APO-DP Functionalities

Hello
I have few queries regarding the funcionality of APO-DP, these are as under:
1)Are we able to do editing unconstrained demand and creating a revised work-in-process forecast while retaining the original unconstrained submission.
2)Is there functionality available for identifying significant differences for a given month between forecast cycle. Example: January forecast for activity in the month of June vs. February’s forecast for activity in the same month of June.
3)Is the functionality allows for the creation of a final consensus forecast that accounts for adjustments and constraints.
4)Is distribution of forecaasts possible.
5)Is there any functionality that accounts for a sales channel’s historical consumption.
6)Is the system functionality able to calculate statistically generated forecast suggestions using various models checked for best fit.
7)Does the system support demand driven replenishment for various inventory stocking points.
Inputs for DDR should be items like safety stock, demand variability, supply variability, lead time, and lead variability.
8)Is the system able to generate report on forecast error and forecast accuracy.

Hello Jitender -
I have few queries regarding the funcionality of APO-DP, these are as under:
1)Are we able to do editing unconstrained demand and creating a revised work-in-process forecast while retaining the original unconstrained submission.
-- you can have a copy of the original unconstrained demand by saving the results and also you can revise it.
2)Is there functionality available for identifying significant differences for a given month between forecast cycle. Example: January forecast for activity in the month of June vs. February’s forecast for activity in the same month of June.
-- You are talking about forecast accuracy report. there is an inbuilt functionality for this report as in where u can show the previous forecast plan for the previous month depending on the business requirement.
3)Is the functionality allows for the creation of a final consensus forecast that accounts for adjustments and constraints.
-- It all depends on how you want to do consensus. Get the specific final forecasted KF from all the planning books from the various department into the consensus planning book.(thats one way of doing it)
4)Is distribution of forecaasts possible.
-- yes it is. you have to look at the proportional factors that are available and distribute the forecast results accordingly.
5)Is there any functionality that accounts for a sales channel’s historical consumption.
-- did not get this? if you are talking about using historical data for forecast purpose yes you can otherwise how are you going to do forecast?
6)Is the system functionality able to calculate statistically generated forecast suggestions using various models checked for best fit.
-- depending on the forecast model you chose, the smoothing factors u fill in, the system calculates it behind the scene for you and generates the number for you to view.but you ought to understand the logic as to what kind of calculation is done and how it helps you.
7)Does the system support demand driven replenishment for various inventory stocking points.
-- gurus Answer.
Inputs for DDR should be items like safety stock, demand variability, supply variability, lead time, and lead variability.
8)Is the system able to generate report on forecast error and forecast accuracy.
yes the functionality has to be activated.
Hope this helps.

  • Upgrade APO 3.0 to SCM 5.0 SR2 (requirements in source system)

    Hello!:
We want to do and upgrade upgrade APO 3.0 to SCM 5.0 SR2
And we have seen the Guides SCM5.0 SR2 and SCM5.0 SR3, but appears info in the page 26 only about check the software requirements from APO 3.0 to SR3, but we want to check the information about APO3.0 to SR2.
    Regards,
    Alfredo.

