App folders disappear

I turned on my iPhone 4 with OS 4.1 yesterday morning, and all of my folders were gone, with the apps now arranged in alphabetical order. There was only one folder, a new one named Utilities that contained several of the apps that come with the phone.
I've seen other threads about this happening after synching, but the last time I synched was 5 days ago, and I had turned the phone off and on each day since then with no problem.
I hoped to get things restored by synching (Lenovo laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate). I launched iTunes, connected the iPhone 4, and when I clicked on "Apps" in iTunes, iTunes appeared to freeze. There was no indication that synching was happening. This lasted about a minute, and when iTunes came back to life, it displayed the apps in the same way as on the phone -- except that the letters of the app names on about half of the apps were superimposed over each other, making many app titles unreadable. (No such problem on the iPhone 4.) I exited iTunes, then re-launched it, and at least the lettering of the app names was back to normal.
Again, while others have posted about folders disappearing after they synched, the last time I synched was 5 days before this event, and I had turned the phone off each night and on each morning after synching for 4 days with no problem.
What's going on, Apple? If this phenomenon is caused by some sort of malware, let us know, and tell us how to protect ourselves. (My phone is NOT jailbroken.) If it's your problem, then please fix it. It took me about 2 hours to get all of my apps organized again, and I do not appreciate that.

Make sure you do not have
automatic sync
First select transfer purchases
itunes with your device/iphone
attached.
Backup your iphone (take a mental
note or record time you backup)
Enable restrictions on iphone
-go to Settings/
General/Restrictions/ Select on
applies to install and delete
apps
check sync apps
and unselect automatically sync new apps
(if itunes does not allow this and
states warning this will remove
apps from iphone, hit okay)
if itunes syncs, slide to cancel
on your iphone.
Now you should see your iphone
display no longer grayed out on
the itunes/computer display  and your folders will
now appear on itunes. At this point deselect
automatically sync new apps on the
left display of itunes.
Now check any apps in the itunes under the "checked sync apps"
that may have had their check marks removed and you should see all of your folders on your iphone retained and appearing on the itunes devices display.
GO about further organizing your folders, sync, and your folders will be retained on both itunes and your iphone.
Good luck.

  • Folders disappear after updating all apps

Spend all this time organizing apps in folders, then as soon as I "update all apps" the folders disappear and the apps are in alphebetical order again. This has happened several times. Also some of the apps will be gone because there are too many to fit without folders. What good is the folder feature if they won't stay there? Anyone know if I'm doing something wrong or if this is a bug with i0S4? I have a 2nd gen. Ipod touch. The folder feature is supposed to work with it.

    Painthead--
I have a 2nd Gen iPod touch. The folders feature does work with it; I've had no issues...yet.
Try this: once you have moved apps into folders--before doing the update all apps--let the iPod synch. You then should be able to update apps to your hearts content, because both the iPod and iTunes understand your folders.

  • While installing app updates on my original iPad, my wallpaper reverted to black, my folders disappeared.  How do I fix this?

While installing app updates, my wallpaper for both Home &  Lock Screens reverted to black and cannot be re-set.  All folders disappeared as well.  What now? RESET?

Yes, reboot:  Hold the power and home buttons at the same time for at least 10 seconds (keep holding past the swipe to shut down bar if it appears) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart.  Hopefully, things will be back to normal.......

  • I updated to ios7 and now some of my apps have "disappeared." Ideas of how to restore them?

I updated to IOS7 and now some of my apps have "disappeared." Any ideas of how to restore them?

They most likely got pushed to another page. Try swiping all the way from righ to left.
Also folders have mutiple pages now (used to hold 16 now only 9 per page) too. If the app was in a folder, go to that folder and try swiping to a different page inside the folder.
    If not check your restrictions:
    Settings > General > Restrictions
Can you find it by searching (swipe down from the middle of the screen)?
If so does it say something on the right sid of the app in the search box, if so that is the folder it is in.

  • My itunes app has disappeared from my iphone?  Help!

My itunes app has disappeared from my iphone and also my app store icon.  How do I get them back?  I have reset the home page 4 times and they do not come back.

If you can't find them on any of your homescreens or app folders, and you can't find them via the spotlight search screen, then are they hidden by Settings > General > Restrictions > Installing Apps and iTunes being set 'off' ?

  • How to delete App folders

I cloud drive is showing various app folders - I have deleted the app but how do I delete the folder from iCLoud drive?

    Same issue here.
I installed iMovie for iOS because I thought it would enable me to export slow-mo videos with the correct frame rate, but it didn't. So I deinstalled it again, and now I'm stuck with an empty iMovie folder in my iCloud drive that can not be deleted, not even after removing iMovie from the iCloud backup list in the settings. The iMovie folder only disappeared for a moment after I did that, but soon bounced back.
Not even being able to remove a folder doesn't invite me to switch from Google Drive to iCloud Drive yet.

