Apostrophe cause a carriage return when sig is selected

I've got no clue on this one folks, only seems to happen in mail when a sig file is selected as a default, regardless of whether a new signature is created from scratch or a pervious one is chosen.  If none is select it appears to not happen or the adding of an apostrophe does not invoke a carriage return?
All clues and observations welcome!

Yes as it turns out someone had turned on smart quotes in the keyboard system preferences.

  • TCS2 Inline graphics hidden by conditional text cause unwanted carriage returns

    I have some FrameMaker documents where there are some small icons in the text.  Their anchored frames are set to be "at insertion point" in FrameMaker. They work fine normally, but when the icons are hidden by conditional text, they cause unwanted carriage returns in the RoboHelp output. The text is split into different paragraphs in the middle of the sentence.
    For example, this is the FrameMaker input:
    And this is the RoboHelp (WebHelp) output:
    I notice that if I manually edit a topic in the RoboHelp editor, I can manually apply a conditional tag to an inline graphic without causing a line break.
    So, I'm wondering if there's a way to avoid this when using linked FrameMaker documents.
    Thanks,
       Philip.

    Your logs are generated automatically by your system as it runs - there is nothing further that you need to do. They are ordinary text files, so you can display them on a terminal using any of the usual tools - cat, less, grep, etc.

    I am losing my carriage returns when sending emails using the Internet email vi's.
    All carriage returns are stripped out and I get one long word wrapped paragraph.
    I want to avoid html.
    Ideally, using the vi's for rich text would be perfect, but a simple text message with carriage returns and line feeds in any font ok.
    uses SMTP Email MIME Text Content-Type.vi
    i have tried text/plain, text/html, and mixed yada something

    You need to use Line feed constant and then use concatenate function.See the screen shot.

  • Forcing carriage returns when writing into a text field in director 7

    I am trying to put together a data table in a text field in
    director 7. I have a 4 variables that contain random numbers. I
    would like my data table to appear in the following format:
    P1 xxx atm
    V1 xxx mL
    P2 xxx atm
    V2 xxx mL
    I was trying to do it into a single text field by
    concatenating the text string for the variable name, the variable,
    and also the variables containing the units. Unfortunately, the
    different units are all different lengths, so I keep getting word
    wrap issues. Is there anything I can do to just tell it to start a
    new line?
    My workaround was to put each line into a different field,
    but .....
    Any help would be appreciated.

    This is actually fairly simple when working with numbers,
    because numbers
    (in most fonts) are fixed-width. X number of digits will take
    up Y amount
    of space, regardless of what those digits are. Thus, if you
    figure out the
    maximum number of digits that will fit into your column, you
    can count the
    digits of your random number to see if it'll fit, and then
    add RETURNs in it
    if it won't. Another thing you can do if it fits your style
    is pad the
    numbers with leading 0's. _'s are also usually the same width
    as numbers.
    At any rate, it's a little hard to help if we don't have a
    good idea of what
    kind of data you're trying to display - what's the range of
    numbers, for
    example? If you know about how many digits you'll have in
    your longest
    numbers, you should be able to tailor your text member to be
    able to fit
    that many digits without wrapping, just by typing in 12345678
    or however
    many digits you need and stretching things to fit that. It
    gets a good deal
    trickier with letters, unfortunately - "woman" takes up more
    space than
    "illicit" despite containing 2 fewer letters. There's ways of
    dealing with
    that, but they're not easy...

  • Importing XML Text files with Indesign friendly 'Carriage Returns'

    Hi,
    I have a question wrt importing XML into Indesign.  I have my text stored in Excel (Fig A) and intend to export as an XML file where each line will represent each page.  However, my first attempt failed to treat the 'carriage returns' as I'd envisaged:
    The 'carriage returns' used within an Excel cell (ALT-ENTER) are maintained when transforming to a CSV file (Fig B).  However, when converting to an XML file, the conversion only takes place on a line by line basis and hence the XML file becomes incomplete (Fig C).
    So, it appears I need to make sure that the CSV file contains one line per entry, while also maintaining the actual carriage returns in my source spreadsheet and for Indesign to recognise them.  In order to do this, I'll need to substitute the 'carriage returns' in my excel column to be represented by a new set of characters.  My question is how can I let Indesign know to recognise this set of characters to be converted to a carriage return, when importing text.
    For example, if this set of characters was '%%%%%%', then my new csv file would look like Figure D and the XML would be produced correctly, like Figure E.  Then importing this XML file to InDesign, the carriage returns would automatically be reinstated, hopefully.
    I hope someone can help me as I am only starting out in Indesign and feel Im running before I can walk by venturing into the XML/Indesign arena too soon.
    Best Regards
    Luke

