Apex 4.2 - Query Builder buglet
Hi,
when I am trying to create a new report in Apex 4.2 using the Query builder. As the Query builder pops up, the Region that will hold the SQL pops up with an error looking something like this;
*1 error has occurred Report SQL must be specified. (Go to error)*.
Obviously whatever validation is creating this error should only happen when you click on the next button as opposed to when the Query builder is popped up.
I was able to reproduce this on apex.oracle.com
Kofi
The query builder in report query as a BIG BUG!!! If have 2 tables and link its and sel some fields in query builder popup the result dont work. If you click in download button you receive this message: "apex/wwv_flow.accept was not found on this server". If your query was a litle query this function work well but if your query have more than 2 tables the report query doesnt work, This is a Oracle Apex BUG!

2 Bugs - Apex 4 - Websheets & Query Builder
Hello,
Just to make someone from the Apex Dev team aware if they aren't already.
I've come across what i think is a bug in Websheets where if you create a data grid or interactive report and then save a Named Copy of the report (so that the select list appears at the top of the report/grid with the saved report names). When you then click on any of the drop down menus like Actions, Manage, or any of the drop down tabs at the top of the page (Page, Data, Annotations, Administration) the background of the menu goes transparent making it really difficult to read the options in the menu if there is some text behind it.
If you then delete the saved report so that you just have the one version, and refresh the page the problem dissapears. I've only found this issue when using Internet Explorer 8 (not sure about earlier versions), as far as I am aware this doesn't happen in Firefox or Chrome.
Also if you log into Apex using Google Chrome and go to the Query Builder under SQL Workshop. If you click and add a table with quite a few columns (10 or more) the scroll bar is missing down the right hand side which means there is no way to select/view all of the columns in that table.
Thanks.Better make that 3 bugs.
Create a data grid from spreadsheet data. There must be a very small limit on the data you can actually upload using this thing, I just tried to upload 50 rows of data containing 12 columns (not exactly a massive amount). The data is a fictional list of employees, I have pasted the tab delimited data below.
It fails, but rather than giving an error message like "Too Much Data" it just clears out the text area and says "Data Must Be Provided". Also it doesn't seem to say anywhere what the limit on pasted data is.
I'd really appreciate it if somebody could respond to this ticket to let me know that these issues have been acknowledged.
Thanks.

Create a query builder in oracle Apex
Hi
We have a request to create a query builder in oracle Apex particularly. But it provide the application builder and Utilities when we create the apex workspace. My question is any possibility are to make the application builder and utilizes as invisible
regards
apexuserhi scott,
we no need to buid a report.we want generate a sql query using GUI drag and drop query builder.
our suggestion is provide synonym for all objects and give to clinet, but in apex query builder only show view and table...
it not show synonym thats the problem..
simply we want oracle query browser.just want build a query.through synonym schema.
we cerate a oracle user and provide synonym for live tables.then we provide the synonym user to client place,so they want build a query simpl.
they dont have sql knowledge.

Hi,
Is Apex users eg. developer user possible to access only query builder in oracle application express?
Regards,
LathaHi Latha,
I believe in APEX 4.0 you can do that.
For now you would need to write a query builder yourself... (it's just an APEX app)

Is it possible to write SQL code from within the Query Builder, and if so how do you do that? Thanks!
Hi,
I think that depends on what your aim is. If, for example, you wanted to create a SQL View, you could go to Object Browser, click Create (top-right), select View and then click the Query Builder option. Once you've completed the query, you click Return to pass the code back into the Create View page. There are other places within Apex, where Query Builder is available.
Otherwise, there are packages available such as the free SQL Developer ([http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/index.html]) that may be able to help you.

Query Builder does not appear in my APEX installation
I cannot find a button or tab to access the Query Builder. Either I am looking in the wrong place (SQL Workshop) or it was somehow not installed?
Thanks.
LVSThanks, but my problem is that that button is not there.
On the main page I have a big button named "SQL Workshop". When I click that I get 3 big buttons - "SQL Command Processor", "User Interface Defaults", "Create Object".
The same page has another region called "Database Browser" with other smaller graphic buttons and another region for "SQL Scripts". But nothing that says SQL Builder.

Query Builder (Express Edition 10g) is not working in Google Chrome
Google Chrome is not properly displaying table in SQL Query Builder (Oracle Database Express 10g).
It is not possible to select all fields of given table because not all fields are displayed and I can't go down to select last field.
In Mozilla Firefox this is possible. In Google Chrome table bar is not displayed.pilczew wrote:

