Hi Team.
We have this APEX setup
1. DB 10.2.0.1 - Enterprise Edition
2. Apex 3.2.1
3. RHEL 4
Now we plan to move from Enterprise edtion DB to SE1 DB version .
So wanted some help , how should be going about doing this migration
Will this plan work
1. Install SE1 Db
2. Install APEX 3.2.1 on the newly installed Db
3. Export the imported Data from the old Db and put it in the new Db
Please guide .
Also is there any kind of thing we need to take care when we use the new edition of Db

Don't forget that you may have to install/configure whatever listener you are using on the new system

Existing APEX: Migration to new host/database

We'll be migrating the database containing our APEX install to a new host and new database. As long as all of the objects, views, etc. are copied from the present location where APEX resides, will there be any special considerations we need to factor in for the transition to go smoothly? Also, would APEX need to be reinstalled on the new database, or will copying the objects suffice? Obviously, our intent is to avoid recreating our applications within APEX. Any insight would be appreciated.

You can do a full database export and import (I think that means all schemas) or just do selective ones. For Application Express that would be FLOWS_030000 for versions 3.x, FLOWS_FILES, and APEX_PUBLIC_USER. If you do that you'll have to generate and run a script to grant privileges from SYS as described here: Re: 404 error after restoring the database
Another approach would be to simply reinstall Application Express. From your old database use the apex workspace export for each of your workspaces and gather those export files. Then use the apex workspace import pages to import those workspaces in the new instance. Then do the same for all of your applications, i.e., login to each workspace as an admin, export each application, then repeat this on the new instance but import/install each application into each workspace. This can be tedious.
I hope others will offer their recommendations about this. It sort of depends on how many workspaces and apps you already have.

No the APEX Migration workshop is not installed in the free Oracle demo apex public workspace environment.
One of the Apex experts will be able to confirm this information.
I've only used the tool in my own environment and I've never tried looking for it on the free oracle apex workspace.

Error #40071 migrating Nor.mdthwind 2007

Hello All,
I am trying to evaluate the Apex migration capabilities and have run into a problem I can't find a solution to. I am attempting to export the Northwind 2007.accdb file with the omwb2007.mde project and getting this : Error #40071 - Project not found C:\...\Northwind 2007.accdb Database Schema Export did not complete successfully.
My setup is Oracle Express 10g w/ Apex 3.2.1 upgrade (this is all working) and I downloaded the omwb2007.zip from the Apex migration wizard and unpacked it like the docs said. I am running the exporter in Access 2007.
Does anyone know what the exporter is looking for? Isn't the accdb file all that is necessary? I can run this in Access 2007 just fine.
Something else that is interesting is that the dialog for migrating Access 2007 files still says "Select the MDB files to export" ... I thought I would mention that in case there is some setup issue or something. It seems to me that it should say ACCDB files instead.
Any help would be appreciated as I am new to Access and Apex.

I've migrated the Northwind Access application to Oracle Apex using Access 2007 and Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench. You just need the old .mdb format of the Access application.
1. First, when I opened the application, it warned me that "Certain content in the database has been disabled". For that, I clicked on the orange ball, and entered in Access Options. Here I had to change the Trust Center Settings on the Trust Center panel. In the Trusted Locations list I had to Add New Location, the folder containing the Northwind.mdb file.
2. In Oracle SQL Developer I've used Microsoft Access 2003 Exporter in the Migration -> Microsoft Access Exporter dropdown menu, and Export for Both option to export Northwind.xml and Northwind.sql files.
3. Another task I had to perform was to show the hidden objects in Access 2007, and grant the propper permissions. Click the orange ball -> Access Options. Go to Current Database and click Navigation Options. Here on Tables and Related Views you have to validate the Show System Objects check-box. You should see now some new tables, one of them named MSysObjects.
4. In the Database Tools menu of Access 2007, in the Users and Permissions drop-down, click User and Group Permissions.On the Permissions tab, for Admin, select MsysObjects in the Object Name list, and validate Read Design and Read Data check-boxes.

Access Exporter: Error #7866

Howdy all (and hey there, sspadafore! It feels different being on the OUTSIDE again.. :) ),
Forgive me if this has been covered before (or elsewhere), but I was unable to find anything relevant by searching the forums and OTN.
I'm trying to import the sample Microsoft Access databases available from Microsoft (for example, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7A50205E-A29B-4A43-8508-78E549ECD14C&displaylang=en), via Access 2003, and am getting the following error message:
Error # 7866 - XMLExporter - Microsoft Office Access can't open the database because it is missing, or opened exclusively by another user .. (path-to-mdb-file) Database Schema Export did not complete successfully.
I'm on Windows XP SP2, Access 2003 SP2, and OMW Exporter version 10.2.0.1.0 (which shipped with the pre-release APEX migration utility), and there are no other users on the system that would be using the file. To make matters worse, the same error is reported for every MDB file I try to export. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this problem?

