API Gateway for Backup Exec
Hello,
There is a Novell 6.5 server wiht GroupWise 7.0.3 with one running GroupWise 4.1 API Gateway v2 for NLM module. This gateway is for the FAX service via Groupwise client. I would like to install another new api gateway for Bakcup Exec to send backup results via e-mail.
Do I have to stop the running gateway(FAX) to install the new gateway for the Backup Exec?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
J.

All gateways must be shutdown when installing, since this most times
req. exclusive access to wpdomain.db
Yes, I beleave, but haven't tested, that you can run two API gateways
on the same box
Note when all this is said, that the API gateway is an old timer, and
as Dave suggested....if possible, avoid it

Backup Exec for NetWare - Replacement?
Since Symantec has discontinued support for Backup Exec for NetWare and we have dozens of tapes we will need access to for years and we do NOT want to buy a Windows Server just to read those tapes, is there any vendor selling backup software that can read those Backup Exec for NetWare tapes?
We don't care if the extended attributes can't be restored as long as we can get the data files.dsqrd wrote:

implies that since the BENW stored stuff in Microsoft Tape Format,
anyone supporting this MIGHT be able to access it.
I doubt it's that easy though. Software compression, proprietary blocks.
Meanwhile SBACKUP, Syncsort and other seem to have chosend SIDF, wwhich
was Novell's solution.
I suspect you have to call everyone, ask, and test. And I'd still guess
you have a 90% chance of being screwed. Backup software has never played
nice. -
Symantec BackUp Exec License Issue
Hey guys,
I have a license issue with Backup Exec. I have the agent licenses as well as the server license for Backup Exec 2014. But the issue is on the next screen. It gives no options to select. Am I missing something??

Dear all!
We have a big problem with NetWare 6.5 SP7 and Backup Exec 9.2.
Since the migration to a new hardware our backup is not running.
Hardware Details:
- Server: IBM x3650 7979
- Tape: Quantum LTO-3 HH, SAS-connected
Problem description:
The tape drive is recognized correctly under NetWare and Bachup Exec. Problem comes, when even trying to label a tape: ""Job completed: With ERROR - A drive failure was detected. (24623)". We also tried different tapes, also a different tape drive (which is working without problems while being attached to another (Win 2003) server).
Additional information:
- The nwtape.cdm we renamed, to prevent it from being started.
- CDMs and HAMs are from SP7.
- For Backup Exec, we are using the lastest driver package.
What is strange: we still have an "unbound object" when entering "list devices". But I do not have a clue, which driver is missing. Our startup.ncf:
LOAD ACPIDRV.PSM
######## End PSM Drivers ########
LOAD IDECD.CDM
LOAD SCSIHD.CDM
######## End CDM Drivers ########
LOAD IDEATA.HAM SLOT=10025
LOAD AACRAID.HAM SLOT=10030
######## End HAM Drivers ########
env NDSD_TRY_NMASLOGIN_FIRST=true
LOAD KEYB.NLM Germany
LOAD CHARSET.NLM CP850
Is there something missig in our startup.ncf (which may cause the backup problem)?
Any ideas, what we can do to make the backup run?
Thanks in advance,

I see no SAS driver loaded in your startup.ncf. Does that mean you have
your tape drive connected to your raid controller? If yes, that is a
configuration which is generally not recommended.

Where is API Gateway Functionality
Our GroupWise system is currently on NetWare servers. We want to move our GroupWise system to run on Windows servers.
There seems to be no API Gateway for Windows. How can I still do the things the NLM API gateway supported, when running GroupWise on Windows servers???dafitt wrote:

You can't......
But since I don't know what you used it for, then this just might be
your solution:

Back up MaxDB thru Symantec Backup Exec
Hi everyone,
I've just installed a 64-bit unicode SAP ECC 5.0 on MaxDB 7.5 in Windows 2003 x64 Enterprise.
I am now trying to figure out how to configure Symantec Backup Exec 11d to work with MaxDB so that I can do online backups. I heard that it is directly not possible, but is there a workaround for this?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
JosephHi Andreas,
That was a very good document that you recommended. It is clear enough. But the thing is I don't think NetBackup is installed to the server. The SAP-relevant options licensed and installed by the vendor for Backup Exec 11d are:
1. Agent for Oracle on Windows Servers
2. Agent for MS SQL Server
2. Agent for MS SQL Server 2000
3. Agent for SAP Applications
4. Backup Exec for Windows Servers
5. Remote Agent for Windows Servers
Do I have to install NetBackup or does it have a counterpart in 11d?
Thanks again,
Joseph -

I've set up a system to do some testing. I have a GW8 Domain with a single PO and a GWIA. I also have a GW7 domain with a PO, GWIA, and the API gateway.
My issue is I have the GWIA(s) set to db version 4.x to use the API Gateway. However when I send external messages I get the following format [email protected] With the server after the right of the @ these will all get an NDR from external systems. When the GWIA db version is set to 5 or better i get the format i would expect [email protected] However with 5 or better I can't use the API gateway for what i'm trying to use it for.
Is there any way to change the format of the internet address to at least remove the server component after the @ with the db version at 4.x?gregatghij,

