App problem #1 - duplicate app icons

i had hoped these problems will go away by itself as o/s updates come but even with 1.0.6.2390, they seem to persist so i'm raising my hand so hopefully someone can help. this will be 1 of 2 issues.
problem: ever since day one, ie april 19th, i've noticed duplicate icons for apps i downloaded from app world. at the peak, there were about 3 apps which show two separate icons in the home screen. if i delete one (of a pair), the other in the pair also disappears. if i then reinstall it (a single time), two app icons will again show up.
so is there a way to get rid of the other in a pair? right now only the globe & mail app is duplicated. the duplicate remains even after upgrading from successive versions.

I just know my duplicates went away (I think) with the last update last week.

    English - When the iPod is connected to iTunes, look on Device/Apps and make sure *Sync Apps* is ticked and that those Apps also have a tick next to them.

    hey everyone and anyone that can help. so i used to have fifa and nba 2k12 and any other high memory game. i deleted them because i didnt want them. now when i try to re-install them, a pop up pops up and says that there is not enough memory. i clearly have alot of memory left and it wont let me re-install those games. HELP PLEASE!

    Hello all ,
    Perhaps somebody got answer for my question. When turn off and turn on again , or reboot my s650 , some apps icon are duplicate/redundant on my home screen. i've try to drag 1 of duplicate icon to upper bar but the option are only uninstalled the apps. my question is , is there any option that can deleted my duplicate/redundant icon instead of uninstalled the applications?   Thank you all. 

    Out of the box=when you got the phone and first powerd on.
    I understand that you updated to S123.With the out of the box firmware did you had this problem.Maybe the firmware didn't install corectly.
    The S119>S123 is for the chinese market,I sugest flashing he ROW(REST OF THE WORLD) firmware.

  • Since I updated my 4S iphone to the latest iOS7 version, I can no longer close any of my apps.  As a result, all my apps remain open on my phone.  Even powering down and restarting does not solve the problem.  Specifically, the icons don't wiggle anymore.

    Double tap the Home button, then swop upwards on the App Preview (not the App Icon). Tap the Home button again when done to return to normal screen.

  • Exclamation Point & Duplicate App Icon - iTunes App Screen

    I just did a sync of my iPhone 3G. In iTunes in the Apps screen on my PC some of the App icons have been duplicated and there is an exclamation point in front of them. So:
    1) What does this mean?
    2) How do I correct it with minimum muss & fuss?
    **Please note: due to previous bad encounters with 0S4 I *will not* be installing it, so please don't suggest that. Furthermore, since iTunes 9.2 will not function properly without OS4, I am using iTunes 9.1.1. (See my previous post regarding issues with iTunes 9.2 & my 3G iPhone.)

    Right clicking on the duplicate with the exclamation point brings up a pull down menu that says:
    - Get Info
    - Show in Windows Explorer
    - Delete
    Get info = The Application "name of application" could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" It then brings up the location if you continue on.
    Meanwhile it now seems that MOST of the duplicate App icons have this duplicate with the !, while a couple just seem to be duplicates.
    Again, I'm wondering as to the cause of this & how to correct it without having to do major stuff.

  • Open With showing duplicate apps in finder

    For those of you that use the Apple Mac App Store to download apps and are running into the issue of seeing your applications show up multiple times in the "Open With" command in the finder.  This invoked by holding control + clicking an item in the finder and choose the "open with" choice.
    I saw another large thread and didn't find an easy answer so I thought I'd post the solution that worked for me:
    1 - Launch Terminal.  This can be done by holding command key and hitting space bar and then typing terminal.
    2 - In Terminal paste the following text and hit return:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.fram ework/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
    3 - After Terminal comes back tot he ready prompt you can quit Terminal.
    4 - Relaunch finder by holding the Option key + clicking on the Finder Icon in your dock.
    You can now verify that you only see one version of each appliction by selecting an item in your finder window and holding the control key and clicking on it to see what items are listed in the "Open With" choice.
    Hit like if it solved your problem.

    It didn't work for me. You should mention which OS X version your command was intended for. I got a path name doesn't exist error when running the command.
    I found a similar command on a site not related to Apple that gave used a different path. I'm running OS X 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion) and that path did exist on my machine, I tried it and it work for me. Here's the steps I took:
    1- Launch Terminal.
    2- In Terminal paste the following text and hit return:
      /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user && killall Finder
    3- It will take some time (30 60 seconds) for the command to be completed. Once completed you can quit Terminal.
    There is no need to relaunch Finder, as the command has it built into it ("killall Finder", at the end)

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Try deleting the problematic app and then re-downloading the app from the app store.
    You can re-download content purchased from the app store using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
    You can re-download content purchased from the app store using the purchased option which is revealed by tapping the updates option at the bottom of the screen of the App store app on your iOS device.
    If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.
    I have asked for your email address to be edited out. Posting your address in an open thread is a sure way to be bombarded by unwanted email, remember it will be here long after you have resolved your problem, for automated detection software to find.
    If you want people to contact you, enable others to see your email address in your profile.

