Api to give group access to a folder

I need to give a group access to a specfic content area folder. There are api's
which create groups and add users to them. I have not found one that takes a
group and gives it access to a specific folder in a content area. Is there such an
API?

  • Best way to give access to Library folder, etc.

    Hello.
I have someone in our studio who needs to access various directories within the root Library folder (mainly for dealing with web/wiki file editing) — what's the best way to give them access to the server for this (assuming they'll be accessing the xserve from another machine on the LAN and not directly logging in on the Xserve itself as it's in a secure room in a rack)?
I tried using File Sharing and creating aliases or symbolic links to the requires locations, but that didn't seem to work.
FYI, all users are set up via an OD Master (if that helps)?
    Regards,
    Kristin.

    Hi Kristin,
What you are describing is a developer having access to files on the server that a running service is using. A common developer situation: modifying and editing files on a remote machine but not in use by the service. The service needs to be restarted to put the modifications into service.
A setup I'm familiar with is more tolerant of the interaction and provides backup in case things go awry. A repository on the server (subversion or git) is setup to accept versions of the file directories used by a service. Then the latest version is checked out to the service directory. The service is stopped and restarted to load this latest version. If things are not working correctly, then a rollback can be performed to restore service to the previous running version. The developer is provided an ssh connection on the lan to keep secure file transfers to and from the repository.
Using a tool such as Capistrano provides the automated mechanism to restart service and load any configuration data that may be required. Rollback is just as simple.
This approach means the service is up as much as possible. Development and testing is accomplished on a remote machine, not the server. Version control is maintained and a backup of known tested files is available for rollback. Lastly, the control of bringing online a new file or capability is allowed in a controlled manner. Security of access to files is limited to those allowed an ssh connection to the repository.
With subversion preloaded on OS 10.5 Server and git easy to install it is a straightforward solution.

  • Creating a workflow to give permissions to a SharePoint folder using Impersonation Step

    Hi There,
I have been tasked with creating a workflow in my organise that will allow our users with (Contributor access) to grant people access upon creating a folder in our Shared Documents library.
Currently when our users create a folder, they need to logged a call with site administrators to granted the relevant people access to the folder and its contents.
Is it possible to create a solution that will kick off automatically upon creation of a folder and allow the Creator Only to grant a subset of users permissions to the folder using the Impersonation Step?
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
    Regards
    Tibz

    Hi There
    Thank you for your response.
I managed to create a workflow that can be started automatically upon the creation of a folder in my document library. I then added an Impersonation step where I used the "Remove list Item Permissions" & "Add List Item Permissions" actions.
The challenge I am faced with is on the Remove Permissions action, I want to remove all inherited permissions for all existing users and only leave Users with Full Control. Is there a way to select All Existing Users in one function and perhaps
pass that as a "Selected Users" parameter? Currently I have to select the users/groups individually and there are over 100 existing users/groups to choose from.
Any thoughts on how I can work around this?
    regards Tibz

  • Cannot display the folder. Microsoft Outlook cannot access the specified folder location.

    Hi, guys
I cannot view delegate mailbox in Outlook. Following is my configure.
    I have two mailbox A-User and B-User
Login Outlook as A-User, click File -> Account Settings -> Delegate Access, add B-User and give Editor permission of Inbox.
Right click A-User's root inbox and select Properties -> Permission, select B-User and check "Folder visible".
Login Outlook as B-User on other computer, click File -> Account Settings -> Account Settings, select B-User and click Change -> More Settings -> Advanced, add A-User.
Now I can see a root A-User in Navigation Pane. But when I click it, it shows
"Cannot display the folder. Microsoft Outlook cannot access the specified folder location."
    or
"Cannot display the folder. Microsoft Outlook cannot access the specified folder location. The operation failed. An object cannot be found".
I searched some solutions from internet, but all of them don't work. Could you give some suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
First, please double check if you have given the right permission to B-User on your step 2.
In addition, we can try to give a higher permission to the B-user to check the result.
Please feel free to post back and let me know the result.

  • Problem adding members to a contact group in a public folder with EWS

I am trying to create contacts and contact groups in a public folder on Exchange 2013 using EWS 2.1 managed API.
In Outlook 2013, I can see the contacts and groups created. However, when I open the group and try to open a contact from the group, I get the following error:
Could not find contact "john doe ([email protected]". It may have been deleted or moved from its original location.
Would you like to remove it from the list?
I tried different methods to add the contact members to the groups, all with the same result.
If I manually add the contact to the group, or if I create the contacts and groups in a private folder, it works fine.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Are the contacts you added to the group in your contacts? If the shared contacts folder is not in your profile and enabled as an address book, you can't add their contacts to a group. (The mailbox needs to be opened as a mailbox for the contacts folder
to be enabled as an address book. )

  • New Group - Access Level

    Hi,
In CMC ->Users and Groups ->Group Hierarchy, I right-click and create New Group.
Then righ-click on the newly created Group ->User Security, I can see the Administrator is appears in there (in Add Principle).
Why? Does it mean this newly created Group has adminstrator right?
I just want to create a Group (with Display access so that user can execute the crystal report in CMC etc), how to do this?

    Hi,
You can see the "Administrator" in the user security page, because "Administrator " group has some set of permission to that . It does not mean that the group you have created has Administrator rights.
    Answer for your 2nd question:
Create a new group and grant the required permission for the newly created group. If the folder contains only crystal reports then you can handle it in folder level rights.

