App Limitations, Interactions, Buttons, etc.

Let me start by saying I am impressed with what the toolset has accomplished so far.
However, I am finding it hard to do what I see as fairly innocuous tasks.
I would like to have a button on the stage that when pressed shows a "lightbox" gallery with a close button.
When the close button is pressed the lightbox is removed from view and the original button is again visible.
I want to use this lightbox to display video or a gallery or scrollable text.
I am trying to make the jump from actual Flash Development to InDesign vernacular. I am wanting to understand the Multi-State Objects and Button usage.
If you can, draw lines of similarity to Flash terms.
Are Multi-State Objects similar to Movie Clips in Flash?
Can buttons be used as hotspots? (Similar to how you could use an empty button in Flash.)
Can I nest buttons inside of MSOs?
Can I make a page in an article NOT visible in the table of contents view?
I will chalk up the lack of detailed information/documentation to be because of the recent enhancements and updates, yes?

So, I would create an MSO with 2 states. One state shows the image with the hotspot covering the appropriate area. Then State two would be the text showing with the close button active. The first state would be the default and when you click on the hotspot it goes to State 2. Then on state 2, the button (that looks like a close button) would be coded with a go to State 1. Correct?
*Can you use an intermediate window to play video?*
you can use inline (not a fullscreen video), *intermediate window to show title and descriptive copy* may be a part of your own design
So this would be another MSO, with two states. The first state is normal with a hotspot to jump to state 2 that would show the title and descriptive copy. Can I put the video in the second state? or do i just make it look like a video player, but add a hotspot on top of it to trigger the video.

editor, whether
it be Microsoft Paint, Photoshop Elements, Fireworks,
Photoshop, Xara, etc.
Make the button graphics in your graphics editor, and place
them on the page
in DW.

Interactive buttons working on Adobe Viewer but no on the final App

Hi everyone,
I got a lot of troubles with interactive buttons:
I made buttons with link with "pageTo" and with "getURL" (and the syntax "navto://Article#2").
What I already know:
• when using the "navto" syntax, the first page is the 0 (and not the 1 page);
• I double checked the Article's spelling and it's correct.
the problem is that when I test the app with the Adobe Viewer on my iPad those links work well, but when I create the App and I test the .ipa file on my iPad those links don't work anymore.
I'm working on Mac.
anybody has any idea?

I saw that one link is actually working and it refers "outside" to another article in the folio, while all the links that refer within the same article are not working.
can you please confirm this or is this just a unpredictable behavior?
I'm asking this because I have to choose a workaround to fix this.
the options are:
1.multistate objects to simulate the new pages;
2.move all the pages in new articles so I can keep just links that refer to "outside";
(I prefer the first solution because in this scenario I can't hide the pages frow the folio flow).

Interactive Buttons in PDF not working when in iPhone

Hello!
I used CS3 to turn an InDesign document into an interactive PDF with buttons. It works just fine in a computer, but when I tried to view it in an iPhone, all interactive buttons are gone. Does anyone know why? Thanks! Here's the link for the PDF so you can try to view it on your own iPhones:

Unfortunately there are no pdf reader which support this on neither the iPhone or the iPad.
You have to create an App or rely on the limited functionality of the the pdf readers.
I would like to see a pdf reader for the iPone, iPad ios supporting InDesign buttons and basis interactivity.

Have you tried disconnecting and re-connecting to your network ?. And when you say rebooted do you mean a reset ? If not then try that : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
You could also try closing those apps completely. From the home screen (i.e. not with any of those apps 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the iTunes, App Store and iBooks apps to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.

Do a backup before doing anything.
If you want to make a clean install of Mountain Lion, boot into the Recovery Volume (command - R) on a restart, use Disk Utility to Verify/Repair the disk and run Repair Permissions. Then erase the hard drive using Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format using the Options button. Reinstall Yosemite. Restart normally and test. Use Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant to import what you want.

Interactive button in PDF file doesn't work with Adobe Reader for Mac nor Acrobat Pro

Hello!
I've to use a interactive form which has an interactive button that is supposed to send that form by email. If I open that PDF with my iPhone or iPad with the PDF Expert App, it works perfectly, but for any strange reason, when I try to open that same PDF in my Mac with Adobe Reader or Acrobat pro, that button doesn't do anything.
Can this be a configuration error?

The problem is deeper than that. It's not reader. Now the same form I was creating in LifeCycle Designer ES2 yesterday, with the actions working perfectly, no longer work. None of the actions are working.
Could it be realted to me trying to set the default version compatibility to Adobe 7. It gave me warnings, so I set it back to 9.
Any help would be appreciated.

Next time an app update gets stuck try a reset. Press and hold both the home and power buttons for10-15 seconds till the Apple logo appears. Then release both buttons. Wait till your iPad starts on it's own. Try now. Also YouTube is still available. If you can't find it the the app store go to the bottom of the app store page and tap purchased. All your deleted apps will be listed and you can reinstall YouTube from there.

