Aperture3 - ND Grad Brush/Filter

Is there any way to do this within Aperture3, or is it a missing feature currently?
Cheers
Jonathan

There is about nine hundred ways to do this with varying effect.
Brush in Expusre or brightness, brush in curves, use the burn preset, do exactly the opposite and brush it out.

  • Oil paint filter for Elements

I downlaoded a trial version of CS6 and when it expired bought the much cheaper Elements 10. However, the dedicated Oil Paint filter I used frequently in CS6 isn't there in Elements. Had I have known this I doubt whether I would have bought Elements.
There is an Oil Paint filter of sorts in Elements but the effects are nothing at all like the dedicated Oil Paint filter in CS6, which gave amazing brush strokes and effects.
I've tried using the different brushes in Elements to get the same effect but to no avail.
Does anyone know where I could get this filter or something very similar?

Not sure if anything is available that is compatible with elements. You could try a Google search.
The nearest effect to oil painting in Elements is using the Dry brush filter and bumping up the texture slider, but it‘s otherwise limited in what can be done.

  • Pivot prompt 'All Values' problem

    Hello,
I got problem when go to the detail link report after I choose the parameter using Pivot Prompt.
I have Pivot Prompt named Grade which values : Grade A, Grade B and the default is All Values.
When I choose All Values, the table filtered properly , here is the table content:
    Performance Employee
    A 4
    B 7
When I clicking in Employee value in order to show detail report, then it showed no data, because the grade name filter show:
    Grade name is 'Grand Total'
Why if i choose 'All values' in pivot prompt it pass 'Grand Total' parameter to detail report?
what I must do to exclude this 'Grand Total'? I use
CASE WHEN "Dim - Grade"."Grade Name" = 'Grand Total' THEN '' ELSE "Dim - Grade"."Grade Name" END
But it not help at all.
    Regards
    Joe

  • BT Hub broad band light goes from blue to amber wh...

BT Hub broad band light goes from blue to amber whenever phone rings and temporarily drops internet.  After a short period of time it resets itself.  I use a VPN to work from home into office and it drops this as well which is very frustrating when on conference calls.
Spoke to BT last year and advised fit a high grade ADSL filter which we did and problem still exists
    Any ideas??

is there any reason you started a new subject for what appears to be the same problem a previous posts.  from previous the line is ok and broadband ok as long as you are not using VPN when phone rings - is that correct?

  • New to IMAC and some  programmes are locking up running slow

I know it sounds mad i have only been in love with my Imac for a year and still find some aspects of it confusing
I use adobe photoshop elements 6 and its always worked really fast but recently it has been running very slowly and a blue bar comes up saying loading brush, filter ETC
i have plenty of HD space on e the Mac something this is what it says
under the HD hard disc it says MAC OS extended (journaled)
    capacity 297.00GB
    available 270.63 GB
    used 27.15 GB on disc
would it free up more space if i deleted garageband and other applications i never use
how do you actually uninstall programes is it right you dump them in the trash then empty trash surely they are still stored on the IMAC some where
make it easy as i am not techy at all
    Andrea

Space on your internal hard disk is certainly not the problem. When you drag items to the Trash, you are right, they are not physically removed when you empty the Trash. Only the directory is updated to no longer point to the space occupied by the files. Still that is enough to "free up the space" as far as the user is concerned. If you do not empty the Trash of course you do not free up any space at all.
As for Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac suddenly running slowly, I wonder if you have done anything recently that is affecting your performance. Before you start PSE the next time, launch Activity Monitor and see if that tells you what process is perhaps grabbing most of the system resources, principally the CPU time.
Do you regularly restart your computer? Turning off the computer can be done frequently but it isn't necessary usually. However, if you are having problems, you might try a restart. Post back if your problems persist and tell us what other process is running at the time your response is slow?

  • Sync settings confusion ?

    Hi all,
I've been testing out the sync settings commands in Photoshop CC 14.1 on my Mac and have some problems getting my settings correctly transferred to another copy of Photoshop running on Windows. Presets such as grads, brushes etc seem to sync as expected, but I can't sync the following correctly:
    - Application preferences changes ( Interpolation method, History States etc).
    - Saved custom shortcuts.
    - Color Settings ( I get an error about common color engine when syncing on the Win machine followed by a crash).
    - Workspaces ( but I know this is in the pipeline).
Is there a complete list somewhere of what can be synced under the heading of 'preferences' ?
Is this likely to be related to the platform differences ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I don't have a comprehensive list currently.
I do know these items are not synced:
    1) Things that are machine specific, such as the items in the Performance section
    2)UI language and Font size
    3) The actual 'Sync Settings' settings
As you already mentioned we also don't currently sync:
    Keyboard shortcuts
    Workspaces
    Color Settings
    regards,
    steve

  • Picture goes blank when new grad filter or brush used.