  • Urgent to group and show the folder metadata base on profile in UCM

    Hi All,
My requirement is I have to group and show the folder metadata for folder creation, updating and information based on profile.
Suppose If I want to create, update and information a HR folder that time I have to show only HR metadata
If I want to create, update and information a FINANCE folder that time I have to show only FINANCE metadata
If I want to create, update and information a standard folder that time I have to show only standard metadata
    Example
Someone accessing a ‘standard’ folder would not see the HR group of metadata fields; instead they should just see the ‘standard’ profile metadata fields for said folder. Conversely, when someone is accessing a ‘HR’ folder, they should see the ‘HR document’ metadata profile for that folder.
Please help me is there any way which can I approach this by through configuration.
    Thanks in advace

I checked the standard behaviour. When I create few profiles I am able to choose the profile I want while creating a new folder (there is an option Switch Profile).
Therefore, the only thing that remains is auto-select the profile you want to use. Note that profiles by default are selected by the Trigger Field (configured in Configuration Manager). This means you need to combine requirements you have for your folders and for your content items. This can be quite challenging. However, you can also 'Use rule activation condition', which is assigned to rules contained in the profile. There, you can work with any metadata and other system variables (like checkin vs. search defined in dpAction - see this link for further details: Value of dpAction
In your case, you could use folder name, or create a surrogate metadata field containing list of values and use it.

  • Restrict workgroup computers in accessing my shared folder

How to restrict workgroup computers in accessing my shared folder.
And only allow a specific system in the workgroup to have full control access to that shared folder.
    Operating System :Windows Server 2003

    Hi Tiju,
You cannot restrict access to a folder using computer accounts. The access to the share folder can only giving to everyone or local accounts if the network environment is
    Workgroup.
Because the computer account never tries to access the shared folders. The access attempt is made by the user account; and if the user account isn't in the ACL of the file, he won't get access.

  • How can a Win2K/XP user access my Shared folder as Guest?

Well, it's all in the question, guys. I don't want them to be able to log into my machine. All they need to do is send me some files or take some of mine from \Users\Shared. Surely it shouldn't be too difficult, right?
We're in an office wired LAN and I'm the only Mac among many incarnations of Windoze. Right now they all have to log in as 'Administrator' (just the accoune name, not the kind of account, of course...) but it means that I have to fiddle with the permissions of the shared dir in that user account so I can access it from my regular account ('Alex') and I would prefer something more straight forward. Such as a Guest User log-in option.
    Many thanks.

Try Sharepoints. I'm not certain about this, but I think the only way to get access to a Mac over the network is to have an account on the Mac. So, you could set up "guest" as an account and let them log in as that, but it wouldn't give them access to the Shared folder. Sharepoints will let you "share" it out.

  • Problem accessing smb shared folder

    Hi,
I have Linux Ubuntu server in which i have shared folder. Now the problem is from my home (internet) I have connected to vpn connection and trying to access shared folder but it gives an error saying
"Connection Failed - The Server "my hostname" may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name of ip address, check your network connection and then try again.
But when access same shared folder from any cyber centre (internet cafe) it works fine.
    Please help
    Thanks,
    Gulab Pasha

I'm not sure how that's better than Get Info and clicking the Locked checkbox.
In any case, there are a bunch of these. We use a source control system that is not available for the Mac. All the source code that we have to work on is going to be locked.
What I'd really like to know is whether this is a bug in SL, or is there some setting that I can make that would make SL work like Leopard.

  • Access to Guest Folder requires login when accessed from Portal/SSO

We have wired XML-P to use OID and then registered it as a Partner Application in our Portal/SSO server (which also uses the same OID instance). All works well except now when we try to access the Guest folder from within Portal the SSO login screen pops-up. We have created a very simple HTML/URL portlet that points to the Guest folder and the idea is for users to have Public/anonymous access to this folder. Any ideas?

    Hi,
You can try to enable "Turn on password protected sharing" in Network Sharing Center. After that, only people with a user name and password on the computer will be able to log into shared network folders.
Another workaround method you can try:
Open Run, type rundll32.exe keymgr.dll, KRShowKeyMgr, then Press
    Enter.
In the prompt dialog, choose and delete the user account used to network sharing.

    Hello:
Thank you for the update for remote access for desktops.
Personally, I do not want to give remote access to anyone but myself as privacy is my friend.  Can this remote desktop software still be for me personally unless I allow access and for my MAC lap top only?  What if I do not update? I do use this lap top in other countries.  compatibility issues with what?

Apple Remote Desktop is off be default. It has to be enabled for some one to be able to remotely connect to the computer. And then, you still have to have a user name and password on the computer to remotely connect with.
If you want to see if remote access has is enabled for Apple Remote Desktop; you can find the setting in, Apple Menu, System Prefrences, Sharing. If it's enabled, Remote Management or Screen Sharing will be checked.
Beucase Apple Remote Desktop Agent is part of the Mac Operating System; even if your not using it, Apple Software Updates will from time to time offer updates for ARD Agent. Software Updates can some times be stacked ontop of each other; so chosing not to install an update, can mean other updates you may want may not be offered. At least until you install the updates those updates require. Also software updates can improve the security of your computer.