Backup Exec 12.5 and Rac database
We always use rman to backup and restore our rac database without problems but now we would like to try with Backup Exec 12.5. Yesterday we installed the server for backup exec and the oracle agent for linux and by the way we did a full backup of our Rac database. The problems was when we tried to restore it. When we restore a single database it work but when we try with RAC it does not work.
Questions:
Is there a different agent for oracle Rac database or it is the same?
Are there aditional steps to configure the agent for Rac database?
I really appreciate your help.++We are using flash recovery area and all archive logs, flash back logs and backup sets go in there? The system administrator wants to back up the full directory of flash recovery area. Would that be enough? Is a backup of oracle home is needed?+
Normally there is no need to take oracle backup home , if yours FRA contain baskupset for database files (controlfile,db files),archivelogs ,flashback logs. You should also consider the pfile if you are not using spfile, spfile itself contain in RMAN backupsets.
Consider yours oracle binary backup (i.e cold backup) before any maintainance (patching activity).
Read http://oraware.blogspot.com/2008/07/fra-capacity-planning.html
Are there any backup settings required before backing up files while the database is on, like setting them in backup mode or etc?
yes for online database should be in archivelog mode,if you are using RMAN then there is no any setting required before backup , using RMAN you just have to connect with target database and start online backup using yours own backup script.
Any documentation discussing the backup steps, and what needs to be backed up will be appreciated

Assigning multiple interfaces for Oracle API Gateway (OAG)
We are deploying Oracle API Gateway to throttle our incoming API requests. We would like to keep the incoming external API requests separate from the internal configuration management so that they go through different interfaces when accessing the OAG server. This is mainly for security reasons so that the external people won’t have access to the interface used by internal operations team to manage OAG. Based on your experience, is there any standard best practice to accomplish this? We were thinking to perhaps use two of the server’s network interfaces with different IPs, one for the incoming API requests and the other for the internal admin management of OAG. But not sure if this is the best way to do what we need. We are aware of OAG's capability to support two separate ports to handle this situation, but would like a more secure set-up that could completely eliminate external access to the OAG management done by the IT team.
Would appreciate any thoughts on best practices used regarding multiple interfaces for OAG set-up. Thank you. Oracle Marketing Cloud. You are on the right track.
Here is how you can achieve this:
You can use multiple network interfaces on the UNIX machine and setup networking/routing in such a way that all external traffic comes on on one card and is routed internally via a different card.
Segregate difference types of services (i.e to be used by external clients vs internal apps) into difference different "Service Groups". Have each of these service groups listen on different port + NIC card (under Listeners, you can define a port to list to list on a specific network address and port instead of *).
Setup additional protection for services that will be accessed by external clients. Use "Threatening Content " filter to protect your services.
Setup 2 way SSL for the interface that will be called by external clients. Setup a DN based authorization check if you want to have both authentication and authorization.
Hope this helps.

Backup exec for netware 9.2
Does anyone out there have a IDR license key for BEN 9.2 that they would be willing to share? Thanks,

If they do have a license key then they should not share it as I believe
it's licensed software!
I suggest that you try contacting Symantec who produce Backup Exec.

Cool Solutions: GroupWise Snapins for the API Gateway
Guys, the GW55SP5SNAPINS.zip are the correct ones to use, not the ones on Coolsolutions 19293.html. Download the zip, expand it and then copy expanded files in the root of the \public\win32 directory.

Groupwise 7 Gateway for Exchange
I am testing the Novell Groupwise Gateway for Exchange SP2. I have already tested the API Gateway but wanted to try the newer version because it will be supported for awhile. I downloaded the install and went through all the instructions. I am using Groupwise 7.0.1 and Exchange 2003. The install went fine and the configurations are correct but I must be missing something. When I go to start the Gateway Application it starts then stops. I checked on the GW MTA and it says the link is Closed. The reason the link it closed it says can't create directories. I checked the Gateway application and it shows Groupwise link closed and other link Open. I logged into a ws as the same user to check the rights and I was able to create a new directory in the domain directory. I changed the logging to verbose on the Exchange Gateway to see if I can see an error and it says trying to re-establish GW link.

Hello,
I´m with some doubts regarding an error that I´m facing right now. We need to setup a RMAN tool for we can do backup of our SAP system (with Oracle Database) but it show me the following error when I insert the user name PRDADM ( which is the <sid>adm).
I don´t know which user we need to use at this stage and which privileges it needs to work and make the backup action of this oracle database.

Can you help me please. Can you tell me which user I need to use?!
Kind regards,
samid raifHello samid,
Try this...
In Symantec tool (Backup Exec) you have to insert the following information:
In "Database Access" tab, you must use an OS user with the required privileges which are described in the following article from Symantec:
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH63665
In "Oracle" tab you need to add which oracle db instance you want to connect and also you need to insert an oracle user! For this I would suggest you to create a specific user for this backup procedure (<orauser>):
create user <orauser> identified by <orauser password>;
Then you need to add the required privileges for this oracle user, which are mentioned in the following article from Symantec:
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH82892
Now I guess you have all you need to run a backup without problems!
Kind regards,
João Dimas
