APEX Licensing

All I want to know if APEX is free product to use in Production.
Also we want to use the PDF reports feature avaialble in APEX. I understand from documentation that BI publisher is integrated with this. Do we have to purchase BI publisher licenses in order to use this feature?

My requirement is to further understand APEX licensing.
1)I have an EE database and run OEM-dbconsole which tells me that HTTP server is installed & being used by OEM-dbconsole. am I correct?
2) If I use/install APEX on the same machine and develop an application I would not be breaking any licensing?
3) In short other than "BI publisher" which applications/modules' usage should be avoided in order to use APEX without purchasing additional licensing?
4) I am trying to convince my company that APEX can be used for small in-house projects but they are fearful of breaking oracle-licenses or needing to purchase very expensive licenses.

  • Does APEX license comes with DB license or separate license?

    Hello Sir/Madam,
Does APEX license comes with DB license or separate license? Thanks.

On the Toshiba Recovery CD you can find the Toshiba image. Toshiba image contains the OS (Vista in your case), Toshiba drivers, tools and additional software.
The recovery CD is not the same like a original Microsoft OS CD and the Vista on the Toshiba recovery CD is already activated.
By the way; The OEM key (which activated the Vista on the Toshima image) cannot be used with other, different Vista OS. This will not function.

  • Oracle Forms vs APEX for Web Development

Could you please suggest me which Oracle Technology will be better suitable give flexibility for developing a web application of Information processing.
    1). Oracle Forms (Web)
    or
    2) Oracle Application express
and also please explain the how it is good comparative other.

I think you should also include the licensing issues in application development/deployment plans. As you might know, Forms requires iDS (for development) and iAS EE (for deployment) licenses. For JDeveloper and ADF, the development platform is free and the iAS Java version is much cheaper compared to the iAS EE license. When it comes to APEX licensing, it is free as long as the database server is properly licensed. For a small size company, APEX and the JDeveloper + ADF and iAS Java version makes perfect sense. Because Forms Services is only a part of the EE version of the iAS server, it might be an expensive option for a small scale application. On the other hand iAS EE is very capable and scaleable framework and you can deploy both J2EE, Forms, Reports, Discoverer, Portal applications from a single platform.
    Hope this proves useful.

  • ISE licenses and Profiling service

    Hi,
I tried to find proper explanation of how ISE licenses are used but I am still not sure of one thing.
With the Plus license, when the profiling service is turned on; is the number of endpoints consumed from the Plus license for every endpoint that has been profiled and successfully authenticated or the number will be consumed from Base license first ?

A successfully Authenticated device draws from the Base License.
A Profiled device draws from the Plus License.
A successfully Authenticated profiled device draws from both.
This is why you need at least as many Base as Plus or Apex Licenses.

  • Web development between OAF & APEX

    Hi Gurus,
I got a question or dilema here, I use to develop in OAF a few months ago, but I got an APEX new project very close, so I read some articles in APEX main page and I could't see any considerable difference between OAF and APEX, maybe because I don't have the expertice of you guys, but could you please tell me if there is a big difference between those frameworks?
In oracle page says that APEX its more simple and austere than OAF, but in wich aspect?
Thanks a lot for your time, and I'll appreciate a lot your answer.

  • ISE 1.2 Authentication fails for 2nd AD domain with the forest trust relation

We are running cisco ISE 1.2, we have new AD domain with forest trust relation between both the new and the old. authentication to with the new domain fails.
Is there any requirements or configurations change needs to be done to make it success?

Use the license that is currently on your ISE.  If your account has access to download the software, then you are good.  The license will not change during the upgrade.  If you are using ISE 1.2 Patch 8 or above, then you are using the same Base/Plus?Apex Licensing model.
If you are not yet on Patch 8, the you are using Base/Advanced and these will be converted during the upgrade.

  • Prerequisite to enable Profiling for posture assessment to check the AV, Patches, OS update

    Hi Experts,
I have wireless set-up with two SSID , one is used for corporate users with dot1x auth and other one for guest using CWA .
I understood that , i do not need to buy any license or pay to cisco for Wireless license however i want to understand for enabling profiling for posture assessment .
I understood that I need have advance license for posture assessment however I am looking out for information about costing to buy advance license and is there any prereuisite to configure posture assessment other than additional license?

There were a few changes in ISE v1.3:
    - Base License = The same
    - Plus License = The same (with some more features)
    - Advanced License = Apex
    - Wireless = Mobility (Now it includes VPN based authentications as well)
So your plan is to run the new version of ISE (1.3) and AnyConnect 4 then you will need to have:
     - ISE Mobility License (Includes Base, Plus and Apex for wireless and VPN)
     - AnyConnect APEX license - This one is on the honer system and it is not installed on ISE
If you plan to use posture on wired as well then instead of the "mobility" license you will need to get:
     - ISE Base
     - ISE Plus
     - ISE Apex
     - AnyConnect Apex

  • Codemirror - outdated version 0.66

I want to use codemirror to do some syntax highlighting in a certain kind of apex application. For that I use the same PLSQL code highlighting that the apex sql workshop (object browser) uses. I just use highlighting, not the editor. This is build upon the codemirror.js library which comes with apex. Unfortunatly the apex version of codemirror is pretty old (version 0.66).
It lacks some basic features that I would like to use, like starting line numbering with a different number then 1.
Does anyone has experience with ugrading the codemirror library to some newer version?
Can I safely replace the old version, which would mean the new version would also be used for the apex sql workshop (objects browser). Or would this conflict with any apex licensing or support options?