After upgrading to 10.9.5, the App Store "Update" button stopped working.

After upgrading from 10.9.4 to 10.9.5 tonight, the App Store "Update" button seems to have stopped working. The App Store says I have one update available (Xcode version 6.0.1), but when I click "Update," the button turns white for a few seconds, and then it turns back to gray without doing anything. I've tried the same steps after restarting my computer twice.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

Interactive buttons in InDesign - for an iPad

Hello!
For a University project, I have an assignment of pairing up with someone and creating a childrens e-book. Thing is, we've not had that long on it due to other deadlines, and the deadline for this project is this coming Friday (22nd).
We've created the layout of the e-book but the thing is, the buttons work on the Preview window box in InDesign, but it doesn't when using the Adobe Content Viewer app on an iPad - the assignment is creating the document for an iPad.
It's apparently because the buttons use Flash, and iPads dont support that.
We got given some artwork, and want to create a button/interactivity where the reader (a 3-6 year old?) needs to find a certain animal on the page, and then once they do, they need to tap it, in order for a fact to appear about it.
E.g...
This is one of the pages/screens. It tells the reader to find the seagull. Easy, I know, but when pressing onto the seagull, we want it to come up with the fact. The red box around the seagull is a button, and the box towards the top right of the seagull is the fact box which is activated after selecting the seagull.
It works fine in the InDesign preview tab... This was after clicking on the seagull, which resulted in the box appearing...
I've watched a video on the Adobe website about some converter from FLASH to HTML5 programme called Wallaby Technology Preview, but it didn't work with that. The person had a moving animation though I suppose, and not buttons.
Something like a pop-up message would work in iBook Author but it needs to be created using InDesign. (This version i'm using is 5.5)

The popup panel (text description) would be your multiple state object. It can be an ordinary element, it does not need to be turned into an interactive object. Select the popup frame, and in the Object State panel flyout, select "New State". This will create an Object (you can name this) with two states. Select State 1 and colorize the frame and text to none (for the invisible state). Leave State 2 as is (for the visible state). Make the seagull art an interactive button. Then select your event: "On Click" and Action "Go to State" and Object "Popup Panel" and State "State 2"

Interactive buttons not working on interactive pdf when the Indesign links are set correctly

Hi all,
I have one Indesign CS6 manual containing 17 files, 126 pages. This has been set to a book file.
This has been translated into 14 languages and now we are having problems creating the interactive pdfs.
After fixing the broken interactive buttons within the Indd files, we are finding that when we create the interactive pdfs, not all interactive button links work. When we recreate the same langauge interactive pdf we are finding that the buttons that were not working the 1st time, are now working, and some buttons that were working, are now not working.
Is there a bug somewhere.
Any idea why the interactive buttons work one minute and then not the next, and vice versa.
Any idea how we can fix.
I’m using Indesign CS6 and Acrobat 9 Pro.

Indesign CS6 - Interactive Buttons - Destination links changing when opened on another computer

Hi,
I have encountered a bit of a problem with Indesign CS6.
I have a customer who has created an multi-chapter Indesign file which has interactive buttons within the each chapter in the book. These buttons are linking to each chapter. E.G., Buttons on the first page in chapter one, might link to the first page of Chapter three. This has been done by setting a destination, to the file and specifying the page number within the Interactive elements dialogue box. The client has created an interactive PDF out of this.
When I have opened the file on my side, all of the interactive destination elements have reverted to Page 1 of Chapter 1 in every single chapter (this is the first file in the book). Obviously, this means me relinking all of the locations again (there are over 2000 in the file that would need to be fixed).
Now, I am opening the file on a Windows PC in Windows 7 using CS6. However, the client has created the files on a Mac. Which could potentially be an issue maybe (I am testing this).
However, has anyone experienced this before, and is there a workaround?

App store Next button not working sometimes when searching for apps

In the app store (using iPad with iOS 4.3.1), when i search for certain words and click on "See All", the next button does not always work. It is enabled (white) and there are more apps to be seen, but tapping either the one top or bottom simply does nothing. Other times, it works fine. I just started seeing this problem after applying the iOS 4.3.1 updates.

Not sure about the layout on PC but try this.
(1) Starting at home screen (click the house icon top, middle). (2) Top right, click on Library button. (3) Next screen, top left, click the icon that says Music. It will pull up a menu where you can select Apps (also movies, tv, etc).
At the bottom right you should see your update button for your apps and telling you the count of those.

ITunes app store update button not working

I'm using iTunes 11 on a windows 7 pc, and the problem is that the for apps with update available, the app page in the store is shown to be "downloaded" and not clickable, whereas in iTunes 10 the button says "update". I have a quite large app library with 1000+ apps and the checking for updates button does not always give all the available updates. And it's not latency issues because apps that have updates months before still show up in the store page as downloaded. Anyone else have this issue/bug? I really rely on the update button on the iTunes store page a lot, so any help wound be appreciated. Thanks!
