Apps are locked to the Apple ID that was used to download them. You will have to sign in as your brother in order to update it.

My ipod touch is telling me that the skype and twitter apps need updating. When I try to run them they fail. I have tried deleting the apps via itunes but it doesn't work and I have tried updating the apps via itunes and it says they are updated.

Many people are having this problem for the last couple of days. This is a problem that Apple has to fix. If you look around the forum, you will see many, many discusssions about this and they have been going on for a few days.
According to Fly150 in another discussion, this is a workaround - for the time being.
If you want to update the Apps while waiting for Apple to fix Updates:
1. Go to App Store
2. Select Purchased
3. Select All
4. Scroll down to find the Apps showing update
5. Select update on the Apps
This should update the Apps and get rid of the update count in App Store.

Mystery App Needs Updating??

I have an app in iTunes that needs updating and I have no idea which app it is? I always have 1 app showing up in the sidebar of iTunes that says it needs updating, how can I figure out which app it is? Can I reset the prefs or something? What to do???

Believe me I've tried, I don't know what app needs updating. I've selected update all apps and individually selected all the apps and I still have a mystery app that won't update. That's what I can't figure out?

ITunes account says apps need update, clicking on "Update" gives screen that says no updates available!

Which account are you logged in with on the iPad ? If the apps that need updating are linked to your other account, then you need to log out of your current account and log in with the other one (you can change account either via Settings > Store and touching your account id on the right-hand side and logging out, or via the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app).

The screen isn't working on my ipad2. It's fully charged and is keeping time and showing which apps need updates, but I can't do anything because the touch screen isn't functioning.

I have 6 updates on my Iphone but Itunes says all is updated even while telling me on the app tab that 14 apps needs updates? what's wrong!

So yeah here it is:
Iphone - 6 apps need to be updated
Itune stores (pc) - 14 updates availables
But when I click for the 14 updates it says no updates are available.
I dont want to use my photo data to update and 2 of them need are too big and need to be updated by Itunes.
Any solutions?

Make sure you are connected to the Internet, also the 6 updates on the iPhone can be updated directly to the iPhone, for large files you will need to be connect to a wi-fi connection.

3 apps need update but dont show up

For several days now my iPad and my wife's iPad (ipad 3 w/retina) have had app updates but when we go to view the apps that need the update nothing shows up. The list grew from 1, to 2, to 3 as of today but still we cant see which apps need the update. The app store opens and loads fine, just not the updates.
I've read it could be a server issue but its been days, could that still be the case?

iOS 4.2.1 is the final version of iOS that an iPhone 3G will run, so you will not be able to use any apps that require iOS 4.3 or later. There is no way to get any later version of iOS onto your iPhone without serious hacking, something we cannot discuss here.
You do not get the option to update iOS directly from an iPhone until you have iOS 5 or later.

IPhone and iTunes Errorneously says apps need update

I read about this a few months ago somewhere on the web, now I too have this problem. I have apps from last year that say they need to be updated yet when i look at the details, the app has the same release date as the original one.
What gives? I dont want to update unless I absolutely have to. I remember that before whenever I updated an app, it's settings and contents would be deleted. I dont want that to happen again.

Same with me and I have tried everything Apple recommends including reinstalling the iPhone from scratch ...

If you have regularly sync'd your purchased content with iTunes on your computer, and you have NOT downloaded updates in iTunes, then you may have the older version available in iTunes to install.
Delete the app from your iPad, connect to iTunes and choose the older version from your list of apps to install and then let it sync.
However, unless you have kept a copy of the older version like that, then you are stuck now. The App developer has likely pulled the older version from the store, so only the newer version is available in the App Store.

Cant Download Software Updates, Random app needs update

I have two problems with the Mac App Store. The first one is that there is an app called "CodeBox" that i have never downloaded or used that is available for an update on an account that I've never seen. The second is that I havnt been able to install software updates since I downloaded Mountain Lion. The notification for a software update pops up but the only update I can see is the CodeBox app.

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy/paste:   ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the trash.
Same:   ~/Library/Preferences/
Click Go the move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
Same:   ~/Libray/Cookies
Click Go then move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Cookies folder to to the Trash.
Try the App Store.. see if that made a difference..

Unknown app needs update, but under which account?

I've got all the family's iTunes media on one iMac (mine). That's five accounts. Every so often, I cycle through the accounts and update everyone's apps. But for some time now, after completing the cycle, one app remains un-updated, as indicated by the number "1" in the iTunes sidebar. I have no idea wihch account this app belongs to -- I've gone through every account that I know of -- and no idea which app it is.
So here's the question...Is there any way to determine in iTunes the name of this app and which account it belongs to?
Sure would be nice if I could right-click that numeral and have it show me -- across all accounts -- the names of the apps that had updates...

Content bought using one Apple ID cannot be merged or transferred to another Apple ID.
Apps are forever tied to the Apple ID used to obtain them.
Another way is to delete them and download using your own Apple ID.
