App I don't own appears in updates - won't go away

For a couple of weeks now, an app I don't own has shown up as an update in the App Store on my iPad (iPad 2, iOS 6.0.1). The app in question is MotionX GPS Drive. I have never purchased it, nor to my knowledge has anyone given it to me as a gift. If I try to update it, an error dialog appears with the message "You can not update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software." Also, when there are other updates I can't use the "Update All" button, as this error stops the others as well (I can, however update them with individual buttons). I've attached a screen shot for reference.
Rebooting the iPad has no effect. Signing out and in of the App Store has no effect. The update does not appear in iTunes on the computer I sync the iPad with. The app does not show up in "Purchased" either in iTunes on the computer or in the App Store on the iPad.
It's a minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless. I would like to avoid restoring from backup if possible. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks in advance. The screen shot is below:

This one is for an app that this users was seeing in their updates
https://discussions.apple.com/message/15269165#15269165
If I've read that correctly, the issue desribed in that thread appears to be about an app that merely changed it's name between updates (along with some concern about the particular developer). I've seen apps that change names numerous times and it isn't really a problem in and of itself. In this case, I can assure you that I've never owned any previous version of a MotionX product under any name.
[...] but one thing you can try doing is setting your date time to sometime in the future. Then go back into the app store and try to install the update, but you will get an error message because your date time is off. Next you will need to switch your date time back to automatic and then reboot your device. This should hopefully help, if not maybe we can get someone elses idea's on how to fix this.
Well, I tried that: I set the date to tomorrow, shut down app store completey, rebooted. It was still there, and it's still there now after restoring the automatic date and another restart.
I appreciate your effort though. Thanks.

  • App Store Tells Me to Update App I Don't Own

I have a *1* badge on my app store icon in the dock.  When I open the app store and check the update queue, it tells me I need to update a Twitter app I don't own and have never bought or downloaded.  It's not on my macbook anywhere.  When I click on the "update" tab, I get a message saying I have uploads available for another account and "Sign in to (email address I've never heard of) to update applications for that account."
Where did this come from and how can I make it go away?

There have been several threads here regarding this; take a look at these:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15284265#15284265
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4650
The consensus appears to be that someone is either running pirated software or it may or may not have anything to do with the trojan appearing in several places.
Contact the Apple store and, if you are running any pirated software, get rid of it.

  • Updates won't go away after updating

I have three updates on the App Store which have been downloaded and  I have those versions on my computer, but the updates won't go away from the App Store. Aperture 3.1.3 was updated the day it came out, but won't go away. Is there a setting somewhere I am missing? Thanks.

I have a similar problem if someone could please help.  In my AppStore I show Angry Birds needs an update.  I have never purchased Angry Birds nor do I have an illegal copy.  When I click on Update, it tries to have me login with the previous owner of my computer's Apple ID.  (I don't know him).  I have deleted the plist file for the Appstore from my User Preferences Library and that didn't do anything.
This happens whether I am logged in to the app store or not.
Anyone know a way to get rid of this user and this obviously erroneous Update?  I have searched all throughout my computer for any files hidden or not and can't find anything.  Thanks in advance.
Oh, and I tried unplugging my external hard drive as well and that didn't do anything.

  • Deleted app from itunes and iphone appearing in updates

I have tries to install app 'Prince of Persia: Warrior within' from itunes but cancelled it looking at the app size. But this app appears in update section when I click 'itunes download available' or if I click download all apps. Again, it is also happening for one more app which I installed and deleted ('Capcom Arcade') but again it appears in download section and starts to download automatically.
I am really frustrated with this activity as I have to always check that itunes is not automatically downloading these applications other wise it consumes by internet bandwidth (both apps are more than 500 MB of size).
Please provide a solution or help me with any tips on this.

To completely remove an app from iTunes & your phone, do this: Right-click the app in your iTunes library, select delete, when prompted, move all files to trash, empty your trash, connect your phone, if prompted that there is purchased content on your phone not in your iTunes library, decline to transfer, hit the sync button. The app and all of its data will be gone.

  • Updates available for apps I don't own

I'm receiving updates to applications I don't even own.  I searched my whole Mac for Angry Birds, and I obviously don't have it.  Why am I getting this and how do I get rid of it and the dumb badge icon?
    Thanks

    Why am I getting this
The truth? You have installed a pirated app on your Mac. An app that the pirates have cracked with the Mac App Store (MAS) receipt from the free app Angry Birds, that was downloaded with the stranger's account that is appearing in the MAS on your Mac.
how do I get rid of it and the dumb badge icon?
Get rid of the pirated apps that you have downloaded for free instead of buying them from the MAS. Perhaps it was promoted as a trial version.
Search the ASC for pirated app and you will see that I have alerted many folks to removing the pirated apps that was causing this on their Mac.

