APEX 3.1 upgraded

I just logged in into the online Oracle Application Express 3.1 hosted evaluation version.
I was surprised it got upgraded. The message says it got updated on January 7th 2008.
Now figuring out what has changed ;-)

  • XE Database home page gone after APEX 3.2 upgrade

I just upgraded the version of HTMLDB/APEX on my XE database from 2.0 to APEX 3.2. All went well, however, the database home page seems to have disappeared. When I go to Start|Programs|Oracle Database 10g Express Edition|Database home page, I now get the APEX start page. Does the upgrade blow away the Database Home Page?

    Hello:
This is expected. If you decide to upgrade the Application Express within your Oracle Database XE, you will lose the Oracle APEX interface to perform some of your database management functions. This includes the ability to create and alter users, set database parameters, etc. To perform these functions, you will need to use either SQL Developer or SQL*Plus.http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/3.0.1_and_xe.html

  • Apex 3.1 upgrade on 11g - Where do I copy the images to?

    Hi Everyone,
I've just installed Oracle 11g Personal Edition on my laptop, I have successfully configured Apex 3.0 and am now trying to finish off the upgrade to 3.1
(We are unable to upgrade to 3.1.2 yet, however this is scheduled for early in the new year - until this time we must continue to use 3.1)
I have run the install/upgrade to 3.1 successfully and have enabled the network services in 11g.
However I am getting stuck on copying the images over,
the documentation it says to copy into the ORACLE_HTTPSERVER_HOME\ohs\images directory
I cant find where my ORACLE_HTTPSERVER_HOME is set - can anyone please help to point me in the right direction
I have tried to search for the folder ohs on my hard drive, but can only find a folder called ohs_images
    (C:\app\oracle\product\11.1.0\db_1\oc4j\j2ee\home\default-web-app\ohs_images)
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Kind Regards, Michelle

    Hi Varad,
    Thanks for your prompt response.
I have run the apsldiimg.sql script to update the images directory - however it still does not seem to want to work for me! :)
When I run the script in SQL*Plus I get the following results
    SQL> @apxldimg.sql C:/ApexUpgrade
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    old 1: create directory APEX_IMAGES as '&1/apex/images'
    new 1: create directory APEX_IMAGES as 'C:/ApexUpgrade/apex/images'
    Directory created.
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    Commit complete.
    timing for: Load Images
    Elapsed: 00:02:35.39
    Directory dropped.
    SQL>
When I go to logon to Apex, either in the Admin or Workspace areas I am unable to login.
The page displays but the normal login images aren't displayed.
    Thanks, Michelle

  • ApEx 4: after upgrade, "when no data found" message on report not shown

I have a page that displays a tabular form. Initially, the table is empty, and so I have text in the "when no data found" block of the report attributes.
After upgrading to ApEx 4, this text is no longer shown when no results are returned. It displays the table header, but no rows. So for some reason, it thinks data is being returned -- even though the table is completely empty. I've tried several permutations, but have not been able to find a workaround.
I'll try to set up a standalone page, but I can provide a pointer to the existing page on apex.oraclecorp.com on request.
UPDATE: I think this may be related to the bug I reported on tabular forms.
Is it possible that the empty, hidden row we are adding now counts as a returned row, even though the SELECT statement returned nothing? And thus the report never thinks that there is no data found? This would also explain why it's displaying the table headers, even though no rows are visible.
Edited by: kswartz on Jul 8, 2010 12:18 AM

Interesting. I didn't see anything about this change in behavior in the Release Notes. Did I miss something? It definitely didn't do this in 3.2.
Overall, I think that's actually a very non-obvious change. Seeing a set of table headers with nothing below it looks to me like a mistake. Why would you ever show headers for something when you have no rows? In fact, I thought that was a bug the minute I saw it. With due respect, I don't think the new design is less desirable from a usability perspective than the old one.
It also doesn't work as you described regarding the proportions: in my case, the columns in the header row did not match the sizes of the columns as I defined them. Although I didn't place anything beside the tabular form, if I had, it would still alter the layout when "Add Rows" is clicked. If you know what the size of those columns is supposed to be (because they are text fields of size xyz, for instance), why wouldn't you define the header cells to use that information? You won't get it exact most of the time, but you can get close, if they're all text fields of specific width.
Plus, there's nothing on the Report Attributes tab that indicates the "When No Data Found" option won't apply if you are using a tabular form. The textareas should be disabled -- and at the very least, the on-line help should be mentioning this. It doesn't mention anything about this only applying to standard reports.
Finally, I think you should also put this in the Release Notes, because this requires changes to any application where someone with a tabular form required this. In one case, that was where I provided instructions to users entering data for the first time. Now I have to move it. (Not a big deal, but it would have been nice to know that in advance.) On another page, I put a JavaScript block in there to submit and automatically add a row, because I wanted there to always be a blank row if nothing had been entered -- and that was the easiest way. Okay, granted, that's probably not something you intended to support, but there was nothing wrong with it, technically. And, again, it's fixed by moving that block to the header instead and testing for the number of rows in the table -- easy, now that you provide JQuery for us -- but still manual migration work.
    Thanks for the explanation.