  • IPad and iPhone photos/folders disappear in Aperture 3

    Hello all,
As my subject line states I'm having problems with my photos/videos and their folders disappearing in Aperture 3. I can import them without problem via Aperture's built in import feature. I created a folder called iPhone and one called iPad and then import into the appropriate folders.
My problem occurs when I close Aperture. When I reopen my folders and all the projects/photos are gone. This has happened to me to numerous times. It does not occur with the other folders/projects that I have in my library.
I am using the latest aperture update and OSX 10.6.8. All of my IOS are up to date as well and not jail broken. With regards to the photos/videos on my ipad they are mostly ones transferred to my ipad via the camera connection kit.
Thanks for any help or insight you can give.

These are user-to-user forums, so I've asked the hosts to remove your email address from your post (posting it on public forums can lead to spam).
Only photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad.  Photos that were synced from your computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from on your computer and then re-syncing.
In terms of editing them, on iOS 6 I get an Edit button at the top left of the screen which gives me some edit options at the bottom of the screen : rotate, enhance, red-eye, crop. The edited version will then be saved to the Camera Roll album, the original photo is left untouched.  There are also third-party photo editing apps e.g. Photoshop Express (which is free with some in-app options) - they will also save the edited version to the Camera Roll album, the original photo will be left unaltered.

  • App Folders in Configurator

I'm using Configurator to control 30 iPads at my school, I can backup a master and push to all but can't use the 'Supervise' function. Each time I try to supervise all the folders disappear and I'm left with a mess of apps.
I have also checked all the skip boxes under the Setup in Prepare but still get the white 'Hello' screen on every iPad after doing the push - very time consuming to go through each one to set up after an update.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Stephen

    Hi Stephen,
Start with a new iPad. Supervise it with Configurator.
After its supervised, go through any setup windows and adjust any settings.
    Add apps via Configurator.
Create folders of apps and make any final changes to Settings, Home Screen, etc.
When it looks exactly the way you want it, run a Supervised Backup of the iPad.
Use that Supervised Backup and restore it to all of the other iPads.
    Hope this helps!

  • My iTunes app has disappeared off my iPad? Does anybody know how to recover it?

My iTunes app has disappeared off my iPad? Does anybody know how to recover it?

If you can't find it on any of your homescreens or app folders, and you can't find it via the spotlight search screen (swipe your first home screen to the right), then is it hidden by Settings > General > Restrictions > iTunes being set 'off' ?
If not then have you tried a reset to see if you can find it after the iPad has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • IPhone APP Folders

I have a lot of apps downloaded on my iphone excess of 200
Had them neatly organized in folders.
Was working fine for a while
Not sure if anything changed but when I tried to synch with my home desktop suddenly all folders disappeared.
Tried shutting down and restarting the iphone4
    Folders still gone
Then startted the process of recrating the folders again
When I organize the same online  and click synch they again disappear and I am back to all apps as is without folders
    How do I fix this?
    Thanks in advance

Hello I combed many threads on this.
      I finally resolved it.
if you have not performed a sync before, backup your iphone to save your folders.
If you lost your folders storing your apps
First restore the last backup of your iphone.  (You may have to do it twice.
Ie restore backup, then when sync occurs after back up. stop the sync.
    Then hit restore backup.
The above was on other threads.
Now for resolving the disappearing folders do the following:
Make sure you do not have
    automatic sync
    First select transfer purchases on
    itunes with your device/iphone
attached (this will back up your purchases to itunes).
Backup your iphone (take a mental
note or record time you backup)
    Enable restrictions on iphone
    -go to Settings/
    General/Restrictions/ Select on
    applies to install and delete
apps  (this prevents itunes from deleting your iphone data)
    check sync apps
and unselect automatically sync new apps
(if itunes does not allow this and
    states "warning this will remove
apps from iphone, hit okay...itunes will now try to sync and wipe out your iphone folders..)
if itunes syncs, you must slide to cancel sync
on your iphone to retain your folders.
Now you should see your iphone
display no longer grayed out on
the itunes/computer display  and your folders will
be the same on your iphone and will appear on itunes on your computer.
    At this point deselect
automatically sync new apps on the
    left display of itunes.
Now check any apps in the itunes under the "checked sync apps" box
that may have had their check marks removed in the prior sync process and you should see all of your folders on your iphone retained and the folders will now also appear on the itunes devices display.
GO about further organizing your folders on the itunes/computer display,
Now  sync, and your folders will be retained on both itunes and your iphone.  Finally resolved.
The disappearing folders seems to occur when one uses two computers for syncing.  Prior to this method my folders would disappear. No more.
    Good luck.

