Apex 4 themes

Hi,
I successfully upgraded the Apex instance from 3.2 to 4.0.2.00.07 - I also applied the patch. All existing applications worked as before. However, when I tried to copy an existing application (with old theme 20 plus some customized templates) and switched it to use the modern themes, everything moved. Particularly, if I use the page template "One Level Tabs - Left Sidebar (fixed-width / Div based)", all forms and reports are forced to the right side of the page even though there is not any sidebar in the page. For example, a report should occupy the whole page now appears in the middle of the page - looks like there is always a left sidebar in any page. I understand that the modern themes are all CSS-based. Is there any solution to fix this?
Thanks.
Andy

I figured that out. I had to manually change those pages without any left sidebar to use "One Level tabs...optional right sidebar". Is there any way that I can make the left sidebar optional - instead of fixed width? Also, is it possible to make the left sidebar table-based.
Thanks.
Andy

  • Skillbuilders Modal Page on IE8 with an IE6 compatible Apex theme

    Hi,
    We have been using Theme 13 for quite some time now - I'm aware it's not the best theme in the world to use but with the number of application pages we have now it will take a long time to upgrade them to a newer theme.
    Recently we implemented the Skillbuilders modal page with more than a little help from Dan McGhan and it looks amazing, using any Apex theme, when using IE9, Chrome, Firefox etc. For some reason, when using IE8, we are experiencing strange behaviour.
    The modal box is not showing the Close button and the right and bottom sides are hidden from view inside a parent div. This is a known issue with the jquery ui dialog, but I was hoping someone might have come up with a workaround to make it show correctly.
    If you visit [url http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=62488:2:0:::::]this example with IE8 and click on the names, it doesn't display correctly.
    Can anyone help? We know switching themes to a non-IE6 compatible one works but I would like to fix this without changing stuff to that extent.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards, Pete

    Pete,
    The page templates for the main page and the modal page are missing DTDs so the browser is running in quirks mode. Try adding the HTML5 DTD as it's the simplest:
    <!DOCTYPE html>Note that this may cause other parts of the template to "break". These can be fixed but depending on the severity it may cost a lot of time to fix.
    Regards,
    Dan

    This is a big topic and it's not really possible to cover it in the format of a forum post.
    Developing a complete theme requires a good knowledge of HTML and CSS (and increasingly of JavaScript and a JS framework like jQuery). It's beyond the scope of this forum to provide information on the basics of HTML and CSS, and/or web and UI design in general.
    See this classic Cloning your Corporate UI with HTML DB blog post (HTML DB was the former name of APEX).
    Before going further you should be familiar with the documentation relating to the use of themes, templates and CSS in APEX: Oracle® Application Express Application Builder User's Guide, Chapter 11: Managing Themes and Templates
    Once you get started, if you have specific questions relating to the inclusion in APEX of particular HTML, CSS, JS frameworks, or components then those are the questions it is appropriate to ask here (after consulting the documentation and searching the forum and web for prior relevant discussions, and according to the guidelines in the FAQ and sticky threads).
    With APEX we're fortunate to have a great resource in apex.oracle.com where we can reproduce and share problems. Reproducing things there is the best way to troubleshoot most issues, especially those relating to layout and visual formatting. If you expect a detailed answer then it's appropriate for you to take on a significant part of the effort by getting as far as possible with an example of the problem on apex.oracle.com before asking for assistance with the issue, which we can then see at first hand.

  • Purchased APEX theme images on a hosted site

    Hello Everybody,
    I purchased a wonderful theme for APEX, I'm trying to get it up and running at my job apex instance, the problem is that the dba's are unwilling to create the directory to place the files on the Oracle Application Server. On the servers that I manage, I have no problems doing this, but that is an entirely different issue.
    I have uploaded the files as static files, static images, and I uploaded the css as css. Problem is my graphics are not being displayed.
    I created an application substitution string and values as follows:
    THEME_PATH #WORKSPACE_IMAGES#This does allow the css to work, but the icons, buttons, and other png or gif files are not rendered?
    I do know that this can be made to work, I'm just not sure what I'm doing wrong, can anyone help me?
    Thanks,
    Charles

    I actually use Revion, they are great! This is my real job that I'm talking about. I'm going to put in a request to have the files installed on the application server, even if they approve the idea, it may take several months to get it done, the bureaucracy slows everything down here. I'm not going to let that little detail stop me from my work.
    Thanks big time, I really appreciate your help!

  • Custom Apex theme prohobits CSV Download link

    Hi,
    I'm using Apex 3.2.1.00.12; Database version = 11.1.0.7.0.
    A customized theme is used for the application.
    For a reports region I added CSV Download link, but it is not showing when i run the page.
    Please let me know if any settings to be changed for the page/theme/template.
    Thanks & Regards.

    Hi
    In the report template (not the region template), there is a substitution string available called #CSV_LINK#
    You need this somewhere in the template in order for the link to appear. For exmaple you may have something like this in the 'After Rows' section of the template...
    </table><div class="someClass">#CSV_LINK#</div></td>
    </tr>
    #PAGINATION#
    </table>Cheers
    Ben

  • Apex theme 23 no region id in some region templates?