  • APEX 5.0 Upgrade from 4.2 successful but APEX doesnt work

    Hi,
I just upgraded to APEX 5.0 from 4.2.
The upgradeprocess is solved without mistakes.
But when i try to go to the adminpage (like http://apexserver/pls/apex/apex_admin ) the browser is getting this:

The Webserver is an IIS with Thoth-Gateway.
Anyone knows the reason of these errormessages?
    thanks,
    Marco

    Hi Maco W.,
The Webserver is an IIS with Thoth-Gateway.
Anyone knows the reason of these errormessages?
The upgrade is successful as it has nothing to do with Web Server, it just upgrades the database objects.
This maybe due to you are not using a Web Server recommended by Oracle.
        Refer : https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E59726_01/install.50/e39144/overview.htm#HTMIG367
There may be change in how APEX 5.0 handles the HTTP requests, which is not supported by IIS.
Moreover, the developer of Thoth-Gateway(Morten Braten) may have developed it keeping APEX 4 in mind.
Switch to Oracle Supported Web Server options given above, which will resolve your issue.
        Hope this helps!
    Regards,
    Kiran

  • ORA-06502: PL/SQL APEX 3.2 Upgrade problem

We have 2 APEX environments on our 2 servers. Both servers are running Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production.
One server was running APEX 3.0.0.00.24 (or thereabouts) and was upgraded to 3.2.0.00.27. The other server did not previously have APEX and so 3.2.0.00.27 has been installed as a new version.
We have a form that is filled in by the users. When they click submit the process adds an entry to a table, and then tries to send an email to our users as a HTML formatted email. The process creates a VARCHAR Variable and then using a cursor creates the text for the the email (including all the HTML tags). Running this process on the original server before the upgrade, but using the formatted email resulted in an ORA-06502: PL/SQL error. Creating an email that was a lot simpler (not html formated and therfore shorter) did actually work correctly.
I am lead to believe that there was a bug in Apex versions 3.0 that even if a PL/SQL VARCHAR2 variable was defined as 32000 characters it would actually only be able to use/store a lot less than that (1-2000 characters), and any attempt to use more would result in a ORA-06502: PL/SQL error (string buffer too small type message). I cannot seem to access Metalink at the moment so cannot confirm what the actual bug number is. I am also lead to believe that this error was actually addressed and fixed in one of the releases of APEX 3.1, and definitely in APEX 3.2.
So going with the advice that the issue had been resolved in APEX 3.2, I tried it out in the server with the brand new install. It worked perfectly. I then proceeded to try it in the server that had been upgraded to APEX 3.2.0.00.27. It fails with the same error as before even with the same data as used in the clean install.
Is there a file / setting / configuration somewhere that has to be changed so the APEX applications can use VARCHAR2 variable with more actual characters?

  • Apex 3.1 Upgrade Issue - dba_lock and date picker display

A couple of minor issues I've seen with my upgrade from 3.0.1 to 3.1. Just wondered if anyone else has seen them and if anyone has a simple fix for the date picker problem :
    1. DBA_LOCK - the upgrade process itself complains about the SYS.DBA_LOCK view not existing - easily remedied by running catblock.sql before you start the upgrade (but not listed as a pre-req)
    2. DATE PICKER display - I have a date picker item in a navigation region - before the upgrade the calendar icon happily appeared directly to the right of the date cell, since the upgrade the icon has moved to underneath the cell, messing up the look and feel. (Also the size of the pop up calendar doesn't quite fit its contents now and you have to resize to see the close and ok buttons )
Any confirmation that others can replicate the second issue or a quick fix would be very helpful.
    Many thanks,
    Rich.