    Alfredo,
This is not a easy question, since you are several releases behind on APO. I have done upgrade from APO 3.0 to SCM 4.1 and then subsequently to 5.0 so there were lots of learnings specific to the Projects and develoments.  The Setup being different in different industries and companies, there is no one answer to this question.  Try  the following ...
    -  Read the Release Notes of SCM 3.1, 4.0, 4.1,  5.0.  You will see a Host of New Functionalities - Newer in SNP, PPDS, TPVS,  Master Data (PDS along with PPMs).
I do not know what functionality you are live with in APO 3.0.
On the Existing Setup that you may find changed, I remember the following big changes ...
    - GUI Changes are galore in master data, less
    - SNP Side -  Changes in TLB Engine & TLB Prioritization.
                     - Deployment Split Functionality
                     -  Changes in User Exits (old code would not work).  You will find this painfull if you've implemented User Exits. eg : If you were determining OrderTypes in orders sent from APO to R3.  TLB User Exits. Lesser changes in Masterdata userexits.
                      -  Newer fields in Master Data (eg : SNP Checking Horizon in Product Master and it's implications on Deployment & TLB. ).
                     - Subcontracting Planning in APO.
    - Enhancements in VMI.
    - Use of Parallel Processing for all Modules planning.
    - Enhancements in Aggregated Planning
    - Enhancements in Product Interchangeability.
    - Several Newer Functionalities like ICH to make/replace the earlier Collaborative Planning better.
    - Master Data several changes (eg : PDS)
    - Several improvements in CoreInterface Function and Que Issues. In 4.0 onwards there is new functionality around CIF Postprocessing
    - Use of Process Chains to streamline Batch Jobs and especially BI Loads into Cubes and Planning Areas.
    - Several enhancements in PPDS (newer heuristics), Alerts
    - BW underwent a Major change from BW 2.0 to BW 3.0 to now BI 7.0 which impacts Setup for Demand Planning.  eg : The InfoCube got renamed to InfoProviders.
I suggest you start with the Release Notes.  Form a List of your Test Scenarios, then Upgrade in your Development and start to Test. Don't plan less, but more time for testing since you are undergoing a several releases change.  First start to get your Existing Business Scenarios documented as Test Scripts in Order.
I STRONGLY recommend doing a Technical Upgrade Only (i.e : do not upgrade Major Functionality unless there is no other way).  In Summary for SURE SCM 5.0 is a Much better and Stable System than APO 3.0.
Hope this helps.  Reward Points If you find it usefull.

  • APO (SNP)/BW Best Practices

    Hi experts,
I have several reporting requirements using BW and APO - SNP.
I´d like to know what´s the best way to acomplish this requirements. Is it best to store the data first on infocubes on APO and then extract these data to BW, or use the standard extractors, or use ABAP routines and BAPI?
    Any help is welcome.
    Thanks in advance.
    T.P.

    Hi T.P.
I would suggest you can create infocubes for various types of data, then carry out the extraction into BW and then use it for various reporting functionalities.  Please ensure taking back up of data on a periodical basis so that in case of any crash incidences, the data can be retrievable.
Hope this helps your query.  Please confirm

  • Difference between SAP/APO/DP and the SAP/CRM solution for forecasting

    Hi,
Can you please help me identifying the main differences between SAP/APO/DP and the SAP/CRM solution for forecasting? Advantages and disadvantages?
    Thanks a lot

    Hi LCD777,
Forecasting at DP & CRM are altogether at different entities.  CRM involves webbased data transfer mechanism tool whereas DP is database/livecache driven tool.
In CRM, you dont get optimised solution of forecasting out of it whereas in DP you can get as much as
optimised solution & flexibility as per your requirements.
DP is majorly a forecasting tool where in huge statistical method functionalities are embedded in
whereas CRM is majorly a transactional tool wherein it involves gathering of forecast data and executing it.
Typically, CRM will be integrated with DP containing GATP environment & ECC so that DP will plan for forecast data, ECC system drives sales order data & GATP calls for availability check and finally
the forecast execution& transactions will be controlled by CRM

  • Why we need live cache along with RDB in APO

    Hello Expert,
I recently entered to APO module so want to know about live cache and why we really need comparing to RDB and what RDB cannot do that live cache can do?

    SRS,
Functionalities are pretty much the same.  LiveCache is a relational Database, built on MaxDB.
Advantage of LC is that most of the data is stored in memory rather than on disk storage.  Data access and retrieval is substantially faster from memory than from disk storage.

