Aperture3.0.3 places

This is probably silly but I started using places on one of my projects and somehow restricted a subset of photos to one location for which I changed the name of the place. However, now I cannot get the other photos in that project to appear in my preview window, only those for which I changed the name. If I go to the places map for the all of the photos in that project, the map identifies all of the sites at which I took the photos on my iPhone but I don't how to tell A# to retrieve the photos. Also, when I highlight the project name under Projects, it indicates that there exists the entire set I imported. How do I get access to the other photos before I start playing around with the other 1000s of photos in my other projects. Help is most appreciated.

As recommended I went to the filter and unchecked "Area" and they all reappeared.

How to back-up Aperture3 libraries (on an external drive) to store in a safe place?

What is the best way to back-up aperture3 libraries to an 2nd external drive that provides a 2nd copy that I can use in case something bad happens to my original drive? Should I back-up the entire library package or just the vaults? What is the difference between the those two options.

Depends on whether you use managed-Masters or referenced-Masters.
Most important is to back up original image files before import into Aperture or any other images management application. I like Vaults for backing up the Aperture Library, and I use referenced-Masters to keep the Library a civilized size.
Mass storage is cheap. We need backups both on site (all hard drives fail) and off site (fire, flood, theft).

New Color Profiles not showing up in Aperture3

I've spent hours trying to get Aperture3 to see a new proofing profile with no luck.
We use WHCC (White House Custom Color) for prints and discovered we were using an out of date icc profile for their printer. No big deal, just download the new icc profile and drop it in the ~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ folder and... Nothing.
Here are the location's I've tried putting it with no luck:
~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/
/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/
/System/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ +(yes I know you're not supposed to put anything in here, but it usually works and is a good place to put things you don't want users to tamper with)+
Putting the profile in any of these locations, the ColorSync Utility sees it just fine, but Aperture doesn't list it at all. I've rebooted, restarted, rebuilt my Library and fixed permissions with no change. Is there a specific .plist file I can destroy that will let Aperture re-discover the profiles on the system?
As a side effect of this process, I moved the old proofing profile to my Desktop. After the now one didn't work, I tried moving it back to see if Aperture would see it... It doesn't anymore. Oddly enough, Aperture does see the display profiles we created for the laptop with our Monaco.

I had the same issue when playing with my Xerox Phaser 6110 profiled with colormunki. All software except Aperture (3.0.3) recognized the profile (Color Sync, Print dialog, Preview soft-proffing, even LR 3b2). I too tried all possible locations and none worked.
Then I opened the profile in ColorSync, and edited (Profiles -> Xerox... -> Open ->'desc' tag) Ascii and unicode descriptions to read aaa.icc and did a Save As aaa.icc and there it was, available in Aperture, too.
To my great disappointment the soft-proof feature in Aperture seems to be broken for some monitor/printer profile combinations, and is compatibly broken for printing from Aperture. What happens is the resulting image is way too degraded, even beyond the (admittedly crappy) photo printing capabilities of this printer.
IOW printing the same JPG via Preview and/or soft-proofing with the printer's profile yields way more consistent results. Totally unacceptable for a €200 piece of software.

Places doesn't show the map

I recently did the operator system update, and i put all my iphoto folder in an external hard drive. After passing everything back to my MBP, iphoto doesn't show the map in places. I do not know wht I did wrong.

I have the same problem as Samuel. I updated a few pics from iphoto to Aperture3. The first day I was able to set around 5 pics with no problem. But on the second day the map appeared blank. I do not have VPN, I checked my Lan and wireless, and tested in two different places but with no luck. I reinstall aperture3 and upgraded twice to 3.0.1 patch but still without solving.
Am I missing anything? I looked all the menus but I do not see any configuration for places section.

Aperture3 does not export sharpening

Hi,
I've been using Aperture3 for a few months now but only recenly got into more serious post-processing, especially using quick brushes including sharpening. I have just noticed that my sharpening adjustments are not transferred into exported copies, be it jpeg or tiff. I am working with RAW files from Panasonic FZ-150 converting them to tiff in order to apply noise reduction with Topaz plug-in and after that I apply all other adjustments including quick brushes in Aperture. Then I export from Aperture using JPEG - Original Size with Quality 12 and sRGB profile. The resulting JPEG files are not comressed (appx 9MB in size) but the images definitely lack sharpening. This is not a compression issue; if I turn sharpening off in Aperture the images turn identical to the exported copies. So this is definitely a problem with export.
Here is one example where the difference is especially noticeable because the original image was not very sharp in the first place. Yet selective sharpening seems to give very good results in Aperture; however the export version on the left does not contain any signs of sharpening.
I have found a few old threads about this issue but without any solution. I hope Aperture technical gurus are reading and responding on this forum and will be able to help. Has this been fixed? I really like selective sharpening in Aperture but what's the point if I can't share the results. Hope somebody can provide the solution.

Ok, and here is my third and probably last post. As I suspected after my analysis of 100% crops, exporting with reduced sizes actually helps to achieve very similar JPEG look comparing to the original version in Aperture. Here is an example with the same file from the previous two posts but using export preset "Fit within 1024x900" and Quality 12. The resulting jpeg output looks much closer to the original on the screen; any difference is purely attributable to the compression effect (the output file size is only 500k). So I guess this solves the problem - I will use smaller export size to make sure it looks close enough to the original for web sharing. Hope this thread will help other users in the future. If you have any other tips with regard to this "issue", please share.

Aperture 3 - Places doesn't show up??

Trying to tag my photos with Aperture 3 Places feature. I can search and tag pictures with location, but no map ever shows up. Just the grey background of the application.
Anyone has been able to find a solution to this problem yet?

