App for reading documents

Does anyone know of any apps that read documents?

Could you provide some more detail?  "Documents" can be in many different formats, to suggest an app it is helpful to know which one you are talking about.  Common formats are .pdf, .doc, .pages, .epub, .html etc.

  • App for reading discussions?

    Hi peepz,
Is there an app where I can read these discussion forums from apple in a nice layout?
    And with offline reading?
It would be it for me... I only have a wifi iPad....

Stay tuned. Apple is working on a new version of the Discussions
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2540747
and if they move to a newer version of Jive (the software that runs the Discussions) as seems likely, Jive already has an iPhone app for that newer version . Apple hasn't announced anything further since the announcement above, but it's apparently still in the works, so perhaps we'll hear more in the near future.
    Regards.

  • Is Pages a good 'reader' app for Word documents ?

In doing a few searches in this forum on the subject I find some conflicting reports ( what a surprise ) so I am compelled to ask :
How good a job does Pages do in reading Word documents particularly Word documments from PCs?
Most of our word proc needs are met very well by Appleworks but it does a very poor job of retaining the formating of tables & such. I don't need a copy of MS Word for everyone in the shop if I can just find a way to read Word docs reliably.
    Thanks for any opinions
    a whole buncha Macs

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I think Pages makes an excellent "reader" for Word. Even though I do have Office 2004, I rarely open it. Pages is my first choice to open a Word file, including all of those PC ones I get from work. You may get warnings that certain fonts are missing, but Pages will replace them with a close relative that you have. The only other warning I get is that page borders aren't supported. I've even checked the same Word documents in Word on both the Mac & PC & don't see what is missing.

  • Using the Kobo App for reading FXL on Android and Windows devices?

Hi, I am just finishing transferring my iPad App into a FXL ebook so I can get it out to a wider audience now that this technology is available, but I have so far only tested it on a Mac with both the iBooks and Kobo Apps. I also tested with Adobe Digital Editions, but this seems to have a bit of a bug when you use a button to click to another page the new page appears zoomed in and cropped off!
Has anyone tested FXL on the Kobo App on a Android and/or Windows device, tablet, smartphone, laptop etc and if so does it work the same as on the OS Mac version?
    Cheers
    Gia

  • IBooks alternative app for reading PDFs

Now that iOS 7 successfully killed reading PDFs on iPad, is the a real alternative to reading user-generated PDFs on the iPad?

I never had a problem reading PDFs on my iPad until I “upgraded” to iOS 7. Thank you for pointing me to Adobe PDF Reader. It works very well. The only thing is that PDFs have to be uploaded (or ADDED) to the app, through the APP tab in iTunes when your device is connected, and then Sync-ed. Whereas before I would just drag PDFs into the Books window of iTunes and they would automatically be read into iBooks.
This is only an issue for user generated PDFs (even though i'm using Preview of Adobe Acrobat Pro [9.5.5] in OS 10.8.4). Web or commercially downloadable PDFs continue to work in iBooks.

  • Any Apps for reading large (200Mb) PDF files?

    Hi
I have air charing and Stanza, but they seem to not like large PDF files.
Is thee any apps that can open these large PDFs? or is it a limitation of the actual iPhone? I have a 3GS 16Gb

There is an app called Goodreader that is specifically designed for PDFs.

I found the name "OverDrive Media Console" on a site about readers, it's not available at the Mac app store. Do you know anything about a newer version? I will be using my Mac Mini, not an actual reader or tablet.

  • I wanna ipad app to read using all types of document ?

Apps for reading PDF , doc, docx, ppt

Do not purchase Pages for your specific needs if you want one app to read all three of those file types. Pages will not read .ppt or PDF files. You can export files as PDF in Pages but you cannot import or read PDF files in Pages.
I do not have it myself, but GoodReader does come very highly recommended from most of the reviews that I have seen.