  • Distribution Planning within SAP - APO 3.0 or SCM 4.0

    Hi,
Can do any 'Distribution Planning' within SAP SCM V4.0 or V5.0.
We are trying to  improve  'decision-making' associated with selection of a particular warehouse  for shipments coming out of a specific plant. The application should be able to produce a recommended set of shipments by week from each plant. Critical inputs that go into the process will be (a) Procurement Forecast; (b) Production Forecast; (c) Warehouse Space; (d) Production Plan etc
Can this be done utilizing SAP APO 3.0, SCM 4.0 or SCM 5.0?
    Thanks

    Hi Tushar,
APO 3.0, SCM 4.0 nd SCM 5.0 all provide replenishment, distribution and deployement along with basic transportation planning functionalities wihin SNP (Suppluy Network Module) of APO. With SCM 5.0 you get other applications (along with APO) like EWM (Extended Warehouse Management) and better transportation planning features.
Moreover it makes sense to go in for the lastest version of the solution to get the latest set of features. Please check on help.sap.com under my SAP Business Suite >> SCM >> APO >> SNP or http://www.sap.com/solutions/business-suite/scm/featuresfunctions/index.epx for more details.

  • Test Plan APO

    Hi all,
I would ask a favor, I need help to make a test plan for APO system. What would be the test plan to determine if it is well implemented in APO.
    Thanks for your help
    Rob

    Hi Rob,
I guess the answer for this may not fit in this space. But you can start identifying all the functionalities in the APO system you have built.
Perform the unit test for all of the functionalities separately and then go ahead with the scenarios with integration with other functionalities.
It again depends on what sub modules you have implemented in your APO instance.

anything you want to know in specific  you can add on as a question here
and trust me ... APO is what you need for planning system not R3 which is an execution system though you can manage a few functionalities there

  • Difference between BW-APO and BW

    Hi,
I would like to know what are the differences between BW-APO and Standard BW? I need to gather the Basic InfoObjects and Info Cubes for Demand Planning(DP)for Sales Data. Please advice what are the BC cubes can be used for DP for Sales Data?
When I execute transaction RSA1 in APO, I get all the features of BW like data modeling, Business content etc. Of course, DP will have many functionalities that won't be available in BW e.g. Planning Book etc.
Second part of the question is why should a customer implement separate BW and a separate APO system when BW features are available in APO? I appreciate your suggestions.
    Thanks for your time

    Hi dear,
the APO Shipment includes an embedded SAP BW which is mostly used for the SAP APO Demand Planning application.
An external SAP BW System integrated with SAP APO can be used as a reporting system if required.
Moreover, it is possible to use BW within the APO for reporting, however it might have some effects on the performance...so, the priority of reporting in the discussed environment has to be clearly defined.
There are several reasons why a customer wants to keep BW and APO as one instance.
One might be the lower investment; another one the reduction of complexity and maintenance.
If this is really the case depends very much on the reporting requirements. Thus it has to be checked how many users would work with the APO-system as BW-users. Since APO is designed and tuned for planning functions it is likely that a parallel tuning for the BW demands will contradict with the earlier made settings.
Two different instances for APO and BW is the recommended approach by SAP.
BW serves as a Data Consolidation and Reporting tool whereas APO is dedicated to specific planning functions. Information necessary for planning can be retrieved from BW using the DATAMART-Interface.
    Hope it helps !
    Bye,
    Roberto

  • Pros and cons Demand Planning in APO or ECC

    Hello,
is there a paper/pdf out there describing the pros and cons of DP in APO and ECC. We are planning to implement demand planning and are in an evaluation face whether to go with an APO solution or not. The financial aspect is not an issue. We already have the licensing in place for APO and ECC.
Which solution provides better flexibility and usability? Have any of you guys got experience with implementing demand planning in a non-manufacturing orgnisation. That is we are looking for a tool to forecast/plan external and internal procurement.
    Any suggestions are  welcome.

    Hi ,
Definitely APO DP have many advantage over ECC.
=> More Flexibility than ECC demand management
=> Complex statistical tool can be used for forecasting
=> Complex macros can be build as per the business need
=> Easy visilbility & maintenance of the data
=> Advance Demand planning functionalities like Promotional planning, LCM, Management decisions, etc can be incorporated easily.
Also refer the details provided in the below thread for more details:

  • APO in AFS Industry

    Good Day Gurus!
May I know if APO supports the Apparel and Footwear Industry? Thanks!

