Apogee miniDAC and Sound output

There is no sound output from the Apogee miniDAc after the MacPro (2013) awakens from sleep. Sound output does occur if the internal Mac Pro speakers are selected. A restart will allow the Apogee miniDAC to function normally. In searching the threads regarding similar topics, it appeared that this occured with fusion drives. However others have reported  similar problems with SSD.
Is this a Mavericks issue? My Apogee miniDAC is connected to the computer via USB.
I would like to maintain the miniDAC since it does provide the interface to my preamp and speakers.
Thank you.

This seems to be a bug with digital audio output via USB. I am not sure if there is a fix or whether you're gonna have to wait for a Software Update to be released by Apple.
BTW: I've always wondered whether this kind of solution gives you better audio out that using the analogue out (i.e. headphone port on the Mac Pro).
Obviously Toslink would be another option but I understand that you are not willing to spend money on hardware to do the same thing differently...
EDIT: Does that thing not have a Toslink input? May be worth a try if you have a 'cable' lying around for that (you'd need a 3.5mm optical adapter for that port though).

  • HP ENVY 17 microphone and sound output problems

Hey i have a HP ENVY 17, and i have been having some problems with the microphone, sound outputs and the sound in general. The microphone output haven't been working ever since i got the notebook in November. at first i thought it was problems with the settings, either on the computer or on Skype, which i used for communication. I tried with other Voice Chat programs such as Mumble, Ventrilo and TeamSpeak - neither worked. I got a friend over who knows a little bit about computers, and the only thing he could think of was that the microphone output was non working. I am using Steelseries 7H headset. Now i have to use the integrated microphone which often gives background or typing noise.
Lately i am only hearing sound on the right ear, i have checked my headphones with an iPod, so i know there is nothing wrong with them.
The third problem occurs when i turn the volume over 20% on the computer. It starts to make a background noise, almost like a waterfall, both with headset and without.
Another little problem i have is nothing to do with sound, but since I'm posting this already, i thought i could atleast ask. When i play games the top left side of the computer, right over the fan can get hot while the fan is working on hardmode. If i play really graphic-focused games, like Crysis 2, it gets super hot(i burn my hand if i hold it over the fan). Is this just because it's a laptop and the games demands too much? Or is it dust in the fan or something? And what can i do about it? That last question counts for all the problems
    Thank you on beforehand
    - Kirrod

I still need help, if there are anyone here who thinks they have any kind of solution to my problem. Like; how do i get it repaired? Send it to HP? How long will it take?
Im sorry if my english is not so good, it's my second language. It might be called microphone input, and not output. The place you put in the microphone cable.
    Please help!

  • MagicJack and Sound Output Problems

I have an interesting issue occurring on my Mac Mini. I am running 10.6.2 with all available updates and have a magicjack connected. I am also using a toslink adapter to my bose system for digital audio out.
    Here's my problem:
When I go to System Preferences and select Audio there are 2 choices for output; Digital Output and USB Internet Phone by Tigerjet (magicjack). I, of course, have it set to Digital Output and things work great until Time Machine connects to my external HDD I have connected to my AEBS. When it makes the disk available and starts to backup, my selection of Digital Output changes to USB Tigerjet and my audio stops working. No matter what I do I can't change it back without unmounting the magicjack and quitting all apps that are using sound. I have to physically unplug the magicjack first, then I can go back and change it to Digital Output and my sounds works but the next time I plug the magicjack back in and time machine wants to run it all happens over again.
Anyone have any ideas? I use the magicjack as my home phone so I can't just leave it unplugged.
    Thanks

Tried that, thought it worked, but when I played a movie it changed back to USB TigerJet. Thanks for the permissions tip though. I apparently had 100's of files with wrong permissions.

  • Using Apple Digital AV Adapter and sound output for iPad 1

    Hi all!
I'm trying to hook up my iPad 1 and iPhone 4 to a projector through HDMI that has very weak speakers. My solution is to hook up the video through HDMI and use my headphone jack or use my device speakers for sound. At first I thought it'd be okay because people on this forum say the headphone jack will still work, but no one that posted these question have an iPad 1, they all had the 2nd gen. Does anyone know if it also works with iPad1 and iPhone 4? i know mirroring won't work on my devices, i'm just looking to use AirVideo and Plex to run my videos.
    Thanks in advance!

