App download speed

The speed of downloading an app has been GREATLY increased. Before 2.1 an app typically took 1 to 2 minutes to install, now it's less than 30 seconds. And so far my battery life seems better, too. Nice work and keep improving it Apple -- copy/paste, landscape keyboard, voice dialing, video, numeric battery life meter etc. etc.

HI Jacques...
It's not the App Stoore....
Lion requires a broadband (highspeed) internet connection. It will never download on the connection you are currently using. Lion is a 4GB file. Takes about 35 to 40 minutes on broadband.
An alternative would be to purchase the thumb drive >  OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive - Apple Store
The thumb drive will be more convenient if you have to reinstall the Mac OS X or repair the startup disk. The only other way is to use Lion Recovery (online) and that won't work with your internet connection.
Make sure your Mac meets Lion's requirements;
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OSX v10.6.6 or later (V10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available spare

  • Why apps cannot be downloaded because of EXTREME SLOW DOWNLOAD SPEEDS?

    I have iPad 2 with iOS 6.1.3
Starting from last months until today, I have a big trouble with my iPad about EXTREMELY SLOW APP DOWNLOAD SPEED, in both downloading new apps and updating the currents apps from store.
Only one app can take 1-2 hours to be downloaded. Some times even half day needed. Or sometimes process can finish with fail and says "could not be downloaded at this time"
    IT IS PAINFUL !
I checked & did the following below, but I couldn't solve this issue. Please HELP !
    - My WIFI internet speed of home network is Great, no problem about that
    - I've already used a "Speed Test app" from iPad and it is great, no problem in the  speed also
    - I've checked the space and more than 30 GB is empty in the device
    - I've completely disabled Genius Apps feature
    - I tried many times hard reset by long pressing power and home buttons together
Nothing can be solution the the problem. What can be wrong about downloading apps?

  • Slow in-app downloads WiFi only

Since updating to iOS 6.1.3, I have noted significant worsening in in-app download speeds over WiFi. (iPad 4G and iPhone 5)
I use a number of apps that download large files. One is a medical text that updates 1-1.2 GB of data monthly. This used to take 30-40 minutes, now takes 8+ hours. Audible audiobooks (200-250MB) take 3-4 hours, MOG downloads take forever while music streams work fine. App updates seem to be ok and web browsing speeds also are not impaired. Speedtest reports more thatn adequate speeds on all the different WiFi networks I have tried.
This does seem to be limited to WiFi. Audible allows the first 50MB of a book to be downloaded over cellular data. Swapping from Wifi to 4g mid-download brings the rest of the audiobook down in seconds!
    Any one else noticing this?

I've been having exactly the same problem for a long time since iOS 6 on my iphone 4 and iphone 5.
I've tried to download files in several apps like Download Lite, GoodReader, Dropbox, Bookman, with which I used to do a lot of in-app download tasks. When using LTE on my iphone 5, the speed looks reasonable(500KB/s~1.5MB/s), but when I turn on the WiFi, the speed instantly drop to around 30KB/s.
The "official apps" like App Store, iTunes, iBook, however, seems not to be affected.
I am using WPA2 with AES for my WiFi connection, and turning to WPA/TKIP made no change.
Also tried to reset the network setting and neither does that have any effect.
Guess Apple is not going to fix it on iOS 6, should I expect a fix in the next release of iOS?
**EDIT**: I also have a iPad 2 (32GB WiFi only version) and the problem doesn't happen on it.
**EDIT2**: The problem also happen on another WiFi connection using WPA2 Enterprise.

  • Mac App Store download speed very slow...

I have been trying to download the App Store updates OS X Update 10.10.3 and OS X Yosemite Recovery Update to my iMac for the past several days.  When opening the Mac App Store, I click on updates and they appear.  However, when I select 'download' my download speed slows to the point of less than 1 MB per minute.
I seem to remember this happening when Yosemite was first released, but after a few days, I had no problem downloading Yosemite from the App Store.
This only occurs when trying to download from the Mac App Store.  When I download iOS App updates to iTunes I do not have the same problem so it seems to be only affecting the Mac App Store.
My internet speed is fine.  I can download fine from other websites, just not the Mac App Store.
After searching online, I found one solution that looked promising:
Finder->Applications->Utilities->Keychain Access->Preferences->Certificates->Certificate Revocation List- Changed from Best attempt to OFF.
Unfortunately for me this had no effect so I changed the setting back.
I then looked for a way I could download the files from outside the Mac App Store & found this:
       Apple - Support - Downloads
When downloading from Apple Support downloads page, my downloads were very fast.  The Yosemite 2 GB Combo update took about 15 minutes, a far cry from the App Store which would have taken hours.
Is there some setting I need to change to increase the download speed from the Mac App Store or is it just overloaded servers?  Why then can I download the files from the support page and not run into the same slow speeds?  Updating iTunes was also giving me very slow download speeds, so again, I went to the Apple Support Downloads & clicked the link to download the latest version of iTunes.  The file downloaded in about a minute.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Apple servers are overloaded. Instead of using App Store, use safari to download the updates manually from apple websites.
    Here's a link for OS X 10.10.2 Combo Update.
OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 Combo Update
I had the same issue and downloaded manually from this link. It took me about 30-40 minutes. I'm using a 5mb connection. Your 40mb connection should be faster.
As for the iOS updates, you will have to download them from your iOS devices, because there are no standalone updates for iOS. Alternatively after you update your Mac, use iTunes to download iOS updates by connecting your iOS devices with your Mac. That should be faster than downloading through your iOS devices.

