Aperture won't update to 3.6 under Yosemite

I updated my computer this evening to Yosemite, and all of a sudden Aperture does not work.  So, I see that there is an update available for Yosemite compatibilty, and when I go to update, I get the following error:  And this was a legit copy of Aperture that I bought way back when 3 came out (actually it was an upgrade from v2)... Any ideas?

OK, here is the solution that worked for me... a total pain in the rear, but hey it worked and I'm back in business...
- Download the latest version of OSX (prior to Yosemite) that you can from the App Store (once it downloads it will tell you it can't install, that's ok, we just need the installer)
- Download and install VMWare Fusion from www.vmware.com (they have a free thirty day trial).
- Once VMWare is installed, it will open up a wizard for creating a new Virtual Machine. Choose "Install from a Disc or Image" and then in the next screen, choose "Use another disc or image" at the bottom of the screen, then navigate to the "Install OS X Mavericks" which is now in your Applications folder.
- Once you have chosen this and clicked next through the next few wizard screens (asking where you will place the VM, etc) you will begin the MAC install on the Virtual Machine which takes about 30 mins or so.  Once it is up I logged in with my apple id that I am using on my main machine (we are trying to map our aperture license to our apple id)
- Go grab a coffee, beer, glass of whiskey and wait.
- Once the install is complete and you are up and running on your Virtual Machine with Mavericks (which is the version i installed, but previous versions may work as well), now it is time to install Aperture on your Virtual Machine... You may have to map your CD drive with the installation media to the VM... Go to the Virtual Machine Menu, then select CD/DVD and then "Connect CD/DVD".
- Once Aperture is installed on your virtual machine, now go to the app store in the VM... Aperture won't be listed as an application to update "surprise", but if you scroll to the bottom of the page you will see a link for Incompatible software, click it and Aperture will show up... Now click Aperture in that list and it should bring you to the Aperture product page... on this page click "Update".  It will then tell you that 3.6 is not available to run on your operating system, but it can install the latest possible version of the application.  Confirm this and let it update.
- I opened aperture on the VM, but not sure that this is necessary.
- On your Yosemite installation, now go to the updates in the App Store and attempt to update Aperture... once I had updated the Aperture on my Virtual Machine, I was now magically able to update the Aperture on my Yosemite installation and it works (at first the icon on my tray didn't update, but clicking on it brought Aperture back up again!)
I hope this helps... this really put a scare in me last night and I've been trying to find a solution... I didn't want to roll back to a prior version of OSX just because I couldn't access my 500+GB of photos :-)

  • Aperture won't update from 2.1.2 to 2.4

I've downloaded the Aperture 2.4 update two times, but it doesn't seem to update after my computer is restarted. It still says that I'm running version 2.1.2. When I select Apple>Software Update, it indicates that all my software has been updated.
I'm trying to get the 2.4 update because I need Aperture to accept my Canon 50D RAW files.
Anyone else have this problem or have a solution?

I think you are confusing the +Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 2.4+ with a new version of Aperture.
The latest version of Aperture is still 2.1.2.
The raw compatibility update will not change the Aperture version. The raw converter update is independent of Aperture and can be installed even if you do not have Aperture installed. Raw files can be viewed in the Preview application - and the raw update covers this functionality too.

  • Aperture won't update Photo Stream

I have downloaded Aperture 3.2, and have moved to iCloud.
When I take photos on my iPhone, they appear very quickly on my iPhone and iPad in the "Photo Stream" album of the Photos app.
It seems they only show up in Aperture if I go to the preferences, and disable Photo Stream.  Then when I re-enable Photo Stream through the same preference dialog it updates, and all my pictures then show up.
How often is it supposed to update in Aperture, and why does it only update when I disable and re-enable Photo Stream in the preferences?

I have the exact same issue as briansp.
To see if Photo stream really works in Aperture... I was a bit cheeky and walked into an Apple Store and set up my iCloud account on a MacBook Air...  I then launched Aperture on the Air...turned on Photo Stream... and then I took a photo on my iPhone and it worked perfectly. It appeared in Aperture like it should.
So it's either something to do with my WiFi network at home, or maybe I need to uninstall Aperture on my Mac and reinstall and see if that fixes it.
    Either way it's annoying.
But at least I saw it work in the Apple Store.

  • Aperture won't save the serial number under Snow Leopard

When purchasing the unibody MBP17 in the last month, had Aperture (2.1.4) pre-installed. Worked fine under Leopard, no problems. Upgraded to Snow Leopard this past Friday and when launching Aperture, the program never has the serial number filled in. I have to enter the serial number each time I launch the program.
Anyone else notice this problem? If so, any ideas on how to solve it?
    Thanks in advance
    Roger

Yeah, I've discovered I have the same problem. Sorry to say that I haven't discovered a solution.