What apps are you try to dsicplay via TV out? On the iPod TV out only dispays with apps that support TV out. The Video app is one of them.

  • How to interrupt sound output?

    Hello,
I need help with one problem. I have VI that plays waveform. And I need to interrupt it in any moment during playing, and to perform new playing with new waveform. When I use Sound Output  Stop and Sound Output Clear in different combinations, Sound Output Write is stopped and program drops down.
    Can somebody help?

    Hi,
I mean that program paused due to Sound Write pause. And the only way to continue dataflow is Play Sound function. But I need to interrupt playing and perform new one with new settings. I've attached two screenshots to clear situation.

  • Interrupt sound output

I am writing a one minute sound file to the sound card using the Labview 2011 Sound Output Write vi.  The sound starts to play and there doesn't appear to be any way to stop it until the entire file has played.  Not even the Abort Execution button will stop it.  I have looked at the KB article called Stopping a Sound File during Playback, but it was written a long time ago before Sound Output Write became available.
I have tried using an event structure with Sound Output Stop and Sound Output Clear but it doesn't work.  In fact the event never fires.  It is as if Sound File writes lock out everything until the complete. Example is attached.

    Gerd,
Thanks for taking an interest in my problem.  But you miss the point entirely.
Here is what labview help says about Sound Output Stop:
"Stops the device from playing sound from the buffer. Use the Sound Output Clear VI to clear the data in the buffer."
Well.  It doesn't.  In fact it doesn't do anything.  It is totally useless.  I posted my query in the hope that I was missing something and that someone could show me what it was.
I think you will agree that Sound Output Clear.vi doesn't work.  I think that is a bug, don't you?
You state that Sound Output Write VI uses an uninterruptible system DLL call.  Bug number 2?
You suggest breaking up the sound output file into a series of very short writes so that I can stop where I want.  I agree that that will work.  But shouldn't Sound Output Write do that for me if Labview is to provide an interruptible sound output capability?
Now as far as violating Labview data flow niceties, yes, I was in a hurry and I was just trying to create something which would demonstrate the problem.  If you want, move the Sound Output Write into the loop and you will see the exact same result.
I have an old PC with Labview 7.1.  I'm going to fire it up and see if the old sound VI's have the same problem.
    Regards,
    David

Hi Alxx911, and John Hammer1. After reading John's reply - " You can plug something into it's headphone jack. though" . I thought i'd try out of curiosity. I plugged in some headphones. I didn't expect anything to happen  and nothing happened. The audio jack is for the Dell soundbar which is optional.
Here's a direct copy and paste from the users manual: Section About Your Monitor.
Attaching the Soundbar AX510 / AX510PA (Optional) CAUTION: Do not use with any device other than the Dell Soundbar. NOTE: The Soundbar power connector (+12 V DC output) is for the optional Dell Soundbar AX510/AX510PAonly. To attach the Soundbar: 1. Working from the back of the monitor, attach the Soundbar by aligning the two slots with the two tabs along the bottom of the monitor. 2. Slide the Soundbar to the left until it snaps into place. 3.  Connectthe Soundbar with the DC power connector. 4. Insert the mini stereo plug from the back of the Soundbar into the computerís audio output jack. For HDMI/DP, you can insert the mini stereo plug into the monitorís audio output port.  If there is no sound, check your PC if the Audio output is configured to HDMI/DP output.
This monitor has no speakers. (Like John Hammer1 mentioned). The no speakers feature was one of the reasons I chose this monitor.
    Good Luck !

  • 2 Apple TV's and no sound output when using AirPlay/mirroring?

    Hi,
Bought my first apple tv and when air mirroring was able to go to my system preferences and choose sound output for it and it worked beautifully when I wanted to play a movie on my computer and send it to the TV.  Bought a second apple tv for the bedroom, both are connected over wifi.  Using Mountain Lion on my iMac.  Now it won't play any sound on either and will not let me choose which apple tv in system preferences - sound.  Any help would be appreciated
    Sue
I have tried turning Apple TV on first, then choosing sound output before turning on air mirroring.  Problem is it won't let me choose, stays on internal speakers.
This fix won't work for me.