  • My Apple ID don't sign in sometimes, and my app store download speed is very low

I recently upgraded my iOS to 7.0.4 and I am trying to download app from appstore. I had no problem in first 2-3 days but then my download speed decreased and I couldn't sign in properly to my apple ID. Now its all off and I cant sign in anymore.
I have no problem when I use my PC to sign in to Apple ID but I can not sign in through my IPAD 2.

Ok let me summazite my case :
In Office via wifi or enernet
    1. My account failed to login
    2. The other family account no issue
In Office via hotspot from my iPhone using 3G
    1. all accounts are working
At Home either wifi or 3G - No issue at all
I called Apple in Hong Kong, they said there are many users reporting the same problem, and they are investigating. Suggested me to reset the router and changing password, both do not solve .

  • App Store Download Speed became Slower

I am not sure what is wrong with the App Store now. It is taking longer than usual to download apps/games. It used to take 30-45 secs to download an app. However, it is now taking 15-20 mins, which is quite irritating when you needing the app almost immediately.
Since I'm living in Asia, during the day as other parts of the world are sleeping, the download speed became fast or moderate. When it is night time here and it's day time in some parts of the world, the speed became slower or moderate.
I wonder if any of you are having the same problem and the situation occured to you.

I don't see the problem. 2 hours only to wait?

  • Slow Internet download speed, OSX 10.9.5

Since updated to 10.9.5, my Mac Pro Internet download speed down to 7 Mbps,
and same on My MacBook Pro 10.9.5 too. both use to be 70 Mbps.
I am paying $50.00 extra to get the highest speed from Time Warner.
My iMac is 10.9.3, tops 70 Mbps.
My iPhone 5s tops tops 30 Mbps
    All in same WiFi network.
Upload speed all seem to be fine with 5 Mbps.
    Mac Pro = Mid 2010
Processor  2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  16 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB
Mac Book Pro = Retina, 13-inch Late 2012
    Memory = 8 GB
    Something wrong!

Even the 'respected' tools like Onyx, if you look at what (each and every update) states in the "what is new" and changes will be to improve compatibility.
Never use or install anything (and I include OS X updates in that category) without cloning your system and having TimeMachine that is current, and backup(s) that will be off line.
Some cannot be trashed or deleted or removed without using an "uninstall app" or the installer, doing so without can mean having to reinstall first.
Or wipe the drive and restore from a known good backup set.

  • 2009 Macbook issue: download speed limitation

    Hi
Mi wife got a late 2009 white macbook that's driving me crazy. Despite we got a 7Mbit ADSL connection and all others macs at home (we got 2 more 2008 macbooks and a 2008 macbook pro) with the very same OS version (10.6.4) and network settings are working properly and downloading at full speed, her one looks to have some kind of speed limitation in download to around 1.5 Mbps.
The ping and upload speeds are the very same of other computers, and apparently randomly the download speed also on that computer gets back to around 7 Mbps...
I just spent the afternoon doing tests and I got nowhere but maybe I found a pattern...
    First what I excluded:
-doesn't depend on how it's hooked to the net, same behavior by ethernet or wifi in both cases the other service was off
-any other mac using the same connection is working properly, did side by side tests
-ping is always the same on both computers used for test
-it is not a DNS issue
-deleted and created a new position in Network panel
    -did several restarts, no solution
-doesn't depend on a specific app being used (but maybe apps can matter, see below)
-none of possible fixes I found online did work
-probably it isn't related to OS version or updates, this issue has likely been there since a lot of time, and over more os updates (not really sure of this, we had unrelated netwok issues and changed provider for that reason in last year, we cot a stable and uniform environment just recently)
    Now what I noticed:
-As soon as the computer is started and I open a single browser (be it Safari, Chrome or Firefox doesn't change) speedtest.net test is ok, 7Mbps download.
-work and navigate with it, it's ok, download speed remains 7Mbps
-As soon another internet using application is opened (Mail, another browser) the connection speed drops to 1.5 Mbps (this is ALWAYS the limit, no relevant fluctuation in this)
-If I close any of above apps and remain with a single browser, running tests initially report still the 1.5 limit, but shortly after (one or two minutes) the speed gets back to 7Mbps
My wife needs to work with Mail, Skype, and at least two browsers open, so this limit is giving her great troubles

