App icons blank randomly

I have a 2nd Gen iPod Touch. I'm not sure just when it started - but just in the past day or two, I found that the icons (on the home page) for apps randomly disappear. I can still use the icon - the name is still there and the space, etc, but the graphic itself is gone. When I switch to another page of apps, and come back, it's often a different couple of icons which are "blank"...
Everything else apparently functions just fine.
Yes, I have the latest software - iOS 4.1 (which of course can't do everything because it's 2nd Gen...).
Any ideas of what is going on??

A restore and sync from iTunes "fixed" the issue for now.
Steps that I did when I first saw the issue.
- Tried to update apps from App Store. It failed with a dialog saying to check the date and time. My timezone and date and time were completely wrong.
- Corrected the timezone and time and date manually.
- Update from App store worked. Icons on apps that weren't updated and some that were had gray only icons.
- Tried power off. Same gray icons.
- Tried hard reset. Same gray icons.
- Did restore from iTunes and sync. Fixed icons.
I don't know if it was the App Store update that did it or the time change I did.

if you are using xcode 5, do this. Go to images.xcassets. Click on "app icon" and drag your image into the empty boxes. For example,

    I have the same problem.
I think there's a problem with the update server. Try again later.

  • Randomly Disappearing/Reappearing App Icons.

Since installing iOS7 on my iPhone 5, app icons randomly appear and disappear. Cannot find the Words with Friends logo under "Games" icon (sometimes there, mostly not there). Even my App Store and Settings icons disappear for a few hours, then reappear. What is the fix for disappearing app icons?

I am having the same problem as of today. This is happening to ONLY Aperture.... I have tried to restore my library using "commandoptionclick aperture", for the few seconds it is visible in my dock, but Aperture just opens right up.
    Things I have tried:
    Delete the two files:
    com.apple.dock.db
    com.apple.dock.plist
Open terminal and type (with caps and space):
    Killall Dock
    And
Moved: "MacintoshHD/System/Library/SyncServices/AutoRegistration/Clients/com.apple.doc k" to the trash and restarted before messing with anything. As soon as I restart and disconnect from the network I try to place Aperture back in the dock and it either disappears within seconds or disappears on close even after I select "Keep In Dock".
Someone help, I always am able to figure out this stuff on my own but NOTHING has worked and its only Aperture at this point which leads me to believe it is Aperture and nothing to do with my dock.

    - Have you tried resetting yuor iPod.  Nothing will be lost:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next would be to restore you iPod.

  • Blank App Icons on iPod after shutdown

    Hi everyone
A couple of days ago my iPod touch (3rd gen) ran out of battery and turned off. When I turned it back on a number of app icons appeared to be grey blank squares. I have tried turning it off and on, doing a hard restart (ie home and lock button held), I synchronised, I tried restoring from a back up where there wasnt an issue.
All of these attempts have left my problem unresolved. However, it seems deleting the app and redownloading it on my iPod brings the icon back, but there are a number of apps (30+) which this has happened to and I don't relish the idea of sitting down and doing this without knowing I have exhausted all options. Interestingly the apps in iTunes all have their icons and the app sync page also has the icon but the app in the iPod window in iTunes shows the same blank image which almost implies that there is a corruption in the backed up apps on my computer which has removed the iPod icon, but has left the iTunes icon.
Is anyone able to shed some light on to what has happened and what possible reason it could have happened for and maybe even a solution that can be found.
    Thanks,
    Ian

The same thing happened here I bought it using wifi and then once it had started downloading i had to leave and lost connection then when plugged it into my computer it started downloading again and finished but it wont sync and now it is a grey box that says waiting with an bar that is empty on my ipod... i tried deleting it but when the apps jiggle no cross comes up and i cant sync the app back in!

  • Apps icon shows 3 update, when I tap on update it is blank page.

Apps icon shows 3 update, when I tap on update it is blank page. Already reboot my iPad and still the same. Please help. I know I can always restore it, but I don't want to loose everything I worked on. Help please:(

    Hi, Sly101.
I would recommend closing any open applications in multitasking and restarting the device.  If unfamiliar with multitasking, I have included a screenshot on how to process an application close.  Test the results after processing these steps.
If the issue persists, see the section labeled Troubleshooting on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in the article below.

  • The date randomly changed and all app icons are white?!?

