  • [SOLVED] Archlinux does not boot any more after update

    Hi all,
yesterday I decided to update my Archlinux system again after postponing the updates for some weeks.
In general I update anything except kernel stuff, but this did lead to some dependency problems recently,
so I decided to make a full upgrade now via pacman.
After restarting the system, the kernel refused to boot. It told me, that it couldn't find my root partition /dev/sdc1 and left
me in an almost useless recovery shell. The error was:
ERROR: Unable to determine major/minor number of root device /dev/sdc1
Has anyone an idea, what might have happened? I had to install Ubuntu into a free partition to post this
topic. The disks and partitions are okay, I managed to "boot" using the old kernel, but of course the system
remained useless in that case due to wrong kernel module versions.
Thanks in advance for any hint, how to proceed.
    Cheers, Zmann

    Hi all,
thanks for the quick replies and sorry for the delay (children prioritized :-)
Yes, I'm using an older SATA controller (more or less 6 years), so the problem might be related to what you posted.
I was not able to boot the old fallback kernel, same error message. The fallback kernel simply uses a different initrd
file, perhaps I should think about a more sophisticated approach.
Nevertheless I already checked the file /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and it did not contain a hook called autodetect. So maybe
the mkinitcpio won't help anyway? Should I prefer using the suggested LTS kernel instead? I assume, this is done by booting
using an archlinux CD, then chroot and using pacman? Maybe it's sufficient to chroot from the currently running ubuntu instead?
Or will the booted kernel have any influence to mkinitcpio or the like?
    Cheers, Zmann

Did you download the Basic/Free version?
I also thought the Trial period was as long as you needed!?
What is your Warranty and Return Policy?
You get to use VueScan for as long as you want before you buy it, so we recommend you test it before you buy it to make sure it meets your needs.
All sales are final and there are no refunds.
Isn't this a bit harsh? Naah I actually prefer to solve problems, and if I offer refunds, people give up too easily. If I can't solve your problem after you send a few Problem Reports (see above), I'm happy to give a refund.

  • After installing the security update from 21.04.2015 my Phone does not start any more

    Hi everybody,
I have installed the update 10052 for my Lumia 535 DS and now it can't be started any more. When starting the phone the two gears appear and start moving but than it's turned off. This happens each time I'm trying to start the phone. Any suggestions to get
    my phone running again?

Hi Chris, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I think your choices are to...
    Reapply the Security update...
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/SecurityUpdate_2008_008__Client_PPC
    Reapply the Combo update...
The combo update for PowerPC-based Macs...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateppc.html
    Repair Permissions afterwards, reboot.
If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for an Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if the Disk Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows what could happen!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates.
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.

For some time (new version?) tabs opened before the closure(lock) of Firefox do not open any more when I restart Firefox

If you use [[Clear Recent History]] in Firefox 3.5/6 to clear the 'Browsing History' when Firefox is closed then restoring tabs from the last session (e.g. "Save & Quit" or "Show my windows and tabs from last time") doesn't work.

  • Help, my googlemaps can not use the gps any more after updated the software.

    hello
    i am fresh here
about a month ago i got a 9630 from bell
at first the googlemap works well, but a few days ago i updated the software(9630AMEA_PBr4.7.1_rel77_PL4.1.0.40_A4.7.1.40_Bell_Mobility_Inc)
since then it can't use the gps any more.
it always say "your current location is temporarily unavailable. gps temporarily unaviliable "
thank you very much if any buddy can help me

Go into your OPtions, then advanced options, applications and highlite google maps, menu button, edit permissions.  make sure they are set to "allow".  this will typically solve it.  also go into your GPS settings (under options) and make sure its set to "location On".
Try these and you should be back up and running.

This particular line caught my attention: " wlan0: de-authenticating from 00:1c:10:57:47:17 by local choice (reason=3)". So I searched for it (without the MAC address) on the internet and found several solutions for it, involving wpa_supplicant, dhcpcd, IPv6 (disable it on /etc/sysctl.d/40-ipv6.conf) and card power management (operation not supported, don't have option on BIOS), but none of them worked for me.

  • Safari is not loading any page after update

    Please help
I update the Mac software and since then, Safari is not loading any page.
    Any help please
    I have MacBookPro (Mac os x 10.6.8)
I am new to Mac world
Please help I don't have any browser other than safari

I have exactly the same problem - since the update Safari opens but won't load any sites. The progress bar starts but just hangs.
I've had to start using a different browser. The weird thing is, it works without any problems in my wife's account (we have 2 accounts and mine's the admin).
I tried uninstalling by dragging to the trash before downloading from the Apple site and installing again. But I guess I didn't remove all the files as it had remembered all my favourite sites, etc.
I don't know what you mean by extentions, but other apps that connect to the net that I have running are Mail, Skype, Dropbox and sometimes Vuse and Adium. But since these are also running in my wife's account, I can't see that being the problem.

  • Apps from my PC do not go any more into my iOS 5 IPhone4.

Since I have installed the new iOS 5 into my iPhone 4, all my apps disappeared from my iPhone. They are all still into my PC but I can not transfer them any more in my iPhone.   Each time the apps are display on my iPhone's screen, they are loading and just before the end of the installation they disappear and I get a message on my iPhone " Can not sync ".
    What to do ?
PS :  I have over 120 apps, I know I can download back each of them one by one.   But is there a way to take them stray from my PC ( since they are all there ).
Thank you very much in advance !

Yes.   Like I said, last week everything was working perfectly until I installed iOS 5.
Is there a way to take all my apps from my PC and send them into my iPhone....without to have to re-download one by one.
Again, when I try to drag an app from my PC to my iPhone,  each time the app is displayed on my iPhone, it seems to load correctly, then the installation...but just before the end of the installation, the app disappear and I get t'e message on my iPhone " can not sync ".
How can I fix that ?
Thank, have a good day !