    taylor.henderson wrote:
-none of possible fixes I found online did work
This doesn't really help narrow down the problem
    {quote}
doh, you are right... sorry... the possible fixes I had found around are the ones reported right before...
Create a new user account on the problem computer and see if the slow speeds and strange behaviour persists in it.
    I did, it does...
    - created a new user and logged in
    - opened Safari, speedtest returns 7Mbit/s in download
    - opened Firefox, after a little speed drops to 1.4
    - some successive test starts slow (1.4) then sometimes speeds up, but most remain at 1.4
    - start chrome too, same behaviour
    - close Safari and Firefox, wait a little (1 or 2 minutes) do the test with Chrome, back to 7Mbit/s
Then go through stuff like this http://www.gballard.net/macrant/osx_troubleshooting.html.
I went through it and did most of what's suggested there (it's a little complex because when I am not working my wife is usually using her macbook to study and needs to use it all the time)...
    - unused disk space is 95,6 GB
    - booted in single user mode and did a fsck -fy
    - repaired permissions
Nothing changed, both the behavior takes place in new user account, and in main one, where any internet using application (Mail, Skype...) opened together causes the download slow down...

  • Is there any difference of the Downloading speed of Folio if i'm in Enterprise or Professional Editi

    Hi Adobe,
I have compared the downloading time between Adobe Multi-Viewer and Zinio App(also hosting digital magazine), I found out that it is so much faster in Zinio.
Are there any difference of the downloading speed if let's say the I'm in Enterprise or in Professional edition?
    Thank you for the response!

There is no speed throttling that I’m aware of.

I'm on the East Coast, USA.  Here are my stats.  I think they're more like what you are looking for.
    1.  Do you have any internet security or firewall app on there???
    2.  Have you gone to your Network Preferences, and clicked on "Assist Me?"  It could be a setting is messed up.
    3.  How much RAM is in your MBP?
    4.  If you are near an Apple Store, I would take it in and have them troubleshoot it for you.

  • Download speeds awful on 4mb line

Please can someone hear this out because it's driving me mad. I have two Macs, iMac G5 and iBook. I alos have a, dare I say it, a PC laptop. I am connected to the internet with Telewest Broadband (blueyonder) on a 4mb line. My download speeds on the Macs is around 90KB sec - yet on the PC I get around 400KB sec! I have tested this out by plugging each machine directly into the modem. Tech support at blueyonder is unhelpful and claims it's the mac's fault. Does anyone have any suggestions because I can't even stream the smallest quicktime movie trailer smoothly anymore. I have no other apps running when tested and even turned the firewall off. If one mac was slow then I would at least have something to go on but both are the same. I downloaded the same files from their download test site gamefiles.blueyonder.co.uk as they instructed. But I was talking to a technician who asked what Firefox was when I told him one of the browsers I was trying. Incidentally the speeds were the same for Safari, Firefox and Camino. Please can someone suggest something... many thanks

Thanks for that link. And well well well, there was my new motorola listed as the one I shouldn't have. So anyway, I got on the phone to Telewest and they said - 'oh, you are the first person to say anything'. They have agreed to swap it with another model - so hopefully things will improve. Interesting though that they were not aware of any issues.
Thank you for a speedy response - faster than my download speed!

  • IPad (gen 3) wifi download speeds

I recently upgraded my Comcast Internet to 50Mbps download speeds.  Using the Speedtest.app I am showing around 30 Mbps on both my iPad (gen 3) and iPhone 4s.  I was wondering if anyone has been able to achieve faster download speeds than that on an iPad/iPhone.
I was hoping that it would be faster considering my three year old Mac gets 55 Mpbs when connected via ethernet to the internet and that same Mac using wireless (in same room as wireless router and iPad/iPhone) gets over 50Mbps.
    Thanks for sharing.
p.s. I am using an Airport Extreme AC wireless router

From what you've told us, the iPad should see the printer.  No, you do not need any additional software on your iPad.  You just need to be sure the HP drivers are current.

  • IPhone truncated download speed?

We have 7mb download speeds at our home. I check the speed via our laptops and indeed it is 7mb. When I test the speed via the iPhone the best it can do is 2mb. Is there an issue with my iPhone or is this simply a limitation on the hardware?

Cool idea. Yea, I am at work now and we have a T1. I just used the same app for the test that you did and the download speeds are upwards 12MB. Also, I used that same app to test at home. So, the truncated iPhone NIC theory is now officially toasted. The question does remain as to why this happens with the iPhone. Case in point: a Macintosh and two PCs have a steady 6.5mb average download and on the same network the iPhone is chugging along at 2mb.

  • Poor Download speeds in the evening, What can be d...

    Hi All,
This question has probably been answered a million times so my apologys if it has. I tried downloading something last night and my download speeds were absolutely **bleep**, something like 4.3kbs a second!!!!!!
Now am I right in thinking that this is BT's stupid throttling occuring to me. In the day I get awesome speeds and have no issues at all.
On Sky BB I never had any issues at anytime and got around 6.5mb download speeds and my sync speed was 7.5mb. I ran a speed test last night and was getting the speed quoted what I pay for!? Can someone help me with this!?
    Thanks
    Steve

I take it your talking about P2P/torrents, heavily traffic managed by BT.