I updated my apps to their latest version and when the sync was done everything was fine, but somehow out of nowhere my date changed completely and all my app icons are white. Only apps that I did not update had their original icon. My ipod touch 2nd gen is not jailbroken. This happened once before, I updated my apps, and it went back to normal only for a few hours until it happpened again.
What is going on and how can I fix this?
    Screenshot:

    Hey!
Same thing happened to me! I took it into the apple store and they said its a glitch in the system and that it needed to be restored to original settings. You can do this from itunes, just don't restore from backup, set up as new.
He made a list of the apps I had to make sure he could download them again for me. It shouldnt be a problem with icloud but if you dont have it, i would recommend asking someone at the apple store to do it for you so you dont lose your apps.
Also, mine was great for a while after that but I have noticed that its back to changing the date. It only happens when I let my itouch's battery die completely so I try not to but it is still annoying when it does happen.
    hope this helps!

  • My app icons are blank

My app icons appear as white boxes with the app names underneath it.  What can I do to fix this?

Try a hard reset first.  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
If that doesn't work, unsync and resync the apps from your iPod via iTunes.

Refer to page 9 to confirm the correct buttons.  Make sure that you wait long enough (10-15 seconds).
There have been some problems accessing pages on the Apple web site.  If the hyperlink gives you a "We're sorry" message, try again.
If you confirm that you're using the correct buttons and it doesn;t work, you'll need to contact Apple.  Hopefully the unit is still in warranty.

  • Apps icon shows 9 updates but the update page is blank.

What can be done to restore the page where app updates are viewed?

A work around found by Fly150
Go into your puchased tab and download each update (you'll find the app icons with little update banners on them.)
Alternatively,  if you sync with a computer, you can use the iTunes on your computer to  download the updates then sync them onto your device.
Or you can be patient and wait for Apple to fix the issue

  • HT4623 Apps icon there is a blank white box.

When I go to my Apps icon there is a white box in the middle of the screen and will no do anything. Like it is stuck or something.

This is just a guess, but there may be a problem with an extension. Does it happen in [[safe mode]]? To access safe mode in Firefox 4 beta, click the Firefox button, select the Help sub-menu and choose "Restart with Add-ons Disabled".
If the glitch disappears in safe mode, follow the procedure in the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article to identify the culprit.

  • Mac mini (late 2012) HDMI video going blank randomly in Yosemite 10.10.1; sometimes comes back on with snowy screen

Wow, this reminds me of what happened with Mavericks 10.9.0 until 10.9.3 and later were released and fixed this problem.
My monitor is a Dell S2440L connected to my Mac mini late 2012 via an HDMI cable.
The monitor goes blank randomly and sometimes a snowy screen like you would see when watching a UHF
channel on an old CRT TV shows up when the video comes back on. This happens while in the OS.
I also have power management problems again with computer not sleeping properly and my Magic Mouse
being able to wake up the computer despite "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" being unchecked.
I also have Wake for network access, power nap and start up after power failure unchecked as well.
Computer sleep and display sleep are set to "never" as I always had it with Mavericks.
These problems occurred after shutting down my Mac and restarting it this morning.
I know using a VGA cable will fix it but I don't want to do that.
Sorry for sounding frustrated but I'm not alone. So many people are having the same issue
of HDMI video blanking out while in the OS.
I love the look of Yosemite but wish I was back with Mavericks 10.9.5 where everything worked
flawlessly and I really mean flawlessly. It was magical. Not a single problem.
I guess we have to wait for 10.10.2 or 10.10.3.
I don't want to go back to Mavericks but if my screen keeps blanking out then my computer is of
no use for work or multimedia.
    I'm sorry about the rant.
If anyone has figured out a workaround until Apple can issue another point release, please let me know.
I already tried resetting the SMC and NVRAM several times to no avail.
    Thanks in advance.
    I appreciate any help.
    Paul

  • The problem that app icons have a low resolution in Launchpad Screen

    Here is a screenshot.
In Macbook pro with retina display, app icon often have a low resolution in Launchpad screen.
If the app install again after restarting the mac, the app icon in launchpad screen has normal resolution.
Do anyone know how to resove this problem?

Had this problem from time to time, at random, with Lion. After Mountain Lion it is a lot worse... many icons, non only personalized but also system icons, look blurry and pixelated...
I have done EVERYTHING I read on the many threads about this issue here at apple, as well as on other sites, but nothing helped... (removed thumbnails.data, delete caches, deleter .DS_store files, finder preferences, etc. etc. etc.).
This happens on both my macs, an iMac 2011 and a MacBookPro 2010...
How is it possible to have this BUG since the last 3 version of the OS, with Apple not solving the problem but rather getting worse?
