Apex 2.2: Recently used pages

Just saw that the View dropdown list on the Page Definition page now includes the 3 most recently edited pages as in http://img389.imageshack.us/img389/3492/screenshot001cm9.jpg
But I am not entirely clear on what actions cause a page to be added to that dropdown list.
Is that MRU number (3) a configurable option? That would be really nice.
Also, I have seen instances where a App Builder page (Page 2354 or some such high page number) was present in the list. Is this a bug?
Can someone from Oracle please shed some light on this?

Opening external links in the most recently used page

I'm having an issue where external links from Mail or elsewhere are always opening up in the oldest page, IE, the page that was opened first, rather than the most recently used page.
Normally, this isn't that big of a deal, except when the oldest page is minimized, and every time I open a new link, Safari open up that minimized page to load in a new tab.
Is there any way I can fix this?

You can't COMPLETELY remove it, but you can reduce it to one (1) item. Under Preferences>Documents
1 is the minimum and 10 is the maximum. Hard coded, no way to expand or reduce these limits.
The ONLY other option is to disable the "welcome screen" altogether under Preferences>General

Bug report: Recently used pages

The View dropdown list on the Page Definition page (4000:4150) seems to get confused after a while regarding the list of Recently edited pages.

I definitely don't have a page with that large number!
Not sure how to reproduce this, just keep using the Builder for a while, use that dropdown list to go to some page and after a while that large number shows up there.
Hopefully all these little bug-fixes will go into the upcoming 2.2.1 patchset.

Yes, I might have deleted some page. That shouldn't cause that dropdown list to show incorrect page numbers like that!

How to search recently modified pages in AEM5.6 using OOTB search component

Using OOTB search component how to list the result pages like the recently modified page should come first.(desc) i am not able to find an method in the Search.java also i cant extend the method since its a final class. Any suggestion will be of great help.

How to clean recent used fonts dropbox on Pages '09?

Hi everyone!
I've searched a lot but can't resolve this. I can't clear my recent used fonts on Pages '09. I'm not talking about the box opened with cmd+T, I'm talking about the dropbox next to the font size, bold, italic, etc.
I've tried to delete the com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist but it only clears the cmd+T box.
Could you guys help me?

This list is stored in Pages preferences file.
You may remove the entire array entitled : SFIFontCacheRecents
or remove some fonts items.

I got Pages to work now- there were two versions, one Universal, and one Intel- by moving the Universal to trash ( although I can't delete it) and moving Intel version to iWorks folder in Applications, it is now working. Doesn't explain why it didn't work though- the other MacBook pro 17 inch that could open all the Pages documents also has two copies of Pages as I see now....
I still however can't open Numbers documents on the MacBook pro 15 inch.... it is a Universal version of Numbers.

Virtually no businesses have Pages to be able to read .pages files.
Definitely not those with PCs, because there is no version of Pages for PCs.

If you have a PC, you don't have Pages on it. You can transfer Pages presentations to/from iCloud via http://www.icloud.com , however -- you just won't have an app on your PC to deal with Pages documents. Make sure that you have your iCloud account properly configured on your iPad.

How to create a recently worked pages panel

I want to create a recently worked pages panel on the left side on the zero page. This will allow users to go back to a previously open page, the last 10 links being maintained. Does anyone has some idea, where apex stores information about the recently opened pages.

How can i use these views in my application. Suppose i have a region in zero page, how can i have most recent viewed pages as hyperlink, so that when any user click on that link it navigates to specific page...thanks once again for ur help

APEX listener returns blank login page

APEX 4.2.2
APEX listener 2.0.2
Glassfish 3.1.2.2
Platform is 32bit Linux, Amazon EC2
I am reasonably certain that I have deployed apex.war and i.war correctly to Glassfish, and defined a virtual path and a database connection correctly.
When running Firefox on the EC2 machine, browsing to
http://localhost:8080/apex/dad1/
returns a login page no problem. But browsing to the external, publicly visible, address (I have to obscure the actual address, I'll use a.b.c.d) either from the hosting machine or across the net returns an empty page:
http://a.b.c.d:8080/apex/dad1/
This succeeds:
http://a.b.c.d:8080
I get the standard Glassfish page so I know Glassfish is listening on that address.
I have also tried starting the listener standalone, and I get the same effect: it returns a login screen when browsing to the localhost, but going to the external address I get a blank page.
The pages really are blank, nothing shows in the page source and this is all Firebug returns:

I have been trying to enable tracing of the request on the server side, but I haven't yet found a way to produce the equivalent of an access.log. Searching the forum did produce a couple of references to "routing rules" but I have been unable to find what and where these might be.
As the listener works perfectly when going to localhost, I cannot believe that rthis is the common problem of not finding imges, or an issue with url mapping. But I am of course open to any suggestions!

