App Expose and Mission Control in Lion

Several people have posted, confused by how App Expose works. I hope to clarify the function of App Expose and Mission Control.
APP EXPOSE
App Expose in Lion works differently than Expose did in Snow Leopard.
App Expose is intended to show all open windows from the same application.
Expose used to show all open windows from all applications.
To test App Expose in Lion, open two (or more) separate windows in Safari (or any application). Three-finger swipe down on your trackpad and App Expose will reveal your two (or more) open Safari windows.
MISSION CONRTOL
In Lion, the most similar thing to the old Expose (from Snow Leopard) is the new Mission Control.
To test Mission Control, open several applications. Three-finger swipe up on your trackpad and Mission Control will reveal all open applications, dashboard and spaces. If you have multiple windows open in a single applications (like three separate Safari windows, for example), MIssion Control groups those same-app windows together.

Mission Control ended years of divergent attempts to manage windows and widgets, consolidating Expose, Dashboard, and Spaces into a new Mac interface.

  • Multiple Displays, Fullscreen Apps, and Mission Control

I love Lion, however one thing that has always bothered me was the fact that it doesn't play nicely with multiple displays. Full screen apps do not allow the other display(s) to be available for use with that app is in fullscreen mode. And Mission Control doesnt behave as expected with multiple displays.
A simple solution would be the following. When you have two displays side by side and you do a three finger swipe to the left, the contents in display 2 would then fill display 1, then the contents in desktop three, would fill display 2. So really, each display would have its own desktop rather than sharing one desktop from the other displays. If the user has different size displays, shrink the window to fit the display. This would also solve the fullscreen issue because the other display has its own desktop. Let me know what you think of this idea and if it can be implemented.
Honestly, this is getting pretty frustrating, so please Apple, fix this. Thank you.

Following the fix here worked for me:

  • My spaces and mission control stop working shortly after startup

My spaces and mission control stop working shortly after startup.  The feature to activate it on the keyboard won't work, also trying to open the app itself doesn't do anything and the multitouch two finger swipe and hpt corners I have setup don't do anything as well.  Any idea on what might be conflicting to cause this?

Try moving your com.apple.spaces.plist from the preferences folder to the desktop then give it a try.  To get your preference folder you will need to hold down the option key while clicking on the go menu in the finder then click on library then click the preferences folder.

  • Launchpad and Mission Control animations are slow

Recently the animations for when opening Launchpad and Mission Control have been slower than usual. All the other animations seem to working fine and it's just those two which are the problem. Now whenever I try to open either one of them it would take ages and theres no point opening it at all. Is there a file that I could edit ot is there a Terminal command to speed it up?

  • Mountain Lion and Mission Control

I upgraded to Mountain Lion. Since then Mission control freezes on a daily basis and will only reset by doing a computer restart. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

This happens to me too - I think the  problem is somehow related to the screen saver and system sleep. There's an easy remedy:
Go to your System Preferences --> Desktop and Screen Saver. Click on the "Screen Saver" section, and click "Hot Corners". Set one of your hot corners to "Start Screen Saver".
Next time Mission Control fails, just point your mouse to the "Start Screen Saver" hot corner, and wait for the screen saver to start up. When you start working again, Mission Control  will be back to normal.
It doesn't fix the problem, but it's whole lot faster than restarting or logging out each time it happens.

  • Mission Control causing Lion to crash.

    Hi all,
hopefully someone can help me out.
I installed Lion soon after it was released on my work computer (I know, I know) anyway, every time I launched Mission Control it would flash a grey screen and log out. I even lost some work - really annoying.
So I backed everything up and did a clean install, thinking that the iteration of Lion I had installed over top of Snow Leopard was maybe corrupt somehow. I began to reinstall my most critical apps and a few system tweaks that I use, and I've noticed that using Mission Control now is still causing all kinds of problems. I guess I can just deactivate it, but it's hella annoying and I'd really like to get to the bottom of the cause. I've done some troubleshooting and removed some things but have not been able to isolate the problem. I've looked through the console, but not being super fluent in consolese have not located the clear culprit.
I have a feeling it's a graphics card issue, but I'm not sure, and if it is, I have no clue how to fix it.
Below is the console log from the time Mission Control is activated to the crash. Hopefully someone out there can decipher this and give me some insight as to what is the issue. Thanks!!!

it looks like the GPU is kinda screwed up. I found this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2268642?start=0&tstart=0 that discusses replacing the graphics card. Looks like this http://www.macpalace.com/mac-parts/p/661-4180-card-video-nvidia-geforce-7600-gt- 256-mb-vram/ is about the best price ($229)I can find with a quick search, so it's either:
    a) leave it as is and not use mission control and wait till I can afford to upgrade to a new rig
    b) spend $250 or so with shipping and do the replacement myself, and hope that fixes the problem
    Hmmm.

