App Error 104 troubleshooting

I've got a Blackberry Bold 9900 running Software Version 7.1 Bundle 1997, my carrier is AT&T. The phone is a couple of months old after the screen died on my previous Bold 9700. I use it primarily as a phone, calendar, and address book, lots of email and some web surfing. I have 6 email accounts installed. I'm not connected to an Enterprise Server, I don't do any social media stuff or games. About the only 3rd party app I currently have installed is Six Tools and that's fairly recent.
A week or two after getting the phone I started getting App Error 104 on a white screen with an OK button. AT&T tech support doesn't know much about it but did say their database says it's a network database error. According to http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB32737 it's a known error with no current resolution. I thought I'd post what I know about it to see if it helps someone resolve it. I'd prefer not to wipe the phone and do a selective reinstall.
One of the first things I installed was Opera Mini because I prefer that browser. There was no problem as a result of that. Then when tech support was helping me resolve some calendar issues we used the "Move" command to try and get all my calendar items in one calendar. I had a couple of thousand items mostly in one calendar, but a few scattered through 2 others. That didn't work, even after several tries. However I did start getting the App Error screens, sometimes several in a row. Occasionally I'd need to reboot. I determined that having Opera running (or starting it) caused multiple errors. It if was closed I got very few. Uninstalling Opera made them almost go away, maybe one every few days instead of every few minutes sometimes. Reinstalling Opera made them come back. Removing it made them go away again. When I'd get them in Opera, Opera would lose it's ability to connect to the internet until I rebooted. I'd also not be able to connect to any of my email servers.
One other thing that will still cause the error consistently is having the phone connected via a USB cable with the Desktop Software running and then receiving an email. I'm not sure if a synchronization is required first, I think so but it's too infrequent for me to be sure. When that happens the Desktop Software loses it's connection and the phone is frozen until I wake it up and press OK. It won't receive any emails again until the error is cleared, they just back up on the server. Even the battery monitoring software (Device | Advanced System Settings | Blackberry Device Analyzer | Battery Tests) freezes. The battery keeps charging so the monitor shows a flat line then a big jump once it wakes up. Having the phone connected and synched using Bluetooth does not cause any problems.
Both the Opera and the Synch issues could relate to a network interface problem. It appears that the latest version of Opera aggravates something in the phone software. Hopefully that will help someone figure out where to look for the problem.
Is anyone who is having App Error 104 problems running Opera? If so does uninstalling Opera make it get better? Is anyone running Opera without App Error 104? My guess is that it won't cause problems for most people and that mine was related to the large number of items in my multiple calendar's, the attempt to merge them, and the presence of Opera. We did get the calendar issues resolved by refreshing the Service Books. App Error persists but it's at an acceptable level for now.

hello,
I did read your message entirely.
I know it is not the answer you hope for, but what I would do in your position is proceed with the security wipe then selective restore, then live one week without installing Opera Mini.

I'm so desperate now. How can I solve this? Please help.

    Hey borgz,
Try backing up your device via the BlackBerry Desktop Software and performing a clean reload of your device software. http://bbry.lv/bpv7DT
Make sure to restart to test for the error message before restoring any data from your backup file.

  • BB 8320 showing APP error 523. How do I back up data before installing new os

Help me pls I'm very desperate> my BB is just over 1 year old. Woke up to find the screen with APP ERRor 523 reset . I've tried all tricks in previous treads without success. Only thing left is to install new os. Trouble is that the BB is not backed up yet. How can I back it up before removing old os and installing a new os

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Sorry, but it is highly likely that your data is already lost...so there is nothing to backup now. This simply proves the point that there are two kinds of computing device users...those who have lost data...and those who will. Backups before things go wrong are simply not optional.
Good luck and let us know!

  • App Error 523 Reset

Will somebody please help with my BB Pearl 8110 by walking me through
the complete resolution to this problem?
It all began by turning itself on and off, on and off.
I checked for updates an began the update process to v 5?
Unfortunately it must've turned itself on and off, on and off causing
    App Error 523 Reset.
I followed other advice like hard and soft reboots? and my BB began
Blinking 4 times then once repeatedly.
So after going through, what I thought were the correct steps to recover
    I've once again returned to
    App Error 523 Reset.
At this point all I want is my BlackBerry back. Forget any personal items
I once had. I'll start all over again.
Thanks a bunch for any help and if it helps I will surely post so.
    Scott

    Hello!
We are so sorry that you are having so many difficulties. While many experience the same (a search here will reveal that fact), there are also many who have very positive experiences with their BB. Not every device is suitable for everyone -- which IMHO is why there are so many choices.
FYI -- these forums are a user-to-user support channel, not a user-to-RIM conduit. As such, it is unfortunate that we all missed your post and did not provide any useful responses to you...but, we are volunteers and not paid RIM support folks...sometime we just miss things. But a perusal through these forums will I think show your experience to be abnormal (as far as helpfulness in these forums is concerned). But, yes, I am biased...I volunteer a lot of time here when I can.
For the benefit of others who search and find this thread, here is the relevant KB for resolving the 523 error:
KB11816 Error "523 app.error.Reset" appears on the BlackBerry smartphone

  • App Error 602 & "Uncaught exception: Application net_rim_bb_messaging_app(144) is not responding; process terminated"

