I looked through the Arch Wiki and I don't feel like it goes over how to set up the ethernet and I couldn't find much in Google. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

  • Fascinate won't start unless plugged in

My Samsung Fascinate won't start unless plugged in. Even with a full battery. It shows a dead battery and won't start.

How old is the phone/battery?  I would order a new, OEM battery from an online retailer (usually inexpensive, fast delivery) like cellularaccessories.com or batteries4less.com and see if that fixes the issue.  Batteries do wear out....

  • Phone won't start unless plugged in.  No phone or internet service

On my 4S the phone won't start unless plugged in.  Once plugged in it shows 100% charged.  If I unplug it it will go dark and no button works.
Once plugged in and the phone is on it keeps searching.  I receive no phone or internet service.  After awhile it will dim and then go dark.  Have to reset to get it back on.  Each time, it goes to 4PM and 12/31.  Can go through apps, but no sound (music for example).
Anyone have these types of problems before.

Sounds like its broken. Take it to an Apple store for replacement, as its still in warranty. Make an appointment first. http://www.apple.com/retail

  • G4 won't start unless from a restart or pmu reset

my G4 won't start unless from a restart or, if the computer has been shut down, I have to reset the pmu - with inside button or by removing battery.
Can anyone think of why this happens? What goes on with a shut down that doesn't with a restart? With the problem, nothing happens after the chime and I must hard shut-down, unplug and reset pmu, then it's fine.
Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.

well, I can't find anything wrong with it. maybe my logic board is shot. i guess i'll take it in to tek serve or an apple store and see if they can figure it out.
    thanks for the suggestions, tom.

  • Can I connect a 4 TB USB drive to the airport extreme and use it as a network drive for Time Machine

Can I connect a 4 TB USB drive to the airport extreme and use it as a network drive for Time Machine

Yes, if the drive is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
The USB port on the Time Capsule is under powered, so you may need use a powered USB hub with the 4 TB drive...even if it has its own power supply.

  • Music won't play unless connected to power source/charging

Music will not play on my iPhone 4S unless connected to sync cord and the sync cord must be charging.  The battery is full.  I had an issue before with the music starting/stopping sporadically  and the iPhone not recognizing when headphones were plugged in.  That seemed to resolve itself once I updated the software.  Now this....  If I disconnect from sync cord/power supply, the play button on the screen gets glitchy and the music stops.

    This sequence works:
turn on the power source (e.g. Logitech portable speakers)
power on and connect iPhone to power source via 30-pin to Lightning adapter
    connect the earphones
    start Pandora

    Hello Frank,
We have found the solution!! It was  indeed the instal of FinalCut Pro that made this error for Aperture. So we have found another forum that said the issue is indeed Final Cut Pro http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3528
So after installing the Os X combo update it works fine now! We are so happy that these forums exist.

  • Imac won't start unless unplugged for hours

OK, a little history (I'm not sure if it's related, but here it is):
About 2 months ago, I started having trouble getting the computer to wake from sleep. Then, it started having kernel panics. Then, it wouldn't consistently start, and finally would give me the 3 beeps on start up, indicating the RAM was bad. So now, with the offending RAM removed, here are the symptoms:
The iMac (24", late 2007) will sometimes spontaneously shut down after a couple of hours. It cant' be restarted unless I leave it unplugged for several hours. I thought it might be a heat issue, so I downloaded smc fan control, ran them up around 2000-2500, and put iStat Pro on. The temps all stayed below 55C. When I go to turn it on, if shorter than the several hours, I can hear the optical drive make a little sound (I think that's what it is) and then absolutely nothing else happens. Also, once it shuts down, if I leave it plugged in for those several hours, it still won't start. Also of note is that I am not doing anything intense - just some email and Word writing. Anyone else experience this and have any solutions? Or other questions to help me diagnose it?
    TIA.

Try running the Apple Hardware Test to see what it throws up, you might also boot from your install disc and use Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
However, it does sound like a power supply problem, look in User>Applications>Utilities>Console and check the system log for any notations about temperatures.

  • Xperia Z won't start unless plugged in!

Xperia Z does not start unless plugged. After plugging it, it does switch on, and once I unplug it, it shuts down and will not restart. Tried force restart and force shut down. When unplugged, Sony logo shows up n then nothing.

Hi @RDr You can try to connect your device to a wall charger and then press and hold power & volume up for more than 10 seconds. Let it charge for 2 to 3 hours. Also you can try by plugging the usb cable as you hold volume down. Check these links: http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/03/17/guide-to-installing-xperia-lollipop-using-xperifirm-and-flashtool/ http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/The-software-update-collection-topic/m-p/348066#U348066 http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/
I hope can be useful. I'm at disposal for any question. Best Regards,

  • Itunes won't start unless a cd is in the cd tray.

    Hi all,
I have moved last week from WinXP to Windows 7 and since then iTunes (the last version, 9.0.1) refuses to start, unless I have a cd (data or music doesn't matter) in the cd tray. The error that I get says:
"Quick Time not found. Quick time is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes , then install iTunes again"
Of course Quick Time is installed (combo package with iTunes).
Anybody has an idea about what's happening??
    Thanks in advance for help.

Thanks Harv55, but I have already done this twice and nothing happened...
I have even installed separately Quicktime but this didn't help either.

