App performance influenced by hardware power?

Is flash app performance in anyway influenced by the hardware of the device?the ipad3 is coming out in few days and i was wondering if apps that used to run bad on ipad2/iphone4 are going to run good on the new ipad.Iphone 4S was at least twice as fast as iphone 4 did this mean twice the perfomance?15 fps becomes 30?this is the standard rule of PC'S,if u double the power of your harwarde your fps doubles also,as simple as that.Is it like this in the mobile world also?If so this means in 2,3 years we should be able to run any flash app flawlessly on any device.

yup on 7 march they will release ipad 3. it will suport 2000xresolution meaning more pixels.More pixels = less performance, even if it will have more power it will need it to render this high resolution.Curious if old apps will run better.

  • X230 CPU performance issue on AC power without battery

    Dear Lenovo & Community Members,
I've recently received my X230 (model no.: 2320-24B), and discovered an issue related to the CPU performance of X230 on AC power. To make the long story short, my X230 is not running at full performance on AC power with battery detached. Accordingly, the X230 was shipped with setting at "Maximum Performance" under "Intel Speed Step" in BIOS by default on AC power.
    Full Story:
My notebook is X230 (model 2320-24B) which comes with Ivy Bridge i7-3520M. I have a habit to detach the battery when it was fully charged, as I want to reduce the battery aging and my job does not always require me to work on the go. And by accident, I've discovered that X230 performs differently on AC power with and without battery. To be more precise, when my X230 runs on AC power with battery detached, it runs as slow as my Sandy Bridge i3-2100 desktop, which sounds very weird to me for a notebook costing me more than $1000.
Accordingly, I've benchmarked my X230 and here are the results, both with BIOS setting to "Maximum Performance" under AC Power:
AC power, without battery - WEI CPU Score: 4.9, WinRAR 4.2 benchmark: ~1,900kb/s, CPU @ 1.189Ghz on load
AC power, with battery - WEI CPU Score: 7.2, WinRAR 4.2 benchmark: ~4,000kb/s, CPU @ 3.6GHz on load
On battery power - WEI CPU: 7.2, WinRAR 4.2 benchmark: ~4,000kb/s, CPU @ 3.6GHz on load
Based on my tests, I’ve found that X230 is only performing at maximum performance when attached with its battery, and it is underperforming at its lowest clock speed when not being attached with the battery.
    Conclusion:
I would like to ask if other owners of X230 in this community have the same problem (and are able to repeat my findings). I'm quite disappointed to find that my X230 is running even slower than my i3-2100 desktop, and it simply doesn't make sense for a notebook with removable battery yet unable to run at full performance without battery. I demand Lenovo to address this issue.
    - Joseph (PhD Information Systems)
Edit: I'm already running the latest BIOS 1.12

Hi slkong, welcome to the forum,
allow me to assume that you have the 65W AC power supply.  If this is the case in order to reach full CPU performance you do need to have the battery attached, there are several threads on this within the boards concerning different systems and also this Knowledgebase article.
Hope this explains the situation for you.

Is there any way an iPhone app developer can implement low power class 3 Bluetooth?

Ah-HA!  I knew there had to be a way!
Not quite the same in 10.6, but close enough to find it:
    It's iTunes>apps, not iTunes>iPhone>apps.  I didn't realize there were different windows.
Not double-click, but control-click.  Close enough.
Easy-Peasy, now that you showed me how.

  • Partner App Performance

We've registered our major Java application as a partner to the Login Server. The partner applications server cluster receives thousands of logins every day. I've noticed that after the partner activates the login cookie, it still goes back to the SSO SDK to "unbake" the application cookie with each request.
Are folks out there storing the decrypted user information with the session to prevent decrypting the cookie with each call? Is it fine (and more secure) to just let the system decrypt each time, or is this a potential area for peformance improvement? Unbaking the app cookie takes about 134 millis for us.

  • Developing iPhone apps using SDK - what hardware to use?

I am planning on developing iPhone apps but am new to the Mac. I have 20 years of development experience but all on PC and web/java side.
I was planning on buying a MacBook 13" with 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 2 Gig of RAM. In your experience is this enough power to develop apps using the SDK.
What hardware configs do you any of you developers use to run the iPhone SDK?
    Thanks in advance

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The iPhone software development kit simply requires an intel processor-based Macintosh, running the current release of Mac OS X 10.5. Your questions can be answered by browsing the iPhone developer site, starting here.

  • App performs inconsistantly...how to check for memory leaks?

I (was!) almost done with an app to submit to the app store but when I tested the final build on my iPad it started performing strangely.
It had never done this before, but it's crashing almost CONSTANTLY. Every few seconds or so. I haven't changed much of anything since the last time I tested it and I can't really figure out what would cause it to crash so much.
From the menu you can choose a button to go to other frames in the main timeline. Half of those work, half of them make the app crash. This is new and I think I might have a memory leak somewhere because it's consistently inconsistent.
At first I thought I had a stack overflow somewhere; however, testing in mobile debug mode doesn't cause any errors or even warning output messages - nothing. It runs just fine.
So is it possible that the problem is stemming from hardware? I can't imagine this app would be using up too much memory - it is full of vectors, but there's nothing more complicated than touch and drag because it's just a puzzle.
How would I test something like this if debug mode isn't throwing any exceptions?

You may want to try MonsterDebugger (free, open source). It also serves as a profiler. You might be able to get a better understanding on what your app is doing (and why it might be breaking on the iPad).

  • HT201210 my phone won't turn on after trying to restore it with iTunes what do i do??!! also it just has the blue music app with an arrow and power cord on it. HELP!

My phone will NOT turn back on after trying to restore it with itunes. It just has the blue music app with an arrow & the usb side of the power cord on it.
    Help me please!!

    Hello Sean,
It sounds like you are constantly needing to restore your phone because it keeps going into recovery mode. Usually putting a device into recovery mode and restoring it can help isolate an issue to your iPhone hardware if an issue persists afterwards. I would try manually putting it into recovery mode and restoring it 1 more time:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
If that does not resolve it the symptoms indicate to me that it is a hardware issue causing this to happen and would seek service for it:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Restoring minimized swing app performance

    Holla,
i am writing a swing application and there is a performance problem
waking up the app: i mimimize the application (send it to the WIndows taskbar) then i
start other 'large' programs like word, my email client, or the IDE. when i maximize
the application now, it needs about 5-15 secounds to paint and 'come to live again'.
during this period of time the frame stays gray. this is poor response time..
I've seen other swing applications doing similar things. Netbeans for example.
Does anybody know the reason for this behaviour?
    -mike

This question is even more confusing then the one you asked before. Do you understand how PHP works because your question appears to have nothing to do with PHP whatsoever... unless you are confused which appears to be the case.
Could you describe the flow of your application a little please? That might be helpful. Like your user does X then Y happens etc. Rather than configure the PHP script which makes no real sense at all... because that sounds like a script editor which is fine in and of itself but is not related to a question about browsers Java or otherwise.
If you don't like this answer than I will say this. Yes it is possible in Java but not on alternate Tuesdays and as always, beware the classpath.
    Good luck.

  • App-V 5 Client with Power Shell 4.0

We are currently running App-V 4.6 SP2 on our Windows 7 SP1 x64 Clients. We just upgraded to Configuration Manager 2012 R2 which we also use to deploy app-v packages.
    Now i'm planning to upgrade our clients to "App-V 5.0 SP2". A prerequisite for App-V 5 is Power Shell 3.0 / .NET Framework 4.0
Currently there is already PowerShell 4.0 and .NET Framework 4.5.1 available for Windows 7. Are those components supported with App-V 5.0 SP2 on Windows 7?
    Thanks :)

Yes, this will work. These are the versions that come with Windows 8/8.1 etc.

  • 64-bit vs. 32-bit performance on SPARC hardware with the 1.6 JVM

I'm doing performance tuning for our Tomcat ckuster running on SPARC hardware. The 32-bit JVM gives us sufficient memory for now, but we are going to start using Terracotta for server striping so the extra memory the 64-bit JVM offers could be needed soon.
In addition to a bigger memory footprint, moving to the 64-bit JVM on SPARC has had a performance penalty. This FAQ shows a 10% - 20% performance hit when moving to the 64-bit JVM on SPARC on the 1.4 JVM:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/hotspot/HotSpotFAQ.html#64bit_performance
I'm not interested in taking a 10% - 20% performance hit if I can avoid it. There's been discussion of using a 32-bit / 64-bit hybrid approach to avoid this problem so maybe the 1.6 JVM doesn't have the performance hit that the 1.4 JVM had:
    http://blog.juma.me.uk/2008/10/14/32-bit-or-64-bit-jvm-how-about-a-hybrid/
Does anyone have current performance metrics for moving from the 32-bit JVM to the 64-bit JVM using the 1.6 JVM on SPARC?
    Thanks.
    Dean

Yes the 6380 FPU is shared between two cores.  I just ran a diagnostic I made up that generates an array of 1 million random numbers, takes the average of those, and then excutes that repeatedly in a parallel loop.  The 6380 showed a 20% to 30% improvement in speed between LV64 & LV32 bit depending on how many cores I told it to use.  So that seems to make more sense.  The other code that I was running that ran 4 times slower has a complicated clusters within a cluster structure including a large look up table array that is being passed around amoung several vi's.  If it is moving that large amount of data around in memory, instead of just the pointer, that might explain it.  But why then would the AMD run slower with 64 bit (by a factor of 4) when compared with the Core i7 which ran twice as fast, which kind of makes sense to me if it is moving that data around with twice the bandwidth?

First of all, Lion will not arrive until Summer 2011. The Mac App Store will be here "within 90 days". It has nothing to do with Lion.
As long as your application conforms to the Mac App Store requirements, it should be fine.
I downloaded Power Game Factory and built the demo, it looks like games produced form this tools would qualify on a technical level. Each game would still have to be approved by Apple on both technical and non-technical terms.