When I attempt to use a new grad filter or adjustment brush in LR3.6 the picture goes blank i.e. totally black.  The history does not update and I can do no other edits until I Ctrl-Z or go to the grid pane or move to the next image.  I am running on Windows 7 64 bit and I have re-installed, twice, (repaired) using the latest downloaded LR3.6 off the adobe site.  I have done several integity checks which are successful and the problem occurs no matter what catalog I open, small or big.  However, my LR 4 beta works perfectly!?  This problem came out of the blue and the only software that I have installed on my machine recently was some Windows updates and Firetower which checks changes to my Startup processes.
    Alan

I have experienced this on my old machine running Win XP with 4 GB RAM except that my picture went totally white, not black. I think it happens when LR demands more memory than what is currently available.
To alleviate the problem you could try the following:
    - Increase your LR Cache size to at least 25 GB (by default it is set to 1 GB). Set Cache size in >Edit >Preferences >File handling tab.
    - Increase your page file, and - if possible - set your page file (a) on a different physical drive than where your OS resides, (b) on a different physical drive where your LR catalog resides.

  • Will Adobe be adding spot removal, adjustment brush and grad filter tools to lightroom mobile?

will adobe be adding spot removal, adjustment brush and grad filter tools to lightroom mobile?will adobe be adding spot removal, adjustment brush and grad filter tools to lightroom mobile?

We don't know (and anybody who knows can't say). It's an unanswerable question...

  • Increments Of 100 With Grad Filter and Adj Brush Using Scroll Wheel and Arrows

For Vista 64 bit and Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT driver version 7.15.11.6960,
both the graduated filter and adjustment brush change at increments of 100 or 200 using the scroll wheel or arrows for everything except exposure. Brightness goes from -200 to 0 to 200 while the others go from -100 to 0 to 100.

Seen that as well. Keyboard focus has been an issue for me on Vista x64 OS for quite sometime.Sometimes the arrows don't move in even increments on all the sliders for various adjustments.
In this case the arrow keys move either side of 0 to the maximum exent of the range. In this case brightness has a range of + or - 200 while the other sliders move = or - 100

  • LRCC - Resize adjustment brush WITHIN a graduated/radial filter

Easier to explain by detailing the steps to reproduce the issue:
    - switch to grad filter (M)
    - Zoom in (Z)
    - position the filter somewhere on the image
    - Use the "adjustment brush" tool within the grad filter (shift+T)
    - Use the mouse scroll-wheel to resize the brush.
The brush size changes as expected but the image also scrolls. This is not the same as the behaviour of the standard adjustment brush.
Is there a setting to turn this "feature" on/off?
    Thanks. Rob

Certainly is weird behavior. You should report the quirk here: Photoshop Family Customer Community

  • Grad filter local adjustments

It would be good if elements of an image, such as a building on the skyline, could be deducted from the effect of the grad filter using something like the negative adjustment brush.
It is possible to use a separate exposure-based local adjustment brush after the grad filter, but this is a single adjustment value rather than the graduated one that should really be used. It also turns the final grad filter effect into two, or more, unlinked actions, making re-editing more complicated.
The grad filter, as it stands, mimics the effect of the real-world filter very well, as a result, it also has all of the drawbacks of this device. It should be so much better in digital form.

    Agree.

  • LR5 's Adjustment Brush doesn't seem to work-does the New Radial Filter have priority?

So why in the world would I update Lightroom in the middle of a job.?
Before I was able to do in and touch up shadowy areas using (K) adjustment brush, but now it doesn;t seem to work. The radial brush does a good job for a defined area but for SPOT touching I have always used the the adjustment brush?
Is there a setting or am I missing something or is this a bug?

The presence of the Radial Filter in the tool set should have no effect on the Brush. It continues to work just as it always has. In fact, even if the RF is open (I sometimes hit it by mistake when I really want the Brush) and you click on the Brush icon, the RF closes and the Brush opens. If your Brush is not functioning properly, it is very unlikely that the RF is the reason. The usual first aid for any LR misbehavior is to close LR, remove the Preferences file from its folder and relaunch LR, allowing it to make a new preferences file. Not guaranteed to solve the problem, but worth trying.

In this episode of The Complete Picture, discover the power of making selective adjustments like dodging and burning, color corrections and noise removal using the Graduated Filter and Adjustment Brush in Lightroom 4. Note: although this video was recorded in Lightroom, the same techniques are available in Adobe Camera Raw in Photoshop CS6.

  • Lost black highlight associated to adjustment brush, radial filter, graduated filter [was: stupid problem]

lost black highlight associated to adjustment brush, radial filter, graduated filter and actions are showing up in small navigator window

    Hi Eric
    Thanks for your reply
I've had another look at it... whenever I have a negative exposure setting on the brush or gradient and apply it anywhere in the image it seems to affect the top end highlights throughout the image even if they haven't been clicked on.
It's just a small change but it is frustrating to lose highlight detail when you've worked hard to capture it in camera!
Look forward to hearing from you.

  • Graduated filter and Adjustment brush always use "last used effect"

In my workfow I mostly use opposite effects in the Graduated filter and Adjustment brush.
Lightroom maintains "least used effect" even when changing tools.
Is it possible that each tool retains its last used effect?
In my workflow I mostly use opposite effects when using Adjustment brush en gradient filter. Changing the effects wastes a lot of time when editing hundreds of images.

I agree that it would be nice if the individual tools remembered their own last used preset.
Unfortunately LR does not work that way.