  • WIndows 8.1 app tiles don't work since window update on 12/14/14

My computer with windows 8.1 went through several updates on 12/14/14 and now none of my window tiles will open and several are now missing. I tried to install them again, and it says go back to the app store and install them again. It doesn't work. I
tried. Any ideas? I've restarted the computer several times, still not working. Several tiles are there, but are blank now. Any help would be great. Thanks

    Hi  Karens23,
Till now there is no report or same case about Windows 8.1 App issue caused by update 12/14/2014.
Since Windows 8 will need to be activated before the Store and apps will work. You will need to either be signed in to Windows 8 or the Store with a Microsoft account to be able to use an app that uses a Microsoft service. So please make sure your Windows
activation state is still activated and Sync your app license again by using following steps.
Step 1: On the Start screen, tap or click Store.
Step 2: Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and tap Settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Settings.)
Step 3: Tap or click App updates.
If you haven't signed in to the Windows Store, sign in using your Microsoft account.
Step 4: Tap or click Sync licenses.
If syncing the app license doesn't help, press
Win+R. Enter wsreset then click OK, In Windows 8.1 the store will simply open.
It resets the Windows Store without changing account settings or deleting installed apps
Then Check the following Registry Key by pressing
    Win+R enter “regedit” click “OK”
    ( HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppModel\Repository\Packages)
Right click Packages select “permissions” and make sure
SYSTEM has all the following Rights checked:
    Full control(allow)
    Read(allow)
    Special permission(allow)
If the issues persists, we recommended running Apps troubleshooter on your computer and see if it could find and fix this issue. You also could restore your system to a earlier point before 12/14/2014 or uninstall these
updates manually from control panel to see what happens. Then try update again.
    About App troubleshooter:
You can download Apps troubleshooter from:
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=268423
If you're still having trouble with the app after you running it, please upload the troubleshooting result and we will help you according to the results.

  • My iPad 3 jumps between screens/apps on it's own since newest update-HELP!

I recently updated my iPad 3 to the 8.1.2, and now, after about a half hour of being on, it jumps to various apps/screens by itself. I backed it up to my computer,  "refreshed back to factory settings" and restored from back-up. No luck.  Can anyone help???

Did see a macworld blurb that IOS8 speeded up some of the touch screen activity - so that it was possible to delete mail even if you didn't really want to.
That may be causing your problem - update would not cause a hardware problem - but and update can cause the hardware to respond differently.

  • App Store shows an app I don't have needs an update.

How do I clear this? It's rather annoying. It does not show up under purchases

It was Twitter in the Mac App Store, but I found the culprit from another web site. It was a copy of Transmit that was the problem. I trashed it and got a newer release and that solved the problem. It was a app store resource embedded in the app that was the problem. The Mac App Store scanned my Applications folder and found this app I didn't download. I have an idea that this copy of Transmit must have had a resource from this other user's downloaded Twitter which is what triggered this problem. I imagine the usual law abiding user would not have encountered this kind of problem. Still a little detective work allowed me to learn more about the inner workings of Mac App Store purchased applications and the Mac App Store itself.
We can call this issue closed, but still a learning experience for others.

  • Iphone app update won't go away, now app not working after sync

Using Iphone Appstore to update aurora feint, progress bar gets to 75% then pops up "Unable to Downlaod Application. Aurora Feint The Beginning will be available for download when you log in to the iTunes Stone on your computer.
So I log on to iTunes store download the update, plug in phone and sync goes ok. Unplug phone and the Aurora Feint updater icon is still left on phone, and the Aurora feint app is now gone. So I remove app from phone, resync, update icon still there, I reinstall app, resync, same issue update icon is there, but no app. I have rebooted phone, tried a restore, I can't get rid of Aurora Feint updater on iphone, and I cannot see aurora feint app on iphone.
Is there ANYWAY to manually remove the Aurora Feint Updater from iPhone?????? Everytime I run it I get the same error message.
    thx

Ok so if I hold down an icon (in order to move icons around) and press (x) on the installer it went away. Had to then resync and remove app from phone, and then reinstall app back to phone.
That sucked.... had a brain **** about the wiggly remove icon bit. But still I would have thought that the updater and the app would be recognized as two different objects by itunes.....