Not so much. "Highly sensitive environments," and all. This workstation is actually pretty lenient for this environment -- which is a bummer, because I was hoping to demonstrate this type of Access migration to the customer to convince them to use Application Express as a database consolidation/departmental application hosting environment, rather than Microsoft SharePoint (ick).
If anyone has any internal insights into the tool (or Access in general), and can explain what the 7866 error is, and what steps can be taken to work around it, I'd be much obliged!

10g XE and Forms Download

Hi
I have 10g Express edition on my home pc but want to also have forms and reports 6i. Can I hook up the 10g XE as a data source for the reports and forms?
I downloaded F&R but am having a lot of problems running it. I must have missed something as I have no username and passwords for it.
All I want is a simple DB and F&R to play about with.
What is my best option here?

Agreed to a point. To be honest, the Forms to APEX migration tool does do some of the work, but again lets be honest. Forms is one of the Older development products out there. If you try to Migrate Forms to ADF, you would have just as many issues, since ADF encourages you to move all the business logic from the Form to a middle tier location.
My suggestion, and I I will say it again.. IN THIS CASE, since the poster STRESSED THE IDEA OF FREE, I suggested he/she look at APEX. It also confusing to note that issue of increased processing power when introducing APEX into a database server is concerned.. How does that happen? APEX is just running pl/sql & SQL code, that the database would be running from your Forms app, right? SO you have move dthe location of the code, probably the same amount of code, plus you are NOT holding open sessions attached to form clients, since APEX uses a stateless environment that is stored in the database..
All I am saying here is, ADF is OVERKILL for a lot of projects, whereas APEX would be adequate and possible perfect for them. It seems that not alot of people know about APEX yet. This will change when 4.0 is released...

Info : Migrating Apex Application from Non-SSO to SSO environment

Hi All,
This post is to share my experience while working on APEX. This may be useful to some apex developer.
If we migrate an apex application from a non-sso (i.e. http) to sso (i.e. https) environment, the flash chart doesn't work.
I found that in the source of a Flash Chart region, we use #HOST# variable to locate the swf file. The environment variable takes the correct path but with "http" as prefix. But to access application pages "https" is used. Because of which, the swf file couldn't be located by the application.
Work-around Solution : If I hard code the value i.e. the application path having "https" replacing #HOST# variable then the flash chart works fine. I couldn't found a way by which the #HOST# parameter value can be updated to take "https".
The same environment host other non-sso applications as well.
Any comments on this are welcomed.

As I mentioned earlier, by Non-SSO I mean "http" and by SSO I mean "https". This is because, before migration the application was accessible using "http" and now we have to use "https" alongwith SSO to access the application. I only want to highlight the Flash Chart issue with this migration.
The problem doesn't solves with your solution as I am getting correct instance/environment name with #HOST# but prefixed with "http" and not "https". Hence the application won't be able to locate the required swf file.
Even the workaround I mentioned is only feasible, if an application has only few Flash Charts. However, if there are large no. of Flash charts in an application, then it would be a tedious task to update all flash chart source either by an application item (as you mentioned in your post) or hard coding the path itself. Also, every new Flash Chart source needs to be updated by a developer to fix this.
A better solution is required by which the Flash chart source is not touched and the #HOST# variable for the application is updated to take the "https" prefixed to the swf file path.

Problem with Migration Forms to Apex ...

Hello !!
I discovered Apex a few days ago, so I began with the Oracle tutorials, where I found the conversion from Forms to Apex : "Converting Your Oracle Forms Applications to Application Express 3.2".
I tried to do the same, with a Unix server and my laptop with Windows.
I downloaded the Forms which where on my Unix server on my laptop, and then converted them with frmf2xml.bat.
Then I created a project and uploaded only one Forms Module (_fmb.XML). After upload, the Percent Complete column is lower than 100%.
My problem is at the following step : "Generating Your Application Express Application".
When I click on "Create Application", select "Based on Migration Project" and then on "Next", I have one of the following errors :
- 1 error has occurred * The project, "Test Gestuser" does not contain any Blocks associated with database objects.
- 1 error has occurred * Database schema PROCIE does not contain the associated database objects for the project, login. Ensure the database schema associated with the project contains the database objects associated with the uploaded Forms Module .XML file(s)
I really don't understand these two errors, having yet checked all the possible error sources, user, schema, ... ?:|
I have probably forgotten to give some informations, so ask them ;)

I found the problem(s) ... but now I have another one !!
The problems are with the Forms : I opened them with Forms Builder and created a new Block with the assistant. Then I compared this block with another "normal" block : they haven't the same properties.
My block has an associated canvas and database source, whereas the other "normal" blocks haven't.
Where does the error come from ??
Is there something to do with Forms Builder ?
On my Unix server before downloading the forms ?
Another thing to do ??