Why you do not like place new version files to different folder and use those just for your app?
Yes I think it will boil down to that.
I do not think it is good idea replace files that APEX ships. At least it is not supported even it might work.
BTW. Have you check SyntaxHighlighter if you do not need editor?
    Regards,
    Jari
Message was edited by: jariola Martin has also create plugin for SyntaxHighlighter http://www.talkapex.com/2010/07/apex-plugin-syntax-highlighter.html
I'll have a look at SyntaxHighlighter. If I move away from the apex standard feature anyways, then I could also use some other js lib.

  • Apex Listener commercial license

    Hello,
I created applications with Apex and I'm about to install Apex on an other database.
I 'll maybe choose Apex Listener but I don't know if there is a commercial license for it: would my customers have to pay to use an apex application that runs with Apex Listener ??
    Thanks.
    Fanny

If you use the ORACLE HTTP server (Apache with modplsql), it's free with the database license.
If you use the APEX Listener, you need an App Server. The App Server requires a License.
For APEX, it's licensed with the Database for all version , Standard One, Standard, Enterprise, Express.

  • APEX Listener on Weblogic licensing - SE or EE

Does the APEX listener on Weblogic use any Weblogic Enterprise Edition features like clustering or is Weblogic Standard Edition good enough? I'm assuming you would need to license Welogic for the APEX listener right?
Also do we have any sizing guidelines for APEX listener on Weblogic. The real question is if the APEX application we have met our SLA's on a 1 CPU box, without the APEX listener, after migrating to Weblogic - APEX Listener, would we be needing more, less or the same CPU capacity.

    Hello,
the APEX Listener itself is stateless, so you can cluster it easily if you want or have to.
APEX Listener is licensed with APEX, not with WLS. You can use a variety of J2EE containers that meet the requirements. In addition to WLS, Oracle supports the use of OC4J (either part of OAS or standalone) and GlassFish. In fact, the APEX Listener ships with an embedded version of GlassFish.
Despite the support aspect, there are people who successfully run the Listener on the GlassFish's Open Source Edition or Apache Tomcat.
Concerning your SLAs: The Listener will do something for you, so of course it will need the CPU. How much load it will generate depends on your usage scenario. Your post sounds like you already use APEX with a different web server than the Listener. If that guess is right, it would be helpful to know which web server you use now and how much CPU time it consumes.

  • Does creating Excel,Word,PDF reports & printing in Apex need licensing ?

I am new to this Apex 4.0
I have installed the Apex 4.0 with Oracle 10g database.
Now using Apex if I create any web application, and develop some reports in the web application.
    1) Now to do the printing of the reports in Excel,Word,PDF does Apex need some other components to be installed ?
    2) Does those components needs licensing ? or are they free like Apex 4.0 ?

    Hi,
    Yes you need other components
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/configure-printing-093060.html
Some of solutions need license, like BI Publisher.
There is also free solutions using e.g. Cocoon, Jasper reports ...

  • Choose the appropriate and cheapest license for Apex

    Dear Experts,
If a customer likes Oracle Apex and want his system to be built with this technology on his private server but he has problems in expensive license of Oracle Database compared with MS SQL Server.
    If the customer has:
    - Planned No. of users: 25 user - max of 10 concurrent users.
    - Server Processor: Intel Xeon(R) CPU X3440 @ 2.53GHz 2.53GHz - 64bit
    - Server RAM:  4GB (I think it is too low for his number of users)
    I have the following questions:
    1) What is the cheapest and appropriate Oracle Database License to buy for this customer to build Oracle Apex system for his users?
    2) What are the cheapest and recommended upgrades in the server processor and RAM in order to provide a good performance for the system with that number of users?
    Best Regards
    Mahmoud

    Dear Scott,
Thank you for reply. If we look at:
Comparison between Oracle Database 12c Editions
We will find the following features not available in Express Edition compared to Standard Edition One
    1) High Availability - Fail Safe
    2) High Availability - Server Managed Backup and Recovery
    3) Performance and Scalability - Integrated Clusterware
    4) Security Defense In Depth - Proxy Authentication
    5) Application Development - Oracle Flashback Data Archive
    6) Application Development - SQL Pattern Matching
    7) Application Development -  Temporal Database
    8) Application Development - Java Support
    9) Manageability - Oracle Enterprise Manager
    10) Manageability - Oracle Automatic Storage Management
    11) Integration - Based Replication
    12) Unstructured Data Management - Multimedia
    13) RAM - 1GB
    - Do I need to plan for some of those features in the first or second release of system? especially those related to backup?
    - Is RAM 1 GB too low for good performance according to the number of concurrent users?
    - Do I need to upgrade or replace the Server HW specially processor to have a good performance or upgrading RAM only is enough?
    Regards
    Mahmoud
