App and software I don't knowif I want

I downloaded a desktop "organizer" called virtue. I dont know what it does, nothing seems different, so I was going to put in the trash but it said I would lose what is on my desktop if I do.

to uninstall. This information is usually in the
documentation that comes with the application. In
this rare instance there is no documentation
whatsoever. You should visit the
developer's website to try to find out what to
do.
The application is for letting you create different
virtual desktops for your Mac. This means you can
have different applications and files open on
seperate desktops which you can then switch between.
I tried a similar application once, and it was very
good, but I quickly realized that I had no need for
it.

You are right, I shouldn't just jump into something. It doesn't have any documentation yet, I don't need the app, but it isn't bothersome to just have sitting on my desktop. Until there is a "how to uninstall it" I will leave it. I can't aford to buy a MacZapper, thanks

Installer.app and software update don't work anymore

hi there,
i just repaired my hd using diskwarrior, which was succesful. now i tried to get some updates installed, but just at the start of the process for every .pkg file i tried, installer says there was a problem and that i have to try again. of course, trying again doesn't help.
that problem, which also includes software update in the very same way, already existed before i fixed my drive with diskwarrior. it was the initial reason i ran a disk repair.
any ideas, especially any that don't involve reinstalling os x?
before, the system had been running fine for several years.

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
In Photos:
File ▹ Show Recently Deleted ▹ Delete All
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation—not the mythical 10%, 15%, or any other percentage. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside a photo or iTunes library will corrupt the library. Changes to such a library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
Install the app in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
For ODS:

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password.
The application window will open behind other open windows. When you scan a volume, the window will eventually show all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

Mail app. and Webmail .Mac don't sync Address Book properly

How does one go about making these 3 things Sync with each other correctly?
What I mean is this:
I have a lot of contacts with emails and such in my Address Book. I can access those with the Mail app. and I can send emails and keep on adding more info.
I use my .Mac account to supposedly sync and backup everything - so that when I happen to be away from my computer or if I want to surf it by webmail in to my account, I can -
however, when I access the address book inside my account in webmail, it's all jumbled up. A lot of the contacts have 2 copies of each, and then all the email addresses that I have been saving when I get new emails from new people within webmail it saves as a completely new contact.
This is getting tedious. Is there any way to make all these sync a little more coherently?

I have re-purchased an app and I still don't have it.

I had purchased a geocache app several years ago and recently noticed it was missing from my touch. After doing a bit of research, I realized I had to update my touch, which I hadn't been doing, assuming this would re-populate the app once i was up to date. I downloaded several updates, getting to 4.2.1 Once this was done, the app didn't "reappear." I figured I'd have to purchase again and did that. I purchased it from my laptop and it shows up in the library there, but when I sync it doesn't appear on my touch. Any suggestions?

Safari can't load pages and software update don't work!

Hi! Today I bought a time capsule to use it for time machine and for internet. After the installation and after the airport utility gives me the green light for all I try to enter a webpage. Safari doesn't worked at all. I try to use firefox and everything was ok. I try to connect with the ethernet port and the same here. The imail is fine and only with firefox can open pages but I have the same issue with the software update, it says that connection timed out! I don.t understand what happened I'll try some setting later but if someone have any idea pls help me. Thnx! It's the very first time I have an issue with my mac and I feel terible!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

I Want to transfer items, including * especially* an in-progress game to a new iPAd air from an existing ipad2 without losing progress. I have updated to the cloud. Do I have to restore the old ipad2 first, before I begin with the "hello" screen on the new iPad Air? I have just updated to OS X Mavericks, and it's wiped absolutely EVERYTHING including my apps and software, is there anyway I can retrieve this? *DESPERATE FOR HELP*

If all your files are missing
You may have logged in as a different user, such as Guest. Open the Users & Groups pane in System Preferences. Your name should be at the top of the user list, under Current User. See also this support article.
If files are missing from one folder
Change the Finder view mode; for example, from icon view to list view, or vice versa.
If files are present, but seem outdated
You may have started up from a different volume (disk.) Open the Startup Disk preference pane and check the selection.

My camera app and snapchat camera don't work. They won't flip cameras and camera app won't even come up

I have just got an ipod touch for christmas have created an apple account and linked it to my bank card so i could buy the odd app i have since bought a 69p app and it has done an update my bank account balance has changed by £1.58 can anyone advise

i would just like to know why when i bought a 69p app that it seems apple have taken 1.58 out of my bank account, the ipod has updated since i have had it but i was led to believe all the other free apps i downloaded were free, also that wifi was free so i cant see where the charge has come from, any advise would be very welcome, im a noob to apple merchandise.

Have purchased apps and add on's on ipod touch want to move to IPAD

I just purchased a brand new ipad. I have purchased apps from my ipod along with add ons I purchased. I have tried Icloud but it doesn't sync from the ipod to the ipad when signing in with the same game center ID. I synced the ipad via Itunes to the Ipod but the add on's don't show on the Ipad only the Ipod, what am I doing wrong? This is frustrating.

When you really think about it the whole thing makes sense. Your playing the game on your device not in the cloud. For instance, the reason you can use documents in the cloud to start a document on one device and finish it on another is because it is being backed up on the device. The game you are playing is on the device. For that to work the manufacture of the app would have make a way for you to upload your app data inot from you game into their server. You probably who have to have an internet connection to upload your game data to a sever. That probably would mean signing in with an account to continue your game on another device.

When I create a new chapter sometimes I get the chapter number with bullets on either side and sometimes I don't. I want to be constant. How do I consistently create bullets on both sides of the Chapter Number?

But I also want to be able to lock it (using mutex or synchronization) so if someone else on the same network opens up XMLReader, then they cannot edit it at the same time. Also, when they open their app and then Person A edits it, I want it to notify Person B's app.
Does anyone know how to do this? Can it be done with the two instances and no server?

my solution is
make a interface which has the method which edit the xmlreader to the user whom u want to give the access of
editing make all the other methods which the other users can use in a different interface and give that instances to them
hope u will understand the hints if u want more explanation i will give
in this case make all the other users to register with the Xml reader to get the notifications if the Xml reader is changed by the user who can access
so it will be quite easy for u now to notify the users when the file is edited
it can be done both in single JVM and also in different JVM(client server)
