APO TPVS vs SAP TM

Hi,
Can anyone give me a brief description of what the difference is between APO TPVS and SAP TM (Transportation Management). Also what would be pros and cons to implementing either module. Also is there an interface between SAP TM and R/3.
Currently we have R/3 installed but not APO.

Dear Rob,
SAP TMS is a new development after APO TP/VS. TMS has got all the features of APO TP/VS plus some additional features.
TMS has got tight integration with R/3.

APO TPVS Resource weight volume changes

Dear all,
We are using SCM7.0 APO TPVS. We need to change thewt volume of the MOT and its resources. The resource is assigned to a planing version. In order to unassign the MOT from the planning version for changing the wt /vol its taking around 3 hrs.we raised a call to sap they say bcoz of huge data in live cache this is happening. asked us to delete daya from live cache like orders etc.
We have around 150 MOT changes to be done.
Is there any way we can change the WT/VOL of the MOT and resource without unassigning the MOT from the planning version.

How do Changes in shipment made in ECC get updated in APO TPVS?

Hi All,
Suppose a shipment is created in APO TPVS and transfered to ECC. Now After shipment has started I get to know that due to some issues shipments will end 3 days after the planned date. Say Shipment start date is 1 st and planned end date is 5th of the month. Now on 2nd of the month I get to know that due to vehicle break down there will be a delay of 3 days and shipment will end on 8th of the month. Is it possible to change the planned end date in ECC so that same gets updated in APO as well.So that same can be captured in next planning run and resource will not be planned again till 8th.

Hi Saurav,
You have genuine query.
I have seen the details of Carrier assigned in ECC going back and updating APO. However, for the resource it might be difficult.
You can try looking at different options available in function module "CIF_SHIPMENT_SEND".
I guess this might help you in proceeding further.

I assume you are referencing SAP R/3 4.7 and SAP ECC 6.0 in your post below and the functionalities provided by LES (Logistics Execution), specifically Logistics Execution Transportation.
Please note that this forum has a focus on SAP Transportation Management which is a new application in the SAP space. It is a designed as a standalone application and resides outside of R/3 respectively ECC.
The initial version of SAP TM was SAP TM 6.0, in the meantime we are on SAP TM 7.0.
I can only encourage you to study the material available on the Service Marketplace at http://service.sap.com/scm-tm or also on the BPX WIKI at Transportation Management [original link is broken] to understand the differences between the solution offerings.

Documentation for SAP APO

Gurus,
Anyone has good documentation for APO DP and SNP. I heard there are cubes and DSOs on the APO side also so wanted to learn more about that. Any pointers/information will be really helpful.
Is APO the product SAP is going with or it is being replaced with something else?Thanks.

What is the future of SAP APO?

Standard support for SAP APO which is a part of SAP SCM 7.0 will be stopped in 2025. After that, what will happen (apart from extended paid support) ? Which one of the following is correct?
New version of SAP SCM Powered by SAP HANA will replace SAP SCM 7.0. So, APO will not change much, though it will have added capabilities because of new SAP HANA platform.
Though SAP IBP is not a substitute SAP APO currently, it will have SAP APO capabilities as well in future and will eventually replace SAP APO.
SAP IBP will replace both SAP APO and SAP HANA based APO.
Even SAP didn’t plant that yet. It has not released a plan or road map yet. So, anything might happen.
Does S4HANA have planning functions? If yes, where will it stand in SAP’s portfolio of planning products, in future?

Below details are based on notes which I had written in the past and it may not be accurate.
As per my knowledge on SAP's new SCM Strategy, Integrated Business Planning solution comprises sales and operations Planning, Inventory Planning, Demand and Supply Planning. IBP(Integrated Business Planning solution) will not include GATP/PP-DS. GATP will part of Logistics and order fulfillment and will be clubbed on ECC side.
SAP IBP will come with the speed of the SAP HANA platform and with/without SAP Cloud option. Logistics and order fulfillment (ECC) track will focus on solutions in the areas - customer service, distribution and fulfillment and logistic network. Focus is definitely on end-to-end and advance visibility, tight integration/consolidation, real time planning/execution and analytics etc and HANA will be on the spotlight.
SAP definitely has a great vision and positive step forward for developing more integrated, technologically powerful and user-centric solution. Now they must execute on that vision to make it real, since they are many hurdles too - one of them current APO installed base.
SAP APO may still be required to support some operational and optimization features and but others areas/features of APO are expected to merge completely with ERP or IBP side or may be something else.
Standard support for APO will stop in 2020. however extended support will be available beyond 2020 for 3-5 years period.

Does SAP generate COMMIT WORKS when BAdIs end?

I want to call a function module "IN UPDATE TASK" from within a BAdI.
Will SAP generate a "COMMIT WORK" when the BAdI ends, so that the function module is triggered ?
If I do have to code a COMMIT WORK in the BAdI to trigger execution of the FM, won't this interfere with any commit schedules that SAP has in mind ????

I agree with you - that's why I asked the question about whether I had to code my own "commit" in the BAdI - I have never had to do this before.
But the good news is - even though I'm calling the FM "IN UPDATE TASK" from an SCM-APO CIF BAdI, SAP generates a commit work because my FM fires even when I don't have an explicit commit work in the BAdI.
So all is well that ends well.

ABAP for APO Module

HI All,
I'm just wondering how the ABAP work in APO module. Will it be same as if all other modules of SAP like SD, MM, FI etc or Its different from regular ABAP, for example HR-ABAP. I know HR abap is different from Normal ABAP, as we use more Macros, FMs, Infotpes(I worked on HR-ABAP & Normal) instead of select statements.
If anybody here in this ABAP development forum had worked on ABAP for APO modules, can please through some light on this.

APO is one of the component of SAP so it uses same ABAP programming..There is no major differences in terms of coding.

MRP type field in Product view of APO

Dear Experts,
I am developing a querry based report on product master of APO for reconcillation purpose.
I couldnt find field MRP type in product master (/sapapo/mat1) also couldnt track any table which will report MRP type to me.
Could you please help me in this.

Hi Sachin,
You will not find MRP type in APO system, the reason is only specific MRP type have flexibility to plan in APO, that means SAP standard.
MRP type X0 means external planning - APO system.

Loading sales from R3 to BW and from BW to APO

I am Suvecha having little bit knowledge in APO. I want to know about the exact sense of "LOADING DATA FROM R/3 TO BW AND BW TO APO". Also clarify me whether it is APO BW or SAP BW. Also send me the exact scenario in real time.

HI Suvecha,
The APO scenario can be of two types. One scenario you may have separate BW system (separate server) and the other scenario is using the internal BW in the APO server itself i.e using the internal BW which is available in APO server.
In either case, the data from R/3 is loaded from R3 to APO by Data sources. The data from R3 is extracted by data sources using extraction structures and uploaded into the BW info cubes. The data data source will have a extraction structure, the fields from the R3 data will be mapped to the fields of data source by extraction structure. The data is extracted from source system i.e. from R3 and then updated into the info cubes by update or target structure (i.e mapping of fields to the key figures and characteristics of info cubes) and update rules ( for mapping source field and target field if any calculation is required it can be made by using some routines).
From the info cubes, it is loaded into APO live-cache (planning area). Hoe this clarifies your query.