  • Showing minimized windows in mission control in LION

Hello All..Just installed LION On my 13' MBP...I have a small problem with the mission control...Previously, i have a hot corner set up which shows all the open windows at one time ( also shows the minimized ones)..but now, i can only see the the ones which are open....for example if i have chrome browser minimized , it is not showing....kind of very annoying....any one please help...Thanks

App Expose is fine if you knew the window you were looking for was minimized, instead of hidden behind another window.
Also you need to be in that app to bring up its minimised windows - which is irritating if you are using more than one app to manipulate files.
    Consider this: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

  • Apps show in mission control but won't open after it has gone to screen saver

I have three desk tops open on Mission Control, plus dash board. If I leave the computer and come back later and go to the desk top there is nothing there. When I click on the app it shows it is open, but just flashes and then it is gone. I have set the app, under options, to be on a particular desktop. I have to close out the app and reopen it to see it.

    Disable screen saver. Restart.

  • Problems with scrolling and Mission Control

    I have this problem:
When scrolling down any page, the letters will blur at the top of the screen and not the bottom.
When swiping acrross pages in the launchpad, it occasionaly freezes half way between the two.
When I swipe up with four fingers to access mission control, the screen becomes very sluggish. Swiping back down (or clicking a tab) is even worse, causing slow "laggy" animations.

  • Kind of bug in Mission Control (Mountain Lion)

    Hi,
I'm experiencing an issue with Mission control in ML. It's a little bit touchy to explain with my broken english !
In the first space, I opened the finder and tried to move it to the second space (quite simple). The first attempt do not work. As you can see, the space 2 do not change his color (first image). When I release the window, the window get back to his preliminary position (in space 1). The second attempt works fine, when I release the window on the second space, the window is well placed (good image). So, only one movement out of two do the trick. I can reproduce this each time. Is this a normal behavior ?

  • Hotspot JVM and Mission Control Availability

    Hi,
I've read in a lot of places how Flight Recorder is now supported in JDK 7u4 and up. Following some excellent posts on various blogs (ex: http://hirt.se/blog/), I've been able to run a few captures. However, I've run into a number of stumbling blocks:
    1) Despite all documentation I have read, I have yet to find any HotSpot release that contains any jfr recording templates. They are usually reported to be available in jre/lib/jfr but this folder is inevitably absent from all releases I've checked. Any idea why that is?
    2) I have read many mentions of Mission Control 5.x (there appears to have been a few releases), but it's nowhere to be found. Mission Control 4.1 is publicly available, so I expected/hoped 5.x to be as well. Maybe it's not? Any plans to make it available?
    3) Using MC 4.1, I can open the JFR report, but no stats are available aside from Thread start and end events. The output file itself being binary, I'm not sure if it's because other events are not captured (I tried a variety of templates), or because this version of MC does not recognize them. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Sebastien

Well, should anybody stumble upon this with the same question, here's some additional info:
Java Mission Control has its own forum: Java Mission Control
It also has its own twitter account: https://twitter.com/javamissionctrl
From all evidence it looks like it's still not available unless you have an active support contract. As for the release date, it looks tantalizingly close. I wish it would be available in some sort of beta mode.

  • Plug ins and Mission Control

Does anyone know if it is possible to move plug-in windows in Logic X to other spaces (desktops) with Mission Control?  I was hoping to get a setup like in Reason where one screen has the mixer panel, another has the rack, and another has the sequencer panel.  When I open a plug-in (Battery in this case), it can be moved to another space, but when I open that space and click on Battery's plug-in window, Logic's gui slides back over and they are both showing.  Does anyone know what I'm talking about and have a solution?
    THANKS

Ok. Thanks! But can someone give me feedback on the usage of them? (Especially syntAX)
It states it's compatible with logic but doesn't actually state .AU ready. Will I need a wrapper of some sort to use this plug-in? The only plug-ins I really use in LE8 at this point are ESX24 and the FX. I have tons of apple loops but never really looked into using VIs in Logic. I tried using a few that come with LE8 (namely AMGs One) but it doesn't work properly as it can't find certain files.
Any one with advice on some good Logic compatible plugins?

  • On OS X Lion, suddenly i've lost my desktop and mission control gave me a grey background. My desktop is seen as a window hidden. How can I do ?