    Device : iPad Air 32gb wi-fi model (not cellular data)
    OS version : 7.1.1 (up to date)
    Location : UK
    Problem : App will not download to iPad when purchased from App Store - stuck with Cloud icon
    Last night I tried to download an app over wi-fi onto my iPad Air, but the app did not install.
    I have plenty of space (the app is 24.1mb, I have 3.4gb free space) and there are no restrictions whatsoever on my iPad - no blocks on App store purchases, no age-related restrictions, no country restrictions etc.
    Normally from the App Store page you would tap the price (in this case the app was free), enter your iTunes password, and the app would download.
    Also a new icon appears on the home screen and a circle shows the progress of the download.
    However this did not happen.
    Instead I have the Cloud icon (the one that shows when you have bought an app but it is not currently installed on your device) and a message that says "You've already purchased this, so it will be downloaded now at no additional cost".
    If I press OK I am then prompted to enter my iTunes password, the Cloud symbol briefly changes to a circle (and I mean for a split-second, like the blink of an eye) and then the Cloud symbol appears again.
    The app does not download - in fact it does not even *attempt* to download.
    I have tried this >20 times now and it always occurs excatly like this.
    After Googling this problem (which seems common) and reading over a dozen threads on this forum plus Apple's own official support pages, this is what I've tried:
    I can re-download other apps that I have previously purchased on this iPad, with no problems.
    I purchased another app on my iPhone 5 and was then able to download onto my iPad with no problems.
    I have reset my iPad >5 times - both by pressing/holding the home/power buttons, and also a full switch off and restart.
    I have logged out of my iTunes account on the iPad, and logged back in.
    The wi-fi is Virgin Media fibre optic broadband with a verified speed of 20 meg (confirmed by Speedtest) plus an 802.11-n Belkin router and my iPad will happily load web pages, stream videos on YouTube, download other apps etc.
    I have reset/rebooted my internet connection
    In an attempt to eliminate by broadband connection from the possible causes, I have switched off my router, linked my iPad to the hotspot feature on my iPhone and tried to download the app over cellular data, but still cannot download the app.
    I have tried on 2 other wi-fi networks but still cannot download this one app.
    My iTunes account has a cerdit balance from an iTunes card, but the app was free anyway
    Nothing I try will download the app in question.
    The app is iPad only, so I cannot install on my iPhone to try and kick-start the process.
    I guess I could install the app on my computer and then sync the iPad, but that's *working around* the problem - it's not *fixing* the problem.
    (Since getting the iPad I use almost never use my computer. And anyway what if I did not have a computer? Didn't iOS go "PC-free" with version 5?)
    I would like to call Apple but my 90-day telephone support has expired (the iPad is around 6 months old) and I don't want to buy Apple Care for this one problem.
    I can't make it to an Apple Store to speak to a Genius.
    Bearing in mind the list of things I've already tried, what do I do next?

    No need to apologize, I actually found the phrase "If your iPad ever craps the bed" amusing under the circumstances
    I checked the list of installed apps like you suggested (Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Show all apps) but this problem app is not in the list. I have also swiped down on the home screen to search for it, but again it does not show.
    While it has not let me download the app (and I just tried it again) it has helped me to eliminate a few things from the list of what to try, and I can definitely conclude that it has not downloaded.
    I guess I need to fire up my PC and download it / sync my iPad.

    Do you have a lot of apps? Did you use a lot of apps recently? If so, many of them may still be resident in memory even if you aren't currently using them. Double-tap the home key and you should see the app tray with a list of most recently used programs. Press and hold the icons in the tray and remove the ones you don't use often to remove them from memory. Powering off and then back on might also help.
    My wife's iPod does that sometimes, and it's usually because we run out of memory due to apps remaining in memory even when not used. The suggestion above is how we normally fix the problems.

  • App Problem

    I do not have Wifi at my home. I was at a place with free wifi, and I was going to be there for a while so I decided to update my apps. Well, it took my iPod 2 days to update about 15 apps; probably because the wifi connection was very slow. But I had to leave when the iPod was less than half-way done, and now half of my apps I cannot use because they are grey and say "waiting..." as if they are waiting to be updated. I cannot finish updating because, like I said, I do not have wifi. Help?

    ok so i am having a similar problem. had an amazon.com app update waiting on my ipod and applied the update. a gray icon appeared with waiting underneath and the downloading indicator was turning up top. after a minute or two it stopped but the icon did not change. in the app page in the apps store it said installed so nothing to be done there. under updates it said all apps up to date. tried touching and holding the gray icon thinking i would remove it when the x appeared but it did not appear for that icon. there was no internet issue. i had email access, could use other apps and had no connectivity issues. hours later i purchased talking carl and same thing - looked like it was downloading for a minute or so but instead i now had 2 useless gray icons. once again - no connectivity issues. no problem connecting to the apps store or itunes.
    both ipod and itunes are fully up to date with latest versions.
    when i connected the ipod to my laptop and itunes, sync did not correct it. i deselected them, clicked apply and removed them.
    never had this issue before and have had no other issues. have not tried to buy anything since. frustrating though i must say.

    When im logging in with my gamecenter live account the app doesn't verify my account. There is just a loading screen which says 'verifying your account' and nothing doesn't happen. Any ideas how to solve this problem?

    Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
    Then reset: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go.
    If this doesn't work, I'd contact the app developer with your problem.

    I'm not sure why this is happening, but I think I'm seeing the same thing. Many times when I get an email on the iPad or iPhone with a picture attached, I don't see the picture but instead just a placeholder icon.
    I have found a work around though to at least see the picture. If I forward it and include the attachment, I see the picture in the outgoing email. I can even save the image from the sending email if I really don't want to send it. If i do send it to myself, chances are I will see the picture in the email when I receive it even though it's just a resend of the original.
    weird.