    When using the Theme 23 (Crimson), I noticed simple dynamic actions such as hide, don't work on certain regions. After investigating the region template I noticed the section tag of those regions did not contain id's. An example is the "Region without Buttons and Titles".
    When I added the code: id="#REGION_STATIC_ID#" in the section tag the problem was solved.
    Is there a reason Apex chose not to include an ID in certain region themes of theme 23?

  • Building New Apex Themes

    Hi,
    My company are an Oracle Platinum Partner who have been using Apex as their main bespoke development tool for the past 5 years.
    We have built many advanced applications using our core PL/SQL skill set as well as skills picked up along the way such as JavaScript and XML.
    We have always stuck to using the in-built standard themes rather than trying to create our own.
    This now needs to change; we are required to incorporate a potential customers current CSS and Look & Feel.
    Could someone please give us some ideas on where to start. Do we alter the CSS of an in-built theme or do we try to create our own from scratch.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated
    Regards
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin
    This is standard stuff available in the documentation, but ..
    1. Open your application (e.g. 200), and navigate to Themes
    Home > Application Builder > Application 200 > Shared Components > Themes
    2. Click on the "Manage Workspace Themes" link in the Tasks section on the right hand side.
    3. This opens the Workspace Themes Wizard, choose Create option and then press Next button.
    4. Then select an Application Theme to copy and press Next.
    Every application has at least 1 theme.
    5. You can change the name and number for the new workspace theme to be created, then press Next.
    6. If all went well press Create Workspace Theme to publish your theme.
    If any template classes are missing, you will need to create them before you can publish your theme.
    You are now back at the Themes page, at Home > Application Builder > Application 200 > Shared Components > Themes.
    To verify the theme is available:
    Either in the current page, or navigate to the Themes page in your second application in the same workspace, navigate to:
    Home > Application Builder > Application ??? > Shared Components > Themes
    1. Choose Create to create a new theme.
    2. Choose From the Repository and press Next
    3. Choose Show Custom Themes to view your theme.
    4. To create it choose your theme and press Next
    5. Press Create when the Confirm dialog comes up.
    You now have a copy of your theme, exactly as it was when you published it.
    Themes cannot be subscribed, only templates can be subscribed.
    Since themes are a snapshot you have better control, as you can publish versions of the entire theme.
    Regards
    Mark

  • APEX Theme 24 Cloudy

    Hi
    We have an apex app written using cloudy theme 24.
    The app works ok in IE8, Firefox 12 and chrome (19.0.1084.56 m) latest version however the app will not display correctly in IE9.
    Has anybody seen this behaviour?
    John

    It is not the fonts and the sizes.
    What happens is the column headings on the interactive report are over wirtten with the region border and the buttons and boxes are in totally different positions on the screen. remember I said it is the asme in firefxo chrome and ie8 it is only ie9 that cauase the problem.

    Hi,
    As I know those are not included to standard themes on APEX 4.1.1.
    You can check if there is ready plugins
    http://www.apex-plugin.com/
    Also you can check APEX 4.2 EA if those are included. If not use builder feedback link to submit feature enhancement

  • Do APEX themes have page-size limits?

    Hi:
    APEX 4.2
    I have an application that uses theme 2. On one page I have several regions that display updateable items populated with SQL.  One particular region shows a tabular report that contains a combination of updateable and non-updateable items.  This region will show no more than 15 rows.  In one case I know that 22 rows should show.  The pagination links do nothing.  That is, nothing happens when I click the NEXT link or select the next X of Y from a list.
    I saw on a not-too-related posting that suggested that a theme for an application can restrict page size.  Is this true?
    I've spent two days on this problem, and I have gotten nowhere.
    Can anyone suggest what else I should look for?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the response.

  • APEX Theme 25 - Responsive Grid Layout Question

    Hi
    What is the best way to control an item to be positioned right next to the other item on the same row.
    I have a select list that I would like to have an edit button right next to it.
    I created two items for example:
    P_MY_SELECT_LIST Grid set New Line to Yes, Auto
    P_MY_EDIT_LINK Grid set New Line to No, Auto
    But it is not doing what I expected.. what am I missing?
    When it was tables not divs I had no trouble but now I need to learn the kep to using the Grid.
    When I hard code the edit in the Post Element of the item it works great with 2 spaces... but I can't control the item by the AUTH Scheme. I don't want them to show up unless you have the proper role.
    Plus, I want to learn the new 4.2 way!
    Thanks, Bill