Might I recommend the following sample code instead?

When I go to Settings and Sound the only Output option for me to select is Headphones. I'm pretty sure there should be other options. Problem? Ideas?

Other options pop-up when you connect devices to the Audio-Out port, like external speakers.

  • Sound output: Repeat Track and Pause

    Hi,
I have to read from a .wav file and hear it from the sound card until I press a button. When the file ends, the program has to start again from the beginning of the file (as a "Repeat Track" function).
I would like to have both a Pause button (that makes me start from the last point of the file)  and a Stop button (that starts again from the beginning of the file).
The Play Wave block allows to listen again and again the .wav file but I haven't been able to stop it in any way. Instead, using the Sound Output Write block I can stop the sound but I don't know how to listen the file in the "Repeat" mode.
    Can someone help me please?
    Thanks

    Hi Biomed,
you can use the control called Windows Media Player, so that you can completely control the media you want to play.
Be careful because you have to enable the wave reading oin the media player: https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090324123934AAyqWkM
One you've done so, you can use a property node to choose the media file you want to open and control the reproduction of it like the media player as a standalone app.
    Hope it helps.

  • USB (Mega stick), sound output and PS2 problems

    ==USB problem==
The MSI MEGA STICK do not work with the MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR.
When you plug it, its recognized, you can write on the MEGA STICK, delete files but cannot READ from MEGA STICK. It freezes while display "reading". I have tried on lots of PCs. Only my MSI motherboard do not work properly. The same problem with my 2 MEGA STICK. And i had tried Windows XP and Linux. Same problem. Others USB devices works fine. Even card readers...
    ==PS2==
My optical wireless mouse do not works properly. When i turns on the computer, it works ok. If i restart, do not work. Restart again, works. And go on... Only this mouse. Others MB works fine.
    ==Sound Output==
And also with my sound output. The eletrical one (coaxial).
It do not work with my 5.1 home system. It works fine with my old SB Live. It gets worse when i use my tv output from my Radeon 9100. It only works SOMETIMES when the tv output is not plugged in.
Thanks to all that could help me.

    Mega stick.
have you updated the firmware ?
No. It Freezes before being able to update. Also the update do not tell about solving this problem
    "Firmware version: 2.05
    Update items
    1. Improve delete MP3 and voice files function.
    2. Fix device will restart while forward/backward Voice file."
you do know that windows xp does not come with usb2 drivers.
sp1 does and you have to install them yourself.
go to device manager and delete all usb entries and reboot and windows will install the usb2 drivers next time you boot.
if you get a slipstreamed version of xp you dont need to do this as it installed usb2 drivers rightaway.
slipstream means a xp disc with sp1 on it.
My XP cd is already SP1. Also tried on BIOS to use only USB 1.1V
    PS2.
tried to use the other ps2 contact ?

  • No Sound Output options - and no sound - when in Native OS 9

    Hi,
on my MDD G4 (the last one, single 1.25GHz G4), I have no sound output option in the Sound Control Panel, when started in native OS9. As a result I cannot increase the volume above 'mute' and hence have no sound at all. Extensions-off makes no difference.
In Mac OS X, all variants I've tried, I have perfectly normal sound. In Classic mode too, sound works (but I can't use the Sound CDEV obviously).
Is there a special driver (Sound Manager vXXX?) required for this machine or what? The Sound Manager which it does have, which is shown during startup, is not crossed out.
    Thanks for all suggestions!
    Cheers, A.