    Hi
    Yes.APO Supports AFS Industry  Too.
The SAP Supply Chain Management (SAP SCM) application enables companies in the apparel and footwear industry to anticipate consumer behavior (including the impact of promotions) and forecast demand more accurately. The SAP SCM application combines distribution and transportation functionalities to support demand-driven replenishment for maximum profitability.Retailers and carriers can be seamlessly integrated into the supply chain processes.

  • DP IN APO

    Hi guys,
I am planning to do just DP module of APO (or should i
    do all the modules).
how is the market for it. How will it help
a BW consultant in his career.
    Thanks
    Due points will be assigned

    Hi ,
Since APO system itself has all the BW functionalities present in it and only that you need to know extra in DP technically is regarding PLanning Area setup, Forecast Models , Forecasting Cycles, Releasing the data to other Modules of SAP i,e SNP etc
It will be an Add value to BW consultant as he will already has knowledge on Modeling,ETL and Reporting . So getting data to APO for forecasting will not be problem at all . Learning DP you can know about Supply chain Business process throughly...

  • APO in Utilties

    Hi Experts,
This is a very broad question. But still I would like to have all valuable insights.
    1) Is APO ever used in Utilities Industry i.e. Gas/Water/Electricity Domain
    2) If yes, then which functionality of APO is suitable?
    3) Are there any practical examples of use of APO in Utilities; - to be precise in Transmission & Distribution arena?
    Regards,
    Rohit

After going through Pankaj and Ken's replies I did a bit of Google search on Utilities industry business requirements. The search results plus based on my earlier brief industry experience in Captive Cogeneration Power Plant engineering here are few points I could come up with.
For this discussion I am just considering conventional (coal or gas-based) Power Plants. These plants being capital intensive ideally need to run at their peak capacity (Plant Load Factor). So most power plants do not look at the demand but keep on generating at max PLF. In case there are multiple units (turbines ) at a power generation plant then depending on the load (customer demand) the decision would be to shut down one unit (turbine). However depending on the type of fuel that can be an inefficient operation. For example for a coal-based plant the shut-down and subsequent start-up time is farily high (measured in 8 hour shifts). On the other hand for liquid or gas fuel based plants (like oil, natural gas, naptha) the shut-down to start-up operation is quite fast (measured in half hours).
Whatever is the case demand management is important for utilities industry but not in terms of day-to-day planning for generation. It's either long-term planning (decision to shut down a unit for preventive maintenance etc.) or very short-term planning (sudden peaking of load due to another power plant trip in the grid etc.)
So really Production Planning or Demand Planning module is not a good fit.
On the other hand - apart from generation, transmission and distribution is other area. Here again as far as my knowledge goes, in developed countries there are huge inter-connected grids with control centers which act as brokers between generation (suppliers) and distribution (consumers) companies. These centres are quite specialised with power trading (matching of demand and supply) carried out in at least 15 minute intervals (if not less). Such a granular supply demand matching process depends on specialised automated optimization solutions.
While there are APO functionalities (potentially CTM) which can carry out such Demand Supply Matching, I do not think they are good anough to plan in quch a quick-changing scenario. For example if the CTM run has to be done in every 15 minutes with a different CTM profile (since master data like plants, capacities) then the results and interpretation of it will not leave much time.
But there is one area - Service Parts Planning where there can be a potential use of APO. There are a number of parts requiring servicing at specified intervals (preventive maintenance) or just inventory in case of failure both in generation (like boiler pump bearing, gaskets, piping etc.) and transmission & distribution (transformers?, wires, towers, switch gears). In these cases the business requirement would be to forecast the service parts requirement, decide on the optimal service parts inventory and its location. Service Parts Planning module of APO can definitely help in that.
Well that's my 2 cents on this issue. No doubt its an interesting and stimulating discussion and any feedback will be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Somnath

  • All Open Sales Orders in APO system

    Hi Experts,
We have a requirement in which we have to get all open sales orders in SAP APO system for 2013.  Please suggest if there is some way to do this.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Manjunatha,
RRP1 will list all the requirements: sales orders, forecast, dependent demand, putchase order release, etc.
Same than in all the ALV reports, you can change the layout, sort, use filters in order to only see the document that you need, etc.
Here you can an example of my system, where you have sales orders in RRP1:
