuss that here.
Inside your Admin account's Home folder things work a bit differently: by default, at least on my Macs, an account (even it's Administrator) doesn't have access to another accounts data except for the Public and Sites folders. All other folders are unaccessible, which is indicated by a small stop sign in the lower left corner of the folder. Exception are of course folders are that you shared on purpose through File Sharing in the System Preferences menu.
You also talk about Applications. I don't have experience with this but I believe you can create an Applications or Application/Utilities folder in your Admin account's Home folder. In this case you'll be the only one to have access to the software installed. I'm quite sure not all applications support this, and application updates might not succeed.
Which brings me to a question: you talk about "guest accounts": what is the purpose you created them? If it's just to discover the world of Mac OS X, do enable login on a Mac OS X Guest Account: good riddance of the stuff they created when they log out. If it's a bit more don't hesitate to share your thoughts. Note that these forums are in general very helpful.

My brother ordered a W520 with the 1920x1080p screen option. He has two Dell 20" (1600x1200) monitors from years ago, which have DVI & VGA connectors.
Can the W520 run in triple display mode, with built in display, one monitor hooked up with VGA cable, and the other monitor hooked up with Displayport to DVI cable?
Or does this require some kind of dock? Or at the very least, can it run on two monitors with the lid closed?

NVIDIA OpenGL driver lost connection with the display driver
Alienware M14x Laptop
Windows 7-pre 64-bit
8gb ram
3gb Video: NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M
Intel i7 2760QM
AE CS4
AE keeps crashing. I get the following message while doing something as simple as scrubbing through the timeline, or changing opacity of a layer. in 1080p, I have a picture layer, a solid, some color corrections, and that's it. i just got this new computer and i have never had this problem on my old computer.
this message appears after AE crashes."The NVIDIA OpenGL driver lost connection with the display driver and is unable to continue. The application must close."
this message appears in the taskbar: "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver NVIDIA Windows kernel Mode Driver, Version 267.21 stopped responding and has successfully recovered"
any ideas on how to stop AE from causing my display driver to stop working?
Thanks, Ramzi RebeizFor anyone picking up this thread (it's probably too late for rrebeiz40 by now!) I have come across a simple but apparently very effective tip that has solved the 'OpenGL driver lost connection' issue for many people using various NVIDIA with various Adobe progs (incidentally a lot of these seem to crop up on Dell machines, especially Notebooks).
(It fixed my issue with Premiere Pro CS4 - GeForce GT 555M on Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit, Dell XPSL702X).
It's posted on http://forum-archive.developer.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=5331&st=40 (look for the last post, No 50) as follows:
THIS FIX APPEARS TO WORK...found on an Adobe forum
"This issue led me to this fix: go to NVIDIA Control Panel --> Manage 3D Settings --> Global Settings, and switch "Power Management Mode" to "Prefer Maximum Performance" (the default "Adaptive" setting seemed to be the culprit). And that's it! The key here is changing the "Global" setting, as my individual programs were already set to "Prefer Maximum Performance." I can cause the error to reoccur by changing back to "Adaptive."
Otherwise lots more ideas on this site: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Fix...Nvlddmkm-Error/
My PC has been running for 2 days now. I only put the top fix in for now. Feel happier I have more options if need be though.

Analysis Authorization based on Hier node with multiple display hierarchies
Hi guys - I've got a problem where s.o. might have an idea of how to switch on the light at the end of the tunnel, I am currently standing in:
Requirement:
Cost Center Authorization should be given through RSECADMIN, reporting should be possible for any hierarchy that exists for the authorization relevant info object.
Preferred solution:
The Cost Center Analysis Authorization should be given through RSECADMIN - Hierarchy node assignment.
u2022 A dedicated Authorization Cost Center Hierarchy will be maintained in ECC6 as an alternative cost center hierarchy and extracted into BW.
u2022 The RSECADMIN Hierarchy node assignment should be based on a particular node (Type 2).
u2022 The display level will be specified as required (here: Level 7)
u2022 The Authorization granted should be independent of hierarchy name and version (validity 3).
Reporting Scenario and technical impact:
As mentioned above, when designing and running a query the user should be able to freely select other (i.e. than the authorization) display hierarchies for the authorization relevant reporting object 'Cost Center' as well. The technical names of the semantically relevant hierarchy nodes could therefore vary. E.g. cost centers 1, 2 and 3, being assigned under hierarchy node u2018Au2019 of the RSECADMIN relevant authorization hierarchy, could be subsumed by hierarchy node u2018Bu2019 in another display hierarchy, which the user may want to display in accordance to his reporting needs. Ideally, the alternative display hierarchy should therefore display node u2018Bu2019.
My findings so far (based on prototyping) turn out that this is not possible as long u2018Bu2019 (and its hierarchy) is not authorized in RSECADMIN. Can these findings be confirmed? And if not, would anyone have an idea of how to facilitate the reporting scenario?
Would there be any other way to grant access, possibly based on RSECADMIN single values, and also enable the user to flexibly display hierarchies with only those hierarchy nodes whose single cost center values the user has been given access to?
Thanks everyone for your input...
Claus

On Jul 14 2009, you wrote in SDN and said:
FYI: Found a solution...
The hierarchy analysis authorization will be based on a navigational attribute of cost center.
With analysis authorizations it is possible to declare the Auth object (e.g. 0COSTCENTER__RACCAUT0) as authorization relevant and leave the superior object 0COSTCENTER auth irrelevant.
The auth will be given for 0COSTCENTER__RACCAUT0. This object will be placed as a filter of the query, being restricted by an Authorization variable for hierarchy nodes.
Due to the concept of Analysis Authorizations, this variable will automatically pick up the nodes granted as part of RSECADMIN Hierarchy based Authorization.
As mentioned above, 0COSTCENTER as the regular reporting characteristic remains auth irrelevant and can therefore take any hierarchy thatu2019s available. Reporting on single values will be possible, too. Only those nodes show up that hold the authorized cost centers in accordance to the authorization.
If the auth relevant 0COSTCENTER__RACCAUT0 is not used in the query definition by either not taking it in as a filter or skipping the Auth variable, the query will launch the message that the authorization is missing. No data show up at all.
Claus
See this thread:
Analysis Authorization based on Hier node with multiple display hierarchies
I am also in the same situation as you and need to understadn your solution. I understand that you created a Nav Attr on 0COSTCENTER and made this auth relevant whilst ensuring that 0COSTCENTER is NOT auth relevant. This is all fine. The issue was you have multiple hierachies for 0COSTCENTER, how did the new Nav Attr help you solve your issue. When loading 0COSTCENTER what values did you load ino the new Nav Attribute and how did that link to the hierachies? Also, in RSECADMIN you created hiearchy nodes based on the Nav Attribute but I am confused as to what values you have in the Nav Attr.
I appreciate if you can share your solution from the past in more details.
many thanks -