  • Adobe Virus Update won't go away

Don't think I ever opted to download the fake update request, but always had Adobe option for automatic updates turned off. With getting the jumping icon of the Update Virus and the offer to update popup window often opening, first ran the Terminal application steps outlined here...
    http://news.cnet.com/8301-27076_3-57410050-248/mac-flashback-malware-what-it-is- and-how-to-get-rid-of-it-faq/
...all 4 entries into terminal window showed no infection. So, with the popup still occuring, have gotten rid of ALL Adobe Flash and Reader programs (used Clean My Mac to make sure all related files were gone too).
NOW....each time I open a window that requires LOGIN PASSWORDS, the icon jumps in the dock but there is no longer a request to update (because it's smart enough to know that I no longer have any Adobe programs that require updating?).
Safe to say I've logged on here from my other Mac which does not have the fake update prompt.
Cannot drag the icon from the Dock to the trash and now too nervous to feel my new Mac Mini is secure. (OS 10.8.5) OS currently updated.
    HELP!!!!
    Thanks.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to gather information about the state of your computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it on this page. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them.
Here's a summary of what you need to do: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait about a minute. Then paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking  anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in your browser, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for your password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator rights.
The test may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. There wiil be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress until it's done. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.
When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.

  • CS3-Adobe Updater won't go away

Every time I turn on my computer, the Adobe Updater pops up and says:
The following updates are ready to be installed:
However, the box with the list of available updates is totally blank. This has been going on for a LONG time now and it is really bugging me. If I try to check for new updates, the blank box just pops open again. I don't think it actually checks anything so I have no idea if any updates actually exist. Someone please help before I snap and take a sledgehammer to my computer.
    TIA,
    Nancy

    (1) If you are on PC, go to Control Panel and look for Auto Updates or Windows Security Centre.
I have Auto Updates turned OFF but allow the computer to let me know when updates are available and I choose what I want to do.
I do it this way because I have found auto updates can play havoc with my computer sometimes if I haven't created Restore Points.
    (2) when the Adobe Updater window shows up (or you can open from Bridge: Help/Updates), click on Preferences and choose the option you prefer.
You can get it to ask you before downloading if you prefer.
Click ESC to escape the window without doing anything.

I've already updated Acrobat to 8.1.3 but Update keeps on popping up telling me to update to 8.1.3. How do I make it smarten up?

The updater for Acrobat 8 is pretty stupid. A look through this forum will indicate plenty of problems. Since that's the last update for Acrobat 8, open up the Updater (it's in Utilities > Adobe Utilities > Adobe Updater 5). Click on the preferences button, and turn off automatic updates.

mac app store tells me to log into <edited by host> account to update apps(that I don't own) but that is not my account and I never heard of this email. Is there a fix for this?

Everyone here - please take a look at this thread ( the last two posts by WZZZ and Thomas Reed):
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15205291#15205291
It appears that a) Hotmail has 19 domains functioning as distributors for malware and b) someone is distributing pirated software. Although it does not appear to be related to the recent trojan, my suggestion: stay away from both.
Edit: so why does everyone here appear to have pirated software (and doing it through it App Store)?????

You can probably change the ID in the "iTunes and App stores" settings on the iPad....click on the wrong account ID , select sign out, then log in with your own ID, I have not done this but I think it works.....
but I would be more inclined to to the factory reset and start afresh.

  • RAW update for users who don't own Aperture & iLife? (GH2)

As far as I can tell, Apple's new RAW file compatibility update requires the latest Aperture or iLife. I don't own either of these apps. The update will not install unless these apps are installed first.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1339
However, I want to access & open RAW still images from my new Panasonic DMC-GH2 camera in the Finder, QuickLook and Preview.
My question is: Does Apple have a version of the RAW compatibility update that be installed without Aperture or iLife?
Note: I am not describing the issue discussed in this Apple tech note. It addresses a different issue:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3614

    Thanks for that tip!
Just an FYI: As I posted earlier, I've owned a GH2 since mid-Dec. 2010, and haven't been able to display or edit its RAW files in the Finder, Preview or iPhoto 8.x, and as we all know, Apple's RAW compatibility update 3.5 -- which was supposed to support the GH2 -- didn't work.
Today I tried installing the new RAW compatibility update 3.6, but it wouldn't install because I don't have iPhoto v.9 or higher.
Thanks to your suggestion, I then installed Apple's free Aperture trial version. I don't actually want to use the app, I only installed it so I could get the RAW compat. updater 3.6 to install.
I then ran Software Update from the Apple menu, and it noticed I had the Aperture trial installed, so it asked to download & install the latest Aperture update and the latest RAW compat. update. I opted to download & install only the RAW compat. update 3.6.
Having done all that, my GH2 RAW files now seem to be correctly displayed in the Finder, Preview, & iPhoto v.8.x, and I can edit them in Preview & iPhoto.
Apple: While I'm glad this is finally working, it's been a real drag having to wait more than 2 months to get to this point. Cheers.
