ApEx 4 to Excel download - Numbers end up as Strings

Hello,
We are developing reports in ApEx 4. Some users will be downloading them to Excel to further play with the data.
We are formating some number fields (Sales, quantities, etc.) using 99,999,999,999.99 or 999G999G999G999G990D00.
Everything is great until we export report to Excel.
Number
'123,456.78'
is created in Excel with leading spaces:
' 123,456.78'
This prevents user from additional data manipulation like using it in formulas/functions or doing summaries since Excel doesn't recognize it as a Number.
It works properly if we use dollar sing in the format or we don't set the format at all.
Is there any way to set the format in Apex so that it download's properly to Excel?

Jan,
This is a common problem, if you are using an interactive report there is a pretty painless workaround for it.
1. Add another column to your report with the unformatted value of your numeric column. I generally use the <col>, <col>_DL (download) naming convention.
select to_char(12345,'999G999G999G999G990D00') the_number,
12345 the_number_dl
from dual2. Make the new DL column display before or after your formatted column.
3. Save the interactive report as default settings with this column displaying.
4. Make the display condition for your formatted column "Request != Expression 1". expression 1 = CSV
5. Make the display condition for your _DL column "Request = Expression 1". expression 1 = CSV
The DL column will be rendered when the interactive report submits the request to download the report to a file and the display column will be used when it is rendered to your web browser.

Thanks its working fine, but if i want to see the list of images the path which u have mentioned is possible to me...
as i had registerd in apex.oracle.com which is not instaled in your system..
so is there any other option.. in order to know the list of names of images icons.
for ex i need to delete a partcular file for that what kind of image i need to be mentioned in Link text...
and at the same time can we change the icon name i mean when ever we move the cursor on that particular icon it is showing as edit every time ..
instead of edit name can we change that name to say (download,delete..)

I believe you are referring to having installed APEX 4.0.1, our latest patch release which is now available for download. Apologies, but I'm not sure what you are referring to here.
As you are intending on converting your Oracle Forms application to APEX, I would recommend that you review our OBE (Oracle By Example), Converting Your Oracle Forms Application to Application Express 3.2: http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/obe/db/11g/r2/prod/appdev/apex/apexformmigr/apexformmigr.htm . Although the OBE refers to APEX 3.2, the steps are essentially the same for APEX 4.0. It provides a step-by-step guide of how to carry out a conversion. How to change folder location for Downloads

I want this folder to be on a different hard drive... is there a way?

True, you can copy the download folder's icon by selecting "get info" then clicking the icon, selecting copy, then selecting the target/desired folder for downloads, selecting "get info", clicking once on the icon and selecting paste.
However, this doesn't get you the uber-cool green download arrow in the sidebar.
Leopard really should have a preference in System Preferences for a default Downloads folder location...no matter the drive or location. I too prefer my downloads be directed to a different drive and had manually created "downloads" folders in my sidebars in prior versions of the OS.
As others have commented, the icons in Leopard for the special folders lack differentiation in both color and silhouette/shape, relying on those embossed characters that are a bit too subtle for my tastes...but that's just opinion.
Similarly, Leopard should introduce default browser and media app selection in preferences instead of requiring the launch of Safari or QuickTime etc.. It's an incredibly poor choice to bury preferences with system wide applicability in proprietary apps.

Create a report using the following SQL statement:
SELECT ID,
FILENAME,
CREATED_ON
FROM APEX_APPLICATION_FILES
ORDER BY CREATED_ON DESCThere are other fields available from the table, but the above gives you a start.
Then edit the report's Report Attributes.
Edit the CREATED_ON column and pick a Number/Date Format to use for the display and Apply Changes
Edit the ID column. In the Column Link section, enter:
Link Text: <img src="#IMAGE_PREFIX#download.gif" alt="Download">
Target: URL
URL: p?n=#ID#
Apply Changes and run your report

If I wanted to include apple loops in the assets of Logic project folders that are part of a song that follows a tutorial available for download on a paid educational website would that be ok? No one would be paying for the file itself that's part of the membership. I don't want to get into any copyright problems. I understand that they are royalty free and you can include them in your music no problem but the individual loops would be in the audio folder if I saved all the assets to the project file.
Also, would it be ok to include screen shots I take myself of apple programs in my downloadable content?
Just trying to figure out exactly how I should go about it to avoid any legal issues.

Firefox 24.0 does not update any YouTube page for the download extensions. Video aivalable for download is the 1th opened in the tab and not the video playing.

On YouTube, when more than one video have been played, staying on the same page, videos aivalable for download, by any Firefox Download Extension as Downloader Helper, Flash Video Downloader or 1 Click Video Download, are the format options for the first video opened in the tab, and not format options for the video actually playing.
I have tried resetting Firefox ( Firefox menu : ? \ Troubleshooting Information \ Reset Firefox), and reinstall Videos Downloaders (without Adblock Plus that I normally use), it did not solve the problem.
Temporary Solution :
Refreshing the http://www.youtube.com/... page ( by hitting the round arrow at the right of the adress bar ) allows me to update the download features but it is annoying as it restarts the playback every time I decide to download a video ( so is it having to remember to refresh the page ).
I am surprised it seems no one have experience and solved this problem yet.

What hardware are you on? Flash is always a finicky beast, especially on older hardware. This is not an entirely uncommon problem. Try looking at this [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems|support article]] and see if that helps.

My iTunes Library is giving me duplicate songs. One has an exclamation point in the cloud and the other has the arrow in the cloud for download. Some songs don't have anything which means they play fine. It's burned CD's and purchases from Itunes.

All CD's that I burned for my library have an iCloud icon with an explanation point next to the song. If I right click it prompts me that 'This Item was not added to the iCloud because an error occurred. Some of my purchases have no cloud icon next to them at all and they play fine. Numerous purchases have 2 of the same songs listed..one has the cloud with the explanation point and the other has the cloud with a down arrow for downloading from the cloud. What I am having to do is delete the ones with the explanation point and then download the one with the arrow. It's taking forever. Then I still have to go back and re-burn my CD's and then back them up in iTunes Match. Any ideas of what's going on? and how to get this all done faster? Getting really frustrated!

i noticed this as a bug in iTunes. make sure the correct file is selected in the preferences menus. It does not have to be the default location directiory as Vazandrew stated. your iTunes music library can be anywhere you want it. i have mine on an external cuz i'm a dj and have over 80,000 songs.
once you select/verify the location of your music library, simply drag the folder into the left panel in iTunes from a finder window. iTunes does not automatically add the items like it use to for some reason.

I downloaded a free App called ThaiPad from Bangkok Post newspaper. I downloaded on my PC running Windows 7. The Bangkok Post recommended itunes for downloading. I completed download but it would not open. I am assuming that perhaps this App. was for iPod

Any app that you download using iTunes is for use only on iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch, and not on a PC. It's possible they have a separate app for PC, as some companies do, but the one you downloaded via iTunes definitely will not open in Windows 7.