  • G4 MDD won't start up after new memory and DVD drive Install

After watching an online video demonstration on how to add RAM and install a new DVD drive in a G4, I decided it was something I could do myself. It all seemed to go well, but after I put it back together and plugged it back in, the light comes on when I press on the power button, but the computer won't start up.
I'm running 10.4.? and I just installed an extra 512 MB RAM and a Samsung DVD+R in the lower drive slot. I also looked at some other posts/threads and decided to reset the PMU button. -No change after that.
I'm trying to get this computer in working order to pass onto my mom when I visit her next week.
    Any suggestions?

I have had some of the same problems that you have experienced. I have a dual 1.25 g PowerMac w/ 2 g of ram, the Superdrive, and 4 separate drives. My main boot drive was a 160 GB WD Caviar. I also had a 160 Maxtor and (2) 120 GB WD caviares (the 120s were raided for video. The 160 WD started giving me some problems so I decided to replace it with a 500 GB WD Caviar Blue. I installed it in the machine and initialized it. I left the jumper on the drive in the cable select position. I tried to backup using Carbon Cloner and kept getting and error on one file. I re-initialed the drive to make sure it was wiped clean. I then started to back up the old drive file by file. I kept getting messages saying the drive was full. THat wasn't true as there wasn't anything on it. After several attempts to move files, I decided to put the machine back together without the new drive.
Now the real fun begins. I had trouble with the machine booting. I zapped the PRAM and did everything I could think of to get it to boot. It wouldn't so I figured it was something I did. I let the machine sit for a day or two to give me some time to calm down. I read some articles in this support section as well as some articles on several sites I could find. The machine would not only not boot but it would not even beep. I opened the machine up and tried to clean out some of the dust in it. hen I removed the battery and let it sit for a few hours. Then I held the PMMU button on the motherboard in for a long 5 seconds. I put the battery back and waited an hour or so. I tried to start the machine and got nothing. It doesn't beep but the monitor lights up as it thinks the machine is on. I've all but given up on the machine.
Now I know this is long but I have another problem. I took out the 160 GB WD boot drive and used one of the external devices called an Ultradock v4 to connect the drive to my G4 Powerbook. I used Carbon Copy Cloner to back my 160 WD boot Drive to an external 750 gb Maxtor drive that is partitioned into 3 drives. I backed up the 160 WD Boot drive to it. I didn't pay attention to how much space was used on one of the partitions. I then backed up the Maxtor to the 500 gb WD Caviar Blue. The original WD 160 gb drive took up about 197 gb on the Maxtor which in turn took about the same space on the new WD 500 gb Caviar blue. I am at a loss as to why more space is taken up by backing up from a 160 gb drive to a roughly 225 gb partition when it was less than 160 used originally.
    Any ideas?

  • Mini doesn't always connect  bluetooth and external (USB) drives on boot

I have had a new Intel mini for 4 months now (we also have a PPC G5, which we love). In the last few weeks the mini started to not connect my Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, nor recognize some of my USB peripherals when booting up. When this happens, it also makes a repeated "startup sound - bong!" echo when the start button is pressed. I have two external USB drives, one 500GB Phantom and one 500GB WD MyBook. When the Apple logo appears at boot, I can see the activity lights flashing on the drives as the BIOS interrogates the USB connections, but after the Leopard start up desktop appears, the only drive shown is Macintosh HD, the mouse pointer is at the top left of the display and will not move, nor will the keyboard do anything. I have read every post on this subject and tried all of the resets suggested. Sometimes this works after a few attempts, sometimes it takes 6 or more tries - disconnecting all cables, and turning the computer on again and again. Occasionally the WD MyBook drive appears on the desktop, yet still the Bluetooth is unresponsive and the other drive absent. I am getting frustrated having to disconnect everything and trying to boot this thing up, sometimes for one hour or longer before I can use it properly (all of my work is on the external drives).
There MUST be a firmware update for this by now, because I see that I am not the only one experiencing these problems, and this is obviously some problem with how the BIOS is communicating with the bus.

    Hi amyta pdx-
I'd be careful jumping to conclusions or the troubleshooting process may get clouded. For one thing those WD drives are junk and most people using them eventually have problems.
What happens with everything disconnected from the Mac except a mouse connected to a USB port on the Mac and the monitor connected to the video port only?
    Luck-

  • My macbook won't start unless I connect an external keyboard and monitor

Basically after I turn it on it starts and then goes into sleep mode, the little light on the front indicates it is sleeping, if I try to wake it it doesn't. However if I hookup an external monitor and keyboard it starts up fine, but I can't unplug it from the external stuff unless I use something like insomniax and even then the mouse pad clicker doesn't respond (only the keyboard and trackpad itself). I suspect it has something to do with the sleep sensor but don't know where to look for that. I actually read something that indicated the batter connector is also the sleep sensor and I replaced it, but still no good. Does anyone know how the sensor works and where it is?
Any help would be most appreciated.

Had the exact same thing, only mine had a X in the battery symbol, did the SMC reset, fixed it, happened again, replaced the battery, same wash/rinse/repeat cycle.  Have you recently upgraded to Mavericks?  I did and my issues started happening afterwards.
