APEX and web search engines

I was just wondering if a site built exclusively in Application Express has any disadvantages with regards to search engines. Since an APEX page is somewhat dynamic would a search engine (e.g. Google) still be able to "find it"? Or is it a better idea to build the front page of a site as a static page since people accessing this site from a search engine is very important to the site?

  • New Upgrade - Now i'm getting my wife's text, emails and web searches

My wife and I share a Apple ID account and in the past this hasn't been a problem.  Now since we've done the latest software update I'm getting all of her text messages and web searches (from her iPhone) on my Mac.  And when someone calls my cell number it calls her phone too.  I've been looking in the settings how to turn this off, but I've been unsuccessful.
Basically, I would like to have my iPhone and Mac synced (receive calls and texts) which works great now, but not my wife's.  And I would like for my wife's phone to not receive any of my text or calls.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Hi Go to settings Facetime Turn off Cellular Data. But you would be better each having your own Apple ID Cheers Brian

  • How do i get Google and yahoo search engines to stay on Top Sites?

How can I get Google and Yahoo search engines to stay on "Top Sites"?

You pin the site to the top sites tiles
    1. Hover your cursor over the site on top sites you want
    2. Wait for the two buttons to show up in the top left corner
    3. Tap the one with the pin so it highlights in blue

  • Only Yahoo and Bing appear in the search box and the Search engine manager only shows them too.

No matter what I try, only Yahoo and Bing search engines appear in the search box top right on Firefox. The Search engine manager only shows these two engines as well. I want to add Goggle and have not been able to. The default restore in the Search engine Manager is "Greyed out". What can I do to fix this ?

If those search engines are also missing in the searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) then a (re)install should restore them.
If they are present then try to delete search.sqlite and search.json in the Firefox Profile Folder.

I can not keep Yahoo.com as my search engine with FireFox as my browse. How do I keep Yahoo.com as my default search engine when go on line with FireFox? Jim

  • How can I restore the search bar drop down list and current search engine icon as it was in FF version 33?

Is there a way to restore the search bar from version 33?
I like seeing which search engine I have selected and the ability to change it with a drop down list BEFORE I highlight text, right-click, and select ' Search Google for "xxxx" '
Any way to roll back this latest "improvement"?

If you miss being able to switch search engines without going
    crazy with menus, try this out;
    '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/context-search/ Context Search]''' {web link}
Expands the context menu's 'Search for' item into a list of
installed search engines, allowing you to choose the engine
you want to use for each search.

    cheers!

    Hey,
This is a great programme.. it allows you to add page titles, meta tags & descriptions really easily for iweb.
    Good luck!

  • Need advice on web search engine

I may need to install a search engine for a asp.x web site I am working on. I know nothing about ASP.NET and the these are secure web pages. Also, this is for just a portion of the web site.I have no experience with search engines.
First question: Can search engines limit their search to just a section of a web site?
Second question: What would recommend for my circumstances?
    Thanks!

Answer to your first question: No, I don't want to provide a search engine to the entire site. There is a section you go in with several divisions. One division is the directory of services. The way that it's set up now is they have about 9 PDF files that are link to 9 headings. You click on a heading and it opens the PDF for that topic. The problem is that it takes a long time for the PDF to open and then the person may have to search it for the information they are looking for.
I think you may have answered my question already. If robot files are required to limit a search, then a search engine may not be the practical choice in my case.
By the way, to answer your last question, I am not coding in ASP.NET. I have made it clear to these people that I don't know a line of it. But I also think the solution to the problem is to convert the Directory to web pages, set up links of topics and maybe a JavaScript jump menu for linking to other bookmarked information. That way the searched is limited to only certain topics we decide beforehand but also limited to the directory.
What do you think of this solution? Do you foresee any problems?