  • IPhone 4 - all folders disappeared!

I've had all of my apps synced into folders for several weeks now. I just synced my iPhone 4 because I accidentally deleted one of my apps. Once the sync was complete, all of my folders disappeared! Now I've got to start all over again.
Has anything like this happened to anyone else?

That's along the same lines with what I was thinking. Also, the app that I accidentally deleted was a beta version of an app that is not yet in the App Store. So that gives another layer of instability right there.
But... even before I started testing this new app, something similar happened. I had an iPhone 3GS with a bunch of nicely organized folders. Again, these folders were created on the iPhone. When I received my iPhone 4 in the mail, I synced my 3GS one last time. Once I activated the iPhone 4, I chose to 'restore from backup'. I made sure it was the most recent one. Once the restore was complete, only two folders remained and oddly enough, they were empty. The rest of the apps were just listed alphabetically throughout the home screens.
I smell a defect... I think. That first folder incident was while using iTunes 9.2.

  • Apps' logos disappear after urgrade to iOS 4.1

I just upgrade my iPhone 4 to iOS 4.1 from iOS 4.0.1 last weekend. I found out that apps' logos in some folders disappear. When I click the folder, all apps are still there. When I go to other pages, same thing happens to other folders... bug of iOS 4.1?

    I have a Ipad II
I have tried all these fixes and nothing seams to work.  My app's have been on hold for week to get updated.  I assumed I did not have a good enough connection, but Im in starbucks with a good connection and still no luck.  I upadted today to 5.1.1 .. I have tried tup downloand a new app, just in a holding pattern. When I pause it and ask it to reload, it says
"unable to download application"  done or retry are my options. Tried retry many times, with  no success.
I have tried to shut it off holding the side button but the red bar does not disapear. It stays there until I give up.
I have logged out, shut down, logged back in..
    Any suggetions????
I saw something about the DNS??  Is that for the Ipad or a computer?
    Thank you

  • My IPhone texting app has disappeared.

My IPhone texting app has disappeared.

The Messages app is a native iOS app and cannot be deleted. Check your other home pages and folders to see if you can locate it. If not, then go to Search and type in Messages and see if it shows up. If it does, see if it lists a folder to the right of the listing.
If you cannot find it, then try a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. If you still cannot locate it, then go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout. That should bring it back.

  • OSX Server webdav bug? - files and folders disappears when filenames are fewer than 7 characters

OSX Server webdav bug? - files and folders disappears when filenames are fewer than 7 characters
    Dear Community,
i have a BIG problem with Apple webdav.
All files or folders with fewer than 7 characters in filename disappear.
The problems is only between Mac Server and Mac Clients
and exists since OSX Server 1 (Server 10.7, 10.8, 10.9) on ALL Macs i know.
The problem persist ever and occurs in the following settings:
    Mac Server (1.x, 2.x, 3.x) <> Mac Clients (10.7.x, 10.8.x, 10.9.x, 10.6 not tested)
The problem does NOT occur in the following settings:
    Mac Server <> Windows Clients
    Mac Server <> Linux Clients
Linux Server (my Webhoster) <> Mac Clients
Windows Server (my Webhoster) <> Mac Clients
So i think it is not a problem with server itselv or a single client only,
it is probaly a problem with the combination betwen mac servers and mac clients.
This is NOT a problem with MY MacServers/Clients only and not with only one Server.
It occurs in many different Places and many different Machines.
I have contact Apple Support more then tree times (always when i setup a new machine with server.app)
but she said they heard first time about that and she cannot reproduce that problem.
please, can somebody try it out?
    sorry for my bad englisch.
    best regards
    rené

    Supplement note:
The Problem occurs also between OSX Server <> OpenWRT (Linux)
    best regards

  • All messages in Mail.app suddenly disappeared

About one hour ago all of my msgs in all Mail folders, disappeared. Around 4000 messages total. They still show up on MobileMe. I have run Disk Utility to verify disk, and verify/repair permissions -- no problems related to Mail.app or folder locations were noted in the log.
Needless to say this is very disturbing. Anyone else having this problem? Know how to resolve it?
    Thanks, RJ

Hi R.J., and a warm welcome to the forums!
First I'd backup your whole Mail folder, by right clicking on it, then choose Archive.
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip... only the plist is separate.
Try dragging this file to the desktop in case we need to put it back later, then logout/in...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    Couple more things to try...
Quit Mail, then In your home folder, try moving these folders to the Desktop then reboot...
    /Library/Caches/Mail
    http://www.hawkwings.net/2006/02/08/rebuild-your-database-and-speed-up-mailapp/
    /Library/Mail/
It may just be Apple's Servers too.