  • Aperture 3.6 locks up on lunch under Yosemite

Aperture 3.6 locks up when lunched, I see the Aperture desktop (minus all photos) and the only thing happening is the spinning colour wheel.
I have to do a force quite to exit the program.  I am running Yosemite 10.0   Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks. --Brian

How long are you waiting before for quitting Aperture? Aperture needs to upgrade the library, and that can take a long time. Let it run.
Also, the first few times after the upgrade it will take longer before you can access the menus.
Several users reported that they had to wait at least 40 seconds after each launch, after the initial library upgrade completed. And that background processing will be done, slowing Aperture down.
Let Aperture get the background processing done without interrupting it.
From Aperture's Release notes:  Aperture 3.6 Release notes
Keep in mind that fully upgrading a very large library is a one-time process that can take a long time; the process may take many hours or even overnight, depending on the size of the library.  Once the initial database upgrade is complete, you can begin working with your Aperture library. However, post-upgrade processing will continue in the background for some time, as face detection and preview generation are performed. (A progress indicator and the word "Processing" will appear in the status line of the Viewer or Browser to indicate these operations are underway.) While you can work with Aperture while these operations are performed, you may experience temporary slow-downs. Optimal performance will return when all post-upgrade processing is complete.

  • Is there a max size aperture library? Mine is over 800g and crashes, won't update to vault

Is there a max size aperture library? Mine is over 800g and crashes, won't update to vault

yes, all three steps, more than once. (problem started on old computer. continues on new.  Lots of HD space.  vaults fail to update on various HDs.  I just tried a new tack- turned off photostream and FB updates.  I'll restart and try again.
During the year, did usual upgrades.  Started using scanning software, adobe acrobat, Hazel, Alfred this year.  Citrix to call into work network.  Cloud storage with Microsoft, iCloud, Snapsugar.  Who knows what might have done this!
leonieDF, I just noticed you are in Hamburg.  My son just moved to Stuttgart this week (from US) to start grad school in Computational Linguistics.  I hope all the computer geeks there are as helpful as you have been! Thanks Mark

  • Aperture 3.1.1 won't update-help-

when I try to run 3.4.4 updaye get error message that aperture is not installed

Aperture needs to be installed in the systems Applications folder and named Aperture for the update to see it.
If it is in amy other folder (even a subfolder of Applications) or if it is named something like Aperture3.1.1 the update won;t work.

  • Aperture 3.5 won't update to 3.5.1

I have two machines with Aperture installed, one updated just fine but the other does not see the update to 3.5.1 in the AppStore.
    Any ideas anyone?

Yes both machines run 10.9 and logged in to the MAS under the same Apple ID.
The answer to your other suggestions is yes, I'd already tried to reload the updates and logged in & out of the MAS several times. The app was just called Aperture.app in the Applications folder.
I tried your suggestion about changing the system language to US English but it made no difference nor did anything change when I reverted to my normal language settings.
In the end I had to delete 3.5 and re-install Aperture.app, the version is now 3.5.1.
    Thanks for the suggestions.

  • Aperture won't open after updating iPhoto

I have been running Aperture 3.3.1 for months (and using Aperture since v3.0) on OS-X 10.7.5 (and a few previous versions) without a hiccup. In a comedy of errors a couple nights ago while trying to AirPlay a project on my Apple TV, I launched iPhoto instead of iTunes and fell for the request to update iPhoto. That update in turn asked to update my library which I unfortunately approved. Now when launching Aperture I get the following warning:
Opening Aperture by holding the Option and Command keys while clicking on the library file works and I have tried all three options (permissions, repair and rebuild), but Aperture still won't open from the dock. The images I displayed with AirPlay were added after the iPhoto update fiascso, so if I restore from Time Machine those edits will be lost. At this point that isn't sounding so bad. Am I down to that as my best option? Thanks.

At this point you have two options, roll back the Aperture library or update Aperture.
I don't see a downside to updating Aperture so unless there is some other reason why you don't want to or ca;t update that's the way to go.
If you can't or won't update you'll have to restore the Aperture library from your backups and loose the recent edits.
    regards

  • Aperture 3.4.5 won't update

This error keeps coming up when I try to update my Aperture from 3.4.5 to 3.5.1. I am doing this in the App Store by searching for Aperture and seeing that an update is available.
"Sign in to [email protected] to update applications for that account."
It doesn't help when I sign in, the same error comes up.
I am working on 10.8.5 and do not want to update to Mavericks for this as I am working a job on the road. I need Aperture to be updated though so that the libraries I am using function properly between my bosses Aperture and mine. The library file we are trading back and forth needs "updating" over and over and I am not sure how this will work when I bring it back to my computer and version of Aperture.
PLEASE help me get this thing updated.
When I copy the update link to a new page in safari I see that there may be a compatability issue. Compatibility: OS X 10.9 or later
Wish the error message was better...is there any way to get the last update possible that works for OSX 10.8.5?