    Hi,
    Thanks for all the responses.
    With regard to XML, it could well be an issue has crept in because I am using another utility to convert my csv's to xml and maybe there are better options out there. I will take a look for other utilities and try that (Its not possible from Excel easily, even though there is an option to save as an XML file).
    Secondly, because the XML was readable by internet explorer, I assumed it had a satisfactory standard XML format which would be accepted by any program, including InDesign.  This proved true, since the XML file i generated was actually recognised by my Indesign document and populated the tags correctly, albeit without any carriage returns.
    When I save my excel sheet as a csv, it does actually hold the carriage returns causing multiple lines per entry, hence why I need to substitute the actual carriage returns in my excel sheet to a alternative character set so that the entry remains on one line.
    Re: Double quotes on text fields.  Im sorry, I didnt realise I had commas in my sample csv example.
    I should have corrected it, but I intend on using semi-colons as my csv delimiter and don't intend on having semi-colons in my excel sheet itself, so I possibly won't need any double-quotes.
    So, it looks like this is what I need to do ;
    i)   Add a column in Excel which substitutes all the carriage returns with a line break identifier (^n).
    ii)  Convert Excel file to a semi-colon csv holding this new column,
    iii) Convert csv file to XML using a good CSV->XML utility,
    iv)  Add the respective XML tags to my INDD document,
    v)   Add a GREP rule which does a find/replace on all instances of ^n and replace with a line break,
    vi)  Import the XML file,
    vii) Apply the find/replace GREP rule on the whole document. Carriage returns on my text fields should be consistent with my original excel sheet.
    Thanks for all your help fellas.  Will report on how I get on once Im done.

  • Carriage returns in OAException message

    Hi,
    I am creating an OAException message based on a String;
    String exceptionMessage = "";
                if (pageContext.getParameter("OrgId").isEmpty()) {
                    exceptionMessage = "Please select a valid Organisation";
                if (pageContext.getParameter("BankAccountNum").isEmpty()) {
                    exceptionMessage =
                            exceptionMessage + "\nPlease select a valid Bank Account";
    throw new OAException(exceptionMessage, OAException.ERROR);
    Is it possible to have carriage returns in an exception message? I have added /n within the String, however it is not showing a carriage return when running it?
    Kind Regards
    Carl

    If you are using message dictionary you can put carriage returns easily.(Whenever you are raising any error message, as per standards you should use message dictionary. You can change the message text without touching the java code).
    Here are the steps
    1) Create a message named XXX_YOUR_MESSAGE using Application Developer responsibility with your custom message. Make sure you set the application(as per below example I am using Human Resources) of the message properly as it needs to be referred in your java code
    2) Just write below code where ever you want.
                OAException myOAException = new OAException("PER", "XXX_YOUR_MESSAGE", null, OAException.ERROR, null); //You can even use OAException.ERROR or OAException.WARNING etc. Just explore the class OAException for further options.
                throw myOAException;
    So as per the message you set, it will display carriage returns. You can even use HTML tags I guess but I never tried.
    If you want to set tokens in your message you can use below code
           MessageToken[] arrayOfMessageToken = new MessageToken[] { new MessageToken("MY_TOKEN", "My Token Text") };
           OAException myOAException = new OAException("PER", "XXX_YOUR_MESSAGE", arrayOfMessageToken, OAException.ERROR, null);
           throw myOAException;

