App modifies loginwindow.plist everytime I launch it.

WLan.app modifies loginwindow.plist file in order to launch itself on every login.
Also if I modify the loginwindows.plist file, deleting the voice related to WLan.app, when I launch this application the value is written again.
Does it depend on the application code, or there's a way to deny this change modyifing any system value?
Thank You, ask me if You need more infos about.

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup of the library) and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
     User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you have problems locating the cache file don't worry about it.  The key file to delete and rebuild is the preference file.  Once you relaunch iPhoto reset the iPhoto prefs to what you want.

  • IPhoto gets beachball for 20 seconds everytime I launch it :/ PLEASE HELP!

I just purchased a Electra 3G SSD from OWC and installed it into my 2009 Macbook Pro 2.26Ghz 4GB of ram. However, everytime I launch iPhoto it gets the beachball "stall" icon for about 20 full seconds. Does anyone know what the deal is. I am using a fresh Install of Mountain Lion (about a week in use) and iPhoto 09 (with all the latest firmware updates from Apple). It is very frustrating and I am hoping someone on here who is very experienced has a solution.
I did install Snow Leopard off of a CD and then upgraded it with Mountian Lion from the app store if that makes a difference.
Thanks so much to anyone who helps,
I will be eagarly waiting for a response.

  • Loginwindow.plist gets corrupted after a restart

    Hello,
I have an installer package that, aside from installing components, modifies the loginwindow.plist such that it adds entries for my components. The installer works fine on Tiger and Panther OSes btw.
However, on Leopard, the loginwindow.plist file gets corrupted after a restart. As a result, the components which I have added in the plist do not run automatically - rendering them useless to the user unless it is manually launched/run.
Deleting the file and installing my own loginwindow.plist file solves the problem but this isn't an ideal solution.
Is the loginwindow issue a known OS issue? Has there been a change with the loginwindow.plist format for Leopard such that modifications need to follow a certain text encoding? Can anyone provide solutions as to how this issue can be avoided?

The .plist is in your user library.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist.
After you remove it, you need to restart.

  • /Library/Preferences/loginwindow.plist being ignored by system

Here's one that I've not seen anyone else report.
I've been creating a system image of OS 10.4.5 and every time I lay the image down and log in using any user account, the items entered into the global loginwindow.plist file are being ignored. To put it in basic terms, it behaves as if the system doesn't even know that it is there. None of my global login items are being launched.
I have verified that the plist file is in the correct format, I've checked permissions, and I've even compared it to the same file in my previous system image. The previous system image never gave me this problem. I created both images from scratch using the exact same procedure, which I have documented step by step. There are only two exceptions. The second image (the one that doesn't work) was started by using the 10.4.3 install DVD, whereas the first image I used the 10.4 install DVD. Other than that, the first image was built after having been upgraded to 10.4.3 using Software Update, the second image 10.4.5 using the same method.
Has anyone seen this before? What else can I try, here? I feel that I have exhausted all options aside from starting over from scratch and using the 10.4 install DVD instead, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oops, it was permissions after all. I was accidently setting the file to 600 after laying down the image. How I could have missed that?? Oh well.

Are you listing the billing address for the card correctly? The address in the iTunes/MAS account must match the address on your bill exactly.

Using 2006 iMac running Mac OS 10.6.8.
My iTunes App (11.3.1) will not launch.
Upgraded to iTunes (11.4) but problem persists.
    Need help.

I have no answers for ya, but I do have the same problem, so we are not alone in this.
My iTunes stopped working after I did a couple of software updates that got my iTunes up to v. 11.4. Since that update, I can't get iTunes to open at all, neither from my dock nor from the Applications menu.
I'm wondering: Perhaps these latest iTunes updates are simply too advanced for my 10.6.8 operating system? If that's the case, how can I backtrack to an earlier version of iTunes that is compatible with my computer OS?
    Any thoughts?

  • 802.1x authentication at login not working (com.apple.loginwindow.plist)

We have a number of OSX Macs (10.4.11) in an 802.1x test environment.
All the Macs have been bound directly to a Windows 2003 Active Directory using the Directory Access Utility.
All the clients have been imaged from the same original OSX 10.4.3 image and upgraded to 10.4.11.
We would like the clients to Wirelessly 802.1x authenticate at user login.
Apple provide a useful How-to doc for this purpose:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303471
Great! Well, yes for some systems but not for others. We have two clients running that will not take the above procedure from Apple.
On the working clients the following file has been modified by the procedure above:
    \library\Prefrences\com.apple.loginwindow.plist
On the non-working clients this file does not change.
I assume this may be a permissions issue but just can't figure it out. Any help, advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

I still don't know why Internet Connection is not updating com.apple.loginwindow. However, these articles have been helpful:

on time machine preferences, click on Options
click plus sign, on the new window, click macintosh HD
do a Control + A then deselect users then click okay
go to options again, plus sign, go to users, control +A then deselect your user account
go to options again, plus sign, go to your user account, control + A, deselect desktop

Seriously, does it really need to be a new version EVERYTIME I launch Firefox? Is it that buggy? It's super annoying.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== Asks me to update FIrefox.

Some different bugs do get fixed with every update, but most of the time you see an update it's because a security exploit was found.
And rather than wait a month or 2 months like Microsoft does, the Firefox team measures how bad the security exploit is and then based on that decides whether to release an immediate update or wait til the next scheduled release of Firefox, which is usually a month or more away.
This way you're protected from whatever the security problem was. And they usually group a couple of security fixes together before giving the new update. So you just don't get 1 fix per version.
So it's not like: Oops, found a security bug! Let's give everyone a new version now! Uh-oh found another one. Let's give a new version again right now!
Yes, it is a bit annoying to be asked to update so often but you can turn off updates if it really bothers you that much.
Although of course, there's like hundreds of Mozilla people that would advise against doing that. You know, security risks, and all that stuff. ;)

    Hello Bo.
It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.

  • Windows Vista configures ITunes everytime I launch it.... Help :-)

    So.....
Everytime I launch ITunes, Windows Vista configues it and reinstalls files....
I have checked the support pages and deleted a file as mentioned there, but it didn´t help the problem.
What can i do to sort this issue? Everytime I want to launch ITunes I need to spend 10 minutes waiting for Vista to configure and install.
    Please help

The "Program Files (x86)" is only installed for 64-bit systems.
If you have a 32-bit system, open "My Computer" and check the folders on your "C" drive for "Program Files" (No "(x86)" in the file name.)
Once you find the iTunes application file, right-click on it and select the "Send To" option. From the drop-down menu, choose "Desktop" to create a shortcut on your desk top. (Make sure that you have deleted any old shortcuts before doing this.)
This will get iTunes to launch quickly, but there are still functions that do not work properly - file associations seems to be one.