    Rich,
    >> Unfortunate that something has changed between 3.0 and 3.1 then that will require us to change the formatting. Hopefully not too much work to sort out a form region that looks the same though.
I know the templates were revised for APEX 3.1, but that should not have affected existing applications. So you're saying that application used a Navigation Template before just fine without issues? I'll ask Carl to investigate.
    >> The issue of the default size of the pop up window cutting off the buttons at the bottom still remains in your example however. (obviously users can resize it but not ideal)
Well, that really sucks. The worst thing we can do is break the behavior of existing applications, and it appears we've done it here. I filed Bug 6864371 on this issue. We'll get it fixed in the very first patch set for APEX 3.1.

  • HELP: need to re-do APEX 3.2 upgrade

hi -- You've probably seen my recent posts regarding confirming that we're actually in a 3.2 development environment after the upgrade. I (developer) found out today from the DBA who did the install that he only ran apxrtin.sql (runtime installation) whereas we need the full development installation. Furthermore, when I checked the APEX status in dba_registry, it is UPGRADING (not valid). Almost all of the wwv_flow% packages are invalid. After doing some reading, here's what I think I need to do to re-do the upgrade from 3.0.1. Can someone please confirm?? I'm not a DBA (our DBA is not available right now), this needs to get done, and I'd like to have some reassurance that I won't do something I'll regret! (thanks).
    - Shutdown all other instances on the server
    - Backup the DB
    - Start instance to hold APEX, but w/o listener running
    Revert to 3.0.1:
    - images directory from 3.2 was not copied, so nothing to do there...
    - in sqlplus:
    ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA = FLOWS_030000;
    exec flows_030000.wwv_flow_upgrade.switch_schemas
    ('APEX_030200','FLOWS_030000');
    DROP USER APEX_030200 CASCADE;
(Is this all to do the revert and clear out 3.2? Maybe I should go ahead and shut down the http server...)
    Re-do the 3.2 upgrade
    - We're running oracle 10.2.0, and upgrading, so I assume we don't need to configure the PL/SQL gateway. I know we can currently connect
to our HTTP server and access the 3.0.1 development environment.
    - run apexins.sql
    - restart listener and other processes
    - copy the images directory
I think this is it... Am I right?
    Thanks SO much!
    Carol

Print to the Adobe PDF printer or use PDF Maker from within WORD. Of course, this assumes you own a license for Acrobat and have installed it.

  • APEX fails after upgrade to 3.1

I have installed 3.1 as an upgrade to 3.0.1. I am using APEX as a partner application with SSO. I re-ran regapp and all that stuff, and now I get the following error after I successfully login.
    Not Found
The requested URL /pls/apex/wwv_flow_custom_auth_sso.process_success was not found on this server.
What cookie version should I be using? 1.2 or 1.4
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Kris

    Kris,
In what schema is the SSO SDK installed? Wherever it is, you need to create synonyms and do grants as shown in the how-to: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/howtos/sso_partner_app.html .
As to cookie version, that may be something you can get from the registration step you do at the login server.

  • Date Picker shows displays wrong timezone after Apex 2.2 upgrade

After upgrading from 2.0 to 2.2, all date pickers in all applications now display the time in GMT instead of GMT - 7.
    For example: before upgrade 08/03/2006 9:00 -- after upgrade 08/03/2006 16:00.
The date and time on the server is set to GMT - 7. The database displays GMT - 7 in all other non-Apex apps.
I suspect there's a global preference that needs resetting, but I can't find it.
    Cheers,
    Jaime

    Hi Jaime,
What you are witnessing is a feature and not a bug. Shame on us for not making this change in behavior more prominent. But this feature ultimately emanated from the posting at:
    Re: Date Picker and timzone
In Application Express 2.2, if you are using a DatePicker, the current date and time will be computed based upon LOCALTIMESTAMP. LOCALTIMESTAMP is time zone aware. By default, it will use the database's time zone.
To control the user's time zone setting in your application, you could add a before-header application-level process (and, ultimately, another one on Submit) to issue a PL/SQL statement like:
execute immediate 'alter session set time_zone = ''America/New_York'' ';Note:
    1) Those are sets of two single-quotes around America/New_York, not double-quotes
    2) Obviously, you'd replace America/New_York with your favorite time zone. The full list is at:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14225/applocaledata.htm#sthref2012
As a quick demonstration, run the following block in SQL Commands on apex.oracle.com or your favorite APEX instance:
    begin
        dbms_output.put_line( 'LocalTimestamp Before: ' || localtimestamp );
        execute immediate 'alter session set time_zone = ''America/New_York'' ';
        dbms_output.put_line( 'LocalTimestamp After: ' || localtimestamp );
    end;
    /I hope this helps.