  • Regular Expression.  Select Statement.  Carriage Return

    Oracle 9i
    Using SQLPLUS
    I've read about regular expression and need some translation/explanation.
    I have a large table containing a varchar2 (free text) column. Users may have inserted carriage returns when they entered the data. I need to locate rows that contain carriage returns, select and display them. Later I'll need to update those rows to replace the carriage returns with a space.
    Can you assist with syntax. I believe use of a regular expression is required.
    Thanks

    for single characters like <CR> TRANSLATE() Doh. Never post at the end of a long day.
    As the other posters have pointed out, one-for-one single character substitution is normally done with REPLACE(), although TRANSLATE() also works. The more normal role for TRANSLATE() is situations where you want to substitute multiple characters, e.g.
    SQL> update <your table> set <your column> = replace (<your column> , chr(13)||chr(10), ' ');This substitutes a space for a carriage return and line feed combination.

  • SQLLDR is inserting carriage returns.

    Hello. I tried searching but didn't find anything specific to my problem. I have a lot of Access tables to load into Oracle. All of the Access tables get appended into the same Oracle table. I'm exporting the Access tables to a excel spreadsheet then saving as a csv file. I run SQLLDR and it's giving me an error on a column saying invalid number. I switch the number field over to a Varchar2 and it loads. When I view the data in enterprise manager it has a square next to the last number. I did a simple replace on the character using replace(flow_rate,chr(13),'') and inserting that data into a number field again.
    I'd like to be able to skip this step in the future. Is there a way to skip the carriage returns when loading.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply. Yes I am. I have a bunch of Access files on a NT server. I open them and export the table to a xls file on my desktop. I open the file then save it as a CSV on the desktop. I then use WinSCP3 to move the file from the desktop to the UNIX box which is where the Oracle database is located on.
    It only puts the carriage return in the last column data is in. I have workaround using the replace function but I'd like to just fix the problem.

  • DTAUS0 payment format - no carriage returns

    Hi
    I am configuring file formats for data exchange with the bank. I notice that the standard format for Germany uses the format DTAUS0.
    However when I create the file there are no 'carriage returns'. the file is just one long string.
    How do you build in carriage returns, when there is no payment medium workbench?
    thanks
    Liz

    The official format DTAUS0 generated by RFFOD__U does not contain any
    carriage return characters, so no CR/LF characters are inserted into
    file. This would be the reason why you get very long lines with no
    end.
    If you need to have <CR/LF> in your DME file, please, you have to
    modify in the Include RFFORI04.

  • Default Carriage return in the last column when data is downloaded to Excel

    Problem:
    When you download data into Excel and if the last column of your excel is a numeric field, XMLP will add a carriage return (special character) to your numeric field. This feild will be considered as character field by excel.
    Work Around:
    When you build the template, create an empty column as your last column and leave E (or end-for-each) in that empty column.
    Note:
    If the last column is a character column then you do not have to do this.

    I originally had that END:VCARD without any carriage return.
    But I still get an extra carriage return at the end when the JSP renders to VCF
    I'm using Tomcat running on Linux.
    I found this, article which implies (but does not explicitly say) JSP in general adds a newline to the last line:
    http://www.caucho.com/resin-3.0/jsp/faq.xtp (But its not tomcat either, so maybe this info is irrelevant).