Yes, that was my suspicion actually, because I am quite sure that I am NOT using the correct OS. I bought the MDD second hand, and it didn't come with OS9 disks. I tried installing a retail OS 9.2 system, the installer told me No, not on this Mac. Even weirder, when I copied someone else's OS9 disk, which was allegedly from a MDD also, I was also told by the installer No, I don't work with this hardware. I guess that the disk I got was from an earlier MDD (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP63), not the 1.25GHz later one (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP106), though I don't know what actual hardware differences there are.
I eventually just copied the system folder from my Yikes 400 G4, updated it in Classic mode to 9.2.2, then restarted in native OS9 and wow, it worked. Except for the graphics card, drivers for which were a nightmare to track down. ATI has somehow removed all OS9 drivers from the entire internet (yeah, who'd have thought that that was possible!). Again, eventually I found someone who had hoarded the ATI Retail Driver Installer from October 2002 and he kindly let me copy it and then yay I had graphics acceleration. (Even the Finder was awful to use without it).
Chances of finding a machine-specific installer disk for THIS particular mac are very small I suspect.
    Cheers, A.

  • SoundBlaster Audigy Value: Delay and echoing of sound output from head

I'm having problems with the sound output of my voice when chatting using a headset.. I can hear echoes and there are delays occasionally. I first thought the problem was with the headset, and so I changed it. However, the problem persists!
When I plugged my headset in my laptop instead of the desktop with the Audigy Value installed, I didn't encounter any problems at all with the sound. So I thought the problem is with the Audigy Value souncard.
What could be causing these problems?

You need set the ASIO latency through CT ASIO panel and not through Audition settings. ASIO Panel has only settings as milliseconds so if you select 10 or lower value your delay problems should be fixed.

  • Mac Mini sound output and superdrive stop working randomly

Every once in a while the sound stops working and when I check the sound preferences it says no output devices are connected, even when I've got stuff plugged in. Doesn't recognize the built in speaker either. This has been happening for a while, but the most recent time I had tried to read a DVD and it wouldn't show up, and wouldn't come out of the drive when I hit the eject key. System Profiler wasn't recognizing the drive either. I fixed all this by shutting down and disconnecting all the cords from the back, as has worked for the sound problems before, but this doesn't seem to fix it permanantly. The sound problems seem to have started when I installed a security update a week or 2 ago, not sure about the superdrive problems. Anybody got any ideas?

I am having this same problem. It just started this morning (August 19th). No sound was coming out and the headphone jack in the back was lit up red. When I plugged the headphones in, sound came out of there. I unplugged them and sound came out of the computer as usual...but only for a minute or so, then the same problem. Nothing works in changing preferences either. Has anyone had any luck with this problem?

  • PB G4: Sound output inconsistent and backup battery dead. AppleCare covers?

I have a PowerBook G4 that a got a few months ago brand new -- I am the original owner. It came with AppleCare as part of a package.
From the very beginning, the sound output plug hasn't worked right consistently. If I plug in headphones or speakers, usually only one channel will play; if I jiggle the plug delicately, often (but not always) I can get both channels to play right. But If I even touch the cord, I lose one of the channels again. But the built-in speakers work fine, both channels. The problem is with the output to the headphones.
I tried peering into the sound outlet hole with a mini-flashlight and a magnifying glass, but it looked perfectly fine in there. I tried a variety of headphones and speakers, but the problem is the same with all of them.
I didn't mind too much at first, because I wasn't using the PB for sound, but recently I have been editing videos on it, and the sound flaw is becoming a major problem.
Unrelated to that: the backup battery (that maintains memory when the main battery runs out, if you're not plugged into to AC) is completely shot: no charge whatsoever. I've have other PBs in the past but I've never seen a backup battery run out of juice so quickly -- usually it takes years. I've only had this computer a few months. If I'm not plugged into AC, and I ignore the "You are getting low on power" warning, and then the main battery runs out, and the PB is supposed to go to sleep powered by the backup battery. But instead it just goes off. When I re-plug it back in, I have to restart. I rarely ever do this, but the last two times it has happened -- no sleep, just off.
My question is this: are either or both of these problems covered by my AppleCare plan? The sound problem was this way from the beginning. I've never used AppleCare -- how does it work? Do I have to mail my computer somewhere for it to be fixed? Or can I take to a Apple certified dealer (I live not far from an Apple Store). I'm really hesitant about giving up my computer for a long time just for these non-critical repairs.
    Thanks.