Upgrade to APEX 4.0 - it should work then properly also in Google Chrome. -
Has anyone built a Query Builder Page in the apps that is similar to the standard APEX Query Builder?
I haven't done exactly this, but remember doing a tabular form genarator (similar to the tabular form wizard in the builder) choosing tables, columns and field types. But that was using Apex 3.2, now that we have jQuery and dynamic actions in Apex 4.0, it should be much easier.
If you looking for an approach, here's one
<li>create a left side bar region with tables from schema: report or list based
select table_name from user_tables<li>On click of the list entry, show a modal dialog of a report based on the columns of the selected table
SELECT * FROM USER_TAB_COLS WHERE table_name = :<TABLE_NAME ITEM> Show images based on column type ("data_type" in user_tab_cols)
Checkboxes return the column name for each row
<li> Have a dynamic action that runs for each checkbox calling a PLSQL to update a collection adding the clicked column name to the the list.
Refresh a updateable report region which is based on the collection , showing the column, sort order, group by options
and JS code to move rows up or down (
move_up code (pseudo code)
this_row = $(this.triggeringElement).parents('tr:first);
prev_row = this_row.prev();
next_row = this_row.next();
//move up
prev_row.before(this_row);Then the SQL code generation would concatenate the application arrays containing the column names adding columns one row at a time and adding sort and order options. You would need to some custom PLSQL coding, looping throw each row adding predicates. -
Multiple schemas in query builder
Hi,
I have seen variations of this question returning a couple of times in the forum, but no answer has come forward so far. So let's try again...
In APEX 4.1 (maybe also in earlier versions) there is a drop-down at the top-right of the query-builder tool to select a different schema.
The problem is, that it only shows the "parsing" schema. So the user the workspace is associated with.
I have taken all of the following steps, that i would expect to make the other schemas show up:
- associate my second scheme, SCHEMA_2, to the workspace SPACE_1
- grant the "parsing" schema, SCHEMA_1, select access to all objects in SCHEMA_2
And I have tested the following things:
- in "SQL Commands" run a query that selects objects from SCHEMA_2, using "select * from SCHEMA_2.TEST_TABLE;". This works
- in query builder, select the "SQL" option and insert the same query and click "run". Results in "Please enter a valid query to see results"
- create an application with a "SQL report" page, and insert the same query. Results in "Query cannot be parsed, please check the syntax of your query. (ORA-00942: table or view does not exist)"
My toughts on this issue:
- A different user is used in query builder and the application builder?
- the "SQL commands" uses the "parsing" schema, as expected
So, what's wrong? Is using more then one schema in the query builder such an uncommon requirement?
Or did this message pass by unnoticed? -

Query Builder in Web application
Hi, I want to develop a web application, which include query builder for database using Jdeveloper nad ADF. In this application must be page with this queries and execute them. The problem is that i have no idea how to realize it, Please help me
Manuals, links and other information would be good.<puts flame shields on>

Query Builder - foreign key relationships not showing automatically
Is it standard functionality in APEX that foreign key to primary key relationships are not shown in Query Builder when choosing related tables? Do you always have to join FKs to PKs manually (i.e. using control click) whenever you create joins in queries? In Oracle forms and SQL Developer the foreign key constaints are always draw in automatically. Any reason why this is not part of APEX's query builder as well? It's such a hassel to have to put them in each time when the relationships could easily be read directly from the data dictionary constraints.

Query builder: tables from Database Link
Hi APEX people,
Is there a way to use tables from a (remote) Database Link in the Query Builder?
In the Query Builder I seem to have only access to locally (schema) stored tables.
I already tried to define a Synonym for the remote tables I wanted to use, but that didn't work either.
Thanks in advance.
MauriceHi,
First of all, can you select from them ie
SELECTÂ *
FROM my_table@my_linkAlso you can't see them as tables in the schema because they're not tables in the schema.
Try creating a view like...
CREATE OR REPLACE FORCE VIEW m_table_vw AS
SELECT *
FROM my_table@my_link;You should be able to see the view in the schema in the query builder and use that.
Cheers

Query Builder results seem to max out at 500 lines. How to change?
Hi all,
Some of out Application Express users are using the Query Builder tool for ad-hoc reporting. The idea is to run the SQL to extract the data, then download to MS Excel. The Query Builder results seem to max out at 500 lines. I want to increase that value. I searched all Application Express forums for 'query builder output max 500' and then 'query builder output' and did not find the answer.
How do I change the 500 line limit in Query Builder results?
Thanks!

It is for an older version of APEX, but you should be able to make it work for your needs..

How to use Query Builder as a component inside our applications?
I am very new to Apex, but I loved it until now :)
After my first experience I am thinking to advice Apex as an Oracle database reporting environment to some of our marketing and sales guys. These guys are familiar to basic SQL and table, index concepts and their need is to create dynamic reports, take their output to excel and email these reports all around the company :)
My first question is can Apex 3.1 work with 9.2 - 10.1 - 10.2 and 11.1?
My second question is how can I open the Query Builder inside the Create Region>SQL Report wizard to my users inside a custom user defined form?
My third question is if the answer of second question is it is not possible, then anyone can advice on alternatives for this kind of a need with Apex?
My last question is how Apex can handle a distributed database environment, like Java applications can it open several database connections as needed?
Thank you.Hello,
My first question is can Apex 3.1 work with 9.2 - 10.1 - 10.2 and 11.1?Correct. That's said in the installation guide.
My second question is how can I open the Query Builder inside the Create Region>SQL Report wizard to my users inside a custom user defined form? This does not yet exist out of the box. You can have a look how Oracle did it and try to mimic it in your own application.
My third question is if the answer of second question is it is not possible, then anyone can advice on alternatives for this kind of a need with Apex?Import app 4500 in your own workspace. On page 1002 you should find the query builder.
Again you can't just run this, you would need to make customizations to it. Alternatively you can add just a textarea on a page where you can run SQL statements from. But I guess you want to have the graphical display?
My last question is how Apex can handle a distributed database environment, like Java applications can it open several database connections as needed?APEX is living in the Oracle database. So everything inside that database you can potentially work with. If you need data from other sources you can use a database link or hytrogenous connectivity. Basically if you can do it from the Oracle database, you can also do it from within APEX.

Dimitri