  • Can anyone recommend an app for downloading bank statements (.csv/.qif) directly on to my iPad

Can anyone recommend an app for downloading bank statements (.csv/.qif) directly on to my iPad that will allow me to analyse my money flow....no account management needed. I just need something v simple that can take my statement and produce graphs etc....thanks

1, Photos are stored within your computer's iTunes, you just use iTunes as a means for trasnferring them to the iPad. Connect your iPad to your computer and select it on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that tab you can then select which photo folders to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.
If you want more control over the photos that you copy to the iPad (e.g. the ability to delete them directly on the iPad, re-order them etc) then you could consider a third-party photo-management app instead of the built-in Photos app e.g. Photo Manager Pro
2, options include Apple's Pages app for Word documents and Numbers for Excel spreadsheets.  And from third-parties apps such as Documents To Go ('premium' version) and QuickOffice Pro HD.
3, You first need an app on the iPad that supports the type of file that you want to copy to it - the iPad doesn't have a file system like a 'normal' computer, everything has to be associated with an app. As to how you then get the file to your chosen app will depend upon what the app supports - different apps will have different ways of copying their content to/from a computer e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc.

  • Where can I find "old" apps for my Ipad 1st generation?

    Hi,
I am buying an new iPad Air and gave my first generation iPad to my wife. It's still in very good condition. She uses it for her emails, some internet activities and reading the newpaper. I swiped the iPad clean and installed it again under her apple account. Now there is the problem. The app for reading the newspaper isn't working anymore. It requires IOS 6 and the iPad is limited to 5.1.1. Further updates for the iPad are not possible.
Why is it that the "older" apps are removed from the store? Is there a possibility to find the old version of the apps somewhere?
    Thanks for your help.

Some developers allow older compatible versions of their apps to be downloaded from the store (the app store is the only place to get apps for iOS devices) - it's the developer's decision as to whether it's possible for their apps.
If the developer does allow it then try downloading the current version of their app on your computer's iTunes so that the app is in your purchase history, and then on the iPad go to the Purchased tab in the App Store app and you should be able to download an older compatible version of it.
If the app is a paid-for app then you should check with the developer first to see if the above will work, rather than buying the current version and then finding that the developer doesn't support the above.

  • How are Ipad users finding Ipad for reading books, novels, etc.

Hi - I have not purchased an iPad yet, but was wondering what user's experiences have been so far with reading books - i.e. spending a lot of time reading on the device. I know some say reading on a LED backlit screen is harsh on the eyes and causes strain over time. I have a MacBook Pro and have not had this problem reading on my notebook, but then again, I have never read an entire novel on my notebook.
    Just curious about user experiences.
    Thanks
    M.

3 ipad apps for reading and acquiring books-iBooks, kindle and kobo.
I am preferring iBooks and kobo because you do not leave the app to shop for books.
I have read 1 whole novel and assorted bits of others.
No eye strain. Those complaining they are to frail to hold 1.5 lbs for an extended time need to learn to cradle the ipad on their forearm and join a gym
if the content you are reading is any good-you quickly forget about the device. It gets out of the way of the content and you because of the simplicity of the interface.

  • Does anyone know of an e-reader app for the iphone that has text to speech capability? I have a Kindle 3G that can read whole pdf documents and books but I cannot figure out how to do it on my iphone 4.

Does anyone know of an e-reader app for the iphone that has text to speech capability? I have a Kindle 3G that can read whole pdf documents and books but I cannot figure out how to do it on my iphone 4.
All of the apps I have found on the App store either do not have the text to speech capability or if they have it they will only read a page at a time or simply read the text you paste into their window. I really do not understand what is so difficult about having this feature as Kindle provides it--though Amazon does not make the feature available on its iPhone 4 app.
    Please help.

thanks. yes i am aware of the VoiceOver feature but it is NOT the solution to my problem. as you said, it is a solution to a different set of issues. i want the text to speech ability because i there are books i need to read but do not have the time to sit down and read them and have become used to listening to them read to me either by a professional human reader or with the text to speech software on the Kindle.
I think Apple makes the best audio devices but i am really disappointed in this inexplainable shortcoming. if apple can give us siri they ought to be able to design a nice little button that i can push to turn on text to speech while i am in a document, book, magazine or webpage. clearly it is possible as apple has added the "reader" button in safari to have web pages dropped into the reader format.
thanks for your suggestion though, it is what everyone suggests but it does not address the issue.
