App on one partition, alias on another

I have finally upgraded to Snow Leopard and CS5.5. Because I freelance, I need to keep my CS3 apps in case I have a client who uses InDesign CS3. I ran across the CS5.5 licensing issue when installing, but downloaded the License Recovery dmg from Adobe, so now all CS3 and CS5.5 apps launch in Snow Leopard.
I have an old but reliable inkjet printer and a few apps that are not compatible with Snow Leopard, so I want the option of booting into Tiger. Since my Mac was already divided into 2 partitions, I set it up like this:
Large partition has Snow Leopard and all the Adobe apps
Small partition has Tiger and no Adobe apps
I would like to put aliases to the CS3 apps on the small (Tiger) partition, so if I am booted into Tiger and need to access a CS3 file, I can. Since I have a single-user license for the Adobe apps, I do not think I can install CS3 on both partitions -- even though it is one Mac, it would be installing on 2 drives.
I made an alias of Photoshop and copied it to the Tiger partition, but it doesn't work -- I get the license issue message.
Has anyone done this? Or is it not possible? Is there another way to accomplish what I am trying to do -- a disk image, maybe?

First, I think this is a question for Adobe tech support. They know best how their licensing verification system (an evil piece of software called FlexNet Publisher) works.
Second, AFAIK, a single user licence allows you to install the software on only one machine at a time -- it does not prevent you from installing it on more than one partition on the same machine.
Third, an alias is a pointer to the original file (aka target). As long as both alias and target are on the same machine, you cannot break any license, and it certainly does not qualify as installing the software twice.
Fourth, a small point. Maybe I misunderstand your setup, but it sounds as if you installed CS3 and CS4 under SL (but not under Tiger) and then you boot under Tiger. If that is correct, then there's a simple explanation -- when you use the alias to launch Photoshop, the app looks in the active OS (Tiger) for the licensing info (or more likely for the FNP service) -- and it won't find it. That would explain the "license issue message".

  • How can I transfer apps from one iTunes library to another?

How can I transfer apps from one iTunes library to another? My daughter has an iTouch, and I was managing it through my library. I have created an iTunes account for her, with a new iTouch, and would like to move the apps over. I tried to sync the old iTouch to the new library and it said it was already set up to sync with a different library. What is the best way to do this?

You can transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
To make the new computer the syncing computer you have to:
    - Transfer iTunes purchases lIke I described above
    - Make a backup of the iPod on that computer by connecting the iPod and then right-clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecting Back Up.
    - Restore the iPOd from that backup
She will have to continue to use your iTunes ID to update the apps prchased with your account. To use her account she will have to log into the computer with her account (iTunes>Store) and change the sign in on the iPod by going to Settings>Store.

No. Apps are associated with Apple ID with which they were purchased.

Apps purchased by an Apple ID are forever associated with that ID.    Purchases can't be transfers to another Apple ID.

I have purchased a few apps on an iTunes account, have set up a new account and bought apps on that. Can i transfer apps from one iTunes to another?

The Solution is that you will need to keep account A active for as long as you have those Apps...
Or you can Get Them Again using account B... But if they are Purchased Apps you will have to pay again...
Free Apps are of course Free...

  • Syncing apps from one itunes account to another.

Hey guys, first forum post so go easy on me pls
The other day I decided to download some apps from my mums itunes account since I didnt have any money to pay for them myself. When it came to syncing/copying the apps from her account, it decided to delete most, if not all the apps from my own account.
I had a read around and have "authorised" both my laptop and her macbook, and the iphone registers this. However, I tried to copy some apps from my account this morning and it seems it wouldnt have been possible without deleting the ones I had copied from her account.
Is there any easy way around this syncing problem? Or will I just have to keep buying things from my own itunes accout?
    Any feedback is appreciated

Not trying to doubt you or anything but you probably did something else with the iPod such as use 2 accounts simultaneously in which case you would have to log out and in each time you needed to update

  • Transferring apps from one itunes account to another

I bought the original IPad from a family member, so it was set up with there ITunes account and all of the apps that are on it. I would like to transfer everything that is currently on the IPad over to my computer with my ITunes account, without having to reset the IPad and purchase all of the apps all over again. I need to manage my IPad through my computer and ITunes account, not the one it was originally set up under.
I have managed to do this with an IPod, so I can imagine it would be possible with an IPad.

  • In which case the data should go one partition go to another?

    Hi All,
My db is 11.2, Exadata machine.
I encountered the same problem here. When I used  'where column=1', I got the result as 1 and 2
That is I find some data should belong to one subpartition appear in another subpartition.
    Partition and subpartitions looks like:
    PARTITION BY RANGE ("SRCE_SYS_ID")
      SUBPARTITION BY LIST ("SALES_DATE")
(PARTITION "3200_CD"  VALUES LESS THAN (3201)
    PCTFREE 10 PCTUSED 40 INITRANS 1 MAXTRANS 255
      STORAGE(
      BUFFER_POOL DEFAULT FLASH_CACHE DEFAULT CELL_FLASH_CACHE DEFAULT)
      TABLESPACE "POS01A" COMPRESS FOR OLTP
      SUBPARTITION "1359_CD_28MAR2012"  VALUES (TO_DATE(' 2012-03-28 00:00:00', 'SYYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS', 'NLS_CALENDAR=GREGORIAN'))
TABLESPACE "POS01A" COMPRESS FOR OLTP ,
      SUBPARTITION "1359_CD_29MAR2012"  VALUES (TO_DATE(' 2012-03-29 00:00:00', 'SYYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS', 'NLS_CALENDAR=GREGORIAN'))
TABLESPACE "POS01A" COMPRESS FOR OLTP ,
      SUBPARTITION "1359_CD_30MAR2012"  VALUES (TO_DATE(' 2012-03-30 00:00:00', 'SYYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS', 'NLS_CALENDAR=GREGORIAN'))
    )If I issue
    SELECT count(*)
    FROM ADWG_GPOS.gpos_cd_fads
    WHERE gpos_cd_fads.srce_sys_id = 3200
    AND to_char(sales_date,'dd/mm/yyyy')='28/03/2012'The result is 10000.
    If I issue
    SELECT count(*)
    FROM ADWG_GPOS.gpos_cd_fads
    WHERE gpos_cd_fads.srce_sys_id = 3200
    AND sales_date = to_date('28/03/2012','dd/mm/yyyy')It returns 5000.(correct result)
After investigating, I find some data with sales_date 28/03/2012 go to partition 1359_CD_30MAR2012.
Can someone help me understand why this happend?
    Best regards,
    Leon

Please fix the errors in your posted code and question.
    1. You only show SELECT queries so no data with sales_date 28/03/2012 can go anywhere. Clarify what your statement about data going somewhere means.
    2. You only show one partition range for SRCE_SYS_ID < 1314 so there is no partition shown for ID values of 3200 meaning if you have such a partition you did not show it - meaning you did not post the DDL for the table you are actually using. If you had a query for values of 3200 would not return any rows since there is no partition the data could be in.
    3. AND to_char(sales_date,'dd/mm/yyyy')='28/03/2012' - this is basically equivalent to a functional index on 'sales_date' so partition pruning will not happen. For Oracle to prune partitions it needs to know AT PARSE TIME that any partition it 'prunes' cannot possibly contain needed data. It determines which partitions need to be accessed when it parses the query and evaluates it - not when it executes. When you use a function like in this example it cannot determine with certainty which partitions are not needed so will do a full partition scan.

  • Manage apps on one computer, music on another?

I have two computers and one iPhone. Ideally, I would like to manage iPhone apps on one computer and the music and video on the other computer. I would like to do this because all my music and video is on one computer, but, I suspect, there are problems with the OS and I have had some problems with my iPhone when I managed the apps from that machine.
Is there any way of doing this?

If you have an external hard drive with enough storage capacity to store all iTunes content except for apps, you need to make use of it for this. Or purchase an external drive that does have enough storage capacity and then some for your entire iTunes library.
Apps will continue to be stored in the Mobile Applications folder in the iTunes folder located in the Music folder with the computer used for syncing and with the external drive attached storing all other iTunes content - music, movies, TV shows, and podcasts.

  • How do I switch Apps from one Apple iD to another?

I have been having some difficulties with my new Mac Mini.  I have had the computer since Oct. 2011, but I just recently got it hooked up to the internet.  I have been trying to update some of my other Apple devices and I have encountered some difficulties doing so.  Customer service has been working with me to resolve that problem, but I think they might have helped to create another.  I have an Apple iD as does my wife, but my iD is the primary one one the Mac Mini.  Her phone was the device that caused all of the original problems not wanting to update.  Tech support has me to reinstall the operating system and when it did it took her Apple iD as the primary iD.  I need to know how to switch or reset the computer, because now the installed apps GarageBand, iMovie, and iPhoto are listed under her iD and they won't allow me to update them unless I use her iD.  Any suggestions as to how to switch this over would be greatly appreciated?

That would be really tough & may not even work, I'm trying to figure out how this happened in the 1st place.
I take it these Apps were installed in Your Account only?
Which Apps, or just one in particular are they/it? Do a Get Info on one and see what it says for Rights & Privileges?

  • Transfer apps from one Apple ID to another

I received an iPad (3rd Gen) for my 13th Birthday. Eager to get started, I used my mother's Apple ID as I thought I was still too young (13 is the youngest you can be to have an Apple ID). I have now created an Apple ID of my own and want to know if I can transfer the Apps bought on it to my new ID. I know that I can transfer songs by putting them on a disc, but am unsure if I can transfer the apps I've bought.

It is easy. Sign it with your Mom account, then go to sign again you find the option view account. Click in and edit your Mom email to your personal email, then Save. Automatically it will create another Apple ID as your email ID, leaving your Mom ID as is. Now sign in with your account and you will find your downloads their.
Actually I beleive you are mistaken. that process will only change the existing AppleID, not create a new one.

  • Can you copy music and apps from one iTunes account to another?

My nephew got an iPod touch for Christmas and for some reason my husband decided to add it as a new device to my iTunes account and purchased games and music and put these onto the iPod.  So now he has access to my password, etc.
What I really want to do is set up a new iTunes account for my nephew, but will I be able to transfer his games and music purchased under my account onto his new account or will we lose them all?

This Apple article will walk you through changing the Apple ID -> iOS: Changing the signed-in iTunes Store account
And this one will walk you through creating a new account -> iTunes: How to set up an iTunes Store account (Apple ID)
You won't be able to transfer the apps to the new account, you'll have to purchase them again with the new account.