  • XSLT - New Line/Carriage Return not displaying when deployed

    Hello everyone,
    I have an XSL Style Sheet that is supposed to transform an XML into plain text using Oracle SOA 11g BPEL transformation. The plain text transformation is working fine, but whenever I try to add a new line or carriage return, the text output doesn't reflect that. I've tried several ways of adding the line break but none of them have worked. This is the XSLT I'm using for testing purposes:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:a="urn:oracle:b2b:X12/V4010/850" version="1.0">
    <xsl:output method="text" omit-xml-declaration="yes" indent="no"/>
    <xsl:template match="/a:Transaction-850">
    <!-- New line -->
    <xsl:variable name='newline'><xsl:text>
    </xsl:text></xsl:variable>
    <xsl:value-of select="a:Internal-Properties/a:Data-Structure/a:Property[@Name='InterchangeUsageIndicator']" />
    <xsl:text>&#xd;</xsl:text>
    <xsl:value-of select="$newline" />
    <xsl:text>&#xA;</xsl:text>
    <xsl:text>&#13;</xsl:text>
    <xsl:text>&#10;</xsl:text>
    <xsl:text>2000ITITM</xsl:text>
    </xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>
    When I try it out in an online XSLT test tool, it gives the output as expected:
    P
    2000ITITM
    When I deploy the composite, I noticed that the XSLT in the MDS repository ignores the line breaks, *#xAs, etc. and just closes the <xsl:text/> tags:
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>
    <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:a="urn:oracle:b2b:X12/V4010/850" version="1.0">
    <xsl:output method="text" omit-xml-declaration="yes" indent="no"/>
    <xsl:template match="/a:Transaction-850">
    <xsl:variable name="newline">
    <xsl:text/>
    </xsl:variable>
    <xsl:value-of select="a:Internal-Properties/a:Data-Structure/a:Property[@Name='InterchangeUsageIndicator']"/>
    <xsl:text/>
    <xsl:value-of select="$newline"/>
    <xsl:text/>
    <xsl:text/>
    <xsl:text>2000ITITM</xsl:text>
    </xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>
    And so, because of that, it just gives me the following output:
    P2000ITITM
    I have no idea why it's ignoring the new line characters, so any guidance would be appreciated.
    Thank you all for your help and time!
    Edit: I tried concatenating as follows:
    <xsl:value-of select="concat('36','&#xA;')"/>
    <xsl:value-of select="concat('24','&#xD;')"/>
    ...which shows up as is when I look at it in the MDS repository, however the text output still shows no line breaks...
    Message was edited by: dany36

    Ah I'm such a newbie. I was able to get it displayed by doing the following:
    <xsl:variable name="newline" select="'&#xD;&#xA;'" />
    This would show up correctly in the MDS repository, too.

  • What causes  carriage returns to become page turns in Epu  docs from Pages?

    I converted a long document from pages to Epub. Towards the end a section adds a new page at each carriage return. I tried everything. still can't fix it.

    I think that both your pages have a missing </div> at the end somewhere.
    Opps... that happened when I was stripping down the page to create a working example of my issue. I've fixed the missing div and re-uploaded both pages. The problem is still there.
    Change display: inline; to float: left; and add margin: 0 0 4px 4px; (as shown below)
    I had already tried using float, but something else in the code was forcing the columns to 2 instead of 3.
    Have you used "Apply Source Formatting" ?
    I use that religiously. I'm quite anal about visually clean code.
    Well, I just fixed the problem while replying... funny... I removed the margins from the actual img element (.imageThumb img) and placed it on the div which surrounds the img (.imageThumb). I also reapplied the float. Thanks all for the help - it helped me rethink. But I could have sworn I had once placed the margins on .imageThumb before and it didn't work.
    .imageThumb {
        width: 100px;
        height: 75px;
        display: inline;
        float: left;

        cursor: pointer;
    .imageThumb img {

  • Carriage returns causes enclosed VBScript to run and fail to complete

    I am finding a weird problem.
    I have my autosequence file working perfectly without any errors but the same VBscript file when enclosed runs and fails to complete I am unable to figure what is wrong.
    I am using vbCRLF to read/write from INI files into the script files. Other than this I dont use any cariage returns. When Iopen my Script files in other editors like Notepad etc, I am able to find a small square kind of a character. Is there some unseen Carriage Returns (CRs) or Line Feeds (LFs) or some combination due to which I am facing this.
    (I am using DIAdem 9)
    Can anyone please help me out with this immediately.
    Thanks in advance,
    Wating for your quick response.

    Hello, I'm searching through the Diadem Forum and I didn't find something that I could use.
    I have to exchange text information between to programs (DIAdem and CatmanProfessional).
    My initial idea is to create INI file to acomplish this. Catman has a function to read or write quite easily describing the SECTIONS and KEYS of this INI file.
    However I can't see something on Diadem Script. It onlys read or write Text files... And then I must extract the key values cutting and finding one by one.
    I saw that Labview has an open VI to treat this, is there nothing similar for DIAdem?

    Try with this.