  • Apex 4.0 upgrade

Can I upgrade APEX from oracle 10 XE VER with apex 2.0 to APEX4.0

    Wednesday, June 30, 2010
Language Preference of the Application Development Environment in APEX 4.0
A customer filed a Service Request with Oracle Support, asking the following:
In Apex 4, Irrespective of the Client OS / Locale / Browser Language settings, the Language picked up the interface shows as “ Language: en “ . Where as from the same browser/client if I login into Apex.3.2.1, it shows the correct language as "DE" , "TH", "FR", etc.,
Has anybody seen this issue? Am I missing something?
This is expected behavior. In Application Express 4.0, the development environment uses the new "Session" language derivation, bringing it in line with modern Web applications which do not use the browser language as the primary language preference. This new language derivation type is documented briefly here and additionally in the item-level help.
If you go to the Login page of apex.oracle.com, you’ll see the language bar at the bottom. This language list is determined by the translated versions of Application Express which are installed in the instance. • Apex 2.1 upgrade to Apex 2.2

What steps do I need to follow to upgrade to Apex 2.2 from 2.1? I'd like to run the Online Store Demo and it fails in 2.1.

If you are on 2.1 that means you are using XE.

  • Oracle XE R11.2 DB Mgmt App not accessable after APEX 4.2 upgrade

I recently installed Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Release 2 (with APEX installed). Then went through the documented processes to upgrade APEX to R4.2. When I did that, I lost access to the APEX based GUI for managing the R11g XE database.
The "lost" application was reached by the URL http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex/f?p=4950
which now returns: Error Error processing request.
    ORA-01403: no data found
    OK
Does anyone know if it is possible to recover or re-install the original Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Release 2 "Getting Started" APEX application in this new APEX 4.2 environment? This would greatly speedup my DB management tasks so I don't have to find SQL statements for all DB operations.

  • Problems with apex 4.0 upgrade

    Hi,
I have a pretty large application build in apex 3.1.2 that comes up with sereral errors after upgrading..
First there is "popup key lov".. It cant return a value when clicked..
Then there is updateable reports. It doesnt seem to work at all.. There is lots of errors regarding that one.
What I was wondering is whether these problems will be solved in a patch or if we have to do it ourselves? It seems to be problems related to the template, so I guess it will be difficult to solve with patches?
The app is build from theme: Blue Gray - 13 *
We also use apexlib, which might also cause some of the problems I guess.

    Hi Patrick,
I know its not much im giving you. The thing is we have the app installed in a developer server and a production server, and both of these are now running 3.1.2, since we couldnt get 4.0.1 to work. The customer who has both servers didnt want us to use too much time on the upgrade, so we had to downgrade the developer server again.
So the following is only based on my memory.
It is correct what is written above that the LOV is corrected by removing the apex_lib js file.
when it comes to the updateable report I remember that the first thing I tried was to change some substitution variables in the Standard reports template. What i did was comparing the template to one of the new templates, and I saw some differences in the variable names. That did help some, but didnt solve all the problems. If I remember correctly, it made the add botton work again. And I beleive that a simple updateable report in our app started to work after this change, but the complex one didnt..
I also tried to remove the old updateable report and replace it with the new one in apex 4. There is some new functionality there (add doesnt submit page f.x.). What happened then was that NO errors was reported at all, but nothing happened either when I submitted the page. The new lines in the report simply disappeared.
After this the customer didnt want to spend any more time trying to upgrade, so we had to revert to 3.1.2. This was all done without the patch of apex 4. Then monday we tried upgrading again with the patch, and the problems seemed to be the same, so we quickly downgraded once again.
What I could try to do is give you some of the code for the problematic page, if you think you can use it for anything? I can also give you an export of the template if you want that. Its based on Blue Gray - 13 from the first apex 3 release (I think)
    Thanks for listening

  • Apex 3.1 upgrade trouble shoot

I have just successfully installed oracle 11g in my system. On upgrading to AE 3.1 i am encountering a lot of hurdles. I cannot proceed beyond the login screen. On pressing the login button nothing happens. The labels are in html format and the images are not being properly displayed. The installation has been done using the pl/sql gateway and not OHS. Pls help asap.

    Samd,
It sounds like you missed some of the post-installation steps, like running the apxldimg.sql script.