    Hi Scott, Bill,
    Because Theme 25 relies on grid for most of it's positioning, it is difficult to do accomplish what was sometimes much simpler when using the tables approach for form layouts. This also happens to be one of the biggest issues with Theme 25: proper form and label positioning.
    If we look back to using tables for form layout we would see that a structure would be created immediately when we started laying out items. Because of the way tables behave, whatever the size of your first label was controlled the width of that cell, and the cells below it. Meaning all of your labels would line up, but only take the space necessary to fit your label.
    However, with a div-based grid, this is no longer possible. There is no structured set of cells that grow / contract together as there are in tables. Because of this, it is difficult to determine the width of a given container and apply that same width to others (for example, picking up your largest label, and applying the width of that label container to the other labels which are below).
    One way to go around this problem, and what we've done in Theme 25, is to used fixed-width labels. So we explicitly set the width of labels, and that makes the layout much more predictable. We know that labels will always be a certain width, and that input fields that follow will begin from the same position. However, this is very different from how forms in tables work:
    1. All labels are the same size, so even if a label is very small, or very large, it will take the same space.
    2. We can no longer align two items be right next to each other without using grids.
    3. When using grids, we have to be mindful of the label's fixed width as it can be larger than the column it is contained in.
    We're working on a cleaner approach to this problem so creating responsive applications and laying form items is easier than it currently is. In the meantime, you can override several styles to help your particular use case.
    Here are just a few styles you can apply to your page to get form alignment to behave (with a specified region static id):
    1. Manually setting the widths of labels for a given region:
    #my_region div.fieldContainer.horizontal>label {
        width: 80px;
    #my_region div.fieldContainer.horizontal div.fieldControls {
        /* width above + 16px spacing */
        margin-left: 96px;
    2. Set Label widths to only take up the space they need:
    #my_region div.fieldContainer.horizontal>label {
        float: none;
        width: auto;
    #my_region div.fieldContainer.horizontal div.fieldControls {
        margin-left: 0;
        display: inline-block;
    3. You can allow fields to float left:
    a. Add to your inline CSS:
    #my_region div.fieldContainer {float: left;}b. Set grid layout attributes for your second item as follows:
    Start New Row: No
    Column: Automatic
    New Column: NoYou can combine these together as well. For example, applying styles #2 and #3 will let you position elements side by side and immediately after each other.
    Scott,
    For some of your issues in particular, here are some possible ways to go around them:
    1. Password field being cut off
    In addition to setting the size of the field to 60, you can apply an inline style to control the width by setting the HTML Form Element Attributes field to:
    style="max-width: 100%;"This will restrict the size of input field to be a maximum of 100% of it's container, and should no longer be hidden when your window is resized.
    2. Customer Report obscured
    You can add an inline style to your page header to set this region's content to scroll. For example giving it a static id of my_region and adding the following to your page's inline css field:
    #my_region section.uRegion>div.uRegionContent {overflow: auto;} Hope this helps!

  • Apex Theme Editing

    Hi all,
    i found a nice vista-style toolbar on the net and want to implement it in apex.
    but unfortunately it does not load the images specified in css file
    here´s what i´d like to do:
    [http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=200801:2012:586436219181608::NO:::|http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=200801:2012:586436219181608::NO:::]
    i currently use the 15. light Blue Template shipped with Apex. I was trying to edit the "One Level Tabs" Area of the template. Does #APP_IMAGES# work in a css-file? i also tried to reference it via "wwv_flow_file_mgr.get_file?p_security_group_id=1052403873569121&p_flow_id=106&p_fname=right.png", no success...
    greetings,
    Sebastian

    It should - i used firebug on the page and here is the css definition for that page:
    .vista_toolbar ul {
    background-image:url(wwv_flow_file_mgr.get_file?p_security_group_id=441224701954687600&p_flow_id=200801&p_fname=back.gif);
    background-repeat:repeat-x;
    float:left;
    line-height:32px;
    list-style-image:none;
    list-style-position:outside;
    list-style-type:none;
    margin:0;
    padding:0 10px;
    width:800px;
    }As you can see it is using the built-in call to the database to retrieve the image... what do you have in your CSS?

  • Switching themes with customized templates

    Most typical Apex applications start with a quick prototype containing most of the required functionality, get required approvals, and continue building it up.
    During all of this, the concept of "themes" is mentioned and demonstrated as a reassurance that the "look and feel" of the application can be very easily switched at any point. In other words, let's worry about designing the content and behaviour, the presentation can be easily switched.
    All this sounds very good on paper and is do-able as long as one uses the out-of-the-box Apex themes/templates. But, in my experience, any non-trivial application has lots of customized templates. That brings me to my question.
    As soon as you start to customize templates, modify them, create new ones, etc, you start to get "committed" to that specific theme. In other words, if I have a theme with 10 customized templates, 5 slightly modified ones, etc, and I switch to another theme from the Apex repository, I get all the out-of-the-box templates for that theme. I have to painstakingly re-do all my customizations for the corresponding templates in the new theme.
    And Apex does nothing to help me with this task. There is no "diff" utility between themes, no compares, no merges, nothing. I have to eye-ball the old template, copy the HTML snippets from the Builder into Notepad, pull up my new template and manually copy, paste, modify snippets into the new template. Very error-prone.
    How have people handled this sort of thing? Are there any best-practices, any procedures that people follow to make switching between themes painless?
    Thanks

    Hello,
    Second post down.

    I build out themes all the time that are about 70/30 standard templates to custom templates and following that procedure makes the switches fairly easy.