  • Optimising video for web search engine results

I have little experience of producing video, so by default I have little experience or knowledge of premier... so I am here to ask a question on the back of a conversation I have just had with a client who is fairly video savvy, but not entirely premier pro savvy.
He is under the impression that premier pro has a facility to be able to analyse the content of a video and then automatically create a metadata file which can then be utilised for search engine ranking. Is this so? Has premier pro got this capability?
    Thanks in advance.
    Mat

    > Is that what's being asked for, though?  I understood the OP wants
Google to scan the video itself for metedata and use that for rankings.
Yep. The tutorials that I linked to show how to embed the speech-to-text metadata in the video and then extract it for search within Flash Player.
    > Actually whether or not any Adobe app is capable of such, I think the
bigger question is can a search engine actually scan video files, or do
    they just scan web pages?
The search engine companies are all moving toward using metadata within video files, but at different speeds and with different degrees of transparency. For now, I don't think that it's much used. But the time is coming (and is already here in a minimal, primitive form.)
The reason that I then suggested using the metadata as something to put as text on an HTML page was that I thought that this might be more valuable for the current state of search engine technology.

  • HT4623 I have just updated to the latest ipad setting and my search engine no longer functions, please help.

I should like to know if this may be a problem with the latest update iOS 7.1 and how can I correct it ,please. Thank you for your help.Rensah

    Hi JimHdk
I was attempting to use google to find information.  Google stopped working for at least half an hour. I decided to plug the ipad in to recharge as the battery was below 50% and left it. Later, On restarting the ipad I discovered that the search engine was, and still is, working.
I have heard that previous updates have caused problems to iPads etc and considered that this might have happened with this update, despite being unaffected on previous updates.
My ipad is fully working now but I am curious to know why it happened as it has never stopped working since I purchased the ipad 18 months ago.
I appreciate your contacting me I order to help. Many thanks, Rensah

  • I use bing as my homepage and primary search engine. Why is Firefox periodically showing plugin is disabled on Bing? How do I get it to stop doing this?

As stated above, Firefox disables some plugin the bing homepage uses. I don't want this plugin disabled. Firefox doesn't tell me what plugin it is. I don't want Firefox, mozilla, or anyone else deciding for me what plugins should and should not be disabled. This is my computer, not yours. How do I stop Firefox from acting like it knows better than me what plugins to disable and when?

In order to change the default search engine or the order of search engines in the top right search box in Firefox, please perform the following steps:
#Move the mouse cursor inside the search box at the top right of the Firefox window and click the down arrow next to the provider's logo.
#If you would like to select another search engine, simply pick the engine from the dropdown list.
In order to change the order of the search engines, do this:
#From the dropdown list, select ''Manage Search Engines...''.
#In the upcoming window, you have all your search engines listed. To change the order, simply click one search engine and then select ''Move up'' or ''Move down'' from the buttons on the right side in order to change the order of the search engines.

  • Evaluation Questionaire Layout and Forum Search Engine

Every website has customer surveys with no consistency as to whether good to bad is right to left or left to right leading to selecting the wrong values when filling out many surveys. Microsoft adds a hyphenated descriptor to the 0 value and the 10 value in their surveys to keep from selecting the wrong value which would be good practice for Lulu surveys or all surveys for that matter.
Using FAQ forums to find answers is looking for a needle in a haystack. Some super coder should come up with a search engine that analyzes whole sentences to select results from forums.

Some super coder should come up with a search engine that analyzes whole sentences to select results from forums.
One did, a long time ago. It started with text-only games on PCs. Each new generation was able to understand more and more words up to complete sentences. You did have to be careful how you typed though. "Kill grey elf" would often get the reply "kill grey elf with what?"  "Kill which grey elf with what?" "Are you sure you wish to do that?"
Then someone created  Boolean logic into the equation. I think Ask Jeeves was the first searchengine to use it. You could ask it entire questions and it understood them, unlike most searchengines that can only understand up to 3 words even if you use , between some.
But it has always mattered what you actually type in to a search engine.
But it can be annoying when people hit forums via searchengine results because they end up posting in threads years old or subjects that are only 10% to do with what they searched for.

  • Safari and Russian Search Engin

Every time I search in the title bar of Safari Version 6.0 (8536.25) in Mountain Lion, the results come up from a Russian search engine (http://yandex.ru), even when I ask that the default be something like Yahoo. Any idea how I can change that? I don't want to use Google anymore because of the search tracking but I find going through a Russian ISP somewhat disconcerting.

Actually, I didn't mean to pose a question but search the discussions. I just did a search and the solution there was to delete the extension Omnibar, which includes the Russian search engine. Problem solved.