Aperture 3 - Places doesn't show the map

just a quick question. I'm using Aperture 2 now, and thinking about moving to Aperture 3. I've downloaded the trial version to check out all the new feature. And i love it! Or boy...64bit support, curves.....:)
But one thing bothers me - when i've tried to use Places feature it's not showing any map. Just a white background. My photos have GPS coordinates (the same photos working fine in IPhoto). And i'm just wondering - is it a "feature" of a trial version or some kind of bug?
I remember i had the same problems with IPhoto after the initial launch of Places feature. But now it's working fine.
I'm on LAN connection at home (VPN). I guess that maybe a problem. I'll check other internet connection options as soon as i'll get to my studio.

Is it possible to use Aperture3 to edit a standard photo into a Na'vi?

I am considering buying Aperture3, but I want to know if it is possible to turn a standard photo into something resembling a Na'vi from the movie Avatar? That is do color swaps, alter the ears and eyes etc.

What you need to do that is Photoshop, The Gimp or a software like that.
Aperture has a lot of editing capabilities, but it's intended for photographers, not graphic artists.
However, in Aperture, you can choose to use an external editor for this kind of advanced editing and still keep the original and altered images in a unique, convenient, place.

Iphoto'11 new slideshow theme importing to Aperture3

I'm using Aperture3(of course, i've upgraded it to ver 3.1.3).
And i also finished to install iphoto'11.
But I can't use iphoto'11's new slideshow themes(like places, origami...) on Aperture3.
they are not in the list of slideshow themes.
i know they are supposed to be added automatically when i install ilife'11.
What's the problem on my mac?
Plus, I'd installed ilife'11 with installation DVD. is it a cause?
One more question. After installing ilife'11, there's still a purchase button on Mac app store.

My phone is not syncing properly, I wanted to add another playlist to it that I created on my Mac. I pluged in my phone and made sure the playlist I wanted to add was checked to be on my phone when I synced.
The playlist I wanted to add was "Country." It is clearly checked. I also wanted to add the "Recently Added" playlist, which I also checked before sycing. Currently, my phone only has the "Purchased" playlist and my "All Songs" playlist on it. When I hit sync, iTunes added another playlist automatically added another playlist to the list above and checked it. It was titled "ALL SONGS 1" and had ten fewer songs in it than the playlist I had created, "ALL SONGS" had. This playlist, however does not show up on my phone after syncing, nor does "Country" or "Recently Added." (Every time I sync, another playlist is created as "ALL SONGS 2, 3, 4, etc.") One of the songs (I have not, yet checked the other songs) that I purchased from within iTunes Radio shows up in the "ALL SONGS 1" on this screen:
But does not show up anywhere else. This playlist does not show up anywhere but the two screens above. The ALL SONGS 1 or 2 playlists do not show up here:
When I search for those song in my library, it shows that I do not have them:
But if I go to the iTunes store, I get the play button and not the price of the song:

"Summertime Sadness," one of the songs I bought from iTunes Radio, does not show up in the iTunes store under purchased "All" or "Not on This iPhone"
But, it does show up under "Recent Purchases"

Only what was on there before I started any of this. "Summertime Sadness" and the other songs I bought from inside iTunes Radio, do not show up in either of these playlists. Please, help me.

How can I make sure my history doesn't expire and that I can transfer over places.sqlite?

There's probably alot of questions on this subject asked already but I've gone over just about all of the possibly relevant ones that've been already asked and I still can't figure out what to do. I'm trying to move my complete history from an XP Firefox profile over to a Windows 7 profile on another computer. Do I just do it by copying the places.sqlite file within that XP profile over into my USB flash drive, then replacing the places.sqlite in the Winodws 7 profile with the one from the other one? And after the file's in the right profile will I be able to just view all the sites I viewed on the old computer on the new one's history dialog box? I only am transferring my XP history to my Windows 7 because I want to look at stuff several months back and it keeps expiring on me, even to the point of getting rid of a month of history a week or so ago. This brings me to my other point, I keep up fairly well with updating both of my Firefoxes but recently (and I think this was way, way after they updated the browser so the history isn't set to expire by days anymore) the history just isn't reliable anymore. My XP will not only expire older months of history faster and faster it seems, but individual websites at the end of each month will actually disappear as I view new ones, instead of it all staying in there and just expiring each old month as a whole. Also, random sites in every month scattered all over the list of URLs will just disappear, and random sites that I've only visited in the past couple days will insert themselves randomly into much older months of history, which makes it hard to figure out the URLs I've seen, this last one seems like a common problem from what I've read, and all of these problems seem to be slowly creeping into my Windows 7 as well when they were originally on only my XP. The thing is for a very long time my Windows 7 would keep every ounce of my history that I kept on it, unless of course I went through the Clear History process myself. Now it seems to be slowly deleting it and having all the other problems that I mentioned earlier. I've got 592 GB out of 931 GB that's free space on my Windows 7 that I want to transfer my XP history into, and my Control Panel System panel says I've got 8 gbs of RAM in total. If I need to get some other information on RAM mention how to do that if you could. So in total, how can I transfer my XP history over into my Windows 7 so I can view all the sites I viewed on my XP in my Windows 7 history panel, as well as view all the old expired and/or manually deleted history on my Windows 7, without worrying about whether it will expire itself while I'm viewing it and writing down the relevant URLs that I need to know about. If I can only keep all my history through installing an add-on, a link to a relevant legal add-on that'll work well on both operating systems would be appreciated. Thanks to all here. (:

Firefox determines automatically how many pages can be kept '''without affecting the performance.'''

Yes. As long as all your songs you lost have been Matched or Uploaded to iTunes Match you can download your entire library from the cloud.
It might take some time though

Cannot update while another user is connected to the company i have checked, there is no other user logged in, i could add other settings but the problem is only with Decimal Places