Migrating Access DB to Oracle Hosted APEX environment

I was wondering if there was a way to migrate an Access DB to the Oracle Hosted APEX environment using the Oracle Migration Workbench? You have to specify the location of the DB and schema and I don't know this information since the DB location is on the Oracle Hosted site. I would like to evaluate the migration functionality of the APEX tool without having to download it locally along with Oracle 10G. Is there a way to do this using the Hosted website?

Invalid object error while migrating oracle forms 6i to APEX

Hi,
I have a form name abc.fmb and I did converted to xml and imported using application migration in APEX
With these I have nine PL/SQL libraries (PLL). converted it to PLD using rwconvertor and imported in APEX. Also, I have 4 tables i.e data base block in forms.
Now, when i m migrating forms to APEX it is giving an error message saying invalid objects and shows the table name and column name. But the column name that it shows is a text box in the form that is also a database item ...
eg:- addr is the block name in forms
item name dsp_name
error: invalid object

Migration from 1.6 to Apex 3.1 - Popup windows no longer working

We just moved our application to Apex 3.1 from HTMLDB 1.6. The only thing that is not working since we migrated is the popup window that used to work. Now a window still pops up, but it is the login screen, not the expected window, and even if one logs in at that point, it just takes them back to the main screen, not to the expected popup window. Is there some setting I have to change to make it work as it did before, or does the code go somewhere else now? This is the code:

First thing I would do is export all of your applications just to be safe. If you're doing a full database export / import, I believe it will work. If you're going schema by schema, it will not.
The cleanest way is to do a fresh install in your new database...

Hi Mark,
Take a look at some of the usage reports within APEX (sessions, page views etc) to get an overall feel for where the time is being consumed.
You'll also find it useful if you can run a statspack report (or AWR, ASH etc) during a busy period to be able to drill down into where that CPU is being spent.
There's no magic answers here unfortunately, you need to track it down to where the time is being spent before working back up to find out where best to tune it.

Problem with JQuery tab after migrated to APEX 4.0

My test application hosted on apex.oracle.com is using JQuery tab function and it is running well with APEX 3.2.1.
And now after the migration to APEX 4.0, it can not display the tab anymore.
Any idea how to solve this problem?

Migrate/Import/[etc.] PL/SQL Web-Toolkit Application to APEX

Hello all,
I've only recently learned about APEX and have dabbled with it for a little while, and I'm quite impressed with how amazingly quick it is to develop applications with it.
A few co-workers and myself are trying to convince "The Management" that we should pursue using APEX to develop our Enterprise Applications. Currently we write our web apps using the PL/SQL WebToolkit, accessing our applications at URL's like: http://host/dad/[package.]procedure .
Recently (within the past month) there was a convention in the Southern California region where I believe some people from TUSC presented on APEX. As I understand it, they said it was possible to migrate existing applications (written in packages and procedures) to APEX. I'm also told that it is possible to view the PL/SQL that is rendered by APEX to display the application.
We've practically sold our Director, however he has a few outstanding issues he's asked me to research, as he feels his boss would be most concerned with:
* How much effort will it take to migrate/import/etc the PL/SQL WebToolkit Application to APEX
* Should the need arise, how much effort would it take to move from APEX back to PL/SQL WebToolkit
I've tried researching these topics over the past few days and I haven't really come up with much. I realize that you can call PL/SQL packages/procedures/etc from within a region, but as I read on a thread in these forums ( How to jump from mod_plsql to APEX! ), you still won't be able to take advantage of the Items, Computations, Processes, etc. Is there, in fact, a way of importing a PL/SQL-developed Web Application into APEX to take advantage of all its tools? I would imagine it would be quite a feat to be able to create the items for the form fields, maintain the layout and such, but I need to provide my Director with as much information on these topics as possible.
Many of us developers are really excited at the prospect of developing with this tool; it would be a shame to lose the opportunity over not being able to provide any information on the topics above.

I had a client a couple of years back who had an existing PL/SQL Web Toolkit application who used the htp.p etc calls to generate the HTML (and in some cases CSS) for their site. They were interested in using Application Express and asked me to design a new administration module for their site (which I did). The development went extremely smoothly so they then asked about re-writing their existing site in APEX (since maintaining the old site was not a straight-forward task).
Fortunately for me, the original designer had the foresight to put lots of the application logic into packages (which I could reuse), but I quickly (about 2 or 3 days from memory) created a custom theme and templates in APEX which gave the same look and feel as the existing site.
Personally, I think if you tried to re-use the existing htp.p calls (by using PL/SQL regions etc), then you would be missing out on some of the major advantages of using APEX (such as the ability to easily change the look and feel of your application).
I always think that migrating to a new tool/platform etc is a great opportunity to re-examine your existing code to perhaps see if you can do things differently (speed up those queries, perhaps make the navigation more logical etc).
So, yes you can certainly re-use lots of your existing packaged logic, but I would also take the leap and use the features that Application Express provides to make future maintenance of your application easier.