    Hi,
I have spent a whole and very frustrating day trying to solve the following problem and in exasperation I resort to a posting here. Note no changes had been made to the phone prior to the start of the problem.
My Blackberry 9800 Torch freezes on power-up. It can only be ‘unfrozen’ by taking out the battery or, if left alone, after many minutes it comes up with the white screen, ‘App Error 602' and ‘Reset’ which is highlighted. Resetting has the same effect as taking out the battery. After each restart, it goes through the usual security and time checks and then freezes again. However, on rare occasions I got the message “Uncaught exception: Application net_rim_bb_messaging_app(144) is not responding; process terminated”.
Soon after the restart, after the Security Software Verification and on confirming the time/date, there is a very small window of opportunity (literally a couple of seconds) to access the phone. After much trial and error, I discovered that (in Manage Connections) by disabling the Mobile Network and WiFi - effectively putting it into ‘aeroplane mode’ - the device would work, without any problem and indefinitely. Except, of course, I couldn’t access the phone network nor the internet, which isn’t helpful(!).
I have taken this opportunity to do a full back-up on to my PC, through BlackBerry Desktop Software (though I’m not sure this backs up downloaded Apps??). Separately, I've also copied all the subdirectories from the phone’s memory and media card on to the PC, retaining their correct structures (but presumably also copying the corruption causing the problem?).
    Any ideas???
    - thanks in advance!

The method you are attempting is the automatic method...sometimes it just doesn't work, and you must take control. The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software

  • App Error 603 Reset

Everything I have read posted re: this error is useless to me I have a Boostmobile BB Curve 9310 and haven't added any apps for awhile and all of a sudden the phone rebooted and instead of going to the home screen it went to a white screen with the error message " App Error 603"Reset, the only option you have is to reset and it just does the exact same thing.  the posts as well as Blackberry's tech info on this state this is caused by a Java driven app that has created the problem and that the phone needs to have the OS reinstalled, sounds good but this error on my phone bars the usb cable from seeing the phone as it normally would, so since you can't see the phone you can't modidy, or delete anything much less re-install the OS, there is another post that suggests the use of the BBSAK program to reload the OS, same problem the program doesn't see the phone so NO CIGAR. Why is it that RIM doesn't have its techs working on this issue ??? Obviously its not an isolated problem.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I do not see that you have yet tried these tricks:
KB10144 How to force the detection of the BlackBerry smartphone using Application Loader
KB27956 How to recover a BlackBerry smartphone from any state
    http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101-lecture-12-how-reload-operating-system-nuked-blackberry
You might also need to, instead of the web update site, install the Desktop Software and your BB OS package to your PC:
    1) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    2) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?lid=us:bboftwareesktopSoftware&lpos=us:bboftware
    3) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    4) If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
Now try the various tricks listed above and see if you can get your OS reloaded to your BB.
If things remain problematic, you may also want to try this procedure to perhaps narrow down the precise causal item:
Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents
When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.
If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.
If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.
Good luck and let us know!

  • App error 552 PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Hi for days now i have had a white screen and small writing on saying app error 552. The phone will not come on at all, just resets to the same screen so I cant do anything via the phone.
I asked on my facebook and was giving a link to try for some software. I downloaded it and it recognised my phone (well i think it did) but kept saying no updates available. and wouldnt do anything basically could not choose options or device as no highlighted options.
I was then told today to download another which i did, I downloaded blackberry device software for my phone and installed.
After installation and On starting the program, it comes up with : Devie connection, enter pin?
It does not have any options and wont let me input anything in to it.
I was told if I got the software I could plug in to the computer via a usb and do a master reset, or reset and delete all files and hardware and this would sort out the problem.
I just need help, i can do it if i have clear instructions to read, simpler the better lol. I dont want to have to get a new phone.
I dont care if i lose everything as long as i cn use it and get stuff back on it.
    Please help all suggestions welcome.

  • Java App error

When I open Firefox I get a Java App error. "TypeError: Components.classes['@ica.com/XPCOM/ICAFFComponent;1'] is undefined". Have a very hard time running any site with Java.
I really like Firefox and have it set up for use with all my daily work. I do not want to go back to IE but did upgrade see below.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Here is a KB that discusses that error:
KB30100 "JVM 200" appears on the BlackBerry smartphone
Hopefully it contains something useful! There also are multiple existing threads on this site that discuss that exact error...your review of those might prove useful, and a search of this site, using the error message, error code, or symptom, should reveal all applicable existing threads to you.
You also might want to do an OS reload. The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages

You may also want to try the "Bare Bones OS Reload Procedure" to attempt to narrow down the precise causal item:
Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.

  • App Error 204 - Reset' (BB Torch 9810)

    Helloo..
I have been trying to resolve this error but no luck
There's an error 'App Error 204 - Reset' appearing with whole white screen all of a sudden. I cannot access my phone as I click on Reset it reboots automatically and then shows the same error screen. I have restarted several times, taken out the battery and even rebooted (alt+ctrl+del) but no use.
Please help  me out the phone has stopped working and i'm not sure what the reason is. I don't remember my pin but i can provide you with my cell model number - Blackberry Torch 9810.
    Please please

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I've never seen a 204, and find no documentation about it. So, I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode
It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.
Good luck and let us know!