Aperture 3.5 and later require OS X Mavericks to run.
Until you upgrade to Mavericks, Aperture 3.4.5 is the latest version you can run.

  • IWork '09 won't update under Yosemite

I just updated my Mac Pro from Mountain Lion to Yosemite.  I expected to see the new, Yosemite versions of Pages, Keynote and Numbers appear in the Mac App store under Yosemite, but instead, I see an "Open" button, not a "Download" button, and when I press it, the old, iWork '09 versions open.  Similarly, when I search for "Pages" in the "Featured" page, I get an "Open" button, not a "Download" or even a "Buy" button.
How can I get the new versions?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions Craig
Glad to see you searched & tried most of the things I've suggested to others. I have only seen a couple of users (you being one of them) for whom updating didn't fix the problem. Most of the people complained of having problems opening or saving Office files.
Have you tried opening the apps in another user account? This could narrow down the issue to your user account or a system-wide problem. If they do work in another user account, go to HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences & delete the com.apple.iwork.pages.plist & then try starting Pages again. Repeat with the Numbers & Keynote plists.
System-wide issues could be a corrupt or duplicate font. Use Font Book to validate fonts & check for duplicates. Corrupt caches can also be a problem. You can restart in Safe Mode (hold down the shift key until you see the gray Apple screen) & then restart normally. This will clear a number of caches. Using a utility like OnyX (unfortunately not yet for Snow Leopard) to clean caches, logs, etc. can help.

  • Aperture won't launch. Once bounce in the dock, that's it

My Aperture has been updated to 3.2, running Mac OSX 10.7.2, 8GB or RAM on a MacBook Pro and when clicked-on Aperture's icond does one bounce then just stays still in the dock. The app won't launch, I repaired all permissions, restarted the MBP and tried again. The icon bounces once and quits.
    Oh Apple.

Finally got it to launch. Tried holding down Option-Command and starting, no luck, still only once bounce. Then tried trashing plist preference file from the Library, still only one bounce and no launch.
Finally went to file info and switched Aperture to 32-bit mode and it launched.

  • Apps on AppStore won't update apps. Everytime I hit update on one of the apps, it opens up that certain app and doesn't update it. Any ideas on what's going on?

The apps on my AppStore won't update. It gives me the notification on the App Store on the app, and when I check it and hit update, it just opens up the app. none of the apps will update because all they will do is just open the app. anyone know what to do?

As you can see when I go to my Updates page in the App Store, as an example you can see that Facebook shows an Update button. However, it's already updated and when I click update it simply opens FB.
If I open the App Store and search for Facebook, it shows the Open button next to it. This Updates page has a major bug.
And why does Chrome and Vevo still show up under the Updates page? Shouldnt they be under the Purchased section?
Im still on 7.0.6 but I highly doubt that is the issue as this wasn't happening up until a month or two ago. I thought nothing of it until so many people kept reporting the same bug/error. Has anyone found a fix for this?

  • Mediasource won't update ID3 tags!

"Mediasource won't update ID3 tags!? Please help! I have been using Mediasource 5 over the years to painstakingly get my mp3 library organized just the way I want it. I know that the Media Source track info is not necessarily the same as what's stored in the ID3 tag of the files themselves. I am trying to update the ID3 tags so that the info matches what is in Media Source. The good news is, I can right click on my database in CMS and there is an option to "Update Track Properties". Within this window are two options: one to update the ID3 tags to match MediaSource, and another to update MediaSource to match the ID3 tags.
So far so good, here's the problem. No matter which option you choose, it always does the latter of updating MediaSource to match the ID3 tags. ARGHH!! I've tried this over and over, trying both options, but no matter what I do, it's always copying in the wrong direction. That goodness I had backed up my database before doing it. I've tried both CMS 5.0.38 and the newer 5.20.23 but both have the same issue.
So is there any way to get Mediasource to take it's data and copy it over the ID3 tag data? Anyone know of a patch or other software that read the CMS database file and do this?

    2) Using the File>export button and clicking save in the CD drive is the correct way to put CD text onto the CD, right?
Preferences > Advanced > Burning (tab)
Under "Audio CD", check "Include CD Text"

    3) Would this CD text be able to be read by other people's Itunes?
CD-TEXT only allows capable audio players (portable CD players, certain car stereo CD players, etc.) to scroll that information across its display as the track is playing.
For other people's iTunes to be able to retrieve the track listing, it has to be first uploaded into Gracenote's database, once Gracenote processes the information.