High Virtual memory usage when using Pages 2.0.2

Hey there,
I was just wondering whether there had been any other reports of unusually high memory usage when using Pages 2.0.2, specifically Virtual memory. I am running iWork 06 on the Mac listed below and Pages has been running really slowly recently. I checked the Activity Monitor and Pages is using hardly any Physical memory but loads of Virtual memory (so much so that the Page outs are almost as high as the Page ins (roughly 51500 page ins / 51000 page outs).
Any known problems, solutions or comments for this problem? Thanks in advance

I don't know if this is specifically what you're seeing, but all Cocoa applications, such as Pages, have an effectively infinite Undo. If you have any document that you've been working on for a long time without closing, that could be responsible for a large amount of memory usage.
While it's good practice to save on a regular basis, if you're making large amounts of changes it's also a good idea to close and reopen your document every once in awhile, simply to clear the undo. I've heard of some people seeing sluggish behavior after working on a document for several days, which cleared up when the document was closed and reopened.

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Note: Apple has removed over 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

Can I use Pages with more than one user?

Hi,
I recently purchased Pages and want to be able to use it with two different users (one personal, one business). Is this possible? If so, how? I have no problem using it with the user I purchased it with, but my business user does not the option for Pages in the launchpad. How can I use Pages across users?

Pages should be installed in the Applications folder at the top level of your hard drive to be available to all users of that Mac. By default, if you are logged in as an administrator, applications are installed in this folder. I haven't done it, but I understand that if you are not an administrator, applications are installed only in that user's applications folder.
My installation of iWork is from the retail disc from more than three years ago but I did check for an app purchased from the Mac App Store in another user account on my Mac & had no problems finding it or launching it from Launchpad. Launchpad can be very cluttered &, unless you take the time to organize it, it can be very difficult to find a particular application. I would suggest trying to launch Pages from a Finder window or with a Spotlight search. And keep the Pages icon in the Dock for easy access the next time.

How do I get the location bar drop-down list to show the most recently visited page at the top? I have no idea how it's deciding what to display.

In IE when you show the drop-down list from the location bar, it show you all of your most recently visited pages in descending order with the most recent at the top. Firefox is showing me a list that I have no idea where it's getting the pages from or how it's ordering them. It doesn't update the pages or the order when I go to a new page. I have recently switched from IE to Firefox and cannot figure out how to get Firefox to do this; very annoying.

That drop down list doesn't show recently visited pages, but shows list list of most visited sites sorted by what the Mozilla devs call frecency (frequency and recency) and is based on bonus points. It is not possible to have much influence on what shows on that list.
If you want a list of recently visited sites then you can use a smart bookmark e.g. on the Bookmarks Toolbar with the location set to this smart folder. 
Name: Recently Visited 
Location: place:queryType=0&sort=4&maxResults=30 
You need to close and restart Firefox to make that folder work as intended.

Using Pages in Word environment

I have a little problem. Pages is wonderful. I love it. The problem is, I work in a legal environment where only one copy of any give file can exist. I can't have multiple revisions of legal documents running around. While Pages will open a Word document, it does not keep the Word filename, nor can I simply Save over the original file I just finished editing. This is problematic in that I may end up having a couple of slightly misnamed files - you can imagine the repurcussions of that in the legal field. Does anyone know of a workaround, or a patch or something from Apple in which I can use Pages as my word processor of choice? I am currently stuck using that kludge called Microsoft Word.
Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Even though I did not ask the initial question, I have some comments to this.
There is no autosave in Pages. This means that you frequently have to make manual saves of your revisions.
In "native" formats you simply do ⌘+s after a major modification, and you know it's safely saved to the harddisk.
To "export" to Word you have to go File > Export > Choose format > Navigate to the right directory (or at least verify that you are there) > type the original filename OR select the right one of the many files in that directory. This is time consuming and error prone.
And as a minor point, imported documents don't appear in the recently used document menu.
Most of the Word documents I have are simple, and formating is no problem. However, the export procedure is. And that is one of my main reasons for not using Pages as my main and only word processor. Feedback has been left for Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/pages.html .
